If this is the new thread, I think a fair take of Chapter 5 is its a really fun chapter filled with cool gimmicks but in the grand scheme of answers or clues for the story there was little. Its honestly made me less excited for chapter 6 despite it being great cause there isn't anything to go off of anymore and the blatant overuse of the yuri is starting to get tiring.

Great video game storytelling. In Undertale, I mean. Deltarune makes a lot of improvements on the gameplay and graphics front, but it's not as rich, coherent, or focused thematically when it comes to the storytelling. It's probably in part because Deltarue is not fully out yet. It also seems to retread similar story bits. You could argue the music is also less iconic. Nonetheless, there's a lot of the same Toby Fox(TM) moment-to-moment writing and music in Deltarune, which is why I like it a lot overall, but I wouldn't describe it as one of the best games I've ever played in the same way I would Undertale. However, I still reserve judgement, because so much of what makes the writing in Undertale great has to do with how the different endings bring the whole thing together, so Deltarune is at an obvious disadvantage in that aspect.

I only played Undertale and the first two chapters of Deltarune. Although they're not bad games by any means, I think they're carried hard by the soundtracks. The battles are cool I guess but nothing special. I felt no need to replay the game after beating Sans and as for Deltarune i got bored during chapter 2 and finishing it was a chore more than anything. If you're into story driven games with lots of dialogue and worldbuilding you'll probably like these games but if you're like me and you don't care about those things feel free to skip

NTA but the issue is that the gameplay is very reaction and twitch movement based while lacking much in the way of mandatory tech, in a way where you just gotta react to what's coming at you with the "RPG" elements being very simplistic menu manipulation of said battles otherwise.
So its good gameplay but its good in the same way a the baseline levels of a Super Mario game has good gameplay where you can talk about individual segments but as a whole there isn't much to describe.
Like there is this whole robust RPG element and gear system that the game itself only really pushes the player to engage with for optimization like once so far and I think will never get its proper time in the sun because Toby wants the game to be beaten by almost anyone.

Deltarune is not a massively clever game or anything, you're right that most people exaggerate Toby's cleverness. But this piece of dialogue is clearly meant to show that Seam has more awareness of the game's mechanics than the usual NPC.

Its always been like that for most chapters ever since it was introduced. Ch2 and also Spamton is at its highest with Weird Route, Ch3 gets a lot better with the optional WR content, Ch4s highlight was definitely the doerape(although the prophecy cliffhanger came close) and Ch5 like most people say isnt that special.
The main route doesnt have many real rollercoasters or even interesting fights which is often what the WR excels at. You just get thrown a gag or odd statement sometime then the game sidetracks. Meanwhile the WR likes to resolve itself.
