Will it ever be topped?
>>741942485blacklist already didFundementally the stealth in CT is shit like most stealth games due to it being a simulator of hiding in fucking alcoves
>>741943197CT is the best stealth game because it excels in making you feel like an actual spy which is probably what most people are gonna come to a stealth game for.also i just will never enjoy the controls/ how blacklist feels to play a lot of times there is only one solution to areas if you want to go fully ghost.t. MGS fan
>>741943356>feel like an actual spy >>741943356>t. MGS fankek
>>741943751yep that's what i said. quoting me and laughing isn't an argument by the way. preferring blacklist to chaos theory is the biggest joke in this thread still.
>>741945029>thinks a video game is realistically how a spy acts>thinks a movie slop game is actually how a spy works
>>741942485wasn't there a sc1 remake in the works?guess it got dropped after ubi tanked hard
>>741943197>due to it being a simulator of hiding in fucking alcovesLe stealth game involves... le hiding?!
>>741942485Already been topped
>>741945246well yeah this is how it's really done. breaking and entering, stealing, murder. it's not like James Bond where you seduce the bad guy's girlfriend to learn his biggest weakness.
>>741943197>blacklist already didlmao
>>741943197Isn't Blacklist the game where you can just play the entire game through shooting everything that moves?
>>741945597I remember the actual missions being on par with CT at points, but then the actual double agent sections didn't really quite hit the same way.
>>741945724Yeah he's either baiting or really an action fan. He clearly doesn't like stealth.I remember actually running through a lot of it as you move so comfortably you can just slide past everything.
>>741945724>you can just play the entire game through shooting everything that movesYou can do that in every SC game where the levels allow 5th freedom.
>>741942485The Division is all action. It's more enjoyable SC or MGS.That hasn't been topped yet. Certainly not by The Division 2.Part of why SC was good is not much wrong. Once you're doing the wrong thing like The Division 2 it's worthless.Kane & Lynch was also better.
>>741942485If only Amon Tobin will be compositor again.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YB9Rbn4SkWo0:46 , absolute eargasm.
>>741945498It's in development he'll because Ubisoft. The Director re-joined the project in December after resigning 4 years ago
>>741945836if you take carefully placed headshots which is still using stealth. otherwise you will run out of ammo after your third kill. Blacklist has an entire named playstyle based on running and gunning, and weapons/suits that were designed for it.
>>741945724Same in chaos theory, yes
fun fact about blacklistits' the only game where the game actually rewards you more for not interacting with enemies than other gamesIt's the only 'true' ghost stealth game in the franchiseI'll admit the KINO AS FUCK electromagnetic vision in CT makes it the MOST KINO STEALTH GAME EVER tho
>>741945246>has to misquote me to have any semblance of a pointi said the game makes you feel like a spy you fucking mongoloid. i don't give a damn what actual spies do.>>thinks a movie slop game is actually how a spy worksi also never claimed that, hence why i prefer CT as a stealth game.try not making so much shit up if you intend on replying to me again faggot.
>>741946705>feel like an actual spyAh, my apologies. You didn't say that here:>>741943356My bad everyone! 4chan broke and is editing the text in posts after the user posts again!
>>741946861>unironically gloating when he's blatantly the retard in the discussionyou do know that someone's perception of what it means to be a spy can be entirely contrary to what it's actually like in real life? considering most people aren't spies this is gonna be the case for most people that play chaos theory as indicated in my post. at this point you're either ragebaiting or i'm genuinely speaking to someone lacking a prefrontal lobe.
>>741947126>you do know that someone's perception of what it means to be a spy can be entirely contrary to what it's actually like in real life? considering most people aren't spies this is gonna be the case for most people that play chaos theory as indicated in my post. at this point you're either ragebaiting or i'm genuinely speaking to someone lacking a prefrontal lobe.Buddy, calm down! Listen, I get what you said 'feel like an actual spy', you meant 'feels like my fictional version of what a spy is'I get it, okay? You said one thing and 4chan changed it!
>>741947212oh so you're just schizophrenic. that's fine then, i apologize for implying you were only an idiot.
>>741946668Don't be so disingenuous. All the prior games reward you for ghosting. Not just in mission rating or points, but in gameplay You don't risk bodies being found and you are more likely to hear useful dialogue if enemies are undisturbed. Blacklist is the only game that rewards you for killing enemies in open combat with unsuppressed weapons, by comparison.
Remember when Blood Money and Chaos Theory were considered the best of their franchise. They had both perfected the formula. Hitman ended up returning to that with WOA and managed to surpass BM. I always wished the same for Splinter Cell. We can only hope the remake will be our WOA.
>>741947212Meds.
>>741947539Blacklist is the only game that gives you more points for ghosting than not ghosting compared to other games in the seriesYou can 'but muh combat' all you want. But let's do 'muh combat'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmPZzf8j2uk&t=802sSo please, politely, calmly and most importantly right now, stop fucking trolling. Thanks! xd
>>741945597>>741945785The the 6th gen version is a decent CT lite game though the level design isn't as strongThe 7th gen version is a broken mess, especially on PC
>>741947838nobody cares you shit eater. blacklist sucks because it's not as fun as chaos theory. any bullshit you conjure up to cope with on top of that is irrelevant when that fact remains.
>proves the trolls wrong>trolls continue to trollle sighI feel a bit like doing le quirky one liner like my hero Sam Fisher
any splinter cell revival has 2 problems-ray tracing looks like shit, and creates very flat-looking lighting, and SC needs those deep, defined, black shadows-sam will have to have a new voice actor and ironside MADE that character
>>741946204NTA. Yeah, and it's still much harder than actual stealth, which is precisely the point. If anything, I'm dissapointed how little difference all the supposed assault gear makes. Ghost is often super linear as well. The game is obviously designed for the Panther playstyle first and foremost.
>>741945860The Division was the most repetitive game I've played in a long time
>>741947539The guards in older games carried various memos or keys which could be important for progress, only CT gave you more optionsAnd as long as you hid the bodies in the dark they could not get spotted
>>741948115They already had a new voice actor in Blacklist
>>741948118i'm talking about the old trilogy, technically you can kill all of the enemies with your rifle but only if you get headshots exclusively. and you're not gonna do that in open combat because of the jerky and unpredictable way they move around.
>>741948205yes. and it sucked. sam doesnt feel like sam.
>>741947838You're being educated, not trolled. Chaos Theory has things like guards fixing opening paths for you if you leave them alone. They fix elevators, open keypad locked doors, reveal useful hints about the level you're in via dialogue, or even complete objectives for you by way of eavesdropping on their conversations. Blacklist just gives you points. It's all very hollow, too. Once you do a loud playthrough and see how the game reacts to it, you feel like ghosting is worthless. Because it's just points, not the other stuff prior games gave you for being patient.
>>741948118The dirty secret about stealth games is: if you don't want to give the player superpowers, the AI has to be predictable to make the player feel 'good'It's why so many stealth games are pure shit. The only one I can really think off that was done well was arguably Dishonored 2 without powersMost stealth games are just 'wait for the AI To go by'Some levels in Blacklist only have 1-2 ways to ghost, mostly Grimm's levels, the sea fort in the UK for example, is literally just 'get past the first two guards, tag the first phone, get around to the second phone, tag that, go up the wall to the third phone, tag that, go to the starting point to finish>>741948414And blacklist is the only one with pure ghosting in mindThis isn't a 'CT sucks because BL is better' but rather 'they do different things'
I played nearly every Splinter Cell game a few years ago except for Blacklist, even the handheld ones. The 2 GBA games were surprisingly decent platformers but the PSP game was really forgettable, the controls were pretty bad because of PSP's limited controls, but Metal Gear and Syphon Filter games showed you can make good stealth action games on thge system.
>>741948320I know you are and I'm telling you it's not exactly easier in Blacklist. I did do it occasionally in both games though, on normal difficulty and it is doable in both.
>>741948558>blacklist is the only one with pure ghosting in mindMore like the back of the mind.
>>741948562Whoever thought it was a good idea to give the PSP only one analogue stick was a retard. Also it's too low down on the thing. Makes holding it uncomfortable.
>>741942485I liked blacklist more. Pure ghost was really fun and it encouraged some creative solutions to levels. But CT is definitely up there.
>>741948749Blacklist is a joke if you go full panther and just knockout everyone with your sleep nades and crowsbow. Don't forget about how there's "agency pickups" at every checkpoint that refill your gear multiple times per mission. Older games at lead had the sense to make equipment pick ups be logically placed in the levels.
>>741948558Duh, stealth games are just real time puzzlers where you're supposed to figure out a path through and then execute it with good timing. The more tools they give you to carve out this path, the better, but, ultimately, that's what it boils down to. Of course the AI has to be predictable for this to work just like boss AI in a Soulsgame has to be predictable in regards to when it leaves openings and when it punishes. Predictable AI is hardly a genre-specific thing. That said, I always preffered the ninja style gameplay they started calling Panther later on because it felt quite satisfying to play the predator and take them out one by one without anyone spotting you, especially in Blacklist when they added those sleek animations.
there's a reason CT is still brought up and has threads while Blacklist has seemingly faded into obscurity, even on release.
>>741949528souls slop is rng slop due to how ai works on itYou might be thinking more like bosses in platformer games, etcArkham Knight has amazing stealth AI
>>741948562The j2me Splinter Cells are where it's at for on the go.>>741949430Panther isn't open combat. I'm talking specifically about the difficulty of open combat.
>>741949590The reason is that Blacklist is soulless. The gameplay is good, but the story is a weird jack Bauer / Mass Effect ripoff attempt that falls completely flat. One offhand comment made by Sam from CT has more value in it that the whole Blacklist narrative, no matter the fidelity of the cutscenes. It's a case study of what was lost as AAA studios got bigger in the 7th gen.>>741949678I guess? People often talk about learning the enemy's moveset in those games, but for me it was mostly reactionary. I figured I was just not not paying enough attention, but what do I know. I honestly wish someone just made the first 2/3 of DS1 without the bosses. Boss fights are basically the reason I don't play these games anymore, despite really enjoying exploration and tight encounter design. I will get to Arkham Knight eventually, I hope.
>>741949528Facilitating the aggressive stealth style is where the franchise lost its way, starting with Conviction. The fact that it was dangerous to be ballsy in the earlier games is what made it fun to do. Your non-regenerating health, jank weapon aim and the AI that was always a moment away from going nuclear and 2-shotting Sam. It made killing just 3 guards in quick succession thrilling.
>>741950793>The gameplay is good,Booooo. The animations looked smooth but that was it. BL Sam would always take one more step than you wanted him too. Tip toeing around guards was gone. You just had to kind of lumber around them.
>>741942485World of Assassination is a much better stealth game and you don't need to crouch walk everywhere like a retard. It's so dumb that so many "top tier" stealth games of yesteryear are just crouch walking sims, there's no fun in that, and it's not immersive either. People don't crouch walk IRL, the burglar that broke into your home to steal your PS5 didn't crouch walk his way in, he just acted casual and broke the glass pane on your back door when no one was looking.
Hitman is a joke stealth game because 47 is extremely conspicuous. He acts awkwardly and gets way with trespassing in broad daylight because the detection meter on guards resets every time he ducks behind a deck. Splinter Cell tries harder to be immersive by placing an emphasis on not being seen at all.
>>741951723Did you even play the games? The detection meter works differently in pretty much every Hitman game
>>741951325the crouching is also about making yourself less visible, when people look around they do it at eye height. combined with a vanta-black sneaking suit you're maximizing your minimalism.
>>741951325>muh walkingalot of the "camaflouge" faggotory in hitman is absurdly comical
>>741951819>Command, I just heard a noise. I'm moving to investigate and cutting my mic. Don't worry if I go silent for the next 5 hours.
>>741951123They weren't really SC, but as something akin to John Wick simulators i liked them very much. The worst thing they did was making one enemy detecting you act as a beacon for all of them without that 0,5 s break before he can actually call out. So many tense moments came from trying to headshot the guy befor he could call out.>>741951261The super precise movement speed they ended up removing was pointless most of the time, but movement animations in the earlier games were kino; cool and useful for precise positioning.>>741951325Hitman was always focused more on the social stealth, with disguises and all. Completely different fantasy to the commandoes of MGS and SC so not really comparable.
>>741945597Meh. In the new-gen version those terrorist base missions are mostly really annoying and daytime missions just don’t work well in practice. I give it that it looks wonderful for a Xbox 360 game and the presentation is great.Old-gen version has much better gameplay, but unfortunately you can see that it was made with super tight timetable and shoestring budget. Environments feel drab, empty and ugly when compared to Chaos Theory and writing lacks the wit of CT.
