>why is it undertale nostalgia-bait?? why is it randomly japan-themed??the whole theme of the chapter is "escapism bad". asgore is coping with "the event" that ruined his life by throwing himself into his failing flower shop. this is mirrored in the dark world with the japanese shit (fanbase is obviously weeb-central), undertale references, and even deltarune references with the first part of the dark world. the subtext is "there is more to life than jerking off to hentai and watching gaster lore videos".the problem with chapter 5 isn't any of that shit, the problem is this really should've happened before chapter 4. fundamentally this chapter doesn't really advance the main plot much. yeah asgore gets captured, so what? undyne already got captured and the cast was already motivated to find her but now a more important character is also captured so they're more motivated? that's not really a development on its own. the most we really get is confirmation that the dark world is related to whatever event caused asgore to get fired and that strengthens the idea that december is the knight, but for an episodic game that gets updates at most once per year, that's not very satisfying. chapter 4 already felt like it was ramping up things to progress faster towards the ending, so slamming on the breaks for chapter 5 to be little progression is pretty retarded. and obviously the susiexnoelle shit is total ass, but i'll guess we'll see if that's intentionally bad because it's a fake out or if toby is so beholden to his homo fanbase that a badly written romance is actually supposed to be intentional fan service

Seriously, a shitload, specifically regarding how compatible the ships are.Something I find very, very interesting is the contrast between Suselle and Kriselle's compatibility in two seperate instances.First, the strength tester. For Suselle, their hit only goes up halfway. Because Susie interrupts Noelle's countdown, and she then FORCES it to go max when she hits it by herself. But for Kriselle? No matter what you do, they will ALWAYS hit it together perfectly; late, early, or perfect timing, it doesn't matter. Their compatibility is PERFECT.Secondly, and much more interesting, in my opinion, is the notorious ferris wheel. On top of being harder to activate the scene of course, it has very strong symbolism as well. For Suselle, the ride only goes up halfway, and they feel disappointed. Kris, if they close their eyes, actually recalls a subtle Kriselle scene, too. Yet for Kriselle, I believe the ride goes up all the way. Not only do we get an incredibly heartfelt scene regarding their past and finding out that Kris indeed did care for her, but Susie was throwing dirt at the ride and FAILED to hit them, which makes me believe it was too high up to hit.TRUST THE DOG. Toby keeps putting these Kriselle hints in for those determined enough to work for them. And Suselle being "confirmed" this early into the story is a death sentence for the ship.
