I enjoyed it. Found most of the secrets on my own too, except I spoiled the general location of the egg for myself. I wish I hadn't, because I almost stumbled on it myself anyway. Wasn't too hidden this chapter. I was already trying to cut all the wheat first time through the area, and noticed the one that stays. I tried hitting it a couple more times then moved on instead of keeping at it. The spoiler told me it was by the shop, so I immediately knew to go back and try that more. So I didn't totally spoil myself at least.

Apparently my main save is missing some eggs. I have no idea which chapters I didn't grab them in, and don't really feel like replaying the entire game to get them. Hopefully one egg is enough for whatever. Lancer said "You won't get through your teen years without at least one Egg," so maybe.

I already did everything there was to do in the chapter. I did enjoy it, but I still have this running criticism of this game being thematically unfocused. There are some themes. For example, there's this whole "freedom" theme. Things being set as they are on a track and the different characters being unable to stop it despite trying vigorously. But it isn't at all clear what the message regarding it is supposed to be. There's also this separation between the protagonist and the player, but it's also not clear what the point of it is neither. Then there's this whole weird route thing, and it's also not clear at all why the player would be engaging with it on the basis of information that has been revealed so far. For the time being, a lot of what happens in Deltarune just seems to be faffing about doing things that aren't connected to what seem to be the main themes. It's not a criticism of chapter 5 specifically, it's a criticism of all the chapters released so far.

I hope for something to bring it all together. So that I can see a consistent throughline of the game, where I can see everything that happens from the diagetic elements to the meta elements as serving something overarching. You know, how it was in Undertale. But it's possible that it's not realistic to expect that for chapter 6. It might be more realistic to hope for that to happen in the finale in chapter 7. Still, I hope that I catch a glimpse of it in chapter 6. If not, then that's okay, because there's still chapter 7, but I would be happy, if I do.

That feels like something that will make more sense the more chapters come out. Like there's the whole thing about following the set path of the prophecy or whatever, and that leading to bad things. Just hearing about that is enough to consider finding another path where you break free from fate. "The Forbidden Path" is described in the sword/ice key stuff in chapter 3, so that's your lead for seeking out the chapter 2 weird route.

Maybe when we get 6/7 (lololol) we'll see that the set path where the prophecy comes true is so terrible that the player will be willing to try anything to change paths.

Yeah I think the story progressed well enough. A lot doesn't feel new because it's just revealing the things were hinted at or theorized about for a long time now. But you have to spell those things out in-game at some point in the story.

I think the intention too, is that it's like the last "normal chapter" where you go to a Dark World, meet goofy friendly characters, go to a castle, seal the fountain, etc. Along with it being the final chapter with an egg and shadow crystal. So they also had the nostalgic part with the starting area resembling the first Dark World to tie into that. Whatever happens in chapters 6 and 7, it's going to be more dark and serious. More like the titan fight at the end of chapter 4, I imagine.

Unpopular opinion I guess, but chapter 3 was my favorite. Surprised to see so many people rank it low. Bosses and exploration were top notch, half the chapter felt like you were discovering 'forbidden' secret stuff. Music rocked. Also Roaring Knight was a super challenging and fun boss, beating it made me feel accomplished.

Chapters 3 and 4 were widely praised for subverting the expectations of the patterns created by 1 and 2, yet 5 feels like the most templat patternfag prediction from the post-chapter 2 hiatus.
Not to mention that every chapter since 2 had at least a little bit of darkness, or a seedy weirdness underneath: Spamton, Sword Route, the darker parts of the Church.
Chapter 5 feels too fillery, and even if it was (bad) on purpose because nostalgia, it fails to be nostalgic because it does NOT capture the weird feeling of Deltarune AT ALL

Not gonna lie, I'm not viking with Chapter 5. The Festival felt bland, the Dark world so far feels like it's going through the motions, Ralsei continues to elude to knowing more without talking to us. Just finished the Aqua boss fight and feel like I need a nap.

I can understand that criticism. It seemed intentional to be aggressively following the template, but even when it's intentional some people might not like that. It gives it that fillery feeling you mention.

The relative lack of darkness/weirdness fits the theme and probably will be a nice contrast with the last two chapters, but I did miss it too a bit. It's such a defining part of the game, so I was looking forward to seeing what creepy secret was hidden going off-path in this chapter. Nothing really, even the secret boss is more just a silly fight, even if the thing about sharing a body ties into Kris and (You).

Overall I liked it a ton, but I get why some people weren't feeling it.

I wish I was, with chapters 3 and 4 I was devouring those for a full weekend non stop. This chapter feels like a slog, the festival was meh, and immediately seeing Field of Hopes and Dreams again instead of a new area took ALL the wind out of my sails that I haven't booted it up since Flowery showed us the "Exit"

I haven't finished it yet but I'm pretty sure it's going to be my least favorite chapter. The festival was underwhelming at best and the suselle beach scene is the worst thing in the game so far. The dark world was also pretty boring at first but it picks up once you get the feather. The flowers are cool with the exception of Yellow and Blue. Stuck on MewMew right now who is my least favorite schizo boss simply due to unoriginality. The biggest problem with the chapter right now is Susie being written like shit which is really disappointing after how good she was in chapter 4. Possibly over but I'm still going to play the next chapters.

I was just joking when I said Big G had Onion go on vacation for threatening to spoil the plot early. I didn't actually expect the Goner Gang to execute him mexican-cartel style and sell his organs as street food. This bird really fucking scares me.

Why are people saying they liked the Dark World? It sucked compared to all of the chapters. The new Darkners were lame, the side-scrolling gimmick gets repetitive easily hell even the fights weren't that good.

I DID IT! I finally 100%'d Chapter 5, both the normal route and weird route WITHOUT using a guide or interacting with the internet once! I can finally use the internet again! Yipee! Finding those two foxes took me way longer than it should.

So, how has it been going guys? What's the consensus?

Holy fuck, the Weird Route was such a wild ride for me. I saw the fake "ending," and I was so disappointed in Toby. I couldn't believe the route ended with Kris and Noelle drowning while the rest of the chapter just carried on as if nothing had happened.
In fact, I was so disappointed that I went into complete denial. I replayed the Weird Route, this time choosing "Stop" right before I lost the option to do so again. It didn't work. I tried again, but this time I picked "Stop" five times, then four, then three, then two, then once. Nothing worked.
At that point, I was ready to declare Toby a complete hack. "How could he do this to us? We paid money for this" I thought. But of course that couldn't have been how the story ended. There had to be more. I was determined to find another ending, anything.
So I did the only thing I had left to do: I selected "PROCEED" faster than I ever had before. I didn't look back. My fingers were moving at the speed of light as I desperately tried to reach the other side of the lake. For a moment, I genuinely felt the pressure Kris and Noelle must have been under. The frantic pace of mashing "PROCEED" made the whole sequence incredibly tense.
And then I saw it: "INSERT CHAPTER 7 SIDE B." Honestly, even if it's a little anticlimactic, I was just relieved that the Weird Route continued. It felt like the fruits of my cold-hearted determination hadn't gone to waste. Bravo, Toby. You really had me there for a second.

you need to complete 5 and 6 on 'side b' with no new content/slightly different dialogue, like chapter 3 so you have a B Side chapter 7 SAVE

OR - you start a new weird route in 6/7 and that SIDE B has to link up with Noelle's side B

if you fail the mashing, kris and noelle drown for real, then the game snaps back the normal route and you get flashes of scenes from the normal route interspersed with noelle monologuing about how she was wrong and nothing changed. it's not all perfect though, because susie notes that kris has wet hair.
it remains to be seen if this is another branching path or not, but the potential is there since noelle still has her meta knowledge.

Just a thought, but the Knight is taking people to a shelter. Every consider the knight is kidnapping people to protect them? Kris either killed Dess or Asriel or both, and the knight is targeting people closest to Kris because they're most likely to be killed next. Noelle knows what happened or is also responsible and that's why she's so messed up psychologically.
