This is ultimately the thing I hate about humanity. We join together to create these headless entities with power, and the responsibility and consequences falls on nobody. Unless you count the CEOs that are nothing more than job positions made to take the flak when a company does bad so they can just fire and continue on with a clean slate. Do any of the people working at these companies like getting fucked like this? No, but the corporate god they have created needs that. If you have a thousand people holding up a log, no one person is important. I don't hate capitalism, but I think private companies run and owned by a single responsible leader is how it should be. You fuck up, it's on your ass.

Sony owes me like four dollars to this day.
Oh, one more thing I should add, to anyone curious, when you buy movies on the PlayStation store it doesn’t even download them to your console, it’s just a pass to stream it. If your Internet is slow it will buffer and drop resolution and crap, it’s like the worst product ever, they can steal it from you and it provides no benefit over just watching the thing on youtube

>>741981361Actually - in the EU you'd have Directive 2019/770 apply to sales of digital content and services.Which states in its article 10 that any limitation or removal of access to purchased content or services flowing from third-party rights issues, in particular intellectual property rights (such as content licensing deals), give consumers access to the same remedies as they have for a product not conforming to contract:Either the product is brought back into conforming to contract (i.e. Sony reinstates the licensing deal and customers get their movie access back) or customers have a right to terminate their contract and are then owed a full refund. This is a legal bullet Sony cannot dodge out of.If they offered this movie-purchasing service in the EU, they are cooked and they can look forward to a BIG wave of refunds as soon as people realize.(And the blood is in the water. E.g. the Dutch are already suing Sony over anti-competitive practices with PlayStation and PSN.)

>>741984027If you weren't, then it's not your account and you have no case
>>741986829> For the past few years, we have worked on expanding Steam beyond games and software by building a video platform that supports paid and free video content. In reviewing what Steam users actually watch, it became clear we should focus our effort on offering content that is either directly related to gaming or, is accessory content for games or software sold on Steam.>> As part of this refocus, we have retired the Video section of the Steam Store menu with an expectation that video content is discovered via the associated game or software store page, or through search, user tags, recommendations, etc.>> Over the coming weeks a number of non-gaming videos will be retired and will no longer be available for purchase. Previously purchased content will remain available to owners. >> -- https://store.steampowered.com/oldnews/48501Steam kept that content available to owners who had already purchased it.
>>741989447No, you see. The 'play' is not referring to the consumer. It's referring to Sony. They do the playing. The consumer is getting played. And there's no limit to how deep Sony will sink.Play has no limits.
>>742008390It's not legal in the EU if it's in the fine print. Essential precontractual information governing the nature of the contract is required to be presented in clear and comprehensible manner in advance of sale, and if only buried in legal fine print or in general terms and conditions, is unenforceable.
>>742021676Because Steam didn't have any video content worth a damn. They weren't dealing with major motion picture studios who flat out refuse perpetuity licenses and will bend you over a barrel every few years on license renegotiation knowing how bad a blow it is for the company they are negotiating with for a bunch of their content to suddenly not be available anymore.
>>742019024You see it fall out of the gun and bounce off of her before she shoots.
>>741980776So they're going to reimburse everyone that bought those movies, right?... Right?
>>742022689You should be asking Studio Canal that question, not Sony. It's their products that were sold and they are not allowing for anymore.. They're the ones with the customers' money.
DIGITAL ONLY CUC_KS BTFOPHYSICAL GODS WON
>>742022896They're both at fault. If sony had any sense they wouldn't have agreed to such a contract and also made it very clear to customers what said contract entailed.
>>741980776Consoyim deserve less
>>742021353pretty sure nothing is going to happen. sony won.
>>742023589The only person at fault is the idiot that bought a vendor locked in digital only product. Whenever you do that, be it from Sony or Valve or Amazon or whatever, you are merely acquiring the product temporarily and just hoping when you inevitably lose it you won't care.
?
>>742024424people can be retards but if it says sell. that's how the law will treat it in most of cases. these companies sure don't want to say other wise like non permanent purchase, rental. or "until our licences expires" because that would heavily impact their sales. at the end of the day this is false marketing. likely an scam. The more they push. and force people out of physical media the bigger this issue will be and some sore of stop killing movies will happen.
>>742021895As true as that may be its largely irrelevant sadly. Sony will just bury you in lawyer paperwork and demands for this and that and even if you finally prove yourself correct in court it will take a decade and cost you millions. That's why nobody ever actually goes to court over this kinda shit. It's the exact same with every fucking guy who has to go to a supreme court for a constitutional issue. Even if you win you still lost, the process is the punishment.
>>741980776But Sony is going to refund buyers, right?Right?
>>742024424>or whatever
>>742018776what and whomst?Dont answer, I dont actually care
>>742016039NTA, I agree with you.
>>742011454>AtheistThe best goy.
>>742024895>these companies sure don't want to say other wise like non permanent purchase, rental. or "until our licences expires" because that would heavily impact their salesIt's in the terms of service you agreed to.Even for Steam they say in their terms of services there's no guarantee of access and, basically, if Valve doesn't have the ability to provide it anymore you and everyone else loses it and there is no refunds for that.
>>742025505The one productive thing that came out of SKG's EU Citizen's Initiative sofar is that the EU Commission acknowledged the gap between being within your rights and those rights actually being acknowledged by the other party, and want to see this improved. And honestly - it's probably the lynchpin in the whole thing. The necessary legislation is, strictly speaking, all already in place. It just needs better ways for consumers to be able to act on it and enforce their rights being respected. Then once publishers can no longer fuck over consumers as effectively as they have been doing, the entire situation will self-rectify over time.
>>741980776And that's why I buy PHYSICAL.Also I won't be buying GTA6 until we get a physical disc.
>>742026916Terms of service are nice, but law supercedes them.> Article 6> 1. Member States shall lay down that unfair terms used in a contract concluded with a consumer by a seller or supplier shall, as provided for under their national law, not be binding on the consumer and that the contract shall continue to bind the parties upon those terms if it is capable of continuing in existence without the unfair terms.> Article 3>3. The Annex shall contain an indicative and non-exhaustive list of the terms which may be regarded as unfair.> Annex> 1. >>742027253 (cont.)And also:> > Annex> 1. >>741980776my Laserdisc collection does not suffer from the same problem.
>>742027345There are actually rumors of Sega reentering the hardware market.
>>742027253Just declaring something unfair doesn't make it so. If anything, the courts are going to agree that expecting a service to be provided in perpetuity is the thing that is unfair, not you not receiving that.
>>741980776Americans love this
>>742027447Yea with a hand full of game geurs?
>>742027040>The necessary legislation is, strictly speaking, all already in placeThis is the part the doom spamming jeets don't want you to realize. That's why they hyperfocus the demoralization spam on the "no additional legislation" part, to make it seem like it's the UK bullshit all over again.
>>742027451If it's advertised as a purchase and not a rental, you can bet your poo stained ass any court will deem it unfair to take it away with zero compensation.

>>741981067wait until you hear about Bluray updates

>>742028979No, they won't.Why in the fuck do you think companies are so comfortable doing this shit? It's because the courts side with them on this. There have been attempts to sue over this sort of crap. Never goes anywhere.
>>742030130>Why in the fuck do you think companies are so comfortable doing this shit?Because they know no one is going to put in the effort required over what is essentially pocketchange.>attemptsThen you can surely list 10 that all happened in the EU and aren't obvious frivolous bullshit. >paying for any kind of digital mediayou GET you FUCKING DESERVE
I think it's easy to copy the video file from a PS5 to a PC, right? If you can't transfer the files directly, could you capture the video using an external capture card and save it as a file on your computer or something like that? Or does PlayStation have ways to prevent this kind of thing?
>>742033013This is purely a sony fuckover. I've bought a game on steam that legally can't be sold anymore because of licensing issues with the music but I can still DL and play the game because they don't remove it from your library. Try again.
>>742017217If the files reside on my local storage, I can crack any DRM. Sometimes there isn't even any DRM.

>>741989504they are inferior, by default. however there are modpacks that faithfully bring back the ps2 aesthetic and bring back removed content. not suggesting you buy them, those packs usually want an older version anyways. you can downgrade but simply fuck rockstar for leaving them to be fixed by modders
