I don't get iseaki because I don't understand why it has to me someone from our world. From what little I've seen, all it does is speeds up the fish-out-of-water setup, and excuse the character from not knowing society.I prefer the soft-iseaki approach of Dune: the character lives in the universe, but just moved to a new place, and has to adapt there. Keeps me immersed, allows the character to build up skills without contrivance, keeps the fish-out-of-water while also allowing new lore and brings his family along. Jessica was my favorite character in Dune 1: if Paul just got teleported to Dune, we would lose all that regal/motherly/priestly undertones with her.
