I was already done with college by the time TLOU1 came out, I already had all the 90s and 00s under my belt in my gaming experience, and I didn't get why people thought it was some revolutionary thing. It wasn't an awful game, the worst I got out of it was that one save game bug that had to be patched early on and made me lose two hours of progress.
TLOU2 was more obsessed with its message and its plot gimmick rather than the actual execution. Eight hours in I was just done with it and only pushing through to see the memes. It feels like the game just gave up too considering it gives you a fucking machine gun at the start of the final bit.

You got to see that with Abby though, she destroys everything and everyone around her in making the decision to go for revenge. By the end she has lost everybody but the kid she met along the way. I think it's a more effective way to depict the destructive cycle of revenge, it's a far more unique way to approach the theme. I never felt as if the game was telling me what Joel did was wrong, or that he was a bad guy, the game however did show me that from Abby's perspective it surely felt as if he had it coming but we know it isn't as black and white as that and by the end of the game when Ellie is getting ready to do the same thing again I certainly didn't want her to do it.

I played tlou 1 on original release, hardest difficulty, thought it was decent enough when there was gameplay actually present, good enough story.
That original set of massive leaks for tlou 2 and the memes surrounding them were too hysterical for me to ever pickup much less pirate the game, any type of serious notion for me playing it was simply swept aside by both the cringe and the laughter.

Even if I wanted to play it there's 0 capacity for suspension of disbelief, from the absurdity of forced literal jewish levels, lesbian shenanigans, joel being supplanted by what we all originally assumed was an actual tranny, to bigot sandwiches. It's too much, just way too much.
Druckman getting shoed off the carpet with "next guy" and what not perfectly encapsulates everything I feel for the game too.
