The title given to this genre of games is pretty silly but I'm glad we got a small rising of games centred around being social and having fun with others.

>>742215898There are plenty of games like that already.co-op RPGs like BG3 or Barotrauma, sandbox RPGs like Minecraft Terraria or Vintage Story, factory games like Factorio and Satisfactory, etc.The short matches lend themselves to multiplayer much better. You are scheduling a persistent ongoing game with the same people, it is natural to have conflicts where some might not be available every session. This leaves you in an awkward spot where the game must be able to continue without leaving people too far behind.The shorter match formula just flattens things and lets people enjoy the gameplay. As a bonus it is much easier to make.Then again games like lethal company and repo DO have progression as you get more and more money and tools to work with, so if you are actually good at the game you will find yourself getting stronger, making this is an odd nitpick anyway.

Once you hit your 30s it takes 2 weeks of planning to get a friend online for an hour or two. So shit like Phasmo, Lethal Company or Meccha Chameleon are perfect to shoot the shit while catching up on voice chat. MMOs used to fill this void for the 30-50 year old crowd but not everyone still has time to sink 2-20h a week into them anymore plus subscription fee. FPS games are mostly shit and its hard to get ppl to reinstall shit like TF2.

Most people played it on one of its early access builds that was buggy and more fun to play than the current game which is bloated and wasted the last 3 years redesigning the maps instead of fixing whats actually wrong with the game. Lethal Company got more popular because it balanced scary and fun, its fun to play singleplayer as well as multiplayer, its got an active modding community and the dev is actually working on it (now that he's finished his other game). Also procedurally generated maps helps Lethal Company out a lot. Phasmo runs out of steam about 200 hours in once you memorize all the ghost behaviours and the optimal way to play each map.
