Not playing it, because I hated the original Gothic. I get the impression that its popularity arose from it having a decent slav translation and low hardware requirements, meaning that Tomasz could play it on his wheat-powered laptop.

Too bad Dota came up with a brilliant new event, and Im spending my time on that :) I do think I've maxed out my character rather early tho ... nothing's challenging anymore, not orks, not trolls, not even shadowbeasts. I mean, I looted the troll skins for the shrinking potion before the quest, so they were unavailable when I needed them, but I managed to kill the big troll by electrocuting him to death from above ... turns out they're vulnerable.

At that point your main focus is doing talking quests, visiting the camps (with the guys who can escort you there) and exploring non-combat stuff. Talk to Baal Parvez and Mordrag to visit both other camps, they kill stuff for you for some easy XP. Drax can also take you to the new camp via a diff route - same thing. Also if you can get to the new mine after the New Camp you get a digger armor for free, it's not a lot but helps quite a bit. With that armor you can enter the pub for free too. Point is just explore and talk for now

Playing them now as a modern gamer would probably suck i guess but i'll say this, Gothic 2 is much better than 1 so maybe try that before giving up idk. Or just play the remake, it's janky but great

Pickpocketing is so broken I yoinked the strongest armor at the beginning of the game and the blacksmith even upgraded it for me no questions asked.
