They're the retards of the software development world that couldn't even make it in any place reasonably worthwhile, hence why they get paid less and are basically contract workers. Okay apples to apples then, game devs are worse programmers than scientific sim devs. You can talk about the scale being larger in ther former branch of programming jobs, but even correcting for that, game devs are still pretty shit programmers considering their simulations are comparatively slow and inefficient and bad at streaming media and audio-visual cues along with internal data of the simulation compared to people in the scientific side of the simulation world. Not to mention the optimization is wanting in many game engines that is a necessity in scientific simulation engines.

Gamedev is not more intensive than any other job at this point. Maybe in the 90s or 2000s and even the early 2010s you could say that, but now the worst of the worst of the post 2010s CS hype train are all in these game companies along with people that only got this job for a paycheck rather than as a means to hone their skills and produce something worthwhile. The result of that is all game dev tools being oriented towards the lowest common denominator and games being poorly made and implemented as a seconary result.

Money well spent because a language like Jai is objectively what the games industry is going to need after the inevitable second game crash.

One of the objective reasons that game development now takes on average 8 years and therefore has 8x the cost plus 10x the inflation is because C++ is hostile to game development itself, C++ is a bloated mess and the "features" that take so long to come out are in the end a literal waste of time, and it doesn't actually help the process of game development, the committee is clueless to the hardware and performant code.
From this presentation from 2014 you can already tell that experienced developers are starting to have C++ bloat fatigue, it's been over 10 years since then.

It was long overdue for modern general programming languages that actually helped you have control of the hardware and therefore excellent for game development, and not some other objective irrelevant to gamedev like managing some bullshit mental model that is going to have slow performance anyways or it's about "memory safety" or some other irrelevant goal that makes the language fucking rigid and virtually unusuable for gamedev.

A lot of programmers are knowledgeable of C++ or Rust or C#, etc, but it doesn't matter because they are bullshit languages and they are going to waste years of game development time wrangling some stupid faggot feature in those programming languages that is not actually relevant to the game, they are actually retarded and essentially a nodev, nil.

Here's what I mean, Rare was a company built on savvy programmers, but C++ is literally grounding them to dust, instead of making sure that Sea of Thieves was an actually good game, the newer versions of C++ were taking up all that headspace and they wasted years wrangling irrelevant minutia, after this they prob got fired after shit sales, the state of the industry:
