Is Starfield the most overhated game for no reason?
>>
Starfield has received significant criticism. Some of it is based on valid issues. These include repetitive planetary exploration and limited activities. Other backlash appears amplified by high expectations from Bethesda fans. Calling it the most overhated for no reason is not accurate. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 faced intense hate at launch due to technical problems. Starfield has strengths in its RPG systems and ship building. Overall opinion is mixed and subjective.
>>
>>746493867
I agree that the criticism of Starfield isn’t completely unjustified, especially when it comes to the repetitive exploration and limited variety of activities. At the same time, I think some of the backlash goes beyond reasonable criticism because expectations for a Bethesda game were extremely high. It definitely has flaws, but its RPG systems, quests, and ship building still give it some strong points. Calling it either “the most overhated game ever” or “a bad game for no reason” oversimplifies things. In the end, it really comes down to what you value in a game.
>>
>>746493867

I suppose it's not politically correct to mention.

Why do woketards lie so much about starfield?
>>
>>746493983
Yeah that lines up pretty closely with how I see it too.
The exploration loop is the biggest legitimate weak point. Once you’ve done a few dozen planets the procedural generation starts feeling thin and a lot of the outposts or points of interest recycle the same handful of layouts and enemy types. That part of the criticism is fair.
At the same time the volume of pure vitriol went way past “this system is undercooked.” A big chunk of the discourse treated the game like it was some kind of betrayal rather than a mixed-bag Bethesda RPG that simply didn’t hit the same highs as Skyrim or Fallout for a lot of people. The ship-building tools, the companion writing in several of the main faction quests, and the pure role-playing freedom still hold up for the people who actually dig those systems.
So “most overhated for no reason” is too strong, but “completely deserved pile-on” is also too strong. It’s just a very specific flavor of open-world game that either clicks with you or leaves you cold depending on what you’re looking for.

Forspoken is a okay to good game if you ignore everything about the story and the mc.
Also one of the games that gets defended by tards who didn't play it because the mc was a woman. I mean she is a selfish black hey fellow kids catlady and the first scene is her being on trial for stealing a car. She feels like a racist stereotype written by a childless boomer completely missing the point.
Playing the actual game is completely fine, tho.

Pale in comparison to those of a 13yo game developed in less than half the time.
>quests
Worse that those of all their previous games due to the virtue of the far worse world and methods of travel within it.
>and ship building
Spend seven hours building the perfect ship that will then only exist in isolation in a separate, loading screen space void affecting and affected by nothing.
>>
>>746493736
Its neither overhated or underhated.

Its not a bad game its just a bad Bethesda game, and its overpriced for what it is. If it were made by some AA dev and released for $30 barely anyone would care. But it released for AAA prices.

Story is kinda shit and short. Side quests are also shit. Exploration is shit too. Only questline I enjoyed was the pirates and corpo faction quests. Only parts of the world I enjoyed was neon and the pirates base. Everything else was so bland and uninteresting.

I enjoyed it enough in places to not say it's a bad game but I definitely wouldn't call it a good game. It's just kinda meh. Each to his own though.

Nah it's pretty fucking shit.

Bethesda games are good for one reason: Exploration.
Everything else in their games (fallout, elder scrolls) is bad, to serviceable, to pretty good but the exploration is always the selling point.
You choose your class/build, you set out in a direction and you stumble across content and get completely immersed in the game world.
You might be on your way to do a quest and 100 hours later you realise you're getting sidetracked. That's why those games are great.
So what did they do with Starfield? Completely remove that entire aspect of the game. These fucking geniuses took out the one ingredient that makes their games cook and then were dumbfounded that fucking no one liked it.
It's as though no one involved actually has any idea at all about what exactly it is that people play their games for. It's like they've been succeeding almost by accident.

Starfield was just Fallout/Elder scrolls with the janky graphics and animations, serviceable but underwhelming gameplay, average story, crap lore building (usually lore is a strong point) but then just omitted EXPLORATION. What the fuck were they thinking?

They made a game that should have been an epic, solar system spanning adventure rpg and made it into a series of loading screens, procedurally generated trash and truly hideous character designs and aesthetics.
It's just not good.
>>
>>746494243
>exploration loop is the biggest legitimate weak point. Once you’ve done a few dozen planets the procedural generation starts feeling thin and a lot of the outposts or points of interest recycle the same handful of layouts and enemy types
That's a (you) problem, I've spent 140 hours and only ran into recycled maps like 6 times, half of those in the main quest because main quest was designed by retards. JUST learn to tell randomly generated names from custom names when you're looking at the planet map, and only check out those that are actually unique. There are more unique dungeons here than in Fallout 4, that's for sure, people are just very bad at finding them
>>
>>746496136
Skyrim has a map that was enjoyable to explore. Exploring in Starfield is just map screens and loading zones.

Skyrim also has a longer story and more interesting factions that vary more.

No they're only good for one reason: Role Playing. They have so many quests that lead you down so many professions that you can basically roleplay as anything in them, and you'll find a ton of quests supporting whoever you decided to be. Unfortunately imagationlets don't play games like that, they just consume quests mindlessly and don't think about their character at all. Imaginationlets just wander around maps aimlessly looking for things to "stumble upon"

I know right?! They erased 'the' ONE thing that they are actually doing well. I think le thousand planets is something that sounds very well on shareholders meeting but anyone who has ever played any game knows it's bound to be shit.
All they had to do was make Fallout 4.5 in space and they fucked even that up!!!

I like the game more than most people (I spent a good amount of time playing last night), but the companions alone are worthy of extreme criticism. This is what's available:
>Robot with no personality
>White roastie who gets mad about everything and isn't interestin in the slightest
>Literal cuck who is a cowboy and drags his ex-wife's daughter everywhere
>Gay black man who can't stop talking about sucking dick
>Brown girl who is a militant member of a retarded religion
Awful. They're all awful.

Reminder that everyone here laughed at skyrim on release and did so for years. It's only now after little subhuman zoomgroids have come in butthurt that we called skyrim a dumbed down casualfest that you're trying to force muh skyrim was always good meme. Exploration is obviously a thing in this game, problem is the sense of scale fucks it over. The average gamer is a like a child given a tablet for long car rides, they require consistent stimulation, which is why most open world games are smaller and apply the 40 second rule where new things are discovered more frequently. While Bethesda has since added more POIs with the Free Lanes update, the problem is how far apart each one is the moment you land on a planet, and it can take you a good 5-10 minutes to travel to each POI on foot, 2-5 minutes if you're using a land vehicle. For anyone without a good amount of patience, this can make Starfield's open world feel empty and repetitive, which is one of the many reasons why the reception for this game is so mixed.
>>
>>746498058
>skyrim zoomer never found unique items

>our game is uninteresting and empty as fuck

Emil-coded post
>>
>>746498808
It's not the player's fault at all, the fault is on Bethesda for not recognizing what type of people plays their games. Starfield's open world design makes more sense for a survival craft type of game, not a AAA WRPG.
>>
>>746498596
>The average gamer requires consistent stimulation
Games require good design to make long treks feel like nothing at all. Kenshi does it, Fallout knew you'd spend a lot of time walking across an empty wasteland so they gave your Pip-Boy a radio, Starfield had nothing before the car update. You were genuinely tasked with pressing W for ten real life minutes while absolutely nothing was going on around you; no companion banter, no unique vistas 90% of the time, no absolutely necessary materials you'd care to mine. If players end up doomscrolling in-between dungeons, is it really their fault or that of the game's for not holding their attention?

genuinely my favorite bethesda game after fo4 and fo76, also the last game that ferret baudoin, a black isle OG worked on (he made USS Constitution quest, Silver Shroud quests, and the Covenant conspiracy quests to name a few).

I think it's safe to assume that there are a lot of people who also genuinely enjoy the less hands-on approach into exploration. The game's pretty much peak dadgaming. I don't like using "silent majority" but it kind of feels a game that's found an audience which usually doesn't take part in gaming discourse, which means that a lot of the game's proponents don't really become apparent if all you do is use online discourse around the game as a barometer.

Oh it definitely has a decent audience size, enough to allow Bethesda to keep supporting it for at least another year or two as they have announced a Starborn DLC for it. I'd imagine if TES6 and Fallout 5 came out just before Starfield, people would still shit on Bethesda for not putting that workforce into making TES7 and Fallout 6 instead. And then you'd also have to consider the fact that if the people did get what they want, they would find flaws in them and whine about that as well. At the end of the day, the release priority doesn't really matter anyway because some people will still find a way to hate these games and Bethesda (especially in this era where people are more entertained by games failing to succeed and companies shutting down), so Bethesda will just have to bide their time and let those people piss and shit themselves until they eventually get what they think they want (which won't be perfect).
