if 4chan "was always woke before 2016" then why gamergaite was such popular thing in 2014?
for sologamy purposes
>>746538501Vivian James owes me raising my children
gamergate was fucking stupid in retrospect
>>746538501>ESL>asking about pre-2016 4chan historylol at least you're not making up your own version
>>746538501Get off the computer and go touch grass
People were sick of how slimy game journos were, that was the impetus of GG
It was a remnant of the “le epic raid culture” of the 2000s. Used to be, retards from /b/ or /v/ could stir up shit on another websites and usually end up embarrassing them. ebaumsworld, gaia online, gamespot, digg, emopuddle, habbo hotel, and plenty of others were hacked, raided or trolled for the lulz. One day, Anita’s kickstarter showed up, and /v/ chose her as their next target but they failed to embarrass her and instead gave her tons of free publicity and ended up looking like idiots themselves. This mindbroke /v/, and instead of admitting defeat and moving on they started doubling down, making excuses, and committing themselves to a culture war that eventually turned /v/ into the jeet infested shit hole that it is today.
>>746539254>newfag makes up some KYM garbagelol
>was always woke before 20164chan was never woke, this is something newfag tranny tourists say to try to rewrite history to make it sound like they always belonged. Some faggots who spouted "omg le delicious trap xD" for years and being ignored meant nothing overall.
>>746538501>4chan "was always woke before 2016"Who the fuck told you that?
Because "It was all just counterculture! 4chan wasn't actually a bunch of meanie weenies back then!" is unironic historical revisionism.
>>746538501Never has been. The if is bullshit.By definition a site with majority white people that happily says nigger to eachother all day, every day, every thread, is not woke and that's the way things should be.
>>746539985Nah it's mostly true, plus the "games journalists" were obviously hypocritical in a way that has a schizo-fying effect, and 4chan/this part of the internet was slowly aging out of a "fuck bu$h" politics that was never going to be like a permanent condition
>>746539950Remember the 2014fags who were here when everyone else was moving to 8ch because of the janniepocalypse selectively enforcing for gay shit? They now repetitively spam about how they Trump subreddit getting shut down "ruined 4chan" because they heard it was le epicThey don't realize they're second wave cancer and have nothing to do with the gay pedo oldfags from SA who were also very racist and were only liberal/socialist in the interest of complaining more
>>7465404824chan's always been seen as the scumbag armpit of the internet. The only difference is it used to be because of /b/ rather than /pol/.That said it's hilarious how times change through circumstance. Once upon a time, /v/ sent a big thank you collage to nintendo treehouse. Can't remember the last time a good word was said about them since.
>>746540482Pretending that was countercultural was always patheticEveryone was jerking themselves off hating Bush back when he was in office tooMuh shit's fucked was the normalfag edgy thing of the decade
>>746539950woke tourists andd invaders tat ave been here for a wile
>>746538501GG was mostly /v/ reacting to a demographic shift in the market pushing games and online behavior further away from their tastes spearheaded by games journalists creating a narrative to facilitate it. Everyone knew video game journalism was completely unreliable by this point after the Kane and Lynch 2 debacle on IGN and numerous other previous scandals, but suddenly a lot of articles switched from being simple paid reviews to calling out the dominant culture in gaming: A bunch of dudes with elitist attitudes calling each other names and slurs as insults to get under each others' skin who, in some journalists' articles at the time, were claimed to play "12 hours a day and chase off anyone normal who attempts to compete".Anita was an easy target for a lot of that rage, she had without a doubt slept around for reviews for her game so a campaign against games journalism with her as the biggest example of their failings was a no brainer. When the media discovered they were under attack by a coordinated assault, many of them circled the wagons and looked for anything to use as their shield. The thing was, this shift in media tactics was at its core still paid marketing, except now it was an attempt to change the market and open it up to people in general. To do that, the old audience had to be ran off or at least marginalized with the hopes that games would start to bring in the Wii and World of Warcraft amount of market penetration. With journalism having a large warchest to work with, public outrage wasn't going to help change it really. The thing was, by this time the lines had been drawn and /v/ was frothing mad at the idea of inclusivity and such despite for a long time having no problem with it, so long as people who played video games assimilated with the dominant culture. This bled into other aspects of life, causing a cultural shift away from a liberal attitude.tl;dr, video game culture under attack, /v/ sides with their enemies' enemies.
