What's your opinion on UT/DR fangames as a whole? You think if the fandom didn't focus on the skeletons as much as they did right now we would have other fangames like UTY? A game that got so popular it even got a japanese localization not too long ago.UT/DR adjacent games and fangames are also worth mentioning.
>>747607802I wonder if there will ever be a Japanese translation of DRY.
I think fangames in general are awesome, even if every one of them individually is not necessarily as great.as for ut/dr ones, it's mixed feelings. The above still applies completely, but they exist within a community that is very "stiffling" about ideas. not just in terms of people disagreeing about what should or shouldn't happen, but it's one of those communities where you can suggest something unusual, and the whole room, so to speak, looks at you like you just killed someone.
>>747608024It already has one, but I have no idea of how good of a translation that might be.DRY has yet to explode in popularity, which will probably happen if/once the game gets finished, the fact that it has a fully original cast (counting the UTY characters as original) also makes it harder to "market", fangames like Deltatraveler make use of DR cast which helps a lot in making more people interested on it.
>>747608107Seeing the development in UT fangames during the early years is kind of sad, at first we got a good variety of fangames with original ideas, like Red, and what ifs battles like the one with Alphys, but two years later most of the fangames turned into single fights with different Sans variants, I don't judge people for making what they want, but it does make you wonder where all the people with original ideas went.
>>747608590>but it does make you wonder where all the people with original ideas went.consider how a lot, not all but a lot of the old creatives from 4chan started to distances themselves as the site got more hostile to OC, and then see how the UT fanbase got more hostile to takes that don't fit what they think is acceptable. While there's a lot of good creators still around, a significant portion of the fanbase basically clubbed the rest of itself over the head to push it into an idea of what's acceptable. I've seen people mourn the state of the fandom saying things like "I miss the way it was in 2015"
>>747608590I really liked the "Battle against a Think Tank" fangame. Anybody remember that?
>>747608590most of the people with original ideas probably gave up after all the prequel soul fangames died, which is sad to think about
>>747608858I liked how the violent path in that fangame goes with the idea that the player is doing the genocide route because they like fighting, feels more accurate than what UT does by saying that you did it out of curiosity. Some people probably did do it for that, but I'm sure most people wouldn't play the genocide route if there were no original battles in it.
>>747608856>the UT fanbase got more hostile to takes that don't fit what they think is acceptable.I think it was less that they got hostile and more like the original takes didn't get as much attention as swap AUs that become more and more popular over the years. We can't forget that one of the biggest pieces of fancontent from the fandom was Glitchtale and that wasn't good, it was a bit more original than your average AU but it was still centered around the genocide route.
>>747609560>I think it was less that they got hostile and more like the original takes didn't get as much attention as swap AUs that become more and more popular over the years.what you're saying is probably true 'as well' but they absolutely became more hostile. Remember in the early fandom it was normal to depict fisk and chara as he/she/they whatever you wanted. There was purity testing in 2015 but it's not even comparable in scope or magnitude to what it became, and that kind of behavior does run some people off
>>747607802too estrogenic
Even the original takes aren't safe from being unoriginal
>>747609865DRY, Naranja, Oldentale and the other local fangames are going to give it a testosterone injection, just wait.
>>747609779The thing is that most people don't stay for very long on a fandom, I imagine a lot of "normies" left one or two years after the release, which gave space to the neo puritans that were always there, it doesn't help that people that were into that gender stuff 10 years ago mutated and became even more belligerent to those that didn't follow their rules. Which is why today we have people that will try to murder you if you don't comply with their gender studies.
>>747610494>Axis after realizing he's the most ignored character in UTY's cast
>>747610006Yeah, you just wait until I have my heavy metal genoslides battle where you beat a monster to death while spitting one liners.
>>747608378Imagine there being a Japanese UT and DR fangames community on two channel or some other Japanese image board
>>747610845Dusttrust X already beat you to it, and so did that fangame before Dusttrust and the fangame even before that one. They are just missing the one liners.
>>747608590Its probably more that their inspiration ran out. The community didn't encourage ideas like those, so no more were made.
>>747610659>the most ignored characterBecause there are zero things to complain about him or his area. Steamworks was just that well made
>>747610957Right now they are discussing how much the ending in UTY sucked while praising everything else, meanwhile they have an anon taking requests and doing a lot of Clover x Kanako art, which will in turn inspire one programmer there to make a true lab fangame in Godot for UTY in which you save Kanako...
>>747608856Aside from yuri and gender wars, are there any instances of this creative repression killing games or cool ideas you can think of?
>>747611051>Because there are zero things to complain about him or his area. Steamworks was just that well made>doing your job too well gets you ignoredScary, imagine the remote possibility of that happening with any of the fangames here, makes me think of what would have happened if UTY had a decent but kind of boring ending, would we still be talking about it?
What do you retards think of going back to >>>/vrpg/ or, better yet, fucking off to >>>/vg/ which is the dedicated board for general, recurring threads.
>>747611094nta, I think it was less that it directly killed fangames and more like it drove away a lot of people that could have made fangames
>>747611094I know you said "aside from gender wars", butI've seen multiple times in writing circles like on the various writing channels/servers where people will kind of overreact to something that is a perceived sleight against normality. I saw someone discussing a ut related story once, call frisk he, and got jumped on for it.there's a foreign person shipping toriel and asgore that got swarmed because his language didn't have gender neutral so when it got translated to "he" in reference to kris. ideas that aren't really about the idea of gender getting the hammer because the favored gender runes weren't spoken.saw someone that I personally can't stand get mobbed for wanting to depict kanako as racist and while I couldn't stand them, I mean I'm not going to act like them getting mobbed over something like that is reasonable you know?creatives get attacked by the barking dogs when you say things wrong (speaking in your own language)
>>747611197This community was kickstarted by people who spent an entire year dumbfounded by the pacifist ending. So many discussions of how it could have been better that eventually lead to people trying original works. So yeah, if it was good people would have moved on fast. Only way for good to stay in discussion is for it to be REALLY good and outstanding, like the skeleton bros or Spamton.
>>747611080> Right now they are discussing how much the ending in UTY sucked while praising everything elseFrom what I’ve seen they’ve loved all the endings and haven’t really seen much negative commentary from them so, don’t know where you’re getting this, are you just assuming?
>>747611246hey buddy, this isn't a general. sorry you got it wrong again though!
>>747608858Are there any videos of this full game? Because all I can find are ending compilations.
>>747611459anon, the entire post was a joke about the 2chan reaction mirroring the initial reaction UTY had on people here
>>747609880Sometimes I worry I've copied UTY too much with how many foxes Ive included. I didn't intend to copy it, but it seems like that may have happened by accident.
>>747607802>Deltatraveler YellowWasn't this fucking canceled?
>>747611598I think but I saw some people do fan art of it recently.
>>747611553Oh ok, thanks for clarifying.
>>747611459>From what I’ve seen they’ve loved all the endings and haven’t really seen much negative commentary from them soThat's to be expected, japs unironically think dying is badass so they would support Clover's decision
>>747611642>>747611598the original take was just with UTY clover and kanako, this one is with DRY1 characters (but likely is just a mockup and not a real game)
>>747610962No, not emo whining with screamo music. I mean Schwarzenegger one liners, with chiptune Pantera blaring in the background like its Doom. Real metal.
>>747611598iirc, it was cancelled years ago, the drawing in the OP is just fanart of a what a Deltatraveler yellow would look like if it were based on the Deltarune Yellow fangame
>>747611651Don’t forget relatable, what with Japan’s relation with suicide rates.
>got a flu this weekend>too tired/sick to work on my writingborn to die, world is a fuck
>>747611750emo whining and screamo music are edgier than regular metal and action here one liners
