I played this almost all weekend. I stopped myself to play my current main game (ghost of tsushima) but I didn't have as much fun as killing 10 wolves. I have to remind myself that this character will be wiped and there's no point in playing right now but I can't help it. I think this game will falter a few months after people reach 60. Throughout the 1 - 60 journey there's this constant pull to relieve tension/friction. At level 1 you are weak and slow and have no money, bag space, gear, spells, mount, flight points etc. Killing a single non-elite enemy takes a large proportion of your health/mana.You want better gear so you lose less health/mana and kill enemies faster. You want to level up so you can get new or higher rank spells. You need gold so you can buy bags, with more bag space you can hold more items that you can sell so you can have more gold and maybe save up enough to buy a mount so you aren't slow as shit, or buy items from the auction house, or to learn new spells from a class trainer and so on. You're never quite comfortable but the game gives you plenty of ways to solve these shortcomings and that's what makes it fun.Once players reach 60 and obtained their epic mount and leveled up a profession, most of the tension and friction will have been resolved and the game becomes just like retail, where the only thing left to improve is your gear (or PvP rank) and you spend most of your time standing in a capital city hoping the get invited to a group. Then players will do their first Molten Core run and unsurprisingly one shot every single boss because they have 0 mechanics and now they are locked out of loot for the rest of the week, and wonder what they're supposed to do next. I also doubt any form of horizontal progression can address these issues.
