I'm sure everybody has a different definition but for me a good song has lyrics that fit incredibly well with the structure of the original, including stresses and of course syllables, also lyrics that are also not just changing a couple words, for example, the song Holiday by Green Day says

even on cheap headphones you should be able to hear the roboticness of both the singing and the music. I'll add my two cents. I agree with most things that were said in the previous posts especially about syllables, stress and meter, and taking care to notice internal rhymes or slant rhymes, consonance and assonance, etc. that you may want to preserve. It helps to think about the length of a syllable too. "Hour" (two syllables) might be replaced well with "fire" but less well with two syllables that take longer to say like "stickshift." Pay attention to when words rhyme at multiple syllables, such as "loopy" and "droopy" compared to "loopy" and "sleepy."
I love serious songs and find them as engaging as funny or fun songs, but serious songs can't be an excuse to not take it seriously or just make it a reference list. A good serious song is tackled with sincere care, as if you were writing a musical adaptation of the video game.
For funny songs, pace your jokes. You generally want the song to become funnier or more exaggerated as it goes on, culminating in the funniest joke at the end, usually with a twist. For example, the Gacha song we have this year has the twist of saying one good that the Gachatard actually plays the games, which is very funny because it's a twist on the previous style of humor that makes fun of a different group of people than the rest of the song. I start funny songs by thinking of the final joke twist and then populating the rest with bespoke jokes.
Finally, when a song repeats a line, think about whether it's best for YOUR song to repeat the same line or to include a different joke instead. The same joke won't be funny twice, so really think about what works best.
I think it's okay to have a song that references or works with the original song as long as it is intentional and not just lazy or generic mad libs.

Important. I'll add actionable advice: "sing your song yourself, at least in your head, before anyone sees it once". Most of the time if people try your song and it's not singable, they just silently move to the next one.

I'll also add that you're not presenting individual lines but a full end-to-end song. Look over the structure of the song and plan stuff out before writing 1 word if you want to truly excel. Does the song start and end on the same line? Make it dual-purpose and have progression around it.

I'll use the Saya song "Grips Of An Angel" from last year as my example, picture related. It starts and ends on the same line and the line matters both times. The 1st line instantly introduces the idea that the singer is wrong in the head with more vaguepost lyrics that only let you know he's fucked in the head somehow. Then it drops the bomb that he'd kill himself without this girl. Then it immediately goes into the pre-chorus explaining what the situation is: his world is redrawn as a gorefest, except this 1 girl. The chorus vagueposts again with "ignore what you came for", which in later choruses evolves into explicit danger and pain. The song gets more specific, and adds off-putting details about fruit "being meat". Then there's a spoken bit that isn't in the lyrics where Saya brings "fruit" home and he shares it with her but doesn't want to hear its origin. Then as the song nears the end, it goes off the rail and the singer embraces insanity by talking about murdering people to eat them, that the real Saya has tentacles, and that he's "in her grips". The song echos the 1st line, but instead of a vaguepost implication that sets up the idea of the narrator not being all there, it's now an acknowledgement that he's unhappy and aware he's wrong in the head.

Just a singfag on it but it gets slightly desync'd with the original I sang over for sure, I sang directly over the original track and the raw audio was timed with the original singers there. There's a very slight timing difference in versions (which is probably why the other singer got a bit desynced over time too). It can probably be fixed on that instrumental just by moving the singer's takes slightly more forward as the song goes on, it's a short song so there's not that many lines to adjust.

You can do literally any album designs you want, but keep in mind we vote if it's for an album and not a specific song (specific song art is always used for the related song, extremely rare there are multiple options for one). We only make so many songs each year of course, so we tend to have more art than album slots.

Expect something like roughly 6-8 Albums, it's been 7 for the past 3 years:

1-3 Industry/Platforms winners (sometimes they only share 1 album and either art is fine in that case)

This isn't a hard rule, but if you want to win the poll then it's basically mandatory.

There's still room to fine tune it if you want to, like the instrumental and singers are timed well at the start and end of the song, but it's very clearly not timed with the singers for a few lines starting 20 seconds in with "Let's all". Mocking Concord was in vogue 2 full years ago when we did multiple tracks about it. Saying "Concord 5" in 2026 is not a punchline, it's just a reference that's already severely dated.
There appears to be 0 jokes or clever wordplay or commentary in the song, the entire concept is "lets attack a strawman that has already been beaten to death by repeatedly saying woke games will flop and are made by jewish whores". You could write a song about the evils of woke that tries to say something new, or makes bespoke jokes, but this does not. Write something about how a specific IP got watered down and become worse over a few decades because of le woke boogeyman if you want, that would be interesting.
Here's the real question: What do you see in this song that is genuinely of value? It's a very fun idea, how far you can go kinda depends on your writing skill level. Pick a song with a structure that works for it first obviously. Do you know how to start the lyrics of a song to make sure a listener realizes what the topic is without knowing in advance? It doesn't have to be complex, it can literally start with "I was once mocked for my dedotated wam/ now dey will fear who I am" and there ya go, you set it up, just tell the story from there.

About 330 tracks on unfinished, but keep in mind a lot of songs were moved to finished entirely or never put on unfinished at all, it's probably like 400 written songs or something. And like already mentioned, every year the musical inherits a larger debt of songs people wrote in the past that weren't sung, so they're just copy pasted to the new sheet. Frankly a lot of those are not done because they are bad and they still won't be done. Though of course there are always examples of ones not done because of reasons like "it's a female-sung song about erping on vrchat as possibly a guy pretending to be a girl", which means only a really specific type a singfag is able and willing to work with that.

Nobody said a lyric has to be hard to understand to be good. I think both songs about Link's Awakening last year were great examples of deep lyrics. Words above a 3rd grade reading level, extremely fast paced wordplay revolving around constantly repeating sounds, a strictly followed flow in line after line, consistently works in references to the game itself that enhance the meaning, all while telling a full bespoke storyline from the POV of a character within a specific beloved game. I figure there is more effort in forming 1 of these verses than the entire wokieflop song.
