Even spidey 1 was carried by the plot written by comic writers, I could tell the actual gameplay was shallow compared to Arkham. Sony's other devs do have their own unique shtick (even Guerilla and Housemarque), but Insomniac has been a walking stereotype of bland AAA tripe for a decade or more. Ps2 Ratchet was a sci fi satirical comedy that could be dark and dramatic when necessary. The ps3 games were trying to ape Pixar and serious sff but felt ridiculous and not in a good way. The post-crack in time games are toddler-tier and make Ilumination look like Tolstoy and have no dramatic stakes despite the professional writer and crappy attempts at pulling heartstrings.They overcorrected due to Deadlocked's tone getting mixed receptions and that imo is the start of their downfall. Finding a mixture between the trilogy and Deadlocked's could have worked far better for the post-ps2 games.
