what I didn't like is how there is little left untold. it's very straightforward, and after a while, you don't feel confused. You kinda get where this is all going and it ends exactly how you would expect. When compared to other nu silent hills, they had more mystery to them, they felt "cursed" at times, especially shF. You felt lost. In townfall, you feel lost until halfway into the story, figure out what's going on, then it just kinda goes through the motions. By the end of the game it felt like a shitty Remedy story, like Control or something. All style and no real substance or subtext. Just having some random shit that felt "cool" at the time. There's a surprising amount to find in the game, it's got a lot of good moments of pretty decent presentation, the characters alright, and as the only other game to really revisit SH2's take on the town, it tackles that premise in a decent enough different way.With Homecoming, you wouldn't hate yourself if you tried it for curiosity's sake, but you'd probably end up not liking the game. Some interesting choices with the plot, really good boss visual designs, but pretty shit characters, pretty meh to actually play, and too directly derivative of things it clearly doesn't understand.

I don’t like the puzzles in this game, not because they’re hard but because it isn’t always clear what you’re working with. It took me way too long to find that stupid poster with the number 5 in the pharmacy. Once you find it, there isn’t much of a puzzle left. I also got stuck on the x ray puzzle because I didn’t know you could turn the laptop on despite trying to before since they tucked its tiny power button down in the corner. Once it’s on, it basically just tells you the solution and there isn’t anything to think about.

There's also some mild YA-tier conflict with her friends that I guess if you're being charitable could also be found in a VN like Higurashi but even Higurashi was much darker than the story in SHF.
