I feel like we need to have a conversation about this. In the past few weeks there has been a huge explosion in PC ports that were primarily aided by the use of AI to do majority of the work.

I was wondering how you guys feel about this? Personally I don't really care as long as the end product is good but I know others may feel differently.

These retards can't understand there's a difference between something being vibecoded and something being ai assisted
They see something used ai for anything at all and it is instantly labeled slop
Ship had multiple people working on it and even though they used ai they reviewed what it did, tested it and then implemented it
The slop usually comes in the form of being vibecoded and ends up being like the sonic the fighters recomp where it wasn't tested, most weren't able to run it and just terrible all around which led to it being taken down within hours of its release

Nintendo makes the vast majority of their old games available to this day and their catalog is only going to continue to grow. I dont understand why people act they leave their old games to rot when they dont. You may not like their method of delivery, but you cant say they dont do anything with them.

The only games I think they have truly lost are their pre-donkey kong arcade games and maybe their satellaview stuff. Both of those are in legally gray areas anyway

this is one of the few recomps with an explicit no-AI policy thats being worked on by several of the people from unleashed recompiled which kicked off this trend. its nearly ready for release and plays perfectly on my PC apart from issues that were present in the retail build of the game. idk of any "uwp port" and i doubt its maintained by the people working on the recomp.

AI is a killshot to ego projects. The problem I see upcoming is that almost nobody is using local stuff for this, so I do see it as people spitefully "accidentally" shooting themselves in the foot by being cunts to good fan translators or decomp/recompers, and if claude and other services shut this down, you end up with even more slopcompers who are rushing to put things out for X post rep instead of making sure things are good and stable.
I used to trust decomps that took ages as being high quality, now I have 0 clue because the dev is new, had 0 rep and who knows if Im installing malware

That's the problem. 90% of these recomps and decomps are a complete mess. I tried the resident evil 1 decomp being shilled here and it breaks when fighting the snake boss (among other things). The upset isn't coming from Ai usage, but putting out shit that's half ready and calling it done.
>>
>>749056842
AI won't get shut down and it'll eventually do better work than the high quality decomps but yeah you're otherwise right. I really worry for the OOT recomp + RT for example. It was already walking on thin ice I feel like, and Dario is your typical leftytroon that hates AI with thousands of orbiters. It's not hard to imagine some vibe coder triggering that entire discord.

But in the end, who cares? AI will solve emulation and such either way. These people, if they don't adopt it themselves, will just be forgotten losers in just a few years.
>>
>>749057217
Welcome to the '80s. Plenty of games broke down like that. It's the reason the "Nintendo Seal of Quality(TM)" was created. Although it certified basically nothing (game boots. nothing about being game-breaking bug-free)

Even if 100% of these AI recomps are bad, the ability to have a ground floor for games that never actually had any real focus or talent on decompiling them to begin with (quick, name a non-Nintendo decompilation project. Hard Mode: No Jak & Daxter) is pretty valuable in its own right. Yeah, they are bad and rushed out by people that don't care, but if it is out there, actual work can be done to improve it by other people. AI like most tech only need to make money when investors stop investing. Then they enshitiffy the product and charge double but most people wont leave so they keep profit. That's because people try them out only to realize that the AI ports don't fucking work after the first 1-2 hours, that Paper Mario one is the worst offender because the broken texture mapping could cause epileptic seizures when it starts strobing. I personally don't mind if generative AI is used to make these things, but promptjeets are just shitting them out as fast as possible with zero testing or peer review, like they're burger king fries and the guy's dumping half a can of salt over them and then he winds up including an onion-less onion ring chip while scooping them up into the frycup. It's made worse because these same guys dump their projects immediately after release in order to race to the next game to stamp their twitter handles onto.

>The upset isn't coming from Ai usage, but putting out shit that's half ready and calling it done.
And that's always been an issue with projects like this, even before all the AI shit started happening. Look at what happened with translation romhacks, how there used to be this massive, unspoken rule where one guy could call dibs on literally every project and then sit on them for decades because if somebody else tried to do their own it'd be seen as either muscling in on another person's project or creating an unnecessary redundancy. The only difference I'm seeing between then and now is how quickly people are able to spin out these half-baked efforts onto the internet.
Doesn't help that you have faggots like the ones on youtube going around screaming LOOK AT THIS THING HERE and creating a false image that these things represent a final product.

So that I can get a better understanding of where you're coming from and we can have an honest discussion. There was no need to be that confrontational brother.

This will all come crumbling down, but we have a small window of opportunity where we can use the tools against the people above us. I think people should take advantage of the situation. These speed run decomps may not be the best use case for the masses, but if that's how some people want to use it so be it.

Personally, I'm using it to speed up production on some personal tools and properly document the process and how it works. Once this all goes away, these companies will be left with nothing or bankrupt, but I'll still have my tools.

>So that I can get a better understanding of where you're coming from and we can have an honest discussion.
I apologise, I just assumed you were arguing in bad faith.
But yeah, AI companies to me just seem like one big pyramid scheme and Ideally, generative AI tools would be open source so that anyone can use them as they see fit with out the arbitrary limitations placed on them by the investment blackholes that are the companies that run them. I also use AI to help me code the game I'm working on and I dont have much issue with generative AI other than how it's seen as a tool to replace creativity and effort instead of enhancing them.
