effective satire requires at least some amount of understanding and affection for what is being satirized
pure seething hatred isnt enough
you need to truly understand what youre making fun of
otherwise it will always come off as insincere
think of that satire of MDE that came out in 2016 that ends with "im forgotten" which is all anyone remembers of it because of how immediately self defeating and ironic it was
it left no impact at all because the creator was clearly not very familiar with sam hyde or mde and could not come up with a good criticism beyond calling him mean or racist

and in the worst cases the thing being criticized will be so misunderstood by the satirist that the thing itself will be elevated
thats how you get people liking media for "the wrong reasons"
think of starship troopers or joker

contrast this with the movie Airplane!
the film makers had a love for the genre they were making fun of and as a result the jokes remain entertaining long after the subject of the satire had died

You need some sort of grounding in reality to make satire work, can't just make schizophrenic ramblings.

reality: In America, guns are easier to purchase than most other countries
satire: In America, guns can be purchased at the corner store (example GTA)
schizo nonsense: In America, guns are used as currency, every man, woman, and child have them, babies in cribs have one. WE DON'T HAVE THAT IN GERMANY!

Driving is miserable and care suck and I’m tired of pretending otherwise.

My car is just a money pit that brings minimal value to my life or any enjoyment, and driving is always an awful experience, dealing with traffic, retard drivers, insane illegal and dangerous activity where I’m constantly on edge that I will have an accident and either get raped by insurance just be crippled/die.

I would get down on my knees and thank Lord Jesus Christ if they tore up the highways and built a massive train network like in China or Europe, I would never ever drive again in that case and be happier for it.

>woah epic scenic vista
For every moment where you can relax and drive in a nice area alone there are endless hours of being stuck in traffic or paying car related bills or paying for gas or having something break down or dealing with utter retards who can’t drive on the road and so on.
It not worth it and driving isn’t actually that fun if we’re being honest. Anyone telling you otherwise is a liar who barely ever drives anywhere or is seriously coping about what a huge financial mistake their car purchase was.

Get a motorbike and you will be much happier and enjoy the scenery more, and take the train if you ever need to travel anywhere far.
>>
>>749075021
Yeah, but like, that doesn't really happen. Aside from the British. I think you might just be insecure and assume that's the case when it isn't necessarily so.
>>

>>
>>749075238
I actually drive a lot just for fun. I'll be out for 6 hours at a time just cruising around.
>>
>>749075389
One of the smartest things my dad ever taught me was what a scam cars are.

Genuinely you should never spend more than absolutely necessary for a basic reliable car unless you are actually so rich you can keep cars as a hobby or someone else (your company) is footing the bill.
>>
>>749068281
I might be more anti-car if
A. Riding a motorcycle wasn't so fun and
B. Public transport wasn't a coinflip to being a victim of some form of crime/heavy annoyance
C. Public transport ever ran consistently and on time.
City slickers got it fucking rough
>>
>>749075503
If you have 6 hours to drive around aimlessly then you are just underage or a manchild coping with his crippling economic decisions.
>>
>>749075574
How is a motorcycle the same as a car?
Motorbikes and mopeds are great, I wish more places in North America were friendlier for them.

I have a vintage vespa I restored but people will genuinely try to run you off the road for no reason at all when you ride around here.

My ideal situation is a moped or motorbike for myself travelling around town, a backup van for when I travel with the kids and family and need a private vehicle, and taking the bus/train every other time.
>>
>>749075576
You can't really call others manchildren when the stress from something trivial like driving gives you an existential crisis.
>>
>>749075710
>how is a motorcycle the same
Public transport people generally treat motorcycles the same as cars, though I agree they're very different
>>
>>749075714
I just don’t enjoy subjecting myself to it and aim to drive as little as possible going forward.
The fantasy of the open road is just a fantasy and an American cultural cope for all the bullshit we have to put up with.
>>
>>749075768
Imo I see motorcyclists and bicyclists as more or less aligned, if roads were safer for one they would also be for the other.
>>

The open road 100% exists as soon as you leave the metro. The best part is you can fucking drive wherever you want if you so choose.
>>
>>749075862
That's funny because as a motorcyclist I hate both cyclists and ebike cyclists. You are a pedestrian, either get up to speed or get off the road, jagoff
>>
>>749068281
It's not actually about the cars. It's about people letting their personal beliefs and aspirations be subsumed by the desires of whoever has the money and power to astroturf the mainstream with their preferred version of reality.

The American "Small Town" used to be built for people to walk around, with sidewalks and shit. All coalesced around a factory or mill or mine. Look at any place over 100 years old in Pennsylvania, upstate New York, or New England to see what I mean. You'll see neighborhoods of single family houses and duplexes and a commercial center of town with retail buildings with apartments on the upper floors. That's a real town with an identity. People would actually run into each other on the street, use the parks, and form a meaningful community.

But now, a "small town" is just a couple strips of houses directly abutting a main road with no sidewalks. Maybe with a "professional development" for doctor's offices on one end and a strip mall on the other. It's much more antisocial. It's not a place to belong, it's just a place to live.

Every Hallmark movie is about towns like the first one, everybody wants to live in a town like that. But there's this all or nothing mentality that leads to people rabidly defending the latter as if they were one and the same. News outlets, real estate developers and major businesses all media bomb us to think it's "Progressive Bullshit" to live in a town where you can walk to a locally owned diner to have a cup of coffee and breakfast before walking to work while your kids walk themselves to school in safety in just a couple minutes.

How is that not better for American culture and identity than needing to drive four minutes to get to a Dunkin' Donuts to choke down a bacon egg and cheese on your 45 minute commute? While your kids ride the bus for half an hour both ways crammed with misbehaved brats popped out by drug addicts?
You've been convinced that's all normal. This game is about how that happened.
>>
>>749075865
My point is the “fantasy” never aligns with reality and driving always is shit.
It’s uncomfortable, tiring, and the roads get worse and worse every year, both in terms of their quality and the other drivers on the road. Not to mention again the costs connected with car ownership.

>but muh freedom
Literally fake, any car from the past 15 years is full of spyware and digital locks on everything, and you CAN’T actually go anywhere you want.

If you want freedom and scenic views get a motorbike honestly, or just ride the train lol.
I can get the same view for a fraction of the cost plus I can sleep or read a book, watch a film, play my Nintendo Switch in popup mode with motion controls, even go to the bathroom and take a shit when I like. It’s so much better it’s not even funny.
Last year I took a cross country train trip with my wife and daughter and it was way more relaxing and fun than any road trip I’ve ever been on.

You can even get off and stay for a day or two then catch another train heading onwards to continue the journey. No worries about parking or worrying about “the car”.

You'd still have your own house and a car, you'd just be walking to work in the spring and summer because it's good for you, and using your car to pick up groceries from Elbert's two minutes away instead of Wal-Mart 15 minutes away.
And you'd be taking your family to dinner at Dellantino's instead of Olive Garden.

These same people won't have big enough refrigerators for two bags of groceries and a carton of their imported almond milk.

They also order takeout for the evening and food boxes for the day. Image related is $16. It's rare that anyone prepares their own lunch and it's why vanity drink culture, with the same kiddified plastic drinking cups, is as big a hit in Europe as America.

i don't know what to tell you, i legitimately love everything about driving. most weekends i go for a 2-4 hour drive just for shits and giggles. it's specifically the feeling of controlling the car that i enjoy
even when traffic is shitty, i like timing the barest taps of gas to avoid hitting my brakes as much as possible
of course, i also only ever buy semi-sporty sedans made between 2010-2015 that get 30+mpg. that might have something to do with it. driving these fatass SUVs and trucks everyone buys for some fucking reason isn't nearly as fun

Where does this delusion come from of car = stuck in traffic? I bought a car specifically to reduce my commute. Possibly the biggest factor in determining your quality of life is the amount of free time that you get. My commute is now a little less than 15 minutes compared to 45 minutes using public transit. I now get an extra hour a day. That's huge.

That's actually the problem with public transit, though. The stars have to align where your start and end points need to be connected to transit stations, otherwise you have to take the bus, and if you're at the point where you have to take the bus your commute is pretty much guaranteed to be over 30 minutes.

>>749081769

Going to Europe and using public transportation there was a black pill. It was convenient and got me wherever I needed to go. Meanwhile my American brain convinced me to rent a car and it was awful, not because it was any different to driving in the US, but because it was so much easier to just use the buses and trains there.

>I thought satire was supposed to be funny.
The devs are Dutch cuckolds or something like that.
Only the British understand how satire should be done.
Take the British game "Constructor", where everyone is a son of a bitch, from the poor laborer to the skyscraper tycoon. Everyone is satirized, with their flaws exposed in a comical way.
That's how satire should be done. A satirist needs to be able to see the ridiculous in general, not just the ridiculousness of the things he doesn't like.
Because the creators of Car Park Capital are incapable of this kind of satire, the commentary comes across more like propaganda (probably from some vegan cyclist who likes to watch his wife go out with other men).

freight
america overuses it, long haul is inefficient, but even with developed ports and rail freight you still gotta distribute the goods, and we are yet to invent anything better than trucks and vans for that
and since cars don't really wear the roads out compared to loaded trucks, they are allowed to use the roads that are built for logistics first and foremost

>the game was telling them that what they were doing in the game was bad
... it never did.
At most it just implied the situation was shitty and non-negotiable.
It never told you what happened to the people you sent to the nice men with guns. Just that you get a kickback (which I remember being delayed the first time but it's entirely presented in game terms so you feel cheated, and it's not trying to reinforce that this is a super bad decision). You also get penalised if you do it incorrectly, so you pretty much have no choice in it either.

>>749108196
You'd be surprised how brainless people are then.
You shouldn't be surprised that the players who did play long enough to reach that point often forgot they were supposed to be doing that extra thing, because it's not built into the game mechanics described as a man in a second checkpoint double checking your work. The entire point of the game is that you can't keep up with the paperwork, so as soon as you don't get penalised you won't remember to use the paper.
95% of the players who know how the ending goes watched it on youtube and didn't play. Same as FNaF fans.

I saw a streamer play it like a sandbox.
He completed a 40 day scenario in 4 days. This took him 3 hours (I don't know if the simulation has a fast forward button). There didn't seem to be a failure state, just an inevitability that might only fall apart if your finances are terrible.
The simulation looked quite good but inconsequential. He had control over where the sims worked in their city and literally just put a bunch of desks down in a field with no walls or roof and then put car adverts over their heads, then laughed like it was funny.

If they change the difficulty from game reviewer mode to you can fail, there are so few things you can do it'd probably not be fun. Despite rocketing through the scenario the most complicated thing he had access to was setting up a two stage logistics puzzle.

Separation between residential and commercial happens naturally because its more convenient for everyone, you can also literally walk over one single road to go do shopping so its also completely walkable

I live a 5 minute drive from the store and I do my shopping with an e-bike. Doesn't even take more time. Bicycle trip is the same 5 minutes and I get to go on a nice little bike ride. And no, I don't have problems carrying my groceries.
In fact, it's more convenient than doing it by car because I can park my bike right next to the doors and I don't have to carry in my groceries because I just wheel the bike right into my living room. Don't even have to return a shopping cart. I just leave it at the front because I only have to carry my groceries out the front door to my bike.

Also your complaints about American public transit are because we refuse to fund public transit here.

>>
>>749118081
What actually happens naturally is you end up with commercial at the street level with residential or office space on top. So the commercial businesses get free customers and the people on top get convenient shops downstairs.
This is what happens in every city when you don't ban it like we do. Because... how did you put it... "it's more convenient for everyone".

>>749118845
And of course if we didn't ban it you'd end up with small businesses mixed into the suburban areas. So instead of driving out to a Starbucks you'd go for a nice little walk to your local coffee shop. Where you could chat up your neighbors and start forming an actual fucking community.
The coffee shop could even be someone's home as well. That's a totally normal thing that happens everywhere else.

high rise apartments are another symptom of car dependency sweetie
the cities get strangled by suburbs so the land inside the city becomes super valuable
so the only profitable way to do housing in the city is high rises

what's supposed to happen naturally is the city expands outwards with midrise housing as the population increases
but they're not allowed to do that in America because the area outside the city limits is zoned for suburbs only
why doesn't the city change the zoning laws then? because the suburban areas are technically a different city, and they have no jurisdiction over them

I consider America's dwindling ability to distance yourself from niggers to be a net positive over Europe. I'm trying to tell you that, in the game, you start with apartments
You acquire the apartments, you can destroy the land value via pollution down to a 100% discount to make it easier (I don't think land value ever goes up)
You build suburban homes, the ones without sidewalks, and their second tier or whatever in the game is literally called a McMansion but doesn't look any better which makes you go "Huh?" and I'm sure someone who doesn't know what a McMansion is would be confused
You then evict the tenants of your apartments and they move into suburbia, and I don't know if they now own the homes or are still tenants, the game is very weird with how you seemingly literally own everything just because you have money

There are no zoning laws, there are no NIMBYs, there are only people who get upset if you chop down trees

The entire point is, in the game, is "The city was perfect, everyone lived in their pods, then the cars came and everyone was forced to live in 1950s family homes and do everything with a car!", and everyone in the city is dependent on metros to get around (I don't think buses are in the game) which you can blow up, or simply walk

It's so frustratingly retarded it's like it was designed by someone who just hates cars and only read internet arguments on why they're bad and America's stupid
It even says cars have to be burned to be disposed of, which of course causes pollution, like what? That's not how scrap yards work and it's definitely not how they're depicting trains work. The only other environmentalist game I remember doing something as weird as that was one which made it so nuclear power plants cost a lot and literally destroyed everything nearby and then blew themselves up with their own fart gas

>The only other environmentalist game I remember doing something as weird as that was one which made it so nuclear power plants cost a lot and literally destroyed everything nearby and then blew themselves up with their own fart gas
Civ 6 is very annoying with this where there's no point in building nuclear power plants because they cause pollution for no discernible reason and are prone to nuclear meltdown within a decade. It's building dams KEK, solar, and wind also KEK. as the "environmentally friendly" solutions to keep the Earth happy. So fucking retarded.

The lifecycle problems with fossil fuels are far worse. Constantly building new drilling infrastructure for new sources of disposable one-time-use fuel. And the massive refining and fuel distribution infrastructure.

Compare that to solar panels which operate for decades before they need to be replaced. Then they get recycled and used to make new panels. They're just made of glass, aluminum, and silicon, all of which are cheap and can be recycled. Batteries are also easily recycled. We already mass recycle car batteries extremely efficiently.
Considering that solar panels are now the cheapest way to generate power, there's really no excuse to not go crazy with them.

A lot of the claims about lifecycle problems with renewables are out of date. Problems we've solved, but they never stopped crying about. Or it's just straight up bullshit invented by fossil fuel companies to stifle competition.

4-5 years for parts but not the whole, especially if Chinese.
Wind turbines have comparable lifespans to solar.
I'm not aware of what in a solar panel, especially in production, has to be disposed of, but wind turbines are not reusable or recyclable, at least not the wings and the towers.

I cannot remember if it's the factories behind parts for solar panels or batteries, or both, that you wouldn't want to live near and create a very pretty landscape, if you like pools of yellow, but I'm going to struggle to refind the photography that was a part of an award winning collection of human industry. Something like "The Holocene Era" but it's probably been buried by the weight of the internet and AI after a decade of being online, if not withdrawn in the passage of time.

What does having a big country have to do with personal vehicles which are almost exclusively used for short everyday trips?
If anything, Europeans would find cars more useful because everything is within a more reasonable driving distance. And they can drive into whole other countries.

I lived in an apartment block structured like this in Asia and it was honestly great.
All the basic stuff was literally just in the same complex and it had a park area in the center to hang out in as well as large private balconies for everyone and a track on the roof for exercise.

I parked my motorbike in the basement and would take that to go elsewhere outside of the city but could easily walk or use a bicycle for anywhere closer by.

>yeah it's cool to drive around once in a while but when you're trying to get to somewhere it's just another chore
I've honestly never had that issue, sure it can be annoying dealing with finding a parking spot or getting through traffic, but I've always found the open road to be relaxing.
I don't even really have to focus on the driving part that much, once you get out on it you just kinda go on auto-pilot, especially when it's a route you know.
That said, I've always preferred listening to music and getting lost in my thoughts over more active things, so I can see why it's not for everyone.

Canada is larger and more spread out and even our mass transit is far better (still worse than asia or europe)

Mass transit works best with multiple layers of options, trains, subway, light rail, buses, trams, bike lanes, and so on.

It overall raises the value and productivity of a city

Is it too much to ask for more commuter light rail? I'd rather not be forced to drive 20 minutes across town, then look for parking which I have to pay for any time I want to go out and do something somewhere else in town. It'd be easier if I could just walk to a train station, hop on a train, and then walk to my destination after I get off.

Pic related, Grand Prix Manager, shame it was full of overflow glitches, so the math to calculate speed based on engine power + weight + driver skill would get all over the place.

The Train vs Car debate is retarded because you can have both, and largely the reason we don't have rail systems in America is both because our country is like several times the size of countries that have them, but also because social cohesion is falling the fuck apart and large scale public services like that can't operate anymore.
In some cases some cities have had to shut down bus services because roving gangs of aids ridden homosexual hobos from California made their way across the country and it was legitimately a biological risk to continue to have them, and the means of forcing those shitholes to take their fags back just doesn't exist.

The US had a shit ton of railway in the past though. What we have now is basically the bones of what it used to be. There was just also a lot of mismanagement since there were a ton of railway companies that started up just for the government benefits they were handing out at the time to build them, and then they'd basically just go "well I'm laying down track in this direction. Let's hope there's something at the other end" and if they happened to cross another company's tracks, well that was a scheduling nightmare. Then of course some of these railways fell through, and cars rose so funding and attendance lowered, and we get to today.
To the best of my recollection anyway. I have seen some 2 hour train history videos because my friend is somewhat of a train and bus foamer but I don't necessarily remember a lot from them, mostly just funny anecdotes like the Crash at Crush

Sadly these towns are being targetted for direct brown injection precisely because they are usually functional white communities. I've been hearing so many stories of these small towns getting a sudden leadership shakeup from some shabbos they have never heard of in local government or community and then suddenly there are Indians arriving by the busload in Whitemanville, Tennesse (population 3500) for no good reason.
There's no economic opportunities or jobs there so it's even more blatant their entire purpose for being there is societal sabotage and displacement of whites.
