How's that game coming along, /v/?

If you have a great game idea you have literally no excuse now not to be making it become a reality. For $20-$100/month you could literally be making the game you've always wanted to without needing to know coding.
>>
>20-100$ month to get actual output you could use without coding experience
how true is this

I've been working on this little virtual pet game. It's missing a lot of systems that I have planned and all of the graphics and creatures are placeholders, but it's a proof of concept at this stage.

but at the same time it has left me depressed because i feel like i should've chosen another degree

I altered this game to have controllable units, camera pitch controls and tons of other miniscule shit I already forgot about in only 2 days with the 20 shekel a month plan for ChatGPT
You just need access to the best models and you can start doing this shit, obviously if you're doing super intensive stuff you'll hit a limit and will have to wait for the next day for your tokens to reset but besides that it's pretty good

It's literally the "ideas guy" machine

Go check out the vibe code generals on /g/
>Pay $100 for 5 hours of access to an ai coding tool per month
>$60 of your month is spent watching a loading bar get 50-80% completed before erroring out with no output
>$30 is spent watching it finish and spitting out code that doesnt work or doesnt do what you asked it to do
>$10 is money well spent
>The other 3 weeks and 5 days are spent having to actually write code if you want to progress on your project

As a poor fag, I'm fairly optimistic about current AI advancements. Since people had used Claude to reverse engineer the entire Adobe suite, I'm waiting for someone to make an open source version of UE3 or MT Framework that can pump out 300+ fps on an old machine. That'd be neat.

Not nearly as much as you might think, the mech game is longer and has a lot more work into it, but the fps is a matter of a week or two at most with a 20$ sub (maybe 2 subs, depending on how much you want to add to it).
The headlines you read about 'OMG 20000$ in tokens!!!' is complete bullshit because nobody uses api tokens unless they get state subsidies (like big companies with fuck you money), and the numbers probably come from them just reading how many tokens were used and doing the token -> price conversion without caring about contextuelized cache etc.

Oh anon, you have no idea. Like what you described does happen but no, trust me, these companies were encouraging lighting money on fire. My friend worked at one, wasn't using the AI stipend they get, which was literally a couple thousand dollars of api tokens and he got told by his manager basically "Yeah I know this is stupid and bullshit but management is starting to use the spending of this as the sole performance metric so even if it's on bullshit just make sure you use up at least 70-80 percent of it" From what I hear that's what drove it too. Idiot execs that don't know how to measure code/project progress (because management has always been bad at that, using lines of code is another retarded metric a lot of companies would use) and see this as a great way to objectively measure it because if people are using the AI, it must be getting work done! He literally used his to have his eye teach him about astronomy while he worked and got promotion for being one of the top spenders. This shit is more retarded than you can possibly imagine.
>>
>>749520821
This one is 100% AI, I just prompt and give it references.
You install obsidian, you write a GDD for your project, you add reference pictures and as much information as you want in there, and then you tell claude to build it.
Don't bother with anything very pretty, this is ugly on purpose because AI 3D is nowhere near good enough to do anything prettier.

And in this particular case, the inspirations I gave it was 32 bit console, specifically playstation 1 games like alien resurrection, and then I used gpt to design the mobs based on dead space and GTFO and then we moved on from there.

The secret is that someone has probably already designed the building blocks for what you want. Instead of telling Claude to build something from scratch, you first deliberately tell it to actively research adjacent codebases that already tackle problems you'll find. There's a lot of very useful shit out there under MIT and Apache 2.0 you can freely use.

RPGmaker is probably fine, but honestly at the level AI is at, it's probably just as easy for claude to just make an engine for you if all you want to do is a 2D jrpg style game, but it can probably also use RPGmaker (I just never tried, but if it can handle UE5, it can for sure handle RPGmaker)

Usually I get grok or GPT to make a 2D picture (spreadsheet style with different angles), how I get is depends: sometimes I just have a vague idea, sometimes I tell it 'I want it to look like that thing from that movie but with X and Y' and then I iterate with them, then once I get what I want, I shove it all in a reference folder and tell claude to model it, or maybe GPT, I can't remember if this specific one was started by gpt or claude (but they both worked on it), I didn't touch it once, I didn't open blender for it at any point, it/they made the animations, the textures, and the models.
Then of course it requires some tardwrangling and good prompting from you, it fucked up the animations a couple times before we got them right.

>>749523706
I don't use it personally, but there's this guy browsing around that shared the folder of his waifu and he made it all on their new model and it looks very fucking good, completely different angles and positions etc.

I'm trying to wrangle Claude to help me out with a Godot project. From what I understand, if it's a simple and universal problem Claude's got your back, but if it's a problem Claude doesn't encounter often, you're going to be wasting a massive amount of time getting AI to help you with it.

But if you're trying to troubleshoot something with Claude for hours, then you're basically learning nothing about the problem versus how much you would learn if you tried to solve it yourself. Which means that if you ever encounter a problem claude CAN'T solve, you now have to deal with both all those hours wasted trying to get AI to solve it, plus just learning how to actually solve it from scratch.

So I don't think AI is close to playing a major role in gamedev yet. At best it can handle 30% of the work.

>>
>>749524796
>if it's a problem Claude doesn't encounter often
Not exactly. It's more that there are problems it's not the best equipped to handle. You can absolutely have obscure problems it tackles flawlessly. You can also turn an unsolvable problem into a solvable one if you have it research solutions or frame it differently. Either that or you'll have to accomodate some alternative framework.

The actual problem here is that you need to lay down these things at the beginning of your project plan and map feasibility. If you're changing things drastically mid-project, you're going to have to refactor a lot of shit. You shouldn't just randomly tell it to do a huge job without a plan.

I didn't lay out ground rules at the start, but my current project is pretty fucking simple, it's just a top down 2D shoot-em up, but Claude is getting hard filtered by swapping UI scenes in Godot. Maybe it's because I'm on freecuck Sonnet instead of Opus but I wasted 2 hours trying to go back and forth with it.

When people say a game was vibe-coded, what way do they mean?

Like did they get AI to make the skeleton of the game, or do they just freeball it and ask AI for complex solutions once they get stuck?

I'm scared. The indie game market is 100% going to get flooded by AI in 2 years and it will be literally impossible to make money through games anymore

Yeah, everyone used NovelAI for AI story generation back then, and it still has that, but it's way better for image generation now since other platforms are heavily censored. It has the best cloud-based uncensored image gen afaik. For creating stories you're probably better off with SillyTavern and an API key.

Degrees only exist to prove you're not retarded. Most people don't end up working in their chosen field. You get the degree you can qualify for, not the one you think will get you a job.

It used to be that a high school diploma served this purpose but that was before No Child Left Behind. It's well-known that recruiters will just throw every application without a degree in the trash immediately as the first filter to get rid of the chaff.

I'd still go for a CS degree today, in fact I'd choose it deliberately because it's so easy to cheat.

you may require knowledge and experience with some basic software engineering concepts to steer it correctly because it likes small bespoke solutions. helps to know what makes things scalable, I occasionally end up in an actual debate with claude about implementations, sometimes im wrong and sometimes its wrong. but actually sitting down and grinding out syntax all day is a completely gone thing of the past now and research is trivialized

There's pros and cons, the pros of cowork is the UI and obviously the fact that he does it all in the cloud, meaning you can do whatever you want with your PC while it works.
But with code, in case you need to, say, optimize the game and see how it runs on your PC, cowork can't do that, cowork also can't just go into different folders easily (say you want to tell him 'take the pictures from that folder as reference'), you'll have to zip it and send it to cowork, etc etc.

Just try code and you'll quickly understand when to use one and when to use the other.

The prices won't last forever, there's just no way. If you aren't paying for the top models right now you are missing out, because they are gonna rug pull once the losers die off. Whichever company can outlast the money drain they currently have will eventually 100x the cost and the AI wonderland will end. The amount of work I get done with the $20 claude plan would probably have cost me $30k five years ago for real people

Haha, funny. Until you realize soon the rift between the ultra rich and the rest is going to be completely solidified where you will not be able to bridge it no matter what. A revolution is made impossible thanks to complete AI surveillance, and climbing up with work and luck is impossible because the rich will have better access to AI tools that at a whim can steal literally everything you did, not only steal it, they can improve on it. And if you are not wealthy already, you won't be able to afford said tools.

I was reading about the Middle Ages the other day, and out of curiosity tried to find out how difficult it would be for a peasant to gain his freedom and work his way up the ranks. Basically, it was almost impossible. Somehow, I feel like we all took the social mobility of our current era for granted, and the era when an average Joe can just grit his teeth for 5 years and make millions of dollars is coming to an end. I feel like I have been a retard for not being more ambitious & hard working, because by 2030 a lot of the opportunities we have now will just be gone

inference is cheap, openai/anthropic's expenses are in massive insane training runs and infrastructure buildout. Yeah things would have to get way more expensive if they want to recoup their investment but there's no way in hell they will, as long as open weight models are only a few months behind sota they can't do anything to force people to pay those prices. If GLM 6.7 is as good as Opus 5.5 and doesn't cost any more no one will be willing to pay 100x for GPT8 or whatever.
That's why they're all in on RSI, either they get so far ahead so fast that a few months lead is enough to capture most of the world economy or they're fucked.

Not him, but I've been learning Godot with heavy usage of Sonnet
90% of the time it just executes the goal perfectly. The other 10% is when you have something that needs a lot of precise human control (like pixel-art assets or fine-tuning movement physics to feel good). Though I have run into a problem where Sonnet has no fucking idea what's going on, and it's a really basic problem too. (Swapping between 2 Control nodes in a 2D Godot game in a smooth interpolation)

Threads like these give proof that AI developers are real developers, because it's full of a bunch of lazy fucks that have no excuses for their work to be done

Newsflash bozos, a WIP is only interesting because the end result wasn't a forgone conclusion. It's all about the question of "why isn't it done yet/why isn't it better." Before, the answer was "because it takes a long time and is heavily dependent on the dev's skillset to navigate obstacles." Now, the answer is "because the fag uploading it couldn't wait another day for it to actually look good instead of garbage, and refuses to spend enough tokens or sub to higher tiers," as the AI is otherwise guaranteed to do well if it's given meager amounts of time and money.

Basically, any WIP is just putting a spotlight on not your work but instead how you're impatient and poor, and to bring such a thing to the table is an insult. Finish your fucking work before you dare put it on my plate, faggots. Know your place as a devtroon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMg4ux-QIcQ

Been developing a JRPG roguelike extraction kind of game, the characters auto attack each other, you have the ability to parry, and use cooldowns, certain abilities can interrupt or slow the enemy based on you're build. You fight through a dungeon with various rooms that can be battles, elites, mini bosses, treasure, shrines, events, or special sparkling versions of enemies. You collect loot and have the option to extract with it. Every ascent you start from lvl 1 and level up and allocate skill points, you also get fruit which act like relics from slay the spire/ risk of rain, mostly passive effects that can be run changing. All using a DND system thats scaled up into the 30s because the idea is you are going to be surpassing gods in power level by the end of the run. You fight through a dungeon based on the tree of life, Fallen angels and they're ilk are the enemies. Game needs alot of work, have to fix animations, only 2 heros/classes in the game so far, first is the Paladin, then heres a picture of the Empress who is like a warlock essentially.

>>749518389
True but timelines vary wildly. If you spend a few weeks learning the basics, maybe pick a game engine, make a few practice games you can make some basic games just vibe coding between Claude and GPT, but it's going to be a nightmare especially if you don't know how to use ai.ple art tools. You basically will have a neat Frogger or Pokemon clone after 2 months of bullshit.

Also forget the 2p dollar subscription if you intend to vibe code, 100 dollars a month is barely usable.

It really depends on what you do with it. Either a lot of people in these threads haven't used it themselves, or they're being very disingenuous. You can easily run into usage limits while still being left with a broken mess. Your next step is either wait for the limit to reset, or buy credits. You really have no idea how much the credits are worth though unless you have personal experience with them, and it's at this point things get very expensive very fucking quickly and that's exactly what they want.

Throughout this process though you may have something working on enough of a level to record it, show it to others, and keep the hype train running.

Sorry but I just don't see a completely skilless or talentless person making ever a complete game with AI that's worth playing despite what Indian anons want me to believe.
Sure AI is a good productivity tool and if you know what you're doing you can have your work done faster but Kumar or Pratik sitting in his mud hut in Mumbai aren't gonna make anything that a 12 year old kid couldn't make 20 years ago in Flash.
Basically the people who use AI effectively would still be developing games even without it and all the worthless idea guys who have been doing nothing for years despite tons of tools and learning material being freely available to them aren't gonna make anything worthwhile.

I'm making visual novels, so there's almost no programming involved, so I don't use AI. But I was making a little RPG Maker game for fun, and all I have to do is ask ChatGPT how to do things in JavaScript, and it gives me the code, which lets me significantly expand the engine's capabilities.
However, this is just a superficial use of the tool.
The problem with leaving all the code in the hands of AI is that you'll become totally dependent on an expensive technology.
An Anon posted his expenses in another thread, and in three months (even though he spent only $60 on subscriptions), he consumed the equivalent of $5,000 (1 billion tokens spent). In other words, he's only able to work because Anthropic is absorbing a massive loss on his behalf.

This won't continue indefinitely, so we need to use LLMs sparingly rather than relying on them 100%.

The price is definitely going to go up. What companies are doing right now is absorbing massive losses to make corporations dependent on the technology.
The indiscriminate use of LLMs to do everything for you isn't feasible for an indie game with no budget, if the cost of the LLM is "real" (that is, if there isn't a mega-corporation absorbing billions in losses every week). As I said in another post, an Anon who was making mods spent 1 fucking billion tokens (800 mi in one month), which at "real" prices would have cost him $5k.
Of course, for someone making an indie game for commercial purposes, it'll still be less than what you'd spend on actual programmers and artists. But it won't be some magical technology you can use for free, unless you know what you're doing and use it only as a tool for specific tasks.

No, I'll show you a video.

Right now it's just minecraft though, not much to see There are still a few bugs, but it's really small stuff, and I just need to tell claude about them and it just fixes them. Did it this weekend. It was quite cool to watch claude work on it, it created a little scripting language for it to develop automated tests and stuff. It took a little debugging after, but I'm very happy with it.

Next I'll write a bunch of interfaces for LLMs to be able to play the game as well, and then I need to strip a bunch of stuff from the game I don't like (most of the modern stuff), and I can go from there. It's comfy.

I haven't looked at the code at all.

Overall I'd say this rewrite (including some reverse engineering work, of course, since the code isn't fully deobfuscated), accounts for maybe 25%-30% of the weekly usage.

Do TikTok videos showing off your game. Do your captions like "I cant believe they let you do this" and then give it a few weeks to build momentum, then release. Make sure your game is built with first impressions on the drooling masses in mind.

>AI can't create and it's extremely low quality
This is a common misconception because it only really changed in the past 2 months or so, but AI is really good at building quality software (read: doesn't crash, does what you want, is performant, etc).

I have 15 years experience as a dev, and Opus 5.5 is the first time where I'm actually thinking I may be out of a job in the next 6 months or so. It is just a lot better than me at coding, not only because it's faster, of course, but also because it has the ability to store the entire codebase in short term memory, so it simply doesn't make some of the mistakes humans are prone to.

I still think non-opus 5.5 models aren't great, and you definitely need to wrangle them, but opus 5.5 was simply a huge shift.

Also claude created a showcase script for me to show my friends (you guys). So cute.

Do you have to make money with every activity? Why are you on /v/?

lol and where is this software?

>the artist does not provide me with anything
The artist will provide you with art that has commercial value. AI-generated art has no value, because it's essentially "infinite" and can be created by anyone for free (at least as things stand today).
Of course, if the artist is bad or unknown, then the value of their art will be almost zero as well. So it's not as if every artist will significantly add value to what you do...
But even so, you'll have something of value that you can capitalize on in some way, even if it's just making it clear when you sell the game that "the art was carefully crafted by a passionate, self-taught artist," or some bullshit like that.
>>
Only corporations are allowed to make money. You only earn wages and spend it. If you do anything, it is only to be done in your own time for free.

>The artist will provide you with art that has commercial value. AI-generated art has no value
what the fuck are you saying, how is ai art infinite and pencil art not? I didn't know we were running out of pencils, well shit!
god you're so retarded, never mind, go live you life anon, draw your furry porn or whatever it is you enjoy, it's not my problem
just please stay out of my industry, k thanks bye

Well good thing we're in the wild west phase where you still have one powerful tool in your arsenal: Being early.

If any of you faggots ever want to hit it big with this shit, you'll never have a better time than right now. All you need a little extra marketing effort and that should be elementary to all of you because you already understand the faggotry that is modern social media. Anons in this thread say the market is flooded already but it's about to become fucking biblical within the next few months, maybe even weeks. They can either stick up their noses over games being ruined or take a relatively fantastic opportunity for a quick buck.

>Pay $100 for 5 hours of access to an ai coding tool per month
The $20 Claude time gets you a ton of time
>$60 of your month is spent watching a loading bar get 50-80% completed before erroring out with no output
What? There is no loading bar. You pass in a prompt, it thinks for a second, then passes back a response. Some harnesses have the initial response loop back a few times before its forwarded to you. They call this "thinking mode"
>$30 is spent watching it finish and spitting out code that doesnt work or doesnt do what you asked it to do
This one is actually true (except for the nonsensical dollar value). Sometimes they add random shit, so you have to review and trim it. Sometimes it doesn't work, so you have to force it to write unit tests

I’m used to making things that take years. I’m sure it will be fine. The more time it takes, the more meaningful it is. The fact that crafts take time and skill is what makes them valuable in the first place.

>AI-generated art has no value, because it's essentially "infinite" and can be created by anyone for free
It also can't be copyrighted.

A 90iq brownoid can proompt just as well as a 130iq White can, yet they want to convince you that being against AI is brown.

we need more of these threads
>>
>>749544715
Anon, what I said is pretty basic. If you can't understand why art created by someone has value, while "replicas" created instantly and for free by algorithms that are available to anyone have no value, then your view of the world and humanity is that of a child.
Honestly, even very abstract games end up being, in some way, an expression of the creator. With such a simplistic view of the world, what are you going to express to others? Or are you going to leave the "artist's personal expression" in the hands of "Claude" or "ChatGPT," too?

Great contribution, tardo. /v/ needs country flags so you know who to automatically ignore.

Opus has been around for a couple weeks now, and we've already seen extremely stable clones of photoshop written in a matter of days, if not hours.

In our company we have a single fully vibecoded project, and it consistently ranks the highest in terms of stability and resource usage, while simultaneously being one of the projects with the least dependencies.

The others are on my computer. Software which I'm developing for my own use.

Now, can you point to this mythical super stable human written software which has no bugs or flaws or crashes?

Can you?
>>
>>749545131
can you point to this super stable photoshop clone lmfao
>>
All the images/webms ITT look like absolute shit.

>b-b-but I can make them really fast with AI!
I don't think the people who play games care about how fast you were able to generate this if it sucks?

>In our company we have a single fully vibecoded project, and it consistently ranks the highest in terms of stability and resource usage, while simultaneously being one of the projects with the least dependencies.

yeah and once it's released someone will hastily make an AI clone of that and bye bye company lol
>>
>>749545246
still don't care lmao
>>
>>749545005
no you monkey, you use subjective and emotionally charged arguments: which I give zero fucks about, it's not my problem, you say one has value and the other doesn't have any: and I can prove you wrong by saying 'no', that's how deep your subjective opinion goes, that's the value of your subjectivity, I said 'no' and now it has no more power, see how this works?

you also still don't seem to understand that you're not entitled to my money, I chose where my money goes based on what I expect in return, this is how the adult world operates, I know that you got your panties in a twist about it right now and you think the world shouldn't work like this, but again: not my problem
I have zero reasons to go with an artist over AI, AI does it cheaper, faster, I can iterate on it as much as I personally want, and I don't have to deal with one of you mentally ill retards, I can say 'draw anime girl with big tits' and I'm not going to hear you retards going on about how we should have debra wilson in the game instead; shut the fuck up, not my problem, you'll have to live with it
>>
>>749545054
god that would be so fucking good

Someone needs to bankroll unlimited tokens and challenge Blow or Muratori to stream and make a game by only proompting agents
>>
>>749545331
*SI

also SI needs that artist to produce anything and it still returns only slop.

But, hey, it's your money i guess :)
>>
>>749545420
first smart thing you've said all day:
it's my money, get fucked retard
>>
>>749545404
yeah we could tell all those AI sloppers from india to eat shit lol
>>
>>749545254
What does that have to do with what I said? Also, it's not a service we sell, it's a part of something else. Also, why should I care? What do you want me to do, cry about it like you keep doing? I genuinely believe we're heading for a world where software will no longer be viable as an industry. That's a good thing.

>>749545463
says the ai retard lol
