Dark Souls 1 peaks at Ornstein and Smough and it dips completely after, never going back up.I won't say it's a bad game, because it isn't, but DaS1 is SO damn overrated. It's an 8.5/10 and a great (but very flawed and janky game), but fuck no it's not a masterpiece. It's the quintessential posercore/larper infiltrator game for people who want to try too hard to impress others with their "gamer" cred.

The overall level progression design was just a straight line, there was too much key jangling for Dark Souls 1 fans, it created the rollslop gameplay that infested Elden Ring, its aesthetic/visual identity was way too similar to Bloodborne, it didn't implement any of Dark Souls 2's new features (improved posture system, power stance, bonfire ascetic, NG+ having new enemies, etc), the PvP sucked and it had the least replay value.
