DQ 5 remastered on the PS2 is the greatest game ever made
It's fantastic and my preferred way to play. We should have got it in the west but at least it's translated

I've been trying to get into Dragon Quest recently, and I plan to play through every numbered game starting with the NES originals. I'm still on the first game, just got Erdrick's Armor. Is this the ideal way to get into the franchise or is there a more more ideal set of games from the series to use?

For convenience most people play the snes or gbc versions of the earlier entries but as a purist starting from scratch you won't notice the difference. DQ has very similar foundational systems throughout but they do tend to change the narrative conceit up heavily so the samey gameplay doesn't always feel samey. From 8 onward they homogenized a ton and they do feel samey.

>>749646296Even the art style isn't consistent, he started ragon quest back in the dr slump days and the whole series is basically a museum of toriyama's art style as it changes over time, from the pre dbz era, to dbz, to post dbz. It makes the dragon quest art books rad. Weird how the female protag for 3 only got art for the gbc version despite being a thing since the original nes version though.
