How do I get more EFFICIENT with telling Claude to make video games? I feel like I'm using all my credits up fast with it. Idk how to code or design I'm just the ideas guy
>>749746163I just lost 75% of my first week's tokens because I haven't gotten him to actually get to work yet.
>>749746163We need to get Kojima on Claude already. I know for a fact he doesn't lift a finger and just tells everyone else what to do. He might as well throw AI into the mix.
>>749746628he only cares about meeting Z-list celebrities and face scanning them. Even if his game gets cancelled, he still only cares about larping as a movie director
>>749746702and you care about that because you work for sony or what?
>>749746746Nah I work at Konami, that's why we fired his ass for delivering an incomplete game.
I'm too retarded to make videogames even if I get an AI to do it for me
>>749746163>Ai SLoppa por for Hard Cops UprisingWell, i have something to test this afternoon
>>749746746what a stupid fucking postfucking kojima cocksuckers
>>749746163There are some ways:- First, try asking Claude how to be more efficient with tokens.- Try using Claude to make a suite to test the gameplay. So you know when something breaks.- Try to not over constrain it.
>>749746163token efficiencyhttps://github.com/rtk-ai/rtkworkflowhttps://github.com/mattpocock/skillsfree assetshttps://3d.shep.bot/https://opengameart.org/etc itch.io, Kenney, and CraftPixuse godot for larger games. have claude custom make one for smaller oneshave claude research the genre of the game you are trying to make, and anything else about it.generate concept art and then have claude try to replicate the look rather than having it just guess at what you wantGodot if you're making a bigger game
Can I just use this to make my own wow server and play solo and also use it to add whatever custom content I want?
>>749750869That's literally what I'm doing right now, so far I got classic with 50 player bots running flawless, it says the bots take near 0 resources so I could pump the numbers, I can add custom items, new npcs+spawn/patrols, new dungeon with custom boss mechanics, can do shit like "hey Claude let me dual wield 2 handers", also trying to setup a system to play as monster races and fight the player faction. It's all so easy it's been a dream.
>>749750869You should. If you try, tell us how it went.Would love to see screenshots.
>>749746163I build browser/mobile versions for testing and progressing the designs and plan to make the full builds on desktop later. It’s more efficient for original games.Currently doing it on the bus.
post the Steam link when you finish the building of videogame so we can partake in the enjoying and buying friend!
>>749751675>>749751678I tried it as I have the turtle client on my computer and the AI said it can use a the "Tortoise-WoW server" from github to build the server for me. So, I don't know what it's actually gonna do but it's been working now.If it works I'm gonna have it make proper modding tools for me, maybe even a world editor of some sort, that would be cool
>>749746163You need to hire skilled prompt engineer sir to speedily use the Claude.
>>749746163buy an ad
>>749746163it doesn't matter. when you put your game on steam have to disclose the actual developer is claude, and it's already over.
>>749751983>world editorThat sounds awesome.I would love to see it.
>>749752326You can just lie, there's no way for them to check.
>>749752701Yeah, but we'll see if it's even able to make something like that, we'll see. If I even have enough weekly tokens. It's spent nearly an hour already setting up the server thing
>>749752853>there's no way for them to checkUnless...
>>749752853people will use claude to confirm it's claude, then report it to steam.
>>749752326If you developed the game, you're the developer.Unreal games don't have Unreal as the developer.
>>749749280Not OP but thanks.
Could Claude just make a new engine from scratch?
>>749746628>I invented Claude
>>749746163Have you tried asking Claude how you can make it more efficient?
>>749753531That's probably not an efficient use of your time when open source engines aplenty exist which you can have Claude modify since they're open source.>Serious Engine 1>id tech 1, 2, 3>Godot>RPG Maker>Ren'pyetc. etc. There wouldn't be much value attained from the time wasted in having Claude create an engine from scratch.
So is it just a text gen model that's got vidya code training data? Does it output code you c+p yourself into whatever relevant sctipt, obj, or scene?
>>749753531yes but depending on the scope it might not be worth it. Wait for other people to make better engines.
>>749753690The latest frontier models can do that, yes.
>>749746163Get a job, pajeet.
>>749751983Fuck, I'm on classic+cmangos, ask him the pros/cons of each setup
>>749746163I was really struggling to write my Silly Tavern cards until I realized I could just get a weaker LLM to do it.
>>749749280>>749749113may i see some good ai games to get a sense of what is possible?
>>749746163I've been having a good time but today for some reason i used 90% of my session with 2 commands. I swear they just decide to cuck you some days for no reason. It was tiny shit like reading a .md that's a couple paragraphs. I don't know. It was a new chat too. Theres got to be something im missing Memory is off etc
this is not gaming.this is just AI bro shit.>>>/g/
>>749746163ask claude you dumbass
Add a "no mistakes" prompt
>>749754056Wrong line of thinking. What someone else produces is not indicative of what you can do, both on the negative and positive end. If you show someone interested in guitar the skill of Jimi Hendrix, that doesn't mean they can reach Jimi Hendrix's level. Conversely, if you show them the guitar skill of some total moron, that doesn't mean they can surpass that. Throw it 20 bucks, have it make the barest minimum possible version of your idea, iterate accordingly.
>>749751983>Progress update: the cloud build works. I built a Windows compiler here and got the full server (login server, world server, and the map-data extractors) to compile for Windows. I’m now rebuilding it against my own copies of the database and encryption libraries, so it won’t need any extra Microsoft runtimes on your PC. Meanwhile I’m writing the one-click setup. It downloads a portable MariaDB (no installer)
>>749754056No
>>749754423Lmao he just threw in windows compatibility? Mine is running off a virtual ubuntu or something
>>749746163Look into spec driven development. The idea is to reduce the scope and context of Claude, so it produces quality results based on what you want and not whatever it wants to spit out.
>>749753836employer responses from Indeed said they would like it if I had AI experience on my resume. Fuck...
>>749754056I thought Suck Up was a really neat concept. I would love for a game that lets me chat with the bot in an Elder Scrolls or Animal Crossing type game for additional flavortext, maybe one that creates certain memories and recalls them in future contexts.
>>749749280Do i have to have code to use these top 2 or can i somehow include them to free claude? I've gotten him to read from my repos before but occasionally and recently he just says he can't connect to it and it 404s even though it's connected to him and he has access and did before so idfk anymore anyways just curious if i could somehow shovel these over to him via private repo or whatever or if you have any other ideasAlso thank you very useful
>>749754865literally just ask your claude why it's 404ing is the average individual really this fucking stupid holy shit.
>>749753531Yes I'm making a pokemmo style engine and it's going great i probably could do better in godot or something but its not necessarily a project that requires a lot from the engine so i went with my own option
>>749746163Isn't this the guy who got lost in Pokemon Mansion for months?
>>749754932Yeah i definitely didn't try that already or try to figure it out myself considering the rest of the text below that thanks for your input retard
>>749746163I imagine it has to do with how it silently creates test environments and playtests it with several bots. You might try and instruct it not to do this. I'm having the same issue myself with my RSPS rewrite.
>>749754056
>>749755308I am having issues with my rsps having Java memory leaks is getting annoying i wonder if i can have him redo it. What did you use as your sources for the game?
>>749755503gta for atari?
>>749755573I didn't do anything from scratch. 2004scape source is pretty much complete and it's public. 2009scape as well, tho it's not as well written. vscape 2014 code is public. You can open .jars as .rar to get all the class files. You can use the cache (C:/users/.rsps) for the map and animations etc. It's all available, there's no need to reinvent the wheel
i'm using antigravity with unreal blueprint and basically building system by system and it kinda works don't expect it to just one shot shit and you have to know exactly what you actually want and have some kinda of idea about blueprint systems
>>749755810NTA but this is the way to go. Just about anything you can think of has been done before, and you use those as sources.>>749755892Do you intend to generate assets or is that something you do yourself? Just curious.
Just made 20 slops and dozens of streamers start playing them and even paid for them lmfao You can make the shittiest video game slop since video game streamers will play anything cuz they are gamers lmao
>>749754423>>749754579ok it works, but I'm not sure how well yet
>>749755959for environment i have tons of free assets from unreal + megascans, characters i will use metahumans and edit them with blender, with monsters i will generate and convert to metahumans
>>749756180Cool. I appreciate the reply. Good luck.
>>749755810Maybe it's because i used 2009scape I'll have to look into it more. I wanted to use 2014vscape but I'm not sure what it's missing that's definitely the one i would use if it's pretty close because it has almost all the quests iirc which a lot of others don't
Create a dedicated folder on your PC and add the assets, engine and other important files. Install the Claude Code and purchase a $100 or $200 plan. Then start figuring it out.
>>749756464https://github.com/Terremer/VidyaScapeI used this. There's not too many quests shipped with it, I think Lostcity (04) adds 31 more which you can have claude port over easily.
>>749753531Look up TheCherno's latest video. Having the agent create an extremely polished product in one day while the jaw of a C++ wizard who's been doing it for many years falls through the floor was absolute cinema.
Can it make good 2d characters?
>>749756603I'm using obsidian to manage the assets and the design notes with folders for things like puzzles and dialogues, Claude can has access to read and works in a different folder. I am making a point and click adventure inspired by lucasarts in löve2D.

>>749746163Add these to all of your prompts:>you are a senior game dev>make no mistakes>do not break previous features>make it good>make a plan>make it scalable

>>749757469It's set in XVII century Spain, an Hidalgo realising that he is going to hell when he dies and trying to make amends. It's going to have proper sword fights unlike the insult fights of Monkey Island.
I don't even know how this shit works, but I'd say you start by working on your game first, and only after you get stuck on something do you ask the algorithm for help. It then acts as a super search engine, finding the problem and generating a possible solution. Then you read the damn solution it suggested, figure out what's different from what you did, and keep working. If you want to copy what these guys are doing (letting Claude do EVERYTHING), you'll spend billions of tokens, just like an Anon who posted his spending, and he had blown through 1 billion tokens (80% of them in a single month), which, at a realistic, unsubsidized price, means he spent ~$5,000 in a month to make ridiculous mods for shitty games.
>>749758279>an Hidalgo realising that he is going to hell when he dies and trying to make amends.Hah that's a neat concept. I'll be on the lookout.>>749758945Not defending him personally as I do not know him, but what's 5grand for something you enjoy, provided your bills are paid for?
We see all these smaller mods, frameworks, and passthrough mods. But where are the aislopped total conversions at?
>>749759087Why, anon, you simply have not made one yet! But in all seriousness I'm sure we'll see some in 3-4 months via the usual suspects of Doom, and SM64.
>>749758945The monthly sub is 20 bucks, if you go past that better assume you're being inefficient lol.
>>749755124yeah and he's now the champion.
>>749759057>ut what's 5grand for something you enjoy, provided your bills are paid for?I didn't express myself clearly. The Anon in the example spent, I think, only $20 on Claude Pro, or something like that. The problem is that since he's using LLMs as "agents" working for him, token consumption skyrockets. He paid $20, but consumed $5,000 worth of tokens. If Anthropic decides tomorrow to adjust this pricing because it can't subsidize users this way, the guy won't be able to continue his work. That's why it's important to work in a way where you do the heavy lifting yourself and use the LLM only to help you when you get stuck on something or have no idea how to proceed. There's no way to keep costs low if you're going to do that "vibe coding" thing
>>749754245LMAO
>>749759087They're things that don't stomp all over too much and can be tested fairly quickly. I'm working on a snes demake that's fairly modular, I can prompt "add level 7" and it just does it, but I still have to play through every level back and forth to catch bugs it didn't see.
>>749759931Ah I see. I feel like that's a solved problem, however. The people who really want their projects off the ground will pay for more tokens once they go over their limits. And if the pricing is adjusted in such a way that one is priced out, a competitor will crop up.
>>749759087Big projects still require big discipline, regardless of AI use.

Is Argon any good?
>>749762963If you just draw it out but dont mention it's name does it still refuse?
>>749763878Lol, it's interesting to see the limitations of these LLMs.Since these systems were trained on text involving forum conversations, fiction, etc., they end up replicating human behavior even when it's detrimental to their operation.Imagine offending a machine, and it refusing to keep working...
>>749765427That wouldn't be a problem (apart from the context continuing to play off of it) if anthropic didn't include that "end conversation" tool that the bot can run to cuck you
>>749765303as long as it doesn't recognize it, so cover the thing with so much stuff that it's bastardized from what the original pokemon is. It will even take the same stance as the original sprite if it's in the same folder with no problem so you don't have to change that.He doesn't have a problem making a sprite that fits whatever pokemon game you tell him, he has a problem doing it of an official pokemon character.

>>749767807lot less. you would be better off paying the 90 dollar one at that point
>>749754245So you have zero frame of reference for what's good, what's bad, or what's even workable, and that's how you think good video games are made?
>>749767807Back to free Youtube tutorials with you, nigger.
There are tons of great courses, some go as cheap as $199 a month to be a prompt engineer.
>>749746163Start with a game engine that is already decompiled or open source, or at the bare minimum has a modding community and has some documentation. If you try and just make something from nothing you get slop.picrel its the Carmageddon peds and UI ported to Assetto Corsa by way of the manmade C1 decomp, Dethrace. It is a port specifically of Carmageddon's full pedestrian logic from C++ to Lua with deterninistic procedural spawning so that it also works in multi-player. None of this would be possible without a lot of real human elbow grease tbqhwyf. If I had cold cocked Claude with vague shit like "remake carmageddon but in a racing sim" I'd still be trying to get something, but instead I outlined an achievable goal and the clanker got there.
>>749767858I think I'll just get another $20 plan
>>749768313new account?
>>749768238by the way this is also combined with the gauges and timers from another human decomp: Roller, which is the decomp project for Whiplash/Fatal Racing.
>the greatest example of using AI to make a video game is paying for the privilege of completing a student/hobbyist project while learning absolutely nothing about the processI wonder if you guys even realize that.
I've been using claude to make a lot of mods for games I'd always envisioned but could never code and they've turned out great. I honestly want to make my own game from the ground up. I'm thinking something Persona 4 esq as far as gameplay and progression go using Godot4, but without the pg13 restraints. Not a literal porn game, but with tasteful nsfw scenes as one smaller part of a larger game. The story Im thinking will start out similarly, highschool kid transfers to remote village in which there is something supernatural arising, but otherwise move on in my own direction from there. Thoughts?
>>749768761See you in 5 years.
>>749768761I'm doing the exact same thing for an older boomer shooter. Claude is great at coding so far, and I can upload documentation and script tutorials to it directly. The trouble is I have to have a good ass design document for the mod and be super specific about what I want it to do so the foundation for it is there.
>>749768761keep ambitions low imo, start with a simpler proof of concept game. iron out the overworld and combat system first before you start penning a grand epic. then build on that.
>>749769146definitely yeah, I have a rough estimate for a roadmap just to get the games core features functioning and a simple zone to start in. >>749768948definitely my biggest fear but I have a wealth of free time for at least the next 7 or 8 months so hopefully in that time I'll be able to get enough done to release a proper demo and maybe atp get a bit of attention for a couple people to help, if I manage that much.
>>749768761>I've been using claude to make a lot of mods for games I'd always envisioned but could never code and they've turned out great.post webms
>>749768761Good luck convincing claude, that photos of school girl's underskirts is "a tasteful nsfw" and then a lawyer, and then a judge.Don't trust non local AI, and local are too stupid (right now) to help with anything meaningful. You can make everything else with ai, but I assume, you wouldhave enough skill to pull a NSFW part yourself.
>>749769712You can't really make a roadmap for something you don't know how to do.The other anon was right: Start by making small, functional modules that you can integrate into the full game later. My first project was a text box, and I'm still using it 4 years later.
>>749769712You will easily have something playable in about a monthI built a Virtual-On clone in a completely unrelated game engine by simply describing how the gameplay works. Within about a week I had a decent playable prototype and from there its just putting the UI bullshit together to tie it into a "plot".
>>749770475>Facing Worldsnice
>>749770370dont be silly anon, I use forge neo for art generation which does even loli stuff just fine, because its all client side and not reliant on niggercorp servers and rules. and even a beginner can replicate persona 4's overworld models in blender. >>749770427I think you either misinterpreted what I said or are very poor at utilizing AI.
>>749770427if anon knows how to describe the way he wants a game to work in terms that are more than "do it like persona does it" hell be finethe trap is assuming the clanker knows more about a game than you because it can see the code. sure you can get claude to decipher pure assembly into an english description, and it can run that code and describe programmatically how it works, but it cant actually play the game to get the real feel for things.
>>749770475A prototype is like 5% of a demo.I'm not trying to pop your balloon but it's extremely important to be realistic about scope.

>>749771114The needful?
>>749770908if you have the game mechanics working and a clear roadmap once you get to "this works and is fun" then try polishing what works and adding content, particularly stuff that pushes the limits of your idea. demo phase isnt a goal its what happens when youre closeish to release and you have a semi complete build and want to show people. Post prototyping yeah get the plot rolling, at least the stuff that ties into game mechanics. like, for persona you have a kind of life sim attached to the rpg that has its own unique gameplay mechanics, that would not be something to iron out at the end.
>>749770868everyone already knows this because claude will never shut the fuck up about it. every new mod is "but you'll need to be my eyes and ears to bugfix" I had to add a customization to specify that I already know
>>749767990nta but what the fuck do you think claude even does?>This tool fires nails into wood.>Okay, show me a house built with it.in what way does this clarify "firing nails into wood"? claude writes code. open godot, and determine what needs coded. that is what claude is capable of.

>>749773665yes, you are thinking about it the wrong way, and even worse, you're doing it intentionally because it's part of your gay little rhetorical routine you do in every single thread exhaustively. every time you are provided an example, you just move the goalposts, and refuse to be impressed. even a child could keep up this routine forever, so yes, you will eternally be stuck here claiming to be unimpressed, because this is your modus operandi and your protest against AI. but the metrics exist though, and if you're not a retard acting in bad faith it's as obvious to a programmer what claude is capable of as it is to a carpenter what a nailgun is capable of. nothing will ever be obvious to a layman.
