This has gone too far. Now, more than ever, I genuinely believe games shouldn't have Difficulty settings, otherwise everyone is getting a different experience, and that just kills any serious gameplay discussions.
t. refused to use the mimic tear for some retarded reason
I always dislike difficulty settings. I want the enemy to have the best behavior, and the most fitting amount of health and damage-output, as decided by the designer. And it keeps getting worse, but I guess there's no serious intention to spoil anymore, anyway.
So anyways i beat contra with the 30 lives code :)
>>749751883Ok that is kinda silly, it's not even QoL changes, that's not even difficulty changes, just straight up making the intended experience obsolete. Because even as someone who does very much enjoy challenge, what reason would anyone have to intentionally have the game set you back further back after death or have any less potions than the default, that doesn't even feel like intentionally chasing the challenge, just feels like shooting yourself on the foot on purpose.
>>749751883nigga those are just cheatsjust not labeled that way
>>749751883Guess they saw the absolute shitshow that came from Silksong's difficulty and got scared and decided to add cop-out options for the whiners, but really see no point in either playing on default settings as a normal person or with everything fully enabled as a whiner, everything in-between or in the other direction just seems weird.
>>749751883I actually love settings like this, on a new game plus mode. To have these be unlocked right from the start is just stupid. It's like the game is telling you "don't take it seriously, just rush through it"
>>749752908They SHOULD be labeled cheats and have a neat little cheat menu, those felt good to use.
>>749752975nta but I agree. Just call them what they are and id have no issue
>>749752936Because modern players only want to rush games, they don't enjoy the act of playing games on itself, if they could have a single button that takes them to the end credits and unlocks all achievements, they'd take it. They just want the bragging rights and be part of the conversation without the actual games, because they think gaming is the only hobby out there.
>>749751883The best is when a game has no difficulty options and is simply a curated experience. Think: Dark Souls. This gives everyone the same frame of reference for talking about the game.Second best is having difficulty options that are simple and straight forward. Normal and Hard. Easy, Normal, Hard. These things are mostly fine because I think most discussion defaults to the game being on hard mode and it is usually what people recommendThird best is the above but with a bunch of difficulty options including some kind of dumb gimmick mode. Story, Easy, Normal, Hard, Extreme, Iron-Man-Rape-Me-Now Mode. These are almost never balanced and there is never a consensus on what people pick.Last is this bullshit. Customizable difficulty nonsense. This is the devs throwing their hands up in the air, with their middle fingers extended, and giving up on balancing their own game or curating the experience for the customer. They can't be fucked to make something challenging or reasonable. They don't care. They don't test every encounter with every permutation of difficulty. They just tell you to do the work. It is the equivalent of replacing everything with "do it yourself" counters and then charging you the same price even though you're effectively doing QA work for them.
>>749751883>literally a toggle you have to manually enable>with a warning message put in place by the developers explicitly cautioning you against using them as it may "negatively impact the gaming experience">still bitch and complain>>749753210From what we can clearly see in the image, there is an intended curated experience that can then be modified at the expense of the "gaming experience", which is actually the first option you mentioned. If you want the intended experience, you can have it. If you want to be a giant whining pussy, you can complain about it on 4chan.
>>749753210But you don't get it, some people SEETHE at the idea thar not everything is specially catered to them, they hate the idea that some things just don't work for them but do for other people, they can't stand seeing other people having a good time when they can't, but instead of adapting or moving on, they decide they thing must be adapted to them and worsened for everyone else, and when they get the worse product, they won't enjoy it, because it's now worse, and just then they'll realize they didn't care that much and leave it.
>>749751883>enable custom mode>have to actually enable a whole ass specific setting to be able to fuck with all this stuff while the game is literally telling you it fucks with balanceJim boy you gotta think before you drink outta the battery acid fountain
>>749753470Yeah, leaving everything by default is still the best experience I'm guessing. Just feels weird because in what world would anyone go "yeah I want the enemies to deal more damage or I want to get less experience" when given the option to change it.
>>749751883This shit should be unlocked after finishing the game or after you died more than ten times as a shame badge
>>749751883i will never understand the mental illness behind kvetching about options
>>749753915>after you died more than ten timesNow that would be funny, I remember getting shame by DMC unlocking easy mode like that, such an endearing "fuck you game" moment. Maybe have be 10 deaths withing a timeframe for people who'd truly need it because just being able to disabled death is too much and would be also cool that someone good enough would never even know they were there.
>>749753964Because even if you don't use them, it'll stick at the back of your head that you could be using them and makes any challenge you overcome just feel arbitrary, self-imposed and pointless
>>749754338>it'll stick at the back of your head that you could be using them and makes any challenge you overcome just feel arbitrary, self-imposed and pointlessliterally mental illness
>>749754338>because it's there! I can't help myself!That's a you problem, not the game's problem.
Need another game with Shanoa

>>749752365ThisI think the first time I saw this shit was in Bravely Default, that made me drop the game.
>>749756673>I think the first time I saw this shit was in Bravely DefaultI actually meant including "easy normal hard".
>>749755767If I licked Shanoa's back, would the sigil taste funny?
>>749751883Instant no buy for any game in the future including this one with this stupid shit. If they want a debug menu it should be as a final challenge after you clear the game as a god mode bonus. This baseline sandbox shit needs to be rejected when it shows up. And yes this was the same reason I didn't buy Mina.
