>>749794676Looks fine to me.
I'm glad to have BIO-SUBMARINER DX finally released, even got a few people to stream it.Seeing the reactions to Sailor Jerry never gets old.I had one dude play it for over 6 hours trying to get all the achievements (he got half)Maybe I'll get back around to Mouseman after I fix up Project Sugarplum to the minimally viable state. A lot on my plate but I'm having fun.
>>749795007Link the game, link the streams
>>749795007>MousemanI tried that a while ago, is destroying your clothes a softlock? Everyone refuses to talk to naked bros
A bit disappointed that sales aren't too hot. No site or content creator responded to us so we're a bit stuck with outreach. We're getting WLs still, so at least our ads are doing *something*, but I'm guessing the price is a bit of a stickler for people. We'll have to see what the next sale does.>>749795007Oh yeah, congrats on the launch! I need to buy it still, I liked the original.
>>749795130https://store.steampowered.com/app/5113860/BIOSUBMARINER_DX/>>749795247Yeah, though you should be able to buy more if you reached Rathattan. If you somehow destroy your coat and shoes in Litterbonx, you could buy the hat from the pawn shop. If you somehow destroy the hat too, yeah you may softlock lol
>>749795378Congrats to you as well! We were launch day buddies lmao
>>749795459Yeah we were, which wasn't even planned cause we had to do a last minute delay cause of Valve taking so damn long to approve the build... Funny coincidence
>>749795504Steam has taught me that everything needs to be done 20 months in advance or they hate you and you should die
>>749795378Honestly your game suffered from a lack of pre-release marketing which seems to be a problem with a lot of local devs. Too many people here rely on word of mouth marketing. Ever heard of the phrase "spend money to get money"? It's a scary and uncomfortable idea but there needs to be a budget set aside for generating hype beforehand, not trying to retroactively do it.Did you send your trailer to IGN? Did you enter into next fest? These things aren't guaranteed to make you the next Fortnite but it's two free options. Additionally (and this is the secret method) you need to have a booth at local conventions. Work with your local scene and support each other. Rent out a bar for a night and invite people to play the games and have a drink.A game is made or broken by the amount of lead up it has. And in your case, that's where you faltered (though to no fault of your own marketing sucks ass). Can it be salvaged? Yes. But it's not going to be easy and it's not going to be cheap but it WILL be worth it.
>>749795703>>Did you send your trailer to IGN? Did you enter into next festYeah, we did. We tried a bunch of different things that didn't work out.
>>749792495Wagie Run progress on hold because i need to work on my univ submission first. Level 3 almost done tho>>749795007Congrats man!
>>749795387oh and I guess you could softlock in the beginning by totally destroying your clothes while they're on the rack, but that's such an early thing I think a reset doesn't hurt there
>>749795827Oh shit forgot to erase my /biz/ namefag. Soery
>>749795703>Ever heard of the phrase "spend money to get money"?nta but it's hard to spend money to make money when you have no money to begin withand I refuse to take out credit or spend money I don't already have
>>749795937Then what you need to do is sell to a publisher. That's the method no one wants to talk about. Cause it's risky. But there's plenty of local publishers that can be reached out to. Local /v/ and /agdg/ publishers. Do some digging. Reach out. You don't need funds. You need a bigger audience.
>>749796225the big nasty p word...I suck ass at marketing so I really should consider it

>>749792495I have a questions to the Goblin dev (and everyone else, btw):your game is playable with gamepad, how did you decided what button do what?(In silksong basic attack is on X, in Elden ring is on RB, etc.)Do you think it's possible to make a similar game without lock on mechanic?
>>749798003>how did you decided what button do whatThat heavily depends on the genre and moveset. For the last game we worked on we had a slightly unconventional moveset, so we experimented a bit with what felt most comfortable. I think the best way to handle it is to test a somewhat challenging level while doing all the moves you're expected to be able to do at once for some time. If you don't get cramps, then that's a good start. You'd think that's common sense, but I've played some games that made me do some awkward or annoying shit on controller.
>>749797383Been going over it bit by bit as time goes on, but realistically, we will have to see.
>>749796225>Local /v/ and /agdg/ publishers. Do some digging. Reach out. You're kidding, right? Nobody in nu-/agdg/ even makes games anymore, they just argue about AI. I'll have to see a local publisher to believe they exist.

>>749801139I went through each game released in the last 2 years that's been listed on the agdg vercel site and there were exactly two publishers that I encountered more than once. There's nothing about them that could indicate any sort of /agdg/ adjacency (understandable enough, 4chan is a pariah website) but one even forces you to tick a box agreeing that you support LGBTQIABRAAAP values if you want to pitch your game. I'm not calling you a liar, but this isn't very convincing.

Outside of racing shenanigans, the moat outside of Fortress Fygoon now has a computer-controlled Kasholat swimming around the water, gulping up everything (Fygoon included) like a Lurker Shark. Beware of the voracious fish, as it can easily out swim its prey.>>749798003>your game is playable with gamepad, how did you decided what button do what? That’s easy: I let Rare do the heavy lifting and scavenged it like a vulture. In my case, I originally used a Dinosaur Planet-like control style before realizing that was stupid and switching to the style used in Conker: Live and Reloaded but modified to allow weapon swapping with the bumpers.
>>749792495Mostly bug fixes and mechanical stuff. Still figuring out how I want the combat to play out.

>>749792495I have accomplished relatively little in the last week, thought I've had worse. My steam page finally went live and my expectations were low, but the numbers are still beyond underwhelming. As for the game itself, I added these smoke and explosion effects, a spawn hangar ability for enemy ships (gonna set up a carrier bossfight, eventually) and I'm working on a significantly altered version that the player will use. Still hoping to release a Steam-worthy demo by December, but I'll really have to work faster than this.

I've been thinking whether lockpicks as a gameplay mechanic and a resource for the player to use are even necessary if I add a magic power to my magic skill tree that allows you to unlock doors using magic. This ability will require you to level up your skill points quite a bit however, but still. What do you guys think? Should I keep the lockpicks or not?
>>749814191Rooky mistake
>>749818580Do those have their own separate minigame? If so, just make the magic one really cheap to learn, so it is more like a choice between witch one the player prefers.
>>749818939I'm planning to make them work like in Deus Ex 1, as a quasi-weapon. I find lockpicking and hacking minigames a waste of time and detracting from the main "point" of the interaction. It's why I'm asking. Both are effectively just resource checks, just of different resources. I just wanna know what other people (especially if anyone is just a gamer here) think on this.
>>749817103Unity does more shit and has a fuckton more learning material.
>>749819410And most of it is dated or shit.

>>749819273In that case you are just spending one ressource to get access to another. You spent some form of learning point to be able to access mana or some shit. Are lockpicks abundandt? If not, giving access to instead spend some other ressource might be usefull enough, based on balancing. If Lockpicks are abundant, just can it. Seems like it would require more work than it is worth.
I want to make a game that streamers and vtubers will play...
>>749818580>Should I keep the lockpicks or not?Depend. Is magic use mandatory? 'cause if not I would appreciate a way to open shit with lockpick. And a way for violent entry also, ffs. All games understand the "stealth is optional for this mission mean rocket launcher is okay" trope, but they still won't let me just fucking ass-rape the locked wooden door itself with it.Actually scratch the mandatory magic question: even as a magefag I would prefer to have a non-magic option, especially if your game has anti-magic areas, enemies that detect magic use, or just general "mana doesn't grow on tree" level of spell economy.
>>749817103unity looks to have a lot more stuff available that Just Works (tm). Godot feels a bit easier for a retard like me though.
I've got my music system good enough to where I consider it acceptable to ship with the demo I'm hoping to release within the month. Obviously I don't have any musical talent but this example is just a test anyways and random pentatonic notes never sound that wrong. Regular sound effects didn't make sense thematically but audio feedback is obviously important so having the music respond to player action is a nice way to solve both of those problems, plus it feels fun to play around with. Writing a mini domain specific language for this was a real treat, I'll probably fabricate an excuse to write a few in every future project I do.Never tried posting content with embedded sound so I'll probably mess it up; here's the catbox link to the video with audio: files.catbox.moe/6mrkxw.mp4I really need to fix my video encoding, the color space is always fucked up.
>>749821151Here's what some of the script for that looks like. I kept trying to make a decent music system but kept failing until I discovered Tidal, which I used as a base to build off of - I hacked in an approximation of their mini notation. Really, it's pretty much just a shitty re-implementation of Tidal but with a bunch of values the game can set to change the output. It's a bit of an abomination but whatever, good enough.

>>749795703Very projection-heavy post and ignorant of the subject matter. It doesn't matter how much you spend. The real problem with indies is that they're not focus tested. You're releasing a have no one asked for. So you're in lady luck's hands. Make a dozen posts on Reddit in subs you think your players could be. If no one replies your material is not worth spreading to begin with, free or paid. Also a booth is to see player reactions and retention, not marketing.
I need to work on adding some new enemies and improving the level design along with refining some mechanics for the next Demo Day.

> Game has 6k wishlists going into steam nextfest this week. It's not much, but it's something. Here's hoping it catches a wave from nextfest. It feels like I'm getting out of a burning building at the last minute with how much of a bloated shitshow the indie game scene is right now. Every year it's harder to stand out.

>finish modelling and rigging>motivation plummets instantly when it's animating timebruh
>>749849796couldn't be me, that's the most fun part!
I fixed so many bugs and issues...too many updates honestly. I got the running game from 20gb to 5gb, I overhauled the potion quickslot functionality, I removed all but 1 event tick that fires on condition, I fixed all focus bugs with widgets, I fixed the equipment button icons so they all show a default slot, making a potion belt to separate the potions from the rest of the equipment, removing quest items from the normal grid pool, fixed quest widget and detail/entry bugs, fixed the camera. Next up is animations.
>>749850440might be related to my workflow. I have to make many animations per characters when I have no idea of what I want for most of them. When modelling, rigging and weight paint is really straight forward
>>749850742Make fun combat first>>749850792Yeah, you need to know what's the purpose of an entity and how you want it to move and be equipped to design a moveset.
every time i add a feature there's another i want to add. how do i stop?
>>749851158Yes, that is the next part, the animations which includes the combat overhaul.
>>749851187You gotta stop yourself. Feature creep kills games.
History game faggots, where do you get your references from is there a good database or collection anywhere?
>>749851268I get mine from the history channel.
>>749851268What do you mean by references? Do you mean like inspirations or like actual illustrations / artifacts?
>>749795378looks amateurishwho's your target audience? gameplay seems like for a playstation 1 game
>>749831537Yeah
>>749851508Anything that can give me an insight of historic Iran. Buildings, clothes, food, pubs, clubs, art and so on. I haven't found good stuff on that yet.
>>749851562>gameplay seems like for a playstation 1 gameWe've had a few people tell us it's reminiscent of a PS2 or PSP game, so I guess people who are fond of games from that era.
>>749796916>Don't clip the fin on the windmill>At 0:04 or 0:05 pan the camera up at the white building first, before showing the lava pit.>Ending is too far out. Left is brown, right is blue. Is this all the background you can offer?
>>749852021>>749796916>Is this all the background you can offer?Biggest issue imo is that the skybox show the level as being in the middle of the ocean but there is no actual water "ground": the pillard just stretch to the abyss.Need a water-textured quad somewhere below whatever the lowest gameplay-reachable point is.
>>749841525Why are you guys so sure of this?
>>749851842Have you tried JSTOR or Sci-hub? There's millions of research articles in either libraries and JSTOR has a pretty good filter system, I'm sure you could find something.Internet archive also has a free copy of the Cambridge History of Modern Iran, which if it's anything like their other published works, will be excellently written.
>>749792549If Claude is so good and bg3 l oh so popular, how come no one made a good story campaign?
>>749795378Why is everyone always so mean when somebody releases a gameIm not interested in it but I think it looks fine, pain point is probably the price And I assume you didnt advertise much because 60 follows on steam community isnt much
>>749853874People being mean isn't so bad, I got a thick skin.>I assume you didnt advertise muchWe did, funnily enough, it's just that nothing worked. I tried shilling our trailers in a few places and they didn't get much attention, our Next Fest demo didn't get much attention, I tried reaching out to a bunch of gaming sites and content creators and none of them responded. Big shrug as what went wrong on my end, I'm all ears, but it's not for lack of trying on my end.For what it's worth I think 20 dollars would've been a good price if any of my marketing plans actually worked, but they didn't. We have some active ad campaigns right now and they have decent click-through rates, so we must have done *something* right, but it seems the clicks are only converting to wishlists as sales are still pretty underwhelming right now. At least that gives me some hard data to convince the creator to lower the price in the future, though. Maybe once we release the console port.
>>749854410Literally did it wrong. Ask gen 6 to evaluate
>>749851562>>749852007>>749795378The blonde haired boy is cute. Have him end up naked in front of the girl.
>>749854513Doubt the creator would go for that, but he has an intense rivalry with the villain if that's more your thing.>>749854463Dunno how much that would help. I heard short form content is the new meta, but constantly putting out small videos sounds like a pain in the ass.
This week, I used my free time to study the cat leg anatomy. Now the beans are very accurate. Also I changed the butt topology to imporve the jiggle. Also I updated the combat a bit - now enemies attack in turns and position around Fluffa instead of attacking all at once. I had this issue when playing the test level and fighting two bnots at once - it was quite glaring and unfun.
>>749852813cause most of those youtubers are failed devs who haven't accomplished much of anything and mostly just wanna shill you their game in what they think is a "subtle" way. in this case "those who can't, teach" is very real>>749856032oh that looks nice
My idea that I posted ONE webm of, was stolen by a team of professional fake indie devs with a publisher.
>>749851842>historic IranThey had a lot of trading with their neighbors. For better or worse.
>>749856205What is your idea anon?
>>749856205>>749856302A 2D pixel platformer about depression.

>>749856382i made one of those, then aggy got really mad at me for some reason :(
>>749856205My plan now is to start marketing my next game only when it is nearly done, but sitting on that for as long as possible to gather wishlists. However I could release it in a flash if necessary.

>>749856382Dreams of Joy Departed was a fun game. Too bad the dev stopped working on it
>>749854615It is meta and it isn't, ask Gen6 if int too low
>>749856032>Also I changed the butt topology to imporve the jiggleWhat engine are you using, and is the jiggle done in said engine?
>>749853378Cheers! Completely forgot about JSTOR, and I haven't heard about the others. I'll give it a look later today. >>749856272I'm definitely going to think about traders from across the region, as it had the silk road going through.
>>749857387I use Blender for modelling and Unity for the game. Jiggles are done in-engine using this libraryhttps://github.com/naelstrof/JigglePhysics/tree/main/Packages/com.gator-dragon-games.jigglephysics>>749856059Needs some tweaks but indeed! It's kind of how group combat works in Bat: Ham Ass, but simplified
>>749856205The new meta is to not reveal your game until it's almost done, and then go all in with the marketing for a month or so. Small games are probably not worth going for, as that is going to get cloned over a weekend by some SEA tard. Having so little gameplay and game size that it can be copied so quickly is a story itself.
>>749858674that's the most retarted meta there is. You still need like a year or two of marketing in order to get enough wishlists. You should market early, it's just that don't make basic games that can be replicated within few hours of claude work

i know ill get called a faggot/zoomer/nigger for this, but is there any feasible way of getting my game published on Steam if I don't have I.D.?It's ready to go, but getting I.D. just isn't an option right now because of certain full-time obligations that I have...
>>749862781I actually already checked out rigify and took some online rigify instructor tutorialsbut for whatever reason I prefer doing them from scratchits more satisfying and it comes in handy when to make mare sophisticated rigs later onI might revisit rigify again at some point
