Jokes aside, that sort of thing, a sequel using discarded concepts from the original, is hardly new. Even HL2 used a lot of hl1 beta stuff, like Mossman, and funnily enough some stuff was unfortunate enough to get cut multiple times, like the Borealis being made from the Hyperborea and Kraken Base, which IIRC were made from an underwater research area cut from HL1.

I like the concept of "what if X and Zero lost in X1?" Its not perfect, but I like that X still holds out hope all through the game despite there being next to no hope at all. That depends on how you instance bullets, in Godot bullets should be coded to move right by default, that's to ensure they rotate correctly, you could make a pretty basic pattern by instancing those bullets on a marker each few tenths of a second, and moving that marker up or down, every time you instance a bullet, there's actually tutorials out there for making generic bullet patterns on any engine by using math.
This Jap art has also been done relatively recently, although it might be a bit contentious to some.
