Slop-comps are the same or worse, yes. But seeing Sonic Unleashed avoid RPCS3's performance and Xenia's issues with MSAAX8 and insane frame rates is neat. Plus the Recomp Team that first popularized these with Zelda64Recomp made their recomps the best possible way to play and mod the game.
>>
>>749897882
Idk why you would expect otherwise. You need to have a an accurate model for the platform to have a recomp, which is what emulators provide. Absolute best case it's slightly less good than the original emulator.
>>
>>749897882
It's just marketing
>>
>>749897882
The Pre-AI ones were. Unleashed is probably the best example, but the N64 ones are better than emulation too
>>
If Dario or Wiseguy are involved even slightly - it's a good recomp actually worth paying attention to

If it's a literal who (likely solo dev instead of a team) that appeared out of nowhere with no connections to any prior projects - it's ai shit that won't be maintained because the dev doesn't know how, you're better off just having Claude make your own recomp of the same game to your specific tastes
>>
>>749898219

>>
>>749897882

What does that mean? Looking at comparisons of the actual performance? Or baseless opinions?
>>
>>749897882
Recomp offers better performance than emulators can provide. For heavy games like those released on PS4 and XB1, the recomps hit 120fps while emulation doesn't
>>
Recomp and emulation do not have the same end goal.

Recomp allows for infinite innovation. Open source, multiplayer, any framerate, any platform or device, mods, etc. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the difference, because while it seems like a semantics argument, the possibilities are incredible
>>
>>749900229
Pretty much all Claude recomps use frame interpolation, they don't actually hit those framerates. Doing so would break a lot of things depending on whether the game's logic is tied to framerate, which it usually is for games developed primarily for consoles.
>>
>>749897882
That's because most of them are just emulation. The only difference usually is instead of dynamically recompiling blocks of instructions during runtime they just do it ahead of time, or if it's based off an HLE, recompiling the system libraries ahead of time instead of during runtime. The whole GPU/graphics side of things are almost always just straight up ripped from an emulator and not doing anything different/extra.
>>
>>749900303
This is definitely not the case. Most of the recomps I've looked at have a legitimate variable timestep. That's one of the big advantages of recomps, you can unlock the framerate for real, and provided it was properly coded, the game runs at whatever framerate instead of the hobbled 30fps it was originally confined to

Legitimate frame unlock mechanism https://github.com/OverkillLabs3/driveclub-recomp/blob/main/launcher/driveclub_launcher.cpp#L1066

Frame gen disabled: https://github.com/OverkillLabs3/driveclub-recomp/blob/main/launcher/driveclub_launcher.cpp#L302

Real variable timestep: https://github.com/OverkillLabs3/driveclub-recomp/blob/main/src/runtime_kernel.c#L44
>>
>>749900701
>SetEnvironmentVariableW(L"BB_FPS_LIMIT", unlocked ? L"1000" : delta ? L"60" : nullptr);
this is frame interpolation locking the internal framerate to 60 because otherwise shit will break
>>
>>749899834
https://github.com/KraftMacAndChee/Mercenaries-Recompiled/
M+K works in-game but not in menus. Other than that solid port of the Xbox version, better models, higher res textures, more effects on-screen and, courtesy of port, 60fps.
>>
>>749897882
if the recomps are merely ai-aided and were created by a competent developer there's nothing wrong with them

that's like less than 1% of them now though
>>
>>749900896
i'd say less than 1%, especially after some reverse-engineering communites have dissolved because the AIniggers won't get out
>>
>>749900303
>Pretty much all Claude recomps use frame interpolation
No, they don't. Frame interpolation is video (like post processing, framegen) interpolation. They do logic interpolation - which nearly every modern game does.
>>
>>749900948
good, all trans spaces should not exist
>>
>>749900810
That's a 60fps cap if the user has selected the 60fps cap option ingame. Otherwise the simulation cap is 1000fps, which is effectively no cap. There is no interpolation in the project.

This is silly, you can play the Uncharted games end-to-end at 120fps because of recomps. And all the gameplay code is running on CPU natively, the GPU work is still being done via emulation, but it's just a matter of time until that's converted over too

It's pretty bad that all their exclusives received unauthorised ports to PC. And the PS5 is now fully rooted and now has a store where every game is free to download. The arrogant dude in charge of Sony is getting his backside paddled by random spergs with Claude right now.
>>
>>749901732
trust me they care way more about the PS6 guaranteed costing $1000+ and AAA development meaning games need to start being prepared ~5 years before the actual console comes out than they care about some faggot in kazakhstan vibing out an astro bot port
>>
>>749897882
I don't care about re-comps or decomps, but you know what would slap? If these shitass AI tools let you play Old MMOs by yourself, by letting you control bots as party members. The way you can play Guild Wars 1, by adding bot-party members. Might be fun to boot up your own classic wow / wowforever server, populate it with bots, and do raids by yourself.

>>
>>749902874
Solo WoW servers pre-date the Claude-driven slopocalypse. They're all based on Mangos, which was hand-written by some greybeard autist years ago

I don't think AI is flash in the pan like blockchain, NFT and Web3. The effect on software development is too significant, the genie can't go back in the bottle. It's like the invention of the car, people are not going back to horses, it's a waste of time with no upside. It was a fad in 2024, but Opus 4.5 in Dec 2025 was the asteroid event for traditional coding
>>
>>749902874
Basically >>749903097 is right, and I say that as a scientist not in computer science or software. People are actively incorporating LLMs into their science, and it's widely recognized that AI can easily outperform graduate students on textbook style problems.
This is on the same tier as digital computing destroying the job title of the computer, just in science alone. As soon as people can find some accountability and interfaces, they're outsourcing their SEM imaging to a fucking AI instead of a shit schedule undergrad who doesn't know anything or a whiny expensive grad student.
>>
>>749903747
that's gonna have some pretty serious knockdown effects when the graduate student level of competence is eradicated and unattainable as a result, stochastic tools are awful for teaching. old masters and literally nothing below them because it's all AI
>>
>>749897882
They're just shitty wrappers filled with bugs that will never be fixed. What any of the people spending money on tokens get out of this I have no idea, none of them actually play the games they're recomping.

have you seen anyone compare performance?
emulators get what, 500 fps at 4k. and recompiled versions get 511 fps?
>>
>>749903930
It's destroying the new starter path in software engineering too. Every job under senior is now semi-pointless because LLMs do it better. Which is fine until you realise now there's not going to be any new seniors either. So when the current batch fucks off, the whole industry falls in on itself. This is an unsolved problem right now.
>>
>>749903930
Oh absolutely. Competency crisis 2.0.
Graduate students grinding through problems was never about learning those weird hyper-specific situations anyways, just generally learning how to manipulate the equations, what tricks and approximations can be used, and how you can make a guess of what something should be before you try to measure it. AI can d that only if it's not novel. They learn the trick and apply it in all the ways other people have already done so, but never in a new way to a new problem. They also explain away anything weird or hallucinate it away, instead of finding new physics because they wanted to know what that weird line is.

>>749897882
I disagree, but you can still use emulators as if this recomp stuff never happened, no one's taking your emulators away. These things can co-exist and it's optional like emulation is to real hardware, and like emulation it takes time to improve. Like RPCS3 for example. You still get people shitting on RPCS3, treating it like it's the same RPCS3 from a couple of years ago, when it's not, it's actually improved a lot, it's pretty fucking good, still not 100% 1 to 1 perfect, but really good and a great alternative to a real PS3.
You gotta remember that this shit is always improving and changing, it's never static. If someone drops thing, other people who really want that thing in their lives will pick up where the other guy left off and make it happen, again like emulation, people reallly wanted bloodborne on pc and they actually made it fucking happened, just like humans made AI an actual thing, hell life itself is just that. I wouldn't brush things off so quickly.
>>
>>749904886
yeah that's what open source is
>>
>>749904886
It's asserting dominance over the original project maintainer. Oh, you won't accept my patch? Ok, I'll just do it anyway in my own forked repo, fuck you.
>>
>>749904960
>it's actually improved a lot, it's pretty fucking good, still not 100% 1 to 1 perfect, but really good and a great alternative to a real PS3.
The craziest thing is it now runs on a jailbroken PS5 flawlessly. There's videos demonstrating PS3 games running on PS5 at 4K/60 with zero frame drops or performance issues. It demonstrates that PS3 emulation is perfectly feasible on PS5, despite what Sony has previously said about it being impossible. They're just lazy shits, PS3 emulation is nowhere near as exotic as we were lead to believe.

People have also created homebrew 60fps patches for so many 30fps capped games, and they all work great. It's amazing how much wasted potential the PS5 has, Sony has the worst fucking management, it's insane.
>>
>>749897882
>Anyone else feel like zero of these recomps are better than emulation?
Pretty sure these AI slopcomps are literally just emulators packed into an exe. Luckily there are still good effortprojects out there.

Severed Chains (Legend of Dragoon port, no AI) just released version 3.0 after three years.
https://legendofdragoon.org/news/severed-chains-3-release/
>>
>>749905608
The PS4 ports are repackaging the ShadPS4 graphics renderer, but all the gameplay code is native, which is where the significant FPS speedup comes from.

most of the time it basically is just repackaged emulators that can only run the one game, yet retards still will clog places like here to shill it hoping to get nothing but endless praise and attention when instead they end up crying until bump limit.
only one i'm even mildly interested in is that sonic dream team one cause fuck sega for locking that and other games to apple arcade (unless the recomp ends up as a buggy mess or sega releases their apple arcade games on console, expecting the former cause the same guy's also doing an ai decomp of fucking shadow the hedgehog).

They're quoting API prices to try to sound big, nobody is paying API prices other than enterprises. People are implementing these on subscription plans which are $200/mo at most.
>>
>>749897882
the performance is probably the same but my CPU temps wont be sky high like RPCS3 probably
>>
>>749906712
more specifically that's what was spent to make claude decompile the source code, a sum that would also be completely illegal if a human were doing it
>>
>>749906749
Aren't companies now starting to up the charge? Things will keep getting more expensive as AI fails to recoup any cost. 200/month subscripts aren't going to cut it and being a loss leader doesn't work when you have 9 digits of debt.
>>
>>749906838
yeah this isn't profitable and it never has been. it's also why all of them keep searching for buyers (they won't be the ones eating the bullet when grim comes around), upping the costs is part of the enshittification/subscription service scam, but AI also forgot to actually reach the mass adoption/irresponsible addiction phase before starting to charge more
>>
>>749906838
They can't, the Chinese models are too good and only a few months behind. If US labs increased their prices, they would lose all their customers. We're seeing the opposite, models like Opus 5.5 and 6.1 Sol are more efficient, less expensive, clearly meant to stem the exodus to cheap Chinese models.

They tried gouging people with premium models like Fable and people didn't fall for it. You can now use models like Deepseek 4.1 flash which is so cheap, it's being offered with unlimited usage on OpenCode's subscription plan and is equivalent to Opus 5 from July.

i can't fucking believe i'm going on the side of the fucking corporations (barely, mind you, cause if anything big does happen i have a feeling it'll ripple to emulators) but the recomps seem like they're just asking for a copyright lawsuit. least emulators are a grey spot where you have to find the roms or BIOS yourself (or if you're tech savvy enough put your own roms up from your physical collection), plus usually being from newer pirates who have to shout about them doing it instead of keeping it down like they're begging for copyright to rape them.
