why is konami outsourcing all their IPs to random western devs lmao are they going bankrupt or they just don't care anymore and just focus on pachislot?
>>
>>750028136
is a 7/10 game. not great, but also not bad. is worse than the recent indie remakes since isnt better than the stuff that we can play on a emulator. i mean. Shinobi, galuga, ragebound and fucking SOR4. cant even compare with these games.

What did you think of the puzzle/knowledge based exploration?

Also I think the games pmatforming hinged too much on the whip
>>
>>750029541
It just turned ability gates into item hunts or puzzle solutions. The concept is neat for the puzzles but everything felt like taking a bunch of halfbaked ideas and just tossing them in a blender. Pretty much my opinion on the grappling hook style stuff as well. They went out of their way to throw as much as possible in to the game without refining anything, and it mostly all just falls flat.
>>
>>750029473
Favorite boss?
I personally thought the guy that sumkoned afterimages of himself was the best albeit simple.
Jean was insulting though. Her 2nd phase was just her repeating the same shit but faster.
Arthur was so bad too.

I feel like there was so much spectacle put into the fights despite how simpler than they actually are. Also, the other anon said how reliant the game was on the whip and I'd extend that to the combat too.

Neither.
The first act is a bit more Classicvania like, granted, or at least a bit like Rondo or Ecclesia.
But then it opens up a lot and becomes much more of a genuine metroidvania, but that doesn't mean it's all of a sudden like SotN or Sorrow, because it isn't. It's still distinct.

But the game is still an excellent game with really satisfying movement and very engaging combat. With really fun enemy gauntlets and bosses.
And the game really does ooze love for Castlevania. It's an excellent new chapter for Castlevania. So I'd really, really love it if we'd be able to get new games like it.

And it being great yet distinct truly is the best possible outcome. Over Castlevania and Bloodstained just doing the same thing simultaneously at the same time. Because Bloodstained still lives. And now we're getting both. And that really is almost too good to be true.

But the platforming challenges are really tight and well executed. How is it not refined? The Hall of Mirrors traversal, just to name an example, is excellent.

Kind of can't help but suspect you're just talking shit just to talk shit.
>>
>>750030335
And also canon. But haters just wish to laser focus on the worst and least flattering art piece.
>>
>>750028136
Well, you'd never give BC to a new player like "yep, this game is representative of the series more broadly" whether you meant Classicvania or IGAvania by that.
So it's some weird third thing that presents its platforming challenges, its exploration, and its combat as separately packaged entities, and kinda ruins them by making traversal more of a chore (ditto when it comes to backtracking for secret-hunting) and combat a spammy i-frame dodge-fest with an abuseable arial move and limited heals, so its either too easy, or hard in a chaotic, cluster-fucky way, often by filling a crowded space with enemies.
To be charitable I would say "it's a good game, but not a good Castlevania game" (which seems to be the emerging modal opinion). I probably wouldn't have bothered playing this over any other cookie-cutter indie Metroidvania that's come out lately if it didn't have "Castlevania" in the title, but that title also sets expectations for it that it isn't trying to reach. It wouldn't be getting nearly as much shit if it had been called "Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown 2" and re-skinned accordingly, because that's what it feels like more than any Castlevania game I've played. I'd have preferred if the new Castlevania "trying to do something different" had tried a little harder to be innovative and unique, rather than adopt elements that are now genre standards prevalent in other modern games.

>>
>>750030540
Haters have been spinning up their own delusional narratives from before the game was even released. Reading into the demo datamine as if it was tea leaves.
A lot of the critiques have been detached from the reality of things from the very get go. And a surprising many of those inaccurate complaints have persisted even after the game's release somehow.
Fuck. You've still got people insisting the game is unchristian like. They either haven't actually played the game, are lying, or both.
>>
>>750028136
The dynamic i-frame movement that allows you to get to the other side of enemies and lack of consumables/enemy drops makes the established-style castle traversal dry, so they overcompensated with the turbo engaged gauntlets a'la OoE Training Hall. You will have either/or.
>>
>>750030674
>Tries to have good platforming fucked with the pacing
Your movement is swift and smooth though. How in what way whatsoever does it mess with the pacing?
>Tries to have good exploration devolves into lock key puzzle shit
You can do a lot of the puzzles without the "intended" key abilities.

And tangential to the above. With multiple fast travel systems. How does either of them supposedly mess with the pacing?
You're making no sense.

Also the enemy variety isn't bad at all.
Is your standard really that it has got to have as many enemies such as SotN or Aria or whatever? And that's including tons of literal recolours.
Was the enemy variety of all the classicvanias shit too?
By the end of the day Belmont's Curse has a lot of different enemies and they're broadly rather distinct too.

>And the game really does ooze love for Castlevania.
Nothing says "love for castlevania" like turning Leon into a milk fed gimp that the girl boss main character shouts down at every opportunity, utterly destroying the time line of the Belmont family so bad you make it impossible for any more of them to be born, and ripping up lore so bad that the castle contains portraits of people who won't exist for five hundred years.
>>
>>750031097
silksong didn't have a white palace but had more rather hard platforming like bliewater or the climb to reach surface, hell even the Last Judge runback was harder than 95% of HK's platforming. HK only had WP...

>its bizarre too because hk secluded its platform autism to the white palace
Which was one of its biggest weaknesses given how great its platforming was and how much potential was there.
>even silksong wasnt that filled with nonstop platforming challenges
No. Silksong has a fuckton of platforming stuff. All but everywhere. Even more so than Belmont's Curse. Though most of its platforming challenges are shorter than the ones in Belmont's Curse. But it has a lot of longer ones as well. When did you last play it if you feel like it had less of it?
Silksong almost doesn't let you jump from a single platform to another without bouncing on at least one thing in-between.
>>
>>750031058
It probably had a decent amount of switch sales, but even at the outside, I would say probably 140k sales at the most.

Unless youre a retard on the pogo I dont really consider those platform challenges.
>>
The real problem is that the game was afraid to break the tradition of the genre. Eg. Every boss has to be an action packed parryrollsuperfast garbage fest. It leaves no room for a really memorable boss like Legion, or a battle of attrition boss or anything slow and lumbering but strong. Everything has to be superfast and be defeated in the same way with the same strats they give you.
Even bloodstained wasn't afraid to be broken by player choice
>>
Jump puzzles shouldn't exist in metroidvanias at all, it's a cancer that's killing the genre.
>>
>>750028136
No. It plays like one of those shitty indie platformers. It's tedious and boring. The music is grating. Everything blends in with the single color backgrounds and looks like trash.
>>
>>750031363
But swinging with the whip on a grappling point in Belmont's Curse is something you consider a platforming challenge?

You'll find that most games allow the player character to MOVE, anon. Might as well say that it's a real castlevania game because it exploys the use of colour or text on the screen. Faggot.
>>
>>750031420
>or a battle of attrition boss
Isaac? The Zealot.
>or anything slow and lumbering but strong. Everything has to be superfast and be defeated in the same way
The Builder? Talos.
And then there are bosses like Dracula himself or the doppelganger.
The succubus was kind of distinct too.

Carmilla had a fun gimmick, shame that she was just too much of a pushover for the 8-hit-loss thing to really matter.
Medusa's gimmick is fun though even if her fight is relatively simple. But she is the 2nd or 3rd boss of the game.
But even The Fallen, has that fun thing where you can make him tumble straight into the floor if you interrupt his whip swinging with the fireballs.

I really love Bloodstained so you won't hear me claim the game is bad. But that game for better or worse has lots more opportunities to you just fight all the bosses the exact same way. Especially with how you have the potential to attain really overpowered builds pretty early and then the ability to further strengthen and juice up that same build and playstyle until the end.
So it's kind of curious how you're implying that it's the opposite.

Actually, I am saying this is a good thing. The player being able to choose how they approach things, even if they choose an overpowered route, is the core of what I am saying makes them enjoyable.

This game is not ever going to let you do that. It just can't. You will fight every single boss like a 2D souls game, and that's it.
>>
>>750031916
I guess you just have to close your eyes and ears when Rose talks about her like she's her personal hero throughout, then in the ending when it basically deifies her.

>Actually, I am saying this is a good thing. The player being able to choose how they approach things, even if they choose an overpowered route, is the core of what I am saying makes them enjoyable.
And as I was saying. I really do love Bloodstained. I don't think it's a bad thing.
But if you can choose 1 thing and then just do 1 thing throughout the entire game. Then you've got considerably more samey boss fights.
Which was somehow a complaint you had for Belmont's Curse? Why? The fights are rather distinct.

>You will fight every single boss like a 2D souls game, and that's it.

Let me give you an example.
Player 1 is going through bloodstained for the first time, and gets to zangetsu. He is using a long sword, and tries and fails and tries again many times to get the patterns of this attacks down and ultimately wins through, and feels great for having done so.

Player 2 doesn't want to do that, so he uses a gun and spends a half hour grinding out bullets nearby to make each attack he makes more powerful, while allowing him to keep his distance and ignore a lot of mechanics.

Player 3 has already played the game before and wants to rush it, so buys a load of healing items and face tanks the boss, healing when needed.

Player 4 has already gotten 5 dullahammer heads as a familiar, to make the boss just that bit easier for him while also engaging with the mechanics with a katana

etc etc

Leon is a highly respectable character in this game and easily said to be your closest ally.
Trevor, your father, is also highly revered and is framed and shown as being awesome in-game. He isn't treated like a bitch in the slighted, nor a piece of shit.
On the flip side. Medusa is something of a punching bag with Joan, Leon, and more shitting on her. Carmilla is also challenged and ignored at least once when she tries to spout bullshit. And if you think they, and the succubus aren't portrayed as pieces of shits, then Dracula and Isaac aren't either. And for the two of them, if anything this might be their best depictions to date.
