I don't hate AI, I think its a fine tool. I just don't care for AI generated art. Art is a form of expression, its appeal comes from the thought behind it and the hand expressing it. AI art is meaningless because there's no thought or feeling put into it. Its like the artistic equivalent of factory made food. A visual tv dinner.

Now it can be used to make good things. Unexplained Oddities was a good series, and it used nothing but AI art. But its appeal came from the human touch that wrote the jokes and put it all together, not the art in a vacuum.

Anyways I draw for fun. Yeah I could get a machine to do it, but I want to do it because I like to. Even if I suck, I still enjoy trying. I'm sure there's some vidya you like that you absolutely suck at, but keep playing because you enjoy it.
>>
>>750491298
I normally draw with a pencil, I just wanted to do something different today. Changing things up is good. Pens are different and they force you to improvise and work around your mistakes, which I think is a good skill to develop.

The shapes and curves that make up the foundation of a drawing aren't mistakes to work around. They're the guides intended to keep your ink work from turning into a bunch of mistakes. Of course your work is going to look terrible when you're working around them instead of with them. Teaching yourself to do things wrong isn't good.

Yeah, I know fundamentals are important. But being able to improvise means you can land on your feet and keep going if you make a mistake, which as a fallible human being, you're going to do. Making less mistakes is better than fixing them, but being able to fix a mistake you can't erase is a good skill to have. I envy painters in that regard, those guys are great about that. >>750492797
Oh, the construction lines. That's just because I'm out of practice. Back in the day I could draw him without them, because I had the shapes and hand motions as muscle memory. If I keep drawing with pen, I can do less and less construction lines, until I don't need any at all. Like Gomez Addams going parachuting.

There's also tricks you can do to hide the lines in the final drawing. Like drawing over them to make them look like part of a shape, or working them into the design of the character. Like the bottom of that circle can be the point where his snout meets his head. Or the cross line can be turned into machinery in his eye sockets if I drew the lines fainter. Or i used to do this trick where the construction shapes for his limbs would just become his metal skeleton, and I'd wrap other things around them to bulk him out.

Its funny. Most of these are for game ideas that I never brought to fruition. Redford was for a mascot horror thing (back when that was still a fresh genre) with Resident Evil 7 style gameplay and a hard boiled detective mc. Then it switched to being a fixed camera RE 1 style game where you played as Red, or alternating between the two. That bunny on the bottom right, Clyde, was from an idea for a half life inspired fps that took place in zero G. The whole thing would've revolved around there being no gravity, objects would float in the air and move until something stopped them (so basically any object could become a weapon in pushed), and you had magnetic boots that let you walk on walls and cielings. I even had a dystopian sci fi plot for it about the main characters being genetically engineered animals used to side step inter planetary labor and AI laws. That one on the middle right later developed into a Deus Ex inspired imsim (inb4 "no such thing", you know what I mean) where you played as an umbrella corporation style BOW after a site wide containment failure in a research facility. And that bird on the left was an ex WW1 fighter ace from a comic I never got around to drawing that I toyed with turning into a game.

Recently I've been thinking about if Red could be brought back as an RPG maker horror game. That seems a lot more feasible than my lofty teenage dreams.

Also here's a really old drawing from when I sucked even worse.

Still seems like training yourself into bad habits. I've seen a lot of artists choose stagnation and self-indulgence over improvement. It's pretty disappointing when you realize they're not worth following any more. You're in a lot of trouble if you're already of that mindset at the starting line.

>I've seen a lot of artists choose stagnation and self-indulgence over improvement. It's pretty disappointing when you realize they're not worth following any more
The thing is I'm really not much of an artist, at least not by trade, and I don't have designs on being a professional artist. It really is just for fun. So maybe it is a bit self indulgent and maybe even lazy, but you know, I'm a casual.

Besides its not like I can't do it the other way. I just happen to like this way. I saw some professional artist (don't ask me who, its been years) draw his characters perfectly in one go with a pen when doing autographs, and that amazed me. I like being able to do that, and I like the results it gets. But I can and do draw proper images with clean up too. That's just a different thing from these little pen sketches right here. That's a commitment which takes effort. All of this is just me fucking around for fun.

I'm much more of a writer. That's what I actually dedicate myself to getting gud at. So the art ends up being second fiddle, a side piece to whatever I'm writing at the time.

Split for character limit

As for the image. I'm trying to think of who the style reminds me of. I do like how wildly different in tone and style you've depicted him. He's cute, slim, and sharp looking in mine, while you give him this blocky heavy metal look. I actually did draw him in a more detailed horror style (shame I lost the drawings) but it was a lot more focused on tattered cloth and cross beamed wires, with exposed mechanical and electrical internals that looked like tendons and veins. And his temperment was more like a rabid animal, because the idea with him is that he wasn't just a possessed robot, but some product of witchcraft and mechanical engineering attaching a human soul to animal flesh in a mechanical body. So the animal parts and that spiritual remains of a human are being unnaturally forced together, causing a lot of friction, making agitated and delirious like a rabid animal. And because of the black magic, the flesh and machinery have grown together, so those pistons and wires have real tendons and veins connected to them, and through some of the rips in his outer fabric you could see his organic insides crudely pierced by and tangled with the mechanical ones.

You're trying to draw complex furry garbage you don't have the skillset for you need to learn proper anatomy before you draw shitty calarts furry diaper shit. That's the biggest problem with spergs, unless you have the talent already you shouldn't waste time doing that. Art and illustration is all about habits, once you get good enough you want to make less mistakes and less unneeded strokes and that's when you can just draw freely, after getting that good you'll be thinking shit that wasn't so hard, why can't others do this.

I've recently developed a love for the art in those old British storybooks that were collections of fairy tales with illustrations. I remember it had the big bad wolf dressed in Edwardian casualware smoking a pipe, it was great.

maybe if try drawing something everyday dummy, that's the entire point you suck because you don't even try. Keep a notepad with you to scribble on each day and that's how you get better.

Draw something you see and then look at it, why does that look shit, draw it again with references and study lighting and shading, compare it to the first piece of shit. That's was illustrating is, its repetition for hours

The point when someone gets good is they can always visualize what they see in their head from seeing it countless times, you know the shape, the perspective, the lighting, the colours. People don't just get magically good at art, its because they no life it and that's all they know.

I got so used to it that I found Wacom tablets uncomfortable for a while. Even now I still cannot get the exact same feeling on a Wacom I had on the 3DS touchscreen.

With a resistive touchscreen there's no pressure sensitivity, so every touch is the same and you rely on different brushes to do everything (lighter brushes for lighter syrokes, semi-transparent brushes, blend blushes, etc.)

All of that (and much more) is available on Photoshop and Krita, but it's just not the same.

The point is to satisfy your existential urge. Every person eventually discovers what they're meant to do with their lives, I've always liked drawing and that's what I'm going to do, because no other activity makes me feel whole as much as it. you guys probably have no real interest in art, but i'll respond for anyone who is considering using AI instead of actually learning.
AI is a crux, it's just a shortcut for opportunists. you have no merit to claim yourself an artist if you use AI, and anyone with any semblance of perception can see through your deception.
if you rely on AI, you will never improve. art is a process of creation, whereas AI is a process of curation.
if you seriously want to be an artist, using AI will do nothing but inhibit any potential for improvement.
if you just want to use AI to make memes or slop for self-consumption, that's fine. but if you have any aspiration to be an artist, you won't get very far.
>>
>>750500497
art is divided between 3 core skill areas; practical aptitude, knowledge, and perception.
those drills are meant to train your practical skill. it's your ability to control what your hand is doing on the canvas. someone with a lot of practice can confidently draw a very clean circle, whereas someone new to drawing will find it very challenging. it is actively trained, and improves with muscle memory, which is what makes these boring drills effective over time.
knowledge is your understanding of everything that serves as the foundation of the subject you are drawing (anatomy, mannequinisation, perspective, etc.)
perception is your ability to discern quality and understanding of style, it is passively trained by consumption of media and the work of others, which then influences your own style.
>>
>>750513385
Guess make it exist first then make it better it seems...
>>
>>750515173
perception is funny, your eyes see everything but somehow your brain refuse to let you see it unless you actively train it

Can I learn drawing exclusively drawing digital? Or it is better to draw in paper?
>>
>>750521217
better to learn on paper. comparatively, paper gives immediate, raw visual feedback that's useful for developing motor skill. actually seeing how your strokes come into being with no software-guided strings attached is excellent for refining your markmaking ability. its one of the most, if not THE most, fundamental to learn imo.

>>750520903
this is stellar. what's your process when you do studies? do you sketch out lines first, then paint over them? every time i try painting i feel like i'm doing something in the wrong order.

both paper and digital have their own pros and cons, I would say the best way to approach this is to be flexible and practice both. drawing on paper will help build your line confidence since there's no ctrl+z on paper

If you don't enjoy the early game, then you probably won't enjoy the late game either. The whole game is you going through the loop and steadily improving. Being that good at 1000 hours is basically just post game content. Shittily drawing your characters because you like to is the game.

Start on paper. It's cheaper than shelling out for a $300+ tablet, and, like other anons have said, gives you more tactile feedback on your motions.

You see things, but you don't really know what any of it is. I'm sure there's a lot of things in life that you've looked at and been like "what the fuck is this thing?". Now just think about how many times you looked at something and didn't even realize there was parts of it you just didn't recognize.

There was a point in your life where you couldn't even perceive your own existence. Every aspect of perception has to be learned.

Not that you care, but I think it's interesting how the exact same things were said about digital art (digital painting, drawing pads, photoshop filters), similar to what was said about photography when it first came out.

Basically, in a decades time using AI will be the equivalent of choosing to take a photograph. That doesn't mean photography makes traditional painting obsolete, but it is still a valid form of expression whether you like it or not
>>
>>750521217

I genuinely have no idea what goes through the minds of AIjeets. They genuinely have no interests, no hobbies, no determination to improve and seek long-term goals, instead they're extremely lazy, entitled and addicted to sucking each other off.
I kind of automatically assume that they either had no good family relationships or got completely failed by their parents who spoiled them while teaching them nothing.

Nta, but it definitely needs its own term. Right now people are treating it like regular drawn art, which it has almost no merit as when judged by that medium's standards. Photography started out being a quick and dirty replacement for painting, but it quickly became its own thing because it really wasn't suited to being pressed into that field.

You are onto something there. Before photography, the only way to capture someone's likeness was to get a portrait painted. Obviously with photography that directly replaces that use case, as you have something able to capture and reflect reality much better, easier, and cheaper.

But that just freed painting up to explore. You don't have to paint realistically because you could take a photo if you wanted realism.

I do think AI art will replace some use cases of hand-made art, but I also don't believe human made art will be totally displaced or disappear.

>Obviously with photography that directly replaces that use case, as you have something able to capture and reflect reality much better, easier, and cheaper.
It didn't really replace the use case. Pictures taken in the style of portraits were often unnatural and off putting because the people in them were posed and displayed like they were being put in a portrait. It illustrated the difference between just preserving someone's likeness and specifically getting a portrait painted. Portraits are much more artistic and interpretive than pictures, and end up being different artistically because of it.

>Luddite
there it is.

Your ai lacks gnosis, it is not designed with it in mind because it is not actually ai. Your inability to understand how this makes it inadequate makes you the true luddite. You approach this as though it were worship.

Your ai takes the sum total, the average, weighted by what you describe, but it is still a chinese room that does not comprehend the eroticism of fingers sinking desperately into a womans thighs, or how the view of her neck as she gasps in pleasure at my grand work makes the view all the more erotic. You can adjust and shift but you are forever working off a base that was incapable of seeing these things, because it doesn't see at all.
It is slop because it lacks fundamental pieces, and you are swine because you do not desire those pieces. I fully support the advancement of technology, but you are a fool who has misunderstood what the technology is. Your desires are weak. You will never match my Ero Power.
>>750530906

>>
>>750523835
criticism against digital art was during the 60's, during its infancy, largely due to ignorance influenced by a misunderstanding of the methods involved in creating it.
criticism against AI is not out of ignorance, people know that AI uses data trained from artists work without consent. and people understand the methods involved, which requires zero artistic skill, and results in zero improvment of that skill.
you're comparing a medium for creation with a tool for curation. your argument is flawed, and you're a fuckwit for even trying to make an attempt at it when you clearly have zero understanding of the matter.

Perhaps you are unaware that when you dig deeper, your brain is nothing more than cells firing electrical impulses as well, that there is no proof that you or any other human being is more conscious than any AI that exists today.

Perhaps you are aware of this. And it makes you deeply uncomfortable, which is the root of the anger you feel.

you continue to make a fool of yourself. I'm aware of the nature of these impulses and signals. this isn't new information. It can even be argued that our emotions are secondary processes that our brain only convinces the illusory "self" of after it happened. it's why qualia is subjective. the problem is that ai is not designed to reach these goals, and lacks the vast majority of the mechanisms that make our conscious processes loop back into each other.

You may have believed this to be deep, but the problem is you are speaking with a lack of understanding, taking the bits and pieces of these ideas that seem to support you on the surface, while discarding the parts that are in turn uncomfortable to you.

My anger is not at ai, my anger is at you for thinking the technology is something that it is not, and is not being designed to be. It is certainly MARKETED as what you think, but that thing is not profitable, and thus not being worked towards.

You fundamentally misunderstand the things you talk about because you stop digging once you get something that seems like it supports your view, making you look foolish in the long term.
AI is a marketing term for something that is decisively not.

Booru just comes from the original "Danbooru" which released its source code way back allowing others to copy its design. Boorus are just what the things that came after are called by. The actual quality of how each booru is run doesn't really play into the naming convention (though yes most boorus are pretty trash).
in short, rule34 sites(each of the various splinters of it) are boorus.

Oh crap, late reply sorry anon. What I usually do is have a game plan on what im trying to study. With the pieces im showing the goal is to copy without having to pick the color from the color wheel and just to place the subject as close as possible to the original by eyesight without any real measurement but your own judgement. If you have to do an underdrawing just make it a quick gesture that you have a frame to lay color down on, like large brush scribbles.

Yeah but consider this: I can learn art for 30 years and get nowhere because I'm not a nepo baby, or I can just shit out AI "paintings" and 3D print them and get a real art career because I am a nepo baby.

Unfortunately there is no correlation between your skill and your position in the art world, wish there was but it's all just completely pointless unless you've been born into the right family.

I couldn't point out an Su-37 in a line up. I know very little about Russian jets. Most of my plane knowledge is WW1 fighters and 1st gen jets, and most of my militaria knowledge is ships. This is more of a failure on my end.

If you anthro'd a WW1 fighter, I might be able to pick out what model he is.
>>

He's FNAF inspired, but also just inspired by the FNAF clone genre in general. I took a lot of influence from the Walten Files when coming up with him.

>>750545032
>I say what I say because people of this fandom are incredibly obnoxious and have fetishes that go beyond what is acceptable even on 4chan
Come on, anon. We both know there's no such thing as "too far" on 4chan, merely too obscure.

Anyways, Red isn't a porn character. I think he's a bit too cute and innocent to do that sort of thing to.
>>
>>750546171
>He's FNAF inspired, but also just inspired by the FNAF clone genre in general. I took a lot of influence from the Walten Files when coming up with him.
neat. I never really cared much about OCs myself before, but I guess I see the virtue in fucking around with your own ideas and characters now.
as for the walten files, I've got such mixed feelings on it with how it's really interesting on one hand, and on the other hand the voice acting is like people that don't know English are reading off the script.
More power to you though.
>>
>>750546284
> I never really cared much about OCs myself before,
Every character is an OC. I don't think its really possible to be creative without making some amount of OCs. But maybe that's just my own creative habits coloring things. I'm super OC focused. Half of what I make is original stories and the other half is fanfics starring OCs, and they're all character focused.

You never created any characters? Like for a story or a comic?

>as for the walten files, I've got such mixed feelings on it with how it's really interesting on one hand, and on the other hand the voice acting is like people that don't know English are reading off the script.
i dropped it after the post episode 3 hiatus. I heard it got worse after it came back.

I actually thought the voice acting worked to its favor in the early episodes. The serial killer in the halloween special sounding like an ESL just made him seem more creepy. As did the TTS voices.

and looking back on it yeah that makes sense, but my brain always put original characters from their own original series in a separate category. I've only recently come to realize that there's no real need to draw the line here or there.
>You never created any characters? Like for a story or a comic?
only in the last year. I can see the virtue in it now and the enjoyability of it, but it just didn't make sense to me before.
>I actually thought the voice acting worked to its favor in the early episodes. The serial killer in the halloween special sounding like an ESL just made him seem more creepy. As did the TTS voices.
I just think back to the episode where they are playing the game, and their talking just feels so awkward. For me the esl talking didn't add to that scene at all because it felt like the actors didn't even understand WHY they were saying whatever they were saying.

Red isn't a FNAF OC, he's just FNAF inspired. I made him as part of a cast of an original game that I never got around to making.

> I've only recently come to realize that there's no real need to draw the line here or there.
What swayed you?

>only in the last year
May I see?

>I just think back to the episode where they are playing the game,
That was about where I dropped the series. Most of what I remember of it is from before that.
>>
>>750546976
>What swayed you?
the 4chan undertale fangame community seeing them create stuff and just have fun with it made me also look back with a new perspective on all the other creative stuff I'd seen over the years
>Red isn't a FNAF OC, he's just FNAF inspired. I made him as part of a cast of an original game that I never got around to making.
ahh ok that makes sense
>May I see?
I don't draw, I only write, and it's undertale related
>That was about where I dropped the series. Most of what I remember of it is from before that.
ahh fair, that's about the most recent thing I remember as well so I guess we're in a similar place there.

Partners?

>that's about the most recent thing I remember as well so I guess we're in a similar place there.
I didn't drop it because of the voices, I dropped it because of the 2 year hiatus. Killed any investment I had.
