I prefer the vanilla portraits of Jas, firstly because, although she is arguably not as pretty as her mod's portraits, she has a "girl next door" aspect to her which the vanilla matches better, I think, and secondly and most importantly because, the mod's faces do not match the same facial expressions as the original, specifically this one in particular, which definitely conveys different reactions between the two, which imply a deviation in her character, from an awkwardness that could either be described as deer-in-headlights or an emotional detachment or perhaps both, to attempting to avoid eye contact, with what is seemingly not meant to really be a slight frown but that comes off as one anyway, at least at first glance. It's a shame, because that is ultimately what drove me to using the vanilla portraits, so I hope the vanilla portraits continue to be updated. This creates a deadline by which you must get everything done while the city and its inhabitants still look alive. Planted something, harvested, sold, planted more, but every year you lose time during which the social part of the game remains adequate. Realistically, you have about 4-5 years. In my opinion, the best strategy for your first skull cavern dive (actually for all of them, but especially the first) is to avoid any combat you can avoid, which is basically everything other than serpents and, to a lesser extent, bats. Everything else is slow enough that you can easily run circles around it with +2 speed. Serpents aren't that bulky, so even with just the obsidian edge they go down reasonably fast. Avoiding combat also makes defense buffs unnecessary, which is important because the single most important buff for skull cavern dives is luck since it significantly increases your chances to find staircases and, even more importantly, shafts. Honestly, just trade 2-3 rubies for spicy eel and some diamonds for espresso (unless you're already making your own) and that's all the buffs you'll ever want, don't bother with anything else. Restore HP/stamina with non-buff food of your choice, e.g. salads, so it doesn't override your speed/luck buffs.Almost equally important as the food, bombs. Craft all the normal/mega bombs you can, or use explosive slingshot ammo if that's your thing, because you'll progress so much faster and the cavern only becomes rewarding on the lower levels.Bring a few staircases (or just craft them as you need them) and use the to skip really shitty floors (e.g. I always skip infested/dinosaur floors, or most spiral floors because it's a pain to find a staircase on and rarely ever has large clusters of rocks to use bombs on). With just a bit of preparation, really not a whole lot, it's not that hard to reach level 100+ even on your first run. But even if you're still getting used to it and don't get that far, chances are you'll still easily get your first prismatic shard for the galaxy sword which will make subsequent runs less annoying because you can kill serpents and bats much faster with it.

How do you get iridium quality fish that you have no way of perfecting? Like the legendary fish or lava eels, even with all the best buffs there is no fucking way you are perfecting some of those assholes. But the iridium quality exists. The pond is stocked with sturgeon, and the cave grows mushrooms.Also, how do I get grass to grow in the whole pasture? A lot of my critters aren't getting to eat any but they eat it too fast for it to spread into the areas they go to. Do I just need to shut them inside for a few days or do the paths confuse them somehow?

Next you want to place some decorations, fence posts, or lamp posts on top of the grass, dotted throughout the pasture. The grass underneath the object won't die, and will continue to spread, but animals won't be able to eat it. This gives you a permanent source of grass.Also that pasture is over-sized, animals don't really wander that far from their building, you could use a lot of that land for more crops or sheds. There's about 300 there all together, but technically the total crop space is around 2k if you include the large swath that takes up most of the map. It's definitely designed really well in that it encourages the use of that swath mainly for animal buildings, so it definitely is an ranch centered map, but up can absolutely get away with using some, if not half, of the big field for crops if you want. It's one of the better maps imo for both efficiency and for aesthetics

Anyone else get to midway through summer 1 and then restart because they fell they could have optimized spring better? I've done it like 4 times now and it's made me realize, the game is only fun in the hobo phase.
