Are the dust filters necessary on the Hind? Like, if i don't activate it, will it actually fuck up my engine if i'm on grass instead of a proper landing pad/air strip ?
Can't find any actual answer to the question besides niggers guessing it and i can't access the game right now.
>>

I've died in the hip landing in sandy/dusty environments repeatedly w/o dust protection, eventually setting my engines on fire. Probably also modeled in the hind. Icing on the other hand never seems to cause any real issues.

Yeah, a FC3-level F-22 or F-35 would sell like hot cakes, maybe even to some normies that then get converted

They are probably worried about completely destroying multiplayer balance.
F-15 vs Su-27 is bad enough already.

Lots of things are scarier than the Su-27.
The point I was trying to make was that F-15 vs Su-27 is already imbalanced and favoring the blue side because of AMRAAM.
If you add F-22 or F-35 PvP servers will either have to ban those or red side will never have a chance.

>>
>>475324337
>>475325161
Good points, although they could be counter balanced by FC3 J-20 and Su-57 and in the end it's still up to the server host. A simulation, like real life doesn't necessarily have to be balanced
and for the sake of gameplay it can
i just want the cool sims of the late 90s/early 2000s back

I've been looking forward to it for however many years now. But just like when it was first announced, I have no idea what to do with it... I already know how to fly a jet ranger, and I don't really do MP so buddy-lasing isn't really in the cards for me. Low level ground action is just as terrible as it was when this game was announced, maybe worse since the AI are forehead seeking missiles at anything under 10,000 feet.

The NXT Premium was my first stick I got for DCS. It's probably the best bang for your buck stick on the market. I would still get a throttle (like the scalable stecs for example) and pedals but you can manage with them.

Just got my Tobii Eye tracker. Its not as sharp as VR or IR tracking, but having your head movements AND eye movements tracked is pretty cool. Works fine in DCS and Elite dangerous.

In DCS with the eyetracker you will have to get used to not moving your focus while you are trying to click on a button/control in the cockpit ohter wise it's case of 'chase the control'. To a lesser extent you get the same thing with trackir, but it's easier to hold your head still than it is to keep looking at the same point

Flight sims and Mech sims. I have a reasonably powerful computer. Not sure what Flight Sim to start with. Probably Microsoft Flight Sim. Regarding the latter, I'll also ask /&tg/ about what HOTAS setup they use (if any), but I figured there would be some overlap with this general.

Keep in mind that combat/space combat throttles (e.g. the TWCS) are designed for left-handed use (fighter jet/single-seater/tandem style).
Some civilian planes are like that but the majority in MSFS at least are side-by-side seating with the throttle in the middle between the two seats, and the standard main/solo pilot position is the left seat, putting the throttle on your right.
If you care about matching that, or simply want to be able to keep your left hand on the stick while operating the mouse with your right hand, you may want to investigate right-handed/ambidextrous throttles.

I almost went with that but ended up going with the Airbus stick instead because it has a better reputation for not lifting up off the desk by accident as much (Velocity One has stiffer springs it seems).
But if you're going to clamp/screw your stick down then that doesn't matter.
>>
>>475798081
I have both and you're right the V1 definitely has stiffer springs. I have a tendency to always be putting some sort of downforce on the stick whenever I have my hand on it so personally I haven't noticed, but I could absolutely see lifting being a problem with a lighter grip.

That's how several real life pilots died who thought they could fly at night without IFR practice. Something that DCS players (including me) rarely bother doing. Get into the habit of constantly checking your instruments when you fly at night or in a cloud.

In video games you miss feedback from gravity, though.
It's pretty hard to not realize that you're flying inverted in real life, especially if you're in a civilian plane and not strapped to the seat.
>>
>>475935768
I've can imagine in a military aircraft it's possible to boil the frog so slowly you don't notice you're inverted, but in a civilian aircraft? Would you not notice that all the shit you brought with you in the cockpit is now on the ceiling hitting you in the head?

I remember a mission from one of the F-18 or A-10 campaigns. You had to protect ships from Iranian motorboat attacks. At night.
It took an insane amount of effort to not crash into the sea, while trying to spot those tiny dots of motorboats on my targeting pod and doing rocket and gun runs of them.

Frankly I'm relatively sure that ORBX moved their map(terrain mesh) making team to DCS because Asobo started to get too good.

After MS managed to get the government of NZ to give them access to their like 3 meter (I think) accuracy topographical scans of the country it was over.

definitely is unfinished and the texture quality is kinda shit but it's nice, northern scandinavia is very hard to model because of the various terrains and terrain features but ORBX did it, when flying you can very easily feel that you're flying into new areas and makes VFR navigation very easy as opposed to other DCS maps.
just hope that they'll put in the necessary work and I'll gladly dedicate 500GB of disk space for kola.

Boresight alignment while the F-16 is moving (ie. doing it in the air while not in active pause) permanently breaks them and makes them point to entirely different directions than your HUD or TGP symbology

they are still kinda usable if you never touch boresighting but in default alignment they are a bit off and TGP handoff doesn't work

Already had the Airbus stick. Wanted something relatively mobile to go with the laptop so it needed to be all in one. 2 slider axes, 2 hats, a trim wheel, and a shitload of buttons fit the bill.
I paid a hundred bucks which I think is a pretty fair deal, wouldn't pay much more than that. I don't recall but I feel like it was significantly more at launch. The throttle/flaps axes aren't super high precision but for what I fly it doesn't really matter. They just tend to be a little sticky when doing fine adjustments.
It does have a tendency to rock on the pitch axis, especially nose down, which didn't even bother me until another anon mentioned it and now its mildly irritating.

that's because sims back in the day weren't made by lazy, greedy slavs. I honestly can't imagine what those flight sim developers from the late 80s to mid 90s would do with today's technology. Unfortunately, by the time the tech caught up, the flight sim genre dried up and died.

Sick of my shite T Flight Hotas, no idea how I've put up with it for so long. I've ordered a T16000M, I know it's still a cheaper stick and throttle but should be an improvement. I don't fancy spending £500 on stuff (yet).
>>
>>476724630
>yet
just spend it now, it'll be cheaper than stepping up slight increments of garbage in the long run
>>
>>476724998
No I am not in a position to spend that much and I don't want to dump hundreds and then get bored of simming for a bit and do something else.
>>
>>476724630
Pros:
>good sensor on stick
>throttle has some of the best ergonomics out there
Cons:
>stick has way too few buttons and it's kinda shit outside of the sensor
>throttle has jittery sensors
>spring on the t.16000m stick is kinda weird close to the center? so it's hard to do more subtle stuff like AAR
Personal opinion:
Decent stick and throttle combo but it leaves something to be desired, for me it was no double-detented trigger, few buttons and the throttle has the analog stick on the front instead of the sides.
Hope you enjoy it.

There's some guy that's made a standalone QRA mission and then a campaign of similar missions for the F-16 where there's a certain amount of random events that happens with what aircraft and what they do when you form up on them, they're also quite stable if you change out the F-16 for other planes. I've done that mission at night with both Mirages and the police light works quite well. The dude that made those missions did a very solid job.

For those that have the MSFS PMDG 737, is it worth it? I would rather pay full price for the -800 instead of the -600 because the -600 doesn't come with the cargo or business jet versions.
I was also considering the Fenix A320, but given that the FBW exists for free and the Inibuilds one is coming maybe someday. I tried the Inibuilds in the last patch, not today's, but it wouldn't move on the ground. I think it conflicts with the Toolbar Pushback add-on. For those that have tried the Inibuilds in the beta, how does it compare to the FBW and the Fenix?

Thinking about buying Farming Simulator 22 premium edition, it looks comfy enough. I played the base version on gamepass for a few minutes to see if i might like it.

you start with several machines if you choose easy mode and that one map, i want to know if it's feasible for a beginner to start without these freebies? during the tutorial i saw that you need numerous machines to get the crops going so naturally it helps to start out with some equipment, but it also feels very cheat-y to me. i usually wanna start from nothing in these kinds of games. but how do you even start off without machines, i doubt the starting money is enough for tractor + seed machine, soil plowing tool etc.

you any tips / input on this matter? thanks

Running a coin mission in the Apache, 130 knots 200 feet off the ground in high walled canyons. Making a turn come up directly (probably within 100 yards) on a convoy of 4, with 2 toytas with aa strapped on. a group of ruskichad modders have created the holy fucking grail of DCS modding
they managed to combine Su-33 and Su-25T avionics into a single multirole Su-30 without having to switch between AA and AG versions, so radar, targeting pod, radar missiles and guided AG weapons work at the same time, it's a true multirole module
it also has clicky cockpit and MFD screens with multiple pages

Why do people even bother with this shit, I'd legit rather just close my eyes and pretend the F-15E is an Su-30 than play with reskinned FC3 jets which is what 99% of DCS mods are
>>
>>477011471
The mod is pretty cool though.
They somehow hacked the radar to detect ships and you can use it to fire anti-ship missiles which no FC3 aircraft can do.
They also added additional zoom to the targeting pod which lets you fire long range cruise missiles.
It also has its own navigation computer, RWR, etc.

The only thing they borrowed from FC3 is the radar and TGP symbology and its ability to pass coordinates to guided weapons which cannot be modded.

is xplane12 worth it? from civ sims i only played msfs and i heard that xp12 is better in terms of physics and whatnot. i have xp11 but the graphics are off putting and performance is dogshit even with a 4090 on lowest.
>>
>>477150373
X Plane is a horribly optimized mess and at the end of the day not a ton better than MSFS
Really the only reason to get it is if you’re interested in the third party addons that aren’t available in MSFS

Depends on what you want, do you want a single engine turboprop with more modern equipment, or an older twin piston/turboprop

Wow already the T16000M is so much better and smoother than the T flight, no idea how I put up with that for so long.

I've been leaning more towards the TBM but I love the cockpit of the Duke, I'll probably get both it's just which to get first.
>>
>>477175298
I’d suggest getting the TBM first in that case, it’s what you want and it’s cheaper
>>

God bless the USA
>>
>>477180708
Well the tablet is great and arguably better than A2A’s in a lot of ways, the aircraft is just plain fun to fly, looks great, sounds great, and the KNS-81 analog RNAV system can finally be tracked by the autopilot instead of just showing up on the CDI
Also all proceeds will be going to the greatest rendition of the Beechcraft Starship ever that is hopefully coming out before the end of the year which admittedly there isn’t a high bar because nobody’s ever done it justice, but considering you’re already a customer of Black Square’s, it should be obvious how great of a simulation it will be
>>
>>477195672
>Do you want the mustache on or off?
Oh shit I had no idea this was even in development. Tempted to buy just to donate.
>>
>>477196019
Yep, he announced it back in 2022 when he released the first analog aircraft(caravan and king air) but it’s been slowly being developed in the background while he gains more knowledge on sim development, but going off what someone I know said talking to him IRL last year at FSExpo, he said once the Dukes were out it would be nothing but the Starship so that should be out before the end of the year if things go to plan
I’ve loved the Starship since I was a child, especially that mass array of CRT displays, and I am unbelievably hyped for it
It’s really weird how nobody has done a good Starship for any flight sim before this but there is genuinely no better developer for it, I can only imagine what new features are going to come with it as well

does it work like irl with gps coords?
>>
>>477202331
No coords, you select the target with the usual targeting pod, ie. visually. This goes for all the GPS guided weapons in the mod. But they added another layer of zooming for the targeting pod, so you can easily select a vehicle from tens of kilometers away.

I was thinking into trying out DCS, but i don't own a joystick nor do i plan on ever getting one. Is it possible to play that game at any reasonable level with just mouse+keyboard? And if not, is there any similar game where it is possible?
>>
>>477215436
At the very least get a gamepad controller. You really want an analogue stick for smoother controls. With some of the aircraft you can literally tear off the wings with a sudden full flight stick input which is the result of using keyboard buttons.
DCS doesn't have mouse controls for flying, but if you really, really want to there are plenty of virtual joystick software out there that let you turn your mouse into a controller that can be used in DCS.

Anyway trial is free if you download it from the official site (and not Steam), so give it a shot.
>>
>>477215436
let me guess, you just want to see how it looks in VR?
had to think why somebody would want to get a flight simulator without flight simulator peripherals
you can fly the default free aircraft with either the mouse or keyboard, it will be somewhat awkward, but should be doable
somebody made a feature request in regards to these control schemes, and the developer basically said "we don't give a fuck about people who don't use joysticks."
I replied that this shit has been a feature of flight sims since the fucking beginning.
>>
>>477220758
>I replied that this shit has been a feature of flight sims since the fucking beginning.
No it hasn't. You couldn't play Jane's F-18 without a controller, and the devs back then said the exact same thing. So fuck off.

Been doing some rotorops generated missions. I've completed this escort mission a few different times and keep getting the fratricide message despite no friendly fire during the entire conflict. Pour through the logs on 3 different 1.5 hour+ missions, zero friendly fire. Finally filter through the events to see that when I'm shot down (random triggered zsu that catches you on spawn), MY OWN hellfires count as fratricide when I crash. I'm guessing because they're armed or something? Everything in dcs outside the cockpit is embarrassing.
>>
SU15 never fucking EVER
>>
>>477510182
At what point do you get the message?
>>
>>477511429
Oddly, you don't get it until you've completed the mission (or given up). I've watched the track files, sorted logs and even watched tacview just to make sure, no friendly fire other than my chopper crashing (at which point it lists all of the remaining hellfies as "hits" on my own vehicle. One mission I had 3 left, another I had 2 left, both times it counted them as hits on my own aircraft. Pretty stupid shit.
>>
>>477511623
Have you started and then instantly given up to see if it still says the same?
>>
>>477513252
Yeah, even started and cratered to see if it would produce the result. No luck. It seems to only happen after combat/triggers happen. Though I'm not sure if I armed/was'd the weapons before I crashed on purpose. I'll have to try that later as well. It's just so annoying to finish a 2 hour mission successfully just to see that stupid error and have the results taken from you.

I think they went bust, which I find odd because they sold tonnes and were very popular.

I'm doing the same with t16000m, something about having to twist the joystick during flight doesn't seem right, especially on approach it's the last thing I want to do.

wonder if they released kola early because ED urgently needs money

It's because it's from the same guys at razscam that "made" SA.

Folks ! Hope we are well. Taking a break from that rather large user campaign I've been playing. Thought I'd do a pilot career in a good old IL-2. Been doing some ground attack.. First couple of campaigns were a pain in the arse till we started flying the field modded ones with the gunners in. Still doesn't stop you getting a hole in your arse from AA. Still have no clue how bombing works in 1946 with the IL-2s. At least in Great Battles you'd line the crosshair up with the lines painted on the nose... worked great in VR.. Just eyeballing it really. Keith

New Zealand bush trip assigned me the G950 cockpit version so not quite as classy looking
>>
>>477725076
I still do not know what is the point of bush trips with glass cockpit, isn't the point to navigate visually?
>>
>>477727812
yeah it's a bit odd they didn't use the gps-less planes more, I think there's just one or two
Also thought it was odd the bush trip section of the flight training activities uses the Icon A5 and is about water takeoffs/landings, while none of the bush trips use that plane or any water planes

I've yet to upgrade my old 980ti but have a beast of everything else, on Blackbird's site it's recommending 8gb minimum VRAM for the porter, is that just because of the glass cockpits? I'd love to get it but don't want it to run like arse.
>>
>>477751615
dunno I just have the one that comes with MSFS
>>
>>477751698
Ah right I think that one is a bit basic in comparison so probably runs fine.
>>

I love that nowhere on that list is "improve the dreadful on-rails flight models". Screenshot simulator indeed.
>>
I wasn't really all that hyped for the phantom but this actually looks pretty cool.

>>
>>477758360
The funny thing is the aerodynamic modeling in MSFS is actually really complex. Like they are actually continuously simulating packets of air being affected by props and the wing. The problem is the calculations when you get out of profile become too hard and the system falls apart. So you end up with worse flight dynamics than spagget LUA scripting.
>>
>>
>>477746939
the route is pre-programmed into the gps though so it's not just map, it's map with a bright magenta line showing where to fly, you can't get lost, you could fly these bush flights entirely IFR, defeating the purpose
>>
>>477758360
>dreadful on rails flight models
You’ve obviously never flown in a MS flight sim before MSFS
Or you’re some XPlane faggot who thinks getting constantly thrown about by that spastic flight model is realistic
>>
>>477762129
>>477784336
X-plane is a CFD flight model same as NASA uses, it literally doesn't get more realistic than that
>>
>>477784628
And yet it still somehow feels completely retarded compared to a real plane
MSFS feels the most well balanced out of any sim, even though it’s obviously not true to life either
>>
>>477784874
well, austin disagrees
x-plane exists solely to satisfy his autism of how it feels to sim his irl plane
>>
>>477786526
And Austin is a spastic who can’t optimize his game worth a damn

What the hell are you even trying to say here?
I've played flight simulator since 2.0. I've never tried X-Plane. MSFS20's flight models are trash compared to DCS.
>>
>>477784874
>MSFS feels the most well balanced out of any sim
DCS has the best flight model for any non-commercial/millitary simulator, but probably not much fun for a civvie.

I've been brainstorming a machinima sort of thing with my mate for 1946, going for a comedy of sorts. Since we're kiwis we'll probably focus mostly on us getting up to no good in the pacific/south east asia
Still not sure about the tone, whether to go for complete comedy or to keep it grounded somewhat
The biggest challenge is actually figuring out how to script it. Since a mission itself can be pretty random in its outcome, i guess the best course is to build maybe a framework of a script around it, play the mission, and then maybe write most of the dialogue around that
>>
>>477832756
I got 3k views on a DCS video
I'm so happy
>>
>>477811843
There's nothing realistic about the FM in Xplane, or MSFS. The only other sim that comes close to realistic flight modeling to DCS is RoF

I literally fly nothing but the warbirds over the Nevada map 99.9% of the time and simply pretend I'm a multi millionaire warbird owner.

I'd kill for another US state to fly over. Something on the east coast, Florida, Virginia, something with a NAS to justify it.
