If you mean Legendaries, it depends. If you play with the modifier that makes training way slower, then yes. If you play without modifiers, then they're worth it if you have a specific plan for one of them (Like picking Len early game for Teacher+Old XP bonus). Otherwise they're there for more fun options and flavor, but not the "meta" choice. You will quickly discover that you will be drowning in money by late game and be able to afford to hire 15 mercs, many of them legendary (protip: you can go over this threshold with free mercs)

If you mean Elite, absolutely. That roster is full of badasses. Nails is my personal favorite. And many people that do the solo challenge beat the game with just Ivan for example.
>>
>>476278029
Yeah mostly asking about elites. When I get the cash I'll check em out, so far I've been enjoying my cheap bums. My favorite so far is Ice and Steroid for the funny factor

Ice is hilarious with his special ability. Probably highest single target damage in the game?

Tex is incredible with Dance for Me and shotguns. The only real dud in Elite category is Red. The only way you can make use of his gimmick is by building him in such a way that he uses heavy armor and tanks all the shots, so he can keep throwing grenades at everyone for free. It's not very good. Usually builds that don't care about getting shot at least are melee too, so they're generating Grit (temporary health). I'd probably pair him with Scully for the memes and extra health per turn.

>Quick question for any vets of this game, are expensive mercs worth the price?
Yes and no. They're not really as cost-efficient as some of the standout cheaper mercs, but once you got a good amount of money flowing in they can be pretty damn good. The old adage from earlier titles still holds true: Just because a merc is expensive doesn't mean he's the best.

>>476281149
Elite has almost no true bad picks. Lemme do a short effortpost.

Hitman: He's kinda eh as a frontliner, but a great pick for a rear-line squad that trains militia, runs logistics and helps defend places. Just give him an overwatch-build AR and put him in a good position so he won't have to move his ass for most of the fight.
Red: He's *THE* explosives guy other than Barry, actually kinda cheap (his one-time medical deposit makes up a huge chunk of his pricetag) and an absolute riot personality-wise.
Dr.Q: First-rate medic and melee monster. His special literally one-shots any enemy in the game.
Nails: First-rate explosives guy, monster shotgunner, secondary mechanic. All he needs is some agility training.
Tex: Okay, he's kind of a meme, but a hilarious one. Also his special can do silly things under the right circumstances.
Raider: Just a good mainline combatant and the singularily best squad leader and militia teacher in the game.
Vicky: Good combatant, absolute monster in close quarters with modded-out dual Glock 18s and the best mechanic in the game. Also brings a unique lockpick that can be repaired like normal gear.
Ivan: Just an absolute monster with any firearm you hand him. Can potentially chainkill entire encounters with a low-AP weapon.
>>
>>476281962
Red's gimmick isn't really why you hiire him IMO. He's there if you want a surprisingly cheap explosives guy and laugh at him being the grumpiest scotsman ever.
>>
>>476282286
>His special literally one-shots any enemy in the game
You might be misremembering. He applies Unconscious for a turn, and he needs to be disarmed to do it. It's nice, but it's not "one shots enemies including bosses" nice

>>476282529
I'm not knocking his flavor. I take everybody every once in a while for flavor (except JA3 Barry because he's incredibly boring, JA3 Barry can stay on the bench and just hand me shaped charges to use with other actually fun mercs thank you). It's just disappointing to see his special go unused basically forever unless you
A) feel like getting shot for no reason to meme
B) build him specifically to tank shots

Oh and another thing, since you are already familiar with the camera mode: You can use it to check for line of sight before you move to a position. The game models LoS very well for the most part. You will sometimes get surprised you got seen through something and sure enough there was a crack in the wall or something that permitted it.
>>
>>476285139
Oddly wild seeing a modern game doing this, while, 20 year ago, we expected this kinda TECHNOLOGY to be the norm today.
>>
Haven't touched JA3 since my first run when it came out, how have the the updates been? Thinking of starting up another run, afaik they've reached the end of their roadmap and there's nothing we're waiting on right? Any mods that you guys would recommend to spice things up?
>>
>>476282875
Erm, dude? Unconscious lasts a lot longer than one turn.
>>
>>476288468
Does it? I'm not sure if difficulty would affect this or anything else, I'm talking Mission Impossible. I don't remember it ever lasting more than a turn and I can't check at the moment
>>
>>476288771
It lasts the same regardless of difficulty. Like, I had Dr. Q on MI spending like 3 turns punching Bonecrusher to death in the fightclub after applying the effect.
>>
>>476289315
Lol, well then, I stand corrected.
>>
>>476289494
Ah, you know what? I mixed it up with Knockdown. That's the one that lasts one turn, like when you throw a flashbang right under someone's feet.

Never understood why grenade launcher flashbangs didn't do the same. Probably an oversight

Just shoot a random civilian I guess. That'll get you in a spicy fight

In seriousness though you should be getting ambushed by bandits somewhat frequently during travel. Plus the actual quests themselves. I don't remember it as a game where you don't fight a lot, that's for sure

Killing the squad that moves towards Biff when his event starts allows you to just safely ignore him for an indefinite period of time right? I've already killed the squad and left to do other shit until I felt like progressing but I just wanted to check and make sure.

Mods make doom a tactical shooter, mods can make fallout a tactical shooter.
>>
you know what else is tactical?
*spreads ass*
>>
*examines ur ass*
I don't see it
>>
>>476366635
The issue with both of those games being modified into a pseudo tac shooter is that the base gameplay is still apparent. The AI (in doom's case) is basic for obvious reasons, and the AI in bethesda games are basic and dogshit because they were designed to be RPGs first and not tactical shooters first. The infrastructure also isn't there for fallout to support multiplayer properly, because even with official or modified releases of fallout, the networking is a joke. The game engine functions very poorly in single player scenarios, even. Trying to fill any gaps will leave you with a mediocre experience, and it becomes more of a barbie-doll simulator than an actual game.

It's complicated because I use a now deleted modlist (Lost World) that came with a lot of custom patches and tweaks to make the collection feel cohesive and all the documentation got nuked so even if I export the list you won't be able to just replicate it. So you'll have to duct tape what interests you on your own.

I really dislike this trend of voicing everything with AI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZAI1yCYN-c

Is it really so fucking hard to get the guy that speaks english best in the dev team to talk about the game. Or failing that, just use text on the screen. Even Microsoft Sam would be better, because at least it's not pretending to be something it's not

Is that really a thing? I never hear it, but I'm not watching normie content or fake news bullshit either, so that's probably me. Not to be a slight or anything, just trying to explains why I never hear it.
Either way, I'd expect this more of RoN, seeing they're using AI art all over the game as is already.

>The AI (in doom's case) is basic for obvious reasons
HD almost completely replaces vanilla monster behavior and gives each enemy distinct routines that often play into their means of attack. Generally speaking, where vanilla Doom enemies are omniscient once alerted, HD enemies only know your approximate location based on where they last saw or heard you. With the right moves, you can misdirect them and execute meaningful flanks. In vanilla Doom the facing of an enemy doesn't really matter at all and they'll simply instantly turn to you to attack wherever you are. Get behind a spider mastermind in HD and it will need time to turn around before it can shoot at you, or if you start attacking it it'll just fire blindly out of reflex because it doesn't even know that you're behind it (this behavior helps it counter corner-peekers and would-be wallbangers as well, because its gun is capable of significant overpenetration). The only thing "basic" about the enemy behaviors is that the mod sticks to the original Doom sprites so it doesn't have zombies doing action rolls or anything like that. In strict gameplay terms they're very complex and responsive, well above what's typical even for tactical shooters. They're not just player bots with limited access to cheats, they're enemies designed to fill specific roles and they have weaknesses in accordance with those roles.

Enemies can flank you in 7.62?
>stumble on bandits
>my main guy(skirmisher, gunfighter, shotgunner) doesn't have a good shot so he sprints across open ground to draw fire from their smgmen who surely can't be that accurate
>my other guy who actually has accuracy in aimed/sniping sneaks around to ready up an outstanding aimed shot from a better vantage
>my sniper stumbles on another enemy also trying to flank
>get into a shootout there while my shotgunner pivots to charge the now attempting to converge on my flanker smg-men I was attempting to flank in the first place
>short range shotgun makes quick work out of them before they can turn my way while my sniper has his head down
This is pretty god damn cool.
>>
>>476435428
Also one of my favorite moves to do in the game is open up the aim window while sneaking up on two enemies with a quick to ready gunfighting weapon and just alternate shots between the two while they're too shocked to do anything.

>don't have my weapons equipped
>paquito goes down to two different attackers while my main shotgunner charges into cover, taking down one bandit in the process, circling back and taking out the guy who shot paquito
>more bandits approaching, two shotgun shells left but I have a backup pistol and another shotgun shouldered
>play chicken with them, use good positioning and preperation to take on four raiders flanking from two different spots, dropping my shotgun and then quickfiring with the pistol, and then dropping that and switching to the last shotgun once it runs out of ammo
>hide behind containers, know that I'm going to be attacked from two sides

It's honestly kiiinda cheaty anyway because that technology (internally delivered extra cooling) is invented in the lore waaaaaay after the videogame takes place (3122)
https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Radical_Heat_Sink_System
The "low-tech" coolant flush they would've had available was delivered basically by firetrucks spraying it externally on the 'Mech. Then again, Overriding shutdowns was also a thing that had to have its own dedicated thing invented (~3080's?).

Both things are retroactively added to the vidya in the early eras because they make for fun gameplay
>>
>>476477432
>~3080's?
Nope, more like ~3130's my bad
https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Heat_Sink_Override_Kit
And also before that it actually still was in the game, it was just a skill check, so nevermind that part

Playing Zero Hour with a friend since it was on sale for cheap. It seems like a fairly okay SWAT/tactical shooter terrorist hunt kind of game which is mainly what we wanted.
Is RoN or Gronch more of that if we like this?
>>
>>476480978
Gronch for free-form military style, as it doesn't have structured missions yet. Just choose your gear with no need to unlock anything, choose what time and where to deploy with what objectives, and have at it

RoN for structured police style missions. Probably better to try SWAT 4 with mods if you haven't yet, and then try RoN

Took me a while but I finally did it, really wish there was a real time replay system ala Doorkickers.
>surrounded on two fronts, so I sneak both of my guys for a lower profile and book it to the empty front
>there's a guy still unaware we're here, take him out with a shotgun
>my guys hear someone approaching a corner, have my SMG fire bursts of 4 into where anyone might quickturn in while my shotgunner readies his aim and prepares weapon for a very quick shot in the event that they do come out in the open
>guy quickturns into four pph shots and then a brutal point blank shotgun blast
>can't dally, being chased by at least four fuckers
>park my pph guy into a very tight angle with a warehouse, aim and get ready to receive anyone showing up, meanwhile have my shotgunner enter the warehouse and exit out the other way to flank them from behind
>one guys pops out of the corner, goes down immediately to a burst
>three guys left, two wait around the corner for me to pop my head out while the third's on his way to hide behind a nearby pillar
>my shotgunner's in place, two quick shots take both the guys waiting behind the wall down, my PPH guy shifts aim to suppress the guy behind the pillar
>he has a shotgun so I have my shotgunner switch to a sidearm and tactical step his way to the guy hiding behind the pillar and shoot him dead
>two guys left, one's a named character who kept headshotting me in previous attempts
>he's going around the long way of the warehouse, I move my PPH guy to shoot bursts through the closed doors to try and slow him down, one shot apparently got his arm
>sprint my shotgunner quickly before the guy regains his senses and shoot him dead
>then double back and pincer the last remaining SMG guy to capture the base

Would be fun against a player who is equally as clueless as me, AI just shits all over me. But it is cool so far.
>enemy has massive tank army
>send in suicide commando mission to cut off their energy pipelines and destroy their storage facilities
>soon enough see their tanks come to a crawl
It is nice seeing logistics play a part.
But then the AI hits me with massive combined arms assault and I am too slow to react even though it is a slow paced game to begin with. Just an overwhelming amount of units (without any handicaps, AI has same economy rules as me)
>>
>>476570505
Authentic Plus is the hardest difficulty in the game. There's no hud, no checkpoints so if you die you restart the whole level, the enemies spot you faster, they do more damage and they never stop searching for you if you were "discovered". Also, the sniping becomes harder because there's no aim assist.

You can cheat the "no checkpoint" by manually saving through the missions but I didn't do it because there's a trophy that you can get by not saving during an Authentic Plus campaign.

cockpit "glass" is a material that can be described as transparent composite. it is similar to the regular armor mounted on the rest of the vehicle, just mildly weaker.
it handles most of the glancing blows the cockpit will receive, only very strong weapons can immediately penetrate it with a lucky shot.
there are mechs with cockpits entirely secluded inside the torso, but they come with piloting and gunnery penalties, among a few other things.

How do I level up in Blue Sun? It's not in the field radio and I can't find anything that actually lets me see my character stats besides the accuracy stuff on the bottom left.
Got caught into a nasty ambush, alone. I've understood just how terrible my aim is and honestly I feel bad for being a quicksaving little bitch but I try to limit it to little engagements in combat and saving between the pauses but I managed to do it all after a while.
Also, what does a foregrip do? What calibre of gun should I be picking? This is a bit too much on the side of gun autism for my liking.

missiles are dangerous, but it's more that it's actually feasible to create a system that intercepts them.
LRMs can cause constant, significant damage from long range, and they are even capable of indirect fire. SRMs are one of the most efficient short ranged weapons that exist.
AMS is very light and generates almost no heat, it most benefits many heavier mechs that cannot avoid fire. if your oppoenents bring missiles, an AMS is effectively extra armor, it can also cover nearby friendly mechs against missiles.

Missiles, in particular LRMs, dont do tons of damage individually but add up quickly and tend to sandpaper off armor. Especially in the IS where there's basically no weapons that can counter engage an LRM at max range.

They're not really a primary weapon, but a 10 pack is relatively small and light and can let you harass or engage people without getting fired back at.

So I’ve started playing through Quasimorph game. It’s pretty detailed, the healing system is akin to Escape from Tarkov as the game uses a limb system, along with burns, infections, poison, etc. you can hack off body parts/ skin, and collect feces if you wish. On the other hand it’s very brutal and you will probably end up killing yourself more than once. Cover is a little broken, it can come in handy or end up being your demise.

I still need to play a bit more, but so far it’s a very interesting take on the “roguelite” genre, even though I’d consider it more like an extraction rpg. I haven’t tried all classes, and definitely haven’t used enough guns to make an opinion on them. Has anyone played through Quasimorph?

Sounds like you need to get a shotgun
>>
>>476700919
I have two, it still didn't help in the single man ambush I was so stupid to get myself into.
Paquito doesn't even need to go to the hospital, he was at like 80% health and I ended up spending 60% of the 12k reward I got from the army base mission that injured him towards that, which in turn resulted in the ambush I just barely scraped out of with a winchester and MP5 sigkx whatever it's fucking called.
>>
>>476701083
I mean the problem there isn't your weapon or specialization choice then, so much as getting jumped while alone

I remember early game shotgun solo is very doable in Hard Life because enemies are barely armored, and the buckshot spread reaaaaally fucks them up. But yeah being able to pick your engagements is crucial

I remember there were some game options in the menu that had to do with injuries and medical stuff. You could try fiddling with those. When I first played, I think I picked one that lets you heal even serious wounds with first aid yourself (instead of requiring a hospital/clinic). Game's already ball busty enough as it is
>>
>>476701593
I think the most difficult part about the game are the controls and QoL. In that ambush there was a cliff I booked it towards and just so luck would have it, there was an entire other part to the cliff I could have easily moved to and sniped from there, or circled back down and snuck around that ambush, or have had a better vantage point to attack from or even just see where the enemies are and toss a grenade or two, but because of the camera(I can't be fucked to keep retyping FreeCamera True and for some reason it changes everyone's names to CHEATER until I reload a quicksave) and the UI itself(showing that there's no path unless it's in a very specific place) and just generally fucking around with the camera, constantly checking if the information that the HUD's telling me is actually contradicting the actual information in game(reloading from a box stored in my pouches should apparently take 1.60s according to the HUD, but actually takes 13 seconds because my guy keeps re-arranging shit for the first 8 or so seconds, needing to go into first person and the aim view in order to ensure that "potentially blocked" doesn't actually mean that a single hair on the opposing bald merc is visible and the rest of him is obscured by a large cliff, if anything the first person/aim modes have really opened my eyes up to why aim in TBTs is so shit because distances are really tricky when looking at it in an isometric view versus in actual first person) and just a lot of micromanagement that isn't too obvious from the start(needing to manually check fire times with/without the stock folded, trying to figure out accuracy comparison as a number versus accuracy as the diagrams, multiple clicks to get to the meat of what caliber does what in terms of damage and penetration(because apparently high penetration is terrible against unarmored targets), it's great but it has a lot about it that's overwhelming.
Is this what CRPGs are like but fantasy?

ah damn, I am certain there's a way to fix this in a config file somewhere, but I can't remember where. If I find it I'll let you know. I played the whole game with FreeCamera true and no cheater name change, so I just didn't run into camera frustrations

>reloading from a box stored in my pouches should apparently take 1.60s according to the HUD, but actually takes 13 seconds because my guy keeps re-arranging shit for the first 8 or so seconds
Now that's interesting. Can you take a screenshot of your inventory real quick? I'm curious what the issue is. You can set things up in such a way that some common actions like reloading are very speedy, so I wonder what's going wrong

>apparently high penetration is terrible against unarmored targets
Well yeah. If the bullet just goes right clean through somebody it's much less destructive than if it stays in and fucking explodes in there shredding everything. That's why hollow points are a thing

However, the general point that the game is janky is extremely right. However, the amount of depth the game offers is such that I was completely willing to stick with it because it offered things that basically no other RTT I've played has even dreamed of implementing. I guess that's what happens when you start going a little crazy on the features. But it's not for everyone that's for sure

I've now shot a thirty round burst. Attempting to reload, the action bar tells me I have 11 seconds to go when nothing in the HUD would give me an indication otherwise.
Also, when it comes to double taped mags, is there a way to manually reload/switch to the other magazine so that I can fire full bursts again instead of needing to reload in the middle of it? Say I'm at 31 rounds, I'd like to go to the box mag with 30 rounds in it instead of the one with 1 round in it.
>>
>>476703551
Oh. Well yeah immediately there you have an issue. Repacking a magazine out of a box of bullets takes a long ass time. You wanna have more magazines ready in your pocket/pouches, you really don't want to repack mags in the middle of a fight. The only way loose ammo works is if you're doing like revolvers, shotguns, or bolt-action rifles.
>>476703792
That's a good question, I don't remember. Doesn't the game treat jungle mags as one big mag anyway?

It could be Hard Life adds a manual reload for the right click menu of those guns with jungle mags in them, so that you're not stuck in those situations with 1 bullet in one and 30 in the other. Or that 7.62 itself has some way of doing that. I can't recall

More detailed and responsive weapon handling and feedback primarily. The guns in the original game feel pretty stiff after playing the Beyond demos. Lots more mobility too, with more to come still. Act 3 introduced a high jump, act 4 introduces air dashes and a temporary jetpack, and act 5 is looking to add wallrunning on top. Just about everything that was in the first game is refined and better executed in Beyond.

Note that battlezone 98 redux is currently 85% off, including a bundle with the red odyssey DLC that's somehow cheaper than just buying the game itself.

The same discount applies for Battlezone Combat Commander as well.
The DLC For 98 redux is super expensive so I recommend buying 98 Redux Odyssey Edition for both 98 and the DLC, and then buying the bundle containing 98 and Combat Commander so you can save like an additional 5% on top of the existing discount.

it was improved in a slight way - sprites in the original game would face the player, the common pitfall for sprite-based FPS games on modern engines - looks awful, especially when you get close to a sprite and move around it and what's supposed to be an inanimate object follows you around
sprites in the sequel face the camera, more accurately to doom and other games of the period
it would be nice to have actual rotations but i know how much work that is so i don't blame the dev for not doing it

it's not a position that surprises me, given that people have been trying and failing to make doom tactical ever since it was new, starting with the US marines themselves
where HD differs from those past projects is in port advancements that have allowed for pretty much complete decoupling from vanilla doom logic and rules and massive development time allowing for such in-depth mechanics and thoroughly fleshed out weapon and enemy rosters
the minimalist approach to aesthetics has also helped to keep bloat in check compared to other projects that can't help themselves and feel compelled to throw in every single weapon and monster they can find sprites for and recoloring them to add even more

My problem isn't even the UI or anything like that, just the movement, camera and speed of the fights. The game is obviously not as snappy compared to modern CRPGs or turn based games in general. playing well in MWO is mostly following around the team and having an innate sense of when to attack, when to hold and when to retreat.
the first step towards making cool builds is finding a weapon you like and a mech that goes well with that weapon.
six machineguns probably isn't a good idea on a king crab, six UAC/2s is.
certain weight classes may also be incompatible with you, I've played for ten years and I didn't regularly use anything lighter than 100 tons until 2023.
>>
>>476837137
How 'bout the grind and insane monetization practices I heard about?
>>
>>476835770
MWO is a glorified deathmatch game, sadly. There's not that much to it
MWLL is where it's at, but the absolute best you can hope for is 30 people playing together once a blue moon
>>
>>476837456
the grind depends on what kind of mechs you like. the game goes by in-universe prices, so IS light mechs are laughably cheap, clan assault mechs are extremely expensive.
the cadet bonuses(acquired from just playing 25 games) will provide you with a bunch of premium time, a bunch of random shit and enough C-bills to buy at least one example of the most expensive non-premium mechs in the game. the cost to outfit them depends on how much the stock variant differs from your optimal vision.
if you're grinding c-bills from scratch, without premium time, a very light mech may take 4-10 decent games to buy, a 100 ton clan assault mech may take 75-100. it doesn't really feel like grinding in a mech you like to play, there are no vehicle tiers or tech trees to grind through.
the monetization isn't really intrusive, much less annoying than anything you'd encounter in world of tanks or war thunder. premium variants are just mechs with unusual weapon hard points, almost all of them range between worse than what you can buy for regular currency and questionably better.
>>
>>476838998
>4-10 DECENT games for light and 75-100 for clan shit
>No tech tree bullshit either
That's sounds pretty alright then, thanks for the "decent" note too since that's quite important. Big difference if you have to win 50 times or just have a "decent round", whatever that implies. WoT and WT being great comparison points for this of course.
>>
>>476839196
"decent" does sort of depend on what your weight class is. it is arguably easier, but still possible in lighter mechs, to do more damage when you're in a very heavy mech that can mount a lot of weaponry. I do occasionally see a light mech managing to get 1000 damage games.
I can only tell you that a 600 damage(rarely do worse than that) loss in a 100 ton mech usually gets me 150,000 c-bills, a win usually gets me 225,000. most IS assault mechs cost between 7,000,000 and 10,000,000. so, fail consistently 66 times and you'll still have earned enough to get one of the most expensive IS mechs money can buy.
premium time, which you will receive quite a bit of from starting and participating in regular events, increases your c-bill earnings by 50%.
>>
>>476840081
That sounds a lot better than I expected, but I'm used to the insane bullshit that is WoT/WT and other Grind to Play of old.
I have no clue about BattleTech, so excuse this retarded question. Is there anything akin to "support builds" or other special stuff, or does everything simply come down to deathmatch as the other anon mentioned? Curious if there is more to it beyond "Kill this thing in short or long ranged battles".
Is that incremental mech skill tree shit still a thing? Saw that being a thing years ago, feeling insanely pointless.
>>
>>476840442
there are ways to aid your team without being directly involved in combat, but a good player will always fight when the circumstances are favorable for his mech and build.
AMS seen here
>>476650002
will shoot down missiles nearby your mech, allowing you to also provide anti-missile coverage for nearby teammates. a select few mechs can mount up to four of them, providing an almost impenetrable shield against most variants of missile.
guardian ECM will hinder enemies trying to lock on to you and nearby teammates, it can also be switched to counter nearby ECM.
a TAG laser can be trained on an enemy mech, countering ECM and speeding up missile locks on that target from any teammate.
a NARC pod can be fired at enemy mechs, attaching itself to the enemy and allowing teammates to track and lock on to them as if they were in direct line of sight of a teammate for a limited time.
UAVs can be quickly deployed, relaying the positions and allowing locks on all nearby enemy mechs for quite a while.
TAGs, UAVs and NARCs are most effective on stealthy light mechs that can move into positions that allow such equipment to nullify some cover enemies may be attempting to use.
LRMs(long range missiles) are weapons almost exclusively relegated to support, not suitable direct combat. I must encourage you to never use them, they are not efficient under any circumstances.
>>
>>476841315
>>476840442
oh, and the skills. they're still present, they've been reworked a number of times. I wouldn't worry too much about them, the difference between a new mech and a fully skilled mech is like 10-30%, they're an extra investment you put into mechs you like and use a lot.

what about PPC's? Those are a kind of "laser" right? How are they different?
>>
>>476977417
No. Go play koth or wait for the power grid/freebuild update next year
>>
>>477000858
PPCs are energy weapons, so they generate a lot of heat and have infinite ammo, but they are not lasers, they are entirely their own thing.
PPCs fire high velocity balls of plasma-lightning-stuff. some of them deal zero damage below a certain range, some do not. most of them are long ranged sniping weapons, sort of like energy gauss rifles.
they follow the standard energy rules of lighter variant=fires faster, shorter range, less damage, less heat. snub nose PPCs are an exception, in that they're a relatively fast firing, medium sized, short ranged variant. plasma cannons are effectively light PPCs, but they also induce a small amount of heat in targets they hit.
they also usually briefly disrupt electronic systems in vehicles they hit.
>>
>>477002338
So for example what things do you consider when doing a long ranged energy build?
When is a Large/ER/Heavy Laser a better sniper than a PPC? Is it kind of like "former for pure damage, latter for debuffing and damage?"

ER lasers are the only suitable lasers for "long range", everything else is relatively short ranged. they're very niche and rarely taken over PPCs.
ER lasers require you to stare at your target for a sustained period, usually not a good thing when they're shooting back. PPCs fire immediately, they allow you to pop in and out of cover very quickly, minimizing exposure.
ER lasers are better for sustained fire and accurately tracking targets. PPCs require you to lead targets and are better for irregular attacks.
high mounted hard points are a very positive trait for any sniper. the less of your mech you need to expose to fire, the less time it takes for you to move into and out of cover. the better.
mechs will have certain quirks that benefit, survivability, mobility, and firepower. mechs with quirks that benefit energy weapons in particular are preferable, but not required.
smaller, more mobile mechs are usually better snipers. assault snipers can work, but it requires favorable circumstances, very careful positioning, and foresight. an assault's heavy armor and firepower will also be dearly missed by his team if he's sitting at the back plinking instead of participating in the main brawl.
snipers are usually very vulnerable at close range, but certain builds can still function as dangerous brawlers. ER lasers are almost impossible to effectively use for brawling.

If you enjoy character building it's like crack. The game starts out relatively simple and tactical, but it turns into a beautiful clusterfuck of effects as the game goes on. Every character and enemy in the game has a board of masteries, which can do literally anything from raw stats to behaviour modification (like counterattacks or automatically moving towards enemies that damage you as an out of turn action) to outright giving you active skills like Overwatch. Then there are mastery sets from having specific combinations equipped that make them even crazier.
The final party size with all DLC is 12 characters and there are a couple of them that can summon drones and tamed beasts, and all of them end up with mastery boards stuffed with effects.
>>
>>477028423
What turns me off of this is that characters aren't allowed to die unless the story commands them to die

Having had the game crash on me again I'm getting a bit annoyed with High Calibre. Should I just switch to Hard Life? I've already finished a few ambushes with a single unit anyway and it seems like unlike my initial impressions, enemy AI is really easy to cheese with waiting them out at a corner and then circling around and flanking after a while. Maybe it's different in CGL 2 how that I've leveled up again.
>>
>>477055434
I seem to remember CGL1 AI being dumb as rocks and it improving (along with their gear) as CGL raised

But if you're annoyed then just switch to Hard Life yeah, it's more stable. Just be ready for another heap of complexity added on top. It has its own steam workshop too so that's nice. I believe the equivalent of Mercapoc is called GEG (Give everybody guns)
>>
>>477055828
Oh, so I just got lucky that these 1 unit ambushes happened on CGL 1 then.

>>
>>477056225
Hard Life is very customizable in terms of complexity but uncompromisingly low in handholding. A lot of people quit on the intro, you can skip it but you'll have even less direction. If you've played the HC you can catch up with the main story pretty easily and that gives you some guidance but it very much an open world merc simulator with a lot of choice and no real goal but staying alive and getting rich.

For the resident Mech Warrior Online player, how does killing a mech work? I get that parts have external armor, and internal structure. If I destroy the side torso's armor, then the side torso internal structure, will my shots "go through" the side torso and into the main body?
>>
>>477074456
damage done to a destroyed leg or destroyed arm's stub will bleed through into the armor of the connected side torso, then to its internal structure, then to the center torso's armor, then to the center torso's internal structure. this is highly inefficient, you will lose a lot of damage dealt as it hops from one component to the next.
damage dealt to internal structure has the chance of causing critical hits, which can damage or destroy weapons, equipment and ammunition. most ammo that has been destroyed by critical hits will begin cooking off, gauss rifles which have been destroyed by critical hits will explode like a small amount of ammunition.
ammo that begins cooking off in the side torso or leg will begin doing an extreme amount of damage to internal structure, first to the component it is in, then working its way to the center torso, often resulting in death. ammo in the arm goes with the arm when that component is destroyed.
CASE can be placed in a component with ammunition, CASE will prevent ammunition and gauss explosions from damaging parts outside of that component, that component will still be destroyed by any ammo explosion that occurs. clans use very efficient CASE that is equipped in all components for zero cost in crit space or weight.
destroying a mech is actually usually by causing engine destruction, since standard engines are in the center torso. IS XL engines are extremely bulky and take up space in the side torsos, so destroying a single side torso causes enough damage to the engine that the mech will immediately go down. IS light engines and clan XL engines are less bulky, requiring both side torsos to be destroyed to kill the engine.
a mech cannot be stand without legs, destroying both legs destroys the mech. people sometimes skimp on leg armor, because legs constantly move around and are a bit harder to hit than the torso.
the cockpit's destruction will obviously cause the pilot's death, effectively killing the mech.
>>
>>477076783
So even if I lose my arm and side torso, I should still use said side torso to block with?
>IS XL engines are extremely bulky and take up space in the side torsos, so destroying a single side torso causes enough damage to the engine that the mech will immediately go down. IS light engines and clan XL engines are less bulky, requiring both side torsos to be destroyed to kill the engine.
I knew you could kill some mechs with 1 side torso gone, but I didn't know you could kill mechs with both side torsos gone. But as you say, it's based on the engine they use, so I assume there are cases where you can lose both side torsos and still be standing?

yes

yes, IS and clan standard engines do not take up any space in the side torsos, so destruction of the side torsos alone cannot destroy the engine.
most mechs are effectively disarmed when both side torsos are destroyed, so a clan XL engine or IS light engine are objectively better than standard engines for most builds. IS XL engines make mechs very fragile, they are most often seen on light mechs that die if you let people shoot at them in the first place. standard engines are mostly used on specialized builds that cannot work with any of their side torso space being taken up by the engine.

Right now I'm just faffing about in a Hunchback 4G with an AC20 and 3 medium lasers, and I've been having a good time. AC20 is how I've gotten most of my (few) kills. It's got the default standard engine which is a little slow but at least the mech is kind of tanky. But you're saying I could put an IS light in here to make it faster and only die when both side torsos go? Would that be recommended? I think I'd have to give up some armor to do it.
>>
>>477087272
>but you're saying I could put an IS light in here and make it faster and only die when both side torsos go
yes
>would that be recommended
yes, you could drop one of the double heat sinks and have enough slots to use a light engine. you don't really benefit from being able to survive with your center torso alone with that build, so a light engine would greatly benefit you.
>>
>>477087852
What rating of engine should I get? Also should I get the light-ferrous armour? I'm a little unsure how the "critical space" the armor needs works. There doesn't seem to be anything on the parts telling me it's a critical armor slot for the light armor.
>>
>>477050976
it's definitely YAML they added 405 to 450 engine cores too
we're so back bros
>>
>>477088751
you should get the highest rating engine that your weight savings allow.
light ferro fibrous takes 7 slots, takes up a little less weight. IS ferro fibrous takes 14 slots, takes up even less weight. you could take off some heat sinks and go for some sort of ferro. it'll tell you how much weight is saved and slots are taken when you change it in the lab.
an extra heat sink is added to an engine every 25 rating points up to 250. an extra heat sink slot is added every 25 points above that.
>>
>>477091213
>an extra heat sink is added to an engine every 25 rating points up to 250. an extra heat sink slot is added every 25 points above that.
I remember reading something about that. This is my potential build. I haven't bought the light engine yet (or the light ferrous armor). It doesn't seem to require any additional heatsinks beyond the engine, and the mech runs extremely cool when firing the lasers, and pretty cool when firing everything continuously. If I have the double heatsink upgrade, does that make all the heatsinks in the engine double heatsinks too or are they still normal heatsinks? Seems like the double heatsink option isn't useful if you get a light engine on this mech. Still, it was good for the standard engine I guess.
>>
>>477092559
engine heat sinks are also upgraded to doubles. I genuinely cannot think of a build that benefits from single heat sinks, they're basically just flavor at this point.
>>
>>477093265
>engine heat sinks are also upgraded to doubles.
Oh wow, I wasn't expecting that. Yeah with that engine, my Hunchback runs as fast as my clan Cougar, which I guess I can't change the engine on sadly. Does the Hunchback loadout seem reasonable or is there something you'd change?
>>
>>477093972
does the 4G have quirks specific to the regular AC/20? I'd probably use an ultra AC/20 if it doesn't.
many clans are "omnimechs", so a lot of their equipment, such as engines, sometimes jump jets and heat sinks, cannot be changed or removed, but they can swap out their side torsos and arms for different variants.
not all clan mechs are omnimechs. IS omnimechs exist, but are not featured in MWO.
>>
I hate to admit this but my friend was right I'm glad my first play through had YAML and other mods
now that I'm 30-40 hours into the game I can see how much less fun and boring the game would have been without the YAML customization and all the other mods that adds new missions and biomes
MW5 is fun but it's lacking on some departments so mods are pretty much necessary even if it'll make things complicated for a new player
>>
>>477095729
According to the quirks, it the 4G variant gives the AC20 specifically a bit more range, velocity, and lower cooldowns. I'm reading the UAC20 fires 3 shots instead of the AC20's 1-shot, and that each should does roughly 6.5 damage? I guess the crit chance makes this thing a lot stronger, because each "pellet" has a chance to crit?
>>
>>477096696
a UAC's advantage over a regular arutocannon is that it can be fired an extra time before it fully reload, effectively doubling the firepower, but it might jam in doing so.

people have horrible mentals in online games and it becomes clearer the more often i play.
when i started online gaming in 2005 most gamers were nerds or regular guys playing with their friends. nowadays everybody does nothing but cry non-stop in online games. it becomes impossible to play anything online without witnessing a series of mental breakdowns every single game.

NTA but it's very solid. Has a bunch of quality of life additions like more control over your base layout, more comprehensive ui layouts so less jank in terms of getting your soldiers sorted out in the hangars and landers.
I can see it replacing the 2d games and variants once it releases for me, which is supposed to be at the end of this year at the earliest. But with however many bugs and combat bugs are fixed, there's still a few bugs that creep their way in which I'm not sure how much of it is EA jank and how much of it is engine.
I would very much NOT recommend picking it up right now though, much like an EA title its very much not polished and content just isn't there yet, and the latest stuff that is pushed out has some huge issues and general game breaking bugs that are then later (slowly) fixed since the game works im major devcycle updates instead of regular ones.
Even on release I might say to hold off for a while because the mod tools will be out by then and anything that is janky by the games standard like not being a fan of the progression or instant grenades, mods will usually stamp it out.
tl:dr good promising game, slowest dev team of all time, don't buy right now until its ironed out and released. It's really not worth trying in it's current state for the price it's asking.

No, they don't stay in your army. In fact, you don't even get their gear if you punctured them with it. >>477152904

>>
>>477153994
The game discourages this cheese by adding a morale penalty for retreat. If you keep doing it and your men became unhappy enough they could quit on you for being a massive pussy

And it would take ages to soften this camp with bows and arrows anyway, since the front enemies are well armored and getting close enough to hit the backline would put you at risk of getting rushed. If you got closer to use crossbow bolts, throwing weapons, and guns, good job now you're locked in melee with armored unholds and have to actually fight

In conclusion: you can in theory soften camps and come back later, but this particular tactic would be completely ineffective as you'd be doing too little damage per go and morale would quickly fuck you

Anyway I lost a good bro, but the loot was good so, worth. We were outnumbered 2:1, so I think this was a positive outcome

So far I really like it a lot over Knight's Tale
>Lots of the fluff management stripped out which I'm glad because I hated most of it. Fuck training, fuck cathederals/hospices(All of your guys are undead so they just have Vitality, no health. If they die in battle they get resurrected after a fight is over with 1 hp and after a mission is done they heal back to full health). You have six characters and six party members, no recruitable bullshit and each character corresponds to a class. So far I'm digging all of them but for a Vanguard your MC is pretty weirdly built, no stealth abilities or anything but instead he gets debuffs, a buff of his own, a really powerful jumping attack and deployable blockades.
The game started off much more difficult but now that I have a few skills under me it's getting more manageable and I'm considering bumping the difficulty.
Also there's this cool mechanic called Lars, six statues you can find in missions and bring back to your hub. You activate one to get a boost or a change to a mechanic while getting a debuff. For example I have something that replaces my reserve AP option with a buff that instantly gives me +3 AP, but next turn I have -3AP. There's a second statue I unlocked that lets me deal fire damage on everything but if my guys aren't near a burning enemy they get chilled for less AP.

I dig it but Knight's Tale didn't pull you in, this really won't do much for you.

One thing I loved about MW2:Mercs is how missions often had branching paths. Sometimes, winning every battle in a contract wasn't the best outcome. And failing a bunch wasn't necessarily game over. Sometimes failing some objectives could net you different rewards and alternate battles later down the tree.

It is extremely fun. Orders of magnitude more so than MWO. Install LL, drive around in a server to get the hang of it, and join when people are most active. It's the kind of game you can't exactly play whenever, you have to show up when there's people. You can join their d*scord if you want to be notified

well, MWO and MWLL are free, those aren't really much of a commitment, but MWO actually has enough players at any one point to get a full lobby in a minute or so.

How common is this in Long War? It's the first month, on Normal
>>
>>477299078
Not uncommon. Large Landed UFO in March is hardcoded, whether it happens within your controlled area is up to chance. And having two splashed UFOs to raid isn't rare either

If you are a newbie, the Large Landed might be rough to deal with, so you can safely ignore it if you want. They are just gathering resources. If you are more daring, you can go raid it and get massively ahead of the curve by looting tons of resources and setting the ayys back a bunch in the strategic game. The top players might actually skip it, because they think it makes the game too easy to get ahead that early. Funny how that works, it's kind of like a bell curve.

>>477316332
the short engagement ranges are a combination of needing to fit weapon range into a reasonable amount of space on a physical surface(a table that everyone has to play the tabletop game on) and the lore explanation of "everything's equipped with so much passive ECM that targeting computers can't really hit anything better than a human eyeballing it".
things like LRMs and such might have a lock when you fire them, but they have a higher chance to fail to track as they cover distance and pass through all the ECM.
the translation from an abstract turn-based tabletop game to a real time first person shooter requires compromise and causes errors.
>>
>>477102925
That is good to know, currently having a blast with xenonauts 1 at the moment. Turns out I should just play it slow and don't take night missions if possible.

>>477305485
It's not as convenient to shoot from cover in a giant mech with mostly fixed weapons. The only workable examples are ankle biters with arm weapons (which would be better served running circles around the target biting ankles), indirect fire missile boats, or poptart snipers. It's just a different combat meta when you can safely an alpha strike to the face or move fast enough to never get hit by anything big enough to kill you with it.

Once again the worst fucking part about this game is the Seelie and Unseelie fights.
It sure is fun spawning in at just the right amount of tiles away for the enemy ranged units to absolutely fuck your ass in half while your melee guys can't do shit because there's no cover anywhere.
It sure fun fighting 20 fucking ranged units that hit you twice so your ignore three attacks tank skill and your 5 range taunt skill can't do anything because they're miles away at a time because LE EBIN ILLUSIONARY ENEMIES that die in one hit but they won't tell you which so good luck making use of your already limited ranged skills.
It sure is fun facing numerous 170 health ranged enemies with huge damage that can't be engaged(if a melee unit is nearby ranger units should have their damage reduced significantly), poisoned to lower their damage, knocked back or knocked down.
It sure is fun having literal joke skills like Scorpio, 8 automatic overwatches that deal a whopping 5 damage per hit but it can pierce armor, truly amazing! And the pallisades, a whole two pieces of full cover that don't do anything because the seelie/unseelie maps are wider and more open than the developer's mothers. And the fire birds, three summon able units that are arguably your sage's best damage dealer but you can't fucking control them because ???
Or numerous ultimate abilities that you can't use because collecting souls is a pain in the ass, it's unclear if they're collected once you finish a fight or if they disappear so you have to spend precious turns getting them, or just let them disappear because
>single target damage isn't your problem
>-50% damage reduction is nice but not for one turn
>Two clones of a low mobility with 30% of your health, armor and damage is shit
>A dog that instant kills knocked down enemies that are immune to knockdown is ass
>a random teleport to adjacent tiles around a unit is useless
>-20% max health decrease for everyone is shit because you can't drag fights on

Ideally you don't want to take night missions and should time your landers to avoid that, but sometimes it's just unavoidable, especially in the early game.
One of your main goals in the game should be to attain air superiority and more global coverage before you go ham on other aspects of the game. monthly funding from nations rapidly becomes not enough, and you ideally want to make more bases for radar coverage and more interceptors to shoot down even more UFOs, since UFO cleanup quickly becomes one of your main sources of income past the earlygame and you will become very stretched for funds if you dont into the later mid to late game.
Don't neglect upgrading your interceptors, even the foxtrot is a nice upgrade and viable for a very long time, you ideally want to replace your default starting planes as soon as your budget and research can.
Also don't neglect to get a second lander and enough soldiers to occupy it, there's going to be a lot of times where you'll down two or more UFO's but your primary squad wont make it to the 2nd crash zone in time. A disappeared mission means missed income, even if it means throwing a ship of rookies at it.
>>
>>477366009
While it's a "minor spelling mistake" that even happens to news blogs, big and small, it IS nonetheless funny and silly.
>>
Starting up JA3 again got some questions about making a melee IMP. Between hand-to-hand, martial arts, and throwing what should I take? First instinct says the first two but since I'm only able to hit the cap on all my stats if I completely dump marksmanship throwing as an alternative ranged option seems like it might see some use. Also is there any reason not to completely tank/reduce to 0 medical/explosives/mechanical? Wisdom and leadership for non-combat stats seems the obvious choice unless I'm planning on keeping old man raider in the squad for early game
>>
>>477388339
>Melee IMP
You could try something like

>Health: Max
>Agility: Max
>Dexterity: Max
>Strength: Max
>Leadership: Max
>Wisdom: Max
>Marksmanship: Minimum
>Mechanical: Minimum
>Explosives: 10
>Medical: 0

>Psycho
>Martial Arts
>Hand to Hand

Don't fall for the trap that "I might need ranged". You're doing a melee build, commit to the bit. If you half-ass it instead of full-assing it you lose on making your melee better which is what the point of the build is.
>Raider
You'd already have max leadership so he seems redundant

You will have so much mobility from other perks that you will be able to just full-on sprint with free move to your enemies anyway. That + machete charge = you can get up in their face real quick. And as long as you are getting that grit, you can self-sustain through all those bullet wounds.

Is this the one where you can play as US Marines and gun down fantasy creatures
>>
What's stopping devs from marrying the three levels of modern warfare into one game?
Something like:
>Strategic: HoI-style gameplay but limited to strictly military decisions
>Operational: Wargame/SD or Regiments- style, managing battlegroups and order of operations
>Tactical: Ideally something as visceral as CoH and World in Conflict
Total War is the closest I can think of that pulls this off, but it's too reliant on formations to feasibly make the transition to the post-industrial.
I made this same post before, but after playing some War in the East, Regiments and modded CoH back to back recently I got back to thinking that
>if only there was something that scratched the itches that each game does separately

With every different scope you add, your game loses focus and you no longer have the ability to keep every layer at the same level of detail/playability (because you don't have infinite dev time or resources)

Total War works because it's built by a huge studio with excellent financial backing, and because it is made for the "casual" side of the strategy market. Within the niche, it's a simple game when compared to other similar ones, because it's trading depth in one area over a wider scope. You could not have something on the level of Close Combat that also has strategic and logistical characteristics over an entire war theater

what is the point in listing "Shoulder/upper arm/lower arm" on the slots? Feels like it would be easier to just offer less slots to begin with
>>
>>477503958
the shoulder and upper arm always took up a slot in the tabletop game's construction system, a bipedal mech must be constructed with two shoulders and two upper arms.
the upper arm must attach to a shoulder, the lower arm must attach to the upper arm, the hand must attach to the lower arm.
the upper arm allows the arm to aim vertically independent of the torso, the lower arm allows the arm to aim horizontally and diagonally independent of the torso.
the shoulder, upper arm and lower arm could also be crit in the tabletop game, inducing various penalties.
it would seem the mod allows you to install modified parts to the limb segment slots that provide bonuses.

I found nothing for those slots for a good while (about 30-40 hours) into the game but recently these type of parts are popping up in markets for the upper arm/shoulder parts that let you sacrifice some mobility for weapon heat
also there is a hand slot if you don't equip a weapon on your arm and that can have spiked fist/battle fist parts that are lighter than weapons but make your punches hit harder/add some armor to your arm

What the fuck anon. Why do you have so much crap on you. Why do you need 4 pistols (3 of them empty) on you + a shotgun? Don't tell me you're also slinging something on the shoulder/neck slots

I would understand if the extra pistols were in your backpack (like the AK)...
You do drop your backpack when combat starts, right? Right? You want to stay lean in combat so you don't get a stamina malus

Anyway, to answer your question: Nah. Most of your guns and ammo will be obsolete by the time you get to the higher CGL's. Specially the shit surplus ball ammo. I guess try to keep a good amount of drugs but the excess should be sold. Besides, later on you should have enough money to buy what you want on demand instead of hauling everything around. Do you have your own base yet? There's a convenient merchant you can get for your own base so that you can dump loot in the base and then sell it right there
>>
>>477535780
It was easier to show everything I own by holding everything I could, I do try to travel light. No base yet but I know that the b'itish fella will give me the mission for it. So I take it that stuff like wine is for selling? Thanks anon!
>>
>>477540170
Oh ok. Yeah wine is just vendor trash. Only drink that is important is water to recover stam during a long fight
I guess do try to have like a couple spare body armors and ceramitc or titanium plates in the trunk of your car if you can, so you can keep good protection for your mercs
>>
Anyone try the new extraction shooters released ever since that whole unheard of edition news? Gray zone and incursion Red River? Also, how is spt nowadays? I'm looking for a tactical shooter that I can just be a loot whore in.
>>
>>477546583
Incursion is dog shit
Gray Zone is kind of fun, but poor performance and a few gameplay issues hold it back (landing zones being static, entire incentive for playing is just to complete tasks with no other form of progression, tasks are meant for solo play and not suited for groups, no differences between factions)
>>
What mods do you guys like to use for JA3? Coming back to the game now after I first played it on release, I want to know about all of the cool stuff that got made.
>>
>>477552535
For basic stuff, i can recommend, Tons of Guns, Zota6's sound pack, custom difficulty settings and Mercenaries Reloaded.

Also some UI improvments and there's a mod that auto-pauses if a merc spots a landmine.

Arena Breakout Infinite might be chinkslop but it's the closest notTarkov there is, and with its casualisation concessions (like squad matchmaking, squad marking, nade indicators, no friendly fire, the squad equipment return mechanic so if you extract with a squad member's stuff it gets sent back to them so you can just let them die then steal their stuff) and huge QoL improvements (matching into a game takes like 30 seconds tops, various UI stuff) etc (functionally shorter rounds, higher player density for more action) and being free, it appeals to a much wider audience on paper without alienating Tarkov's audience entirely.
The only consistent problem I see Tarkov players having with it is the near necessity to matchmake into a squad. You CAN go solo, but you're gonna fucking die if you do. You will be exclusively against squads, and you don't get the solo advantages of Tarkov since they have squad markers.
I do recommend trying it out, but if squadding (even if you don't really have to stick with them) and the monetisation (which you don't have to engage with but will mean you're going without a secure container and money is harder to make than Tarkov) put you off then it's probably dead in the water for you.
>>
>>477570232
so you can't* just let them die then steal their stuff
Go damn it

the less damaged the dead enemy mechs are at the end of the match the higher your salvage bonus c-bill payout is.
so headshotting literally every enemy mech would get you a substantial bonus, violently dismantling them so that their mechs almost no longer exist will not.

Light mechs have to be less useless than this in the tabletop, right? Like actually being too speedy to easily track? Or is it just the human players here being very predictable?
>>
>>477611198
The latter, but also mix in the fact that the average mechdad boomer who plays MWO can't actually aim. so they're heralded as being borderline OP by the retarded community that plays this game.
Lights were some of my most played mechs because of that, its incredibly easy to just go into a light mech and dead angle most heavies and assaults like a menace and zoom away thanks to their 10+ second reaction speed.
https://youtu.be/JHQfFIIK_84?
This video is heavily exaggerated, and he would have easily been shut down within seconds in most of these clips if the enemy team had played properly, by using UAV's to make sure nothing is creeping up behind them. By actually escorting their assaults, or by actually turning around and dealing with the backstabber instead of ignoring the dude flanking them as a collective whole out of greed.
Lights heavily punish misplay and scattered teams, so half of it boils down to maneuvering correctly, and the other half comes down to praying the enemy is retarded.
>>
>>477611198
The clipped ones are playing very badly.
Lights can honestly be one of the stronger classes, its just a lot of players are really shit with them.
Good light pilots can mog assaults like https://youtu.be/4YZJDE8-yoU?si=5_hf9kb6B8d6yGn6
>>
>>477611198
lights are actually much stronger in MWO than tabletop most of the time. they're not really meant for direct combat with heavier mechs and the much higher firepower mechs have post-succession wars means they're just too fragile to be viable combat mechs.
the greater mobility that tech advancements allow to heavier vehicles also means that mediums can also fill a light's niche of high mobility utility without being made of paper and matchsticks.
armor values are also doubled in MWO, and many mechs have armor quirks on top of that, so light mechs aren't so comically fragile as they are in the tabletop game.
in TT, a light mech of 25 tons or lighter can't put enough conventional armor on its legs to survive a single AC/20 shot, a 35 tonner can only mount 16 armor points per leg on top of the 8 structure points.
a mech with a destroyed leg in TT practically can't stand, let alone walk. leg destruction is usually equivalent to total destruction.
lights in MWO are still relatively very fragile, so they die very suddenly when caught out, similar to how assaults lack the mobility to leave a bad position when they're caught out. assaults rely on foresight and well planned positioning, lights rely on maneuver and adaptive positioning.

What is this? Tier 5? Is it from playing in a particular server region?
I haven't seen games full of people this oblivious and incompetent since I first started playing.
God I wish I wasn't in tier 1 sometimes, it can get so sweaty.
>>
>>477618885
That's all T1. They're the only ones that put a single point of armor on their ass
>>
>>477601879
>the game is too zoomed out
I played and liked all CoHs but the devs refusing to let the player zoom out because "it's not cinematic enough" is the dumbest thing.
In multiplayer you need to use the tactical map to keep an eye on everything and it's even less cinematic.
Apparently in coh3 there's an exploit or cheat or something to zoom out more so it's technically possible but it's considered cheating.
