>>476396859>>476398667Just reposting because this is an interesting subject
>>476398667Yeah, I appreciated the variety in EO's stratums. ...and also, somewhat paradoxically, the familiarity of always starting in a forest, before subverting expectations. People talk about how Dragon Quest is like a comfort food of jrpgs for the Japanese, especially. EO feels very 'comfort food' drpg for me. It's like, I'm in my element.
For-chan, my beloved. how can you be so smug?Or rather, what are you so smug about? You're a bit... lacking... in assets.
Etrian is really great because it balances being approachable (mechanically and story wise) by anyone with the desire to try out dungeon crawlers, but even after playing many different dungeon crawlers it remains fantastic because in a sea of games either doing too little or too much to shake up the formula making it difficult to tell them apart Etrian carves its own identity, thanks to Atlus-isms like the way the de/buff system works and limit/force giving the game more strategy in battle instead of customization before you head to the tree being the only engaging partWhat other crawlers are you playan etriams? For me, it’s Kowloon High. Not a fan of how tight some recruit flags are but bomber gothic lolita was worth the resets

>>476405905I like Touhou: Artificial Dream in Arcadia, but I'd be a liar if I said it was as good as EO. Great game though.
UPDATE #5Just about finished mapping Floor 7. It has been annoying with rooms strung together that have entranceways that become walls after you pass through them. Also, the entire floor has wrap-around 'walls'. Like in Pac-Man, if you're all the way to the West, and then go another tile, you're all the way on the East of the map. If I wasn't mapping it at all, I imagine it would be very confusing. (it still kind of is)Etriams lent by /eog/ are all alive and well. And and Teach have swapped out their swords for Calvary Spears. The difference, going from dealing 7-14 damage a round to 45-60 per round. The party recruited an NPC named Laurence for a bit. I stripped him of his stuff (some good armor, and one of the aforementioned spears), as well as all of his gold and deleted him...From the guild registry, I'm sure! It sounded like he was a noble, so I'm sure he's fine. But this is an adventure of /eog/ adventurers. Not Wizardry NPCs.Callie of Guild Clover is still Evil. I'm not exactly sure how to fix that. Fortunately, this entry doesn't force the Good party members to ostracize her like in other entries. Wulfric and Fluff have magic slings now, allowing them to attack (for not much damage) from the back row. It's better than burning spell slots on weaker enemies, or just defending that round. Arashi of Ishinomori has a spiffy new mini-crossbow. And he seems to be more reliably identifying and disarming traps at his level. Which is good, as chest traps start to do some cruel stuff at lower floors. (Like de-level your characters, or reduce stats permanently.)Pictured enemy looks like he's palming two FOEs.
>>476405905>Kowloon HighI've had that in my library forever, I need to play it some day.I picked up class of heroes 2 and started it the other day, its light but I enjoy it aside from how random the hp rolls are on level up, it practically crippled one of my front liners. Also really enjoyed Starcrawlers and will shill that all day to anyone who wants a sci-fi crawler with some neat visual designs.

I like EO because I only date girls that are less than 5 ft tall with small tits.
why are flatter than flat chests the best?
I'm pretty much a protector irl
Despite liking the design they went with, I liked their early designs of shield-guantleted pugilists more. Even in IV, they had something like Dragoons in mind.
what are the odds of the later games ever making it to the switch
>>476416546I assume you mean the 3DS games. Fatlus like easy money. And ports are easier than developing games from scratch. I assume. But I imagine market research would suggest that the demographic interested probably already own the games on 3DS. Like, I own IV, V, Nexus, and both Untolds. So, I'm not paying for a 'graphical upgrade', considering I think they look and play fine....Which means, even if it is relatively easy to port them over, it's still to close to their original releases, and not enough people would buy the ports/remasters to justify doing it. The fact that Nexus wasn't cross-gen when games like Alliance Alive were is pretty telling. So, I'd say not particularly likely.
>>4764165460%They'll get a switch2 port though.
>>476416546If we're assuming that 6 is still happening then it's possible. Maybe they announce a 4 and 5 hd collection alongside 6 and release it before 6 as a way to get newcomers caught up with all the main numbered entries. Before SMTV, they released that Nocturne hd version for example.

I'm going to run TWO Landsknechts in EO1

Just getting started on EO3 HDHoplite/Gladiator/NinjaMonk/Arbalestthat work okay as a starting party? I know you can sublass later which will open things up, but wondering if I'm missing anything obvious. Was tempted to swap someone out for Wilding but not sure who it would be.
>>476453312wildling is a bit trash and clashes hard with ninjaas nice as my paralysis spam has been I'm sure just having a ninja or zodiac doing 3x the damage would be better
>>476453870>wildling is a bit trash and clashes hard with ninjadamn, thats a shame, I like the concept of the class
I want another HD remaster pack to happen just so they would reprint the OSTs for 4 and 5, you can't bloody find them brand new anywhere anymore.
>>476453312i'd stick a zodiac in there, either in place of the gladiator or ninja, but it's workable as is
>>476454410Wildling isn't trash by any means. Its only considered bad because of how it clashes with ninja, which is a super strong subclass in 3.
Decided to bump the thread, have you?Good, I've been hoping someone would.
>>476460236haha yes anyway can I fuck your tits?
EO3HD. Made it to B03 so far.H/G/AP/MShould I replace the P with a Zodiac or am I fine as is?
>>476468689probably, because monk and sovereign together is overkill
>>476457982>>476458240thanks ladsI'll run with it a little while longer and see if the lack of the zodiac starts to hurtended up making a part in each of the HD games with the idea of getting them all a couple of levels in and seeing what I'm vibing with
I got to the second stratum in EOIV. I imagine you want to rest at level 22 so you can respec all of your points into the newly available skills? Are any of Landsnekcht's veteran skills all that good? I don't see much point in taking them over the link skills + improved link
>EO2 has mid-stratum geomagnetic polesWhy did this never return? Floor jump feels too streamlined.
>>476471917Last time I played I only respecced once at 42, after I had subclasses. But if you want to dump your SP on new skills, 2 levels is basically nothing.

If I take more than 10 steps in the Miasma Forest will I -ACK! and game over or will it just send me out of the room? I'm tentatively assuming it's the former but it would be really annoying to have to Ariadne Thread out when I make a fucky wucky.
>>476479512iirc you're thrown out of the room
>>476479512the party realises the sickness is starting to overcome them so they quickly rush out, which gameplay wise is being teleported out
>>476480286>>476480468I figured that's probably much more likely and that there was probably a floor or something like that in 5 (which is the only other Etrian game I've played) that I just don't remember. But it would be kind of based if it just fucking killed you.
>>476481035Following this would it be better to upgrade my Runemaster's passives like Runic Flare and Runic Guidance rather than upgrading the Rune Spells themselves? The damage number on the spells doesn't seem to go up very much per level on something like Glacier Rune and upgrading the passives would strengthen all of my elements rather than just one besides.
Would you recommend starting EO3 with the nude portraits for a first time player?
>>476488459That's the intended experience

How viable would it be to go with a 5 Beast party in 2?Considering Rampage is ranged all 5 can be attackers. All with level 10 LoyaltySince Loyalty takes into account defense and buffs of the ally the Beast is covering, every Beast will have a 22% damage reduction. And since it takes into account buffs of the defended ally I can give all Beasts Level 1 Bristle. Maybe I could even give the back Beasts Level 5 Bristle for extra defense when they're being defended with Loyalty.I wonder if Preen works with Loyalty though. Eg: Have one of the back Beasts use Preen so the enemy hits them 100% of the time, so whenever Loyalty kicks in it will defend the Beast using Preen who will also have Brittle Level 5 activated.
>>4765159655 beasts is not only viable, but optimal
>>476519526Based, does Preen work in the scenario I mentioned?
>>476520664I just tested it with 2 beasts, yes it does>Beast 1 is bear with high level in front row>beast 2 is tiger with low level in back row>Moa uses Rush>Bear takes 15 damage and Tiger takes 30 damage >Tiger uses Bristle and Preen>Bear takes 15 damage and Tiger takes 10 damage>Bear covers tiger and takes 10 damage, Tiger covers bear and takes 15 damageit appears to be working properly

Does it matter what I get Quona for her birthday? I was planning on just going with Abigail's suggestion, since I figured she'd have the best idea.
>>476536636>only getting her one presentDoes your guild only have one member?
Just started EO2 with my Petshop guild and I'm looking forward to start the second stratum with a team of 5 Beasts because I'm not modding the game on my first playthrough.Decided to try something new and play it with a controller because I felt like lying on my couch tonight, and it's surprisingly comfy (thank you, full automap) although placing icons is a bit cumbersome.
Does denuvo fuck up performance in EO3? I remember seeing someone complain about it fucking up performance in one of the HD games but I forget which.
>>476471917I always rest the whole party at 22 and 42 because there's always someone who wants to rest at each point and I like to keep my exp bars even. But if you don't care about keeping the exp bars even (in which case you're playing the game wrong but whatever) then it depends on your build plan. The big question for landy is are you doing links or not? If not, then you 100% want to rest at 22 so you can get your attack skills. If you are doing links and haven't put any points into the shield break skills (or anything else that you want to rest out of) then there isn't much value to be gained by resting at 22.
>>476542547>But if you don't care about keeping the exp bars evenOne day I should do a run where I force myself to stop caring about exp bars staying even and just see where it ends up

Its a minor thing but I wish the HD games had included more portrait options. Especially EO1, would have been nice to have access to the ones from 2 or some of the DLCs etc

I want EO6 to have EO3 subclasses and a new Yggdroid-like class
>>476588498I think most classes should specialize... but then you have a unique class that's called a 'Squire' or something, and part of their uniqueness is that they're the only class that can subclass. So, some adventurers already have a way of doing things, and hone their skills as you take them through the labyrinth, whereas the 'rookie' class is still learning things, and picks up different skills as they go along.

Looks like the Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord 3D remake is getting a Switch port this month. It advertises that it's the same game 'under the hood'. I really hope not. That's going to HARD FILTER drpg casuals. Also, the price point is... I mean. A lot of work was put into making 3D environments, and character portraits, and Ui. So, I get it. You got to pay your devs. But this is a game from 1981. That, again, they say they've left untouched (mechanically). I don't think I'm paying $39.99 for it.Still. Pretty neat. I hope they port the elminage games to switch.Translate the two or three on psp that didn't get translated (and don't even have fan translation) and drop on the eshop for $20 a pop.
>>476794096I think Perfect Chaser can also be a fun option in the right parties. I ran it with Double Attack Landy and Survivalist, who can use Illusion Step procs to provide activations. This can also work with Landy's chasers which is probably stronger, but if you want to use Ronin then it's a thing you can do
>>476799349>But this is a game from 1981It's not nice thinking we'll see the first generation of videogame devs and players die in our lifetime. Only a few decades to go.
>>476769184y'know, for being, like, the third video game ever created, Wizardry sure has some wack ass mechanics to itI've only explored the first floor so far, but it already shows an out-of-bounds zone, map wraparound, invisible walls, hidden passages that you can't see shit in, teleport tiles, and a fucking elevator to floor 4. I haven't even used the floor 2 stairs and I already found a floor 4 skip after accidentally walking into an invisible wall. I had to use one of my mages as a dedicated mapper spending magic charges using Dumapic every couple steps after I accidentally activated the hidden teleport and got stuck walking around in rooms that were seemingly closed off, or wrapped around, and I couldn't see shit in, or to figure out that the "A-D Buttons" tile was actually an elevatorHaving enemies be groups, instead of individuals is also very strange, limiting the max damage you can do to one enemy at a time, and making it so you can actually cast spells that target single enemies, a group of enemies, or all enemies. My previous thief fucking died, and then his revive failed and he turned to ash, and then his revive failed again he fucking disappeared into nothingness. Straight up GONE.Every enemy so far has 5-10 health, but then I got into a fight with Murphy's Ghost after touching some statue and the motherfucker had like 100 hp or something. And my fucking mage turned evil after we killed him so I had to dump him off and get a new mage to replace him because all my other good characters didn't want him in the fucking party. And then my Fighter levels up and LOSES STRENGTH. My characters LEVEL UP and their fucking STATS go DOWN. WHY???Honestly compared to today's standards of difficulty, Wizardry has some massive balls to come up with this kind of crazy shit, while also being older than my dad.And this is just the first floor of the first game
>>476813684soul
>>476813684>1981>Older than my dadInsanely based zoomer
>>476813684>And then my Fighter levels up and LOSES STRENGTH. My characters LEVEL UP and their fucking STATS go DOWN. WHY???I cant remember if wizardry does it, but is it one of the games where you can roll for how many bonus points a character gets at creation?because if you high roll on those, some games have a balancer that starts dropping stats from characters with big stats and giving more to those with few stats on level ups
>>476815303yeah, from what I've played with, characters can start with 5-8 extra points, and there's like a 10% chance that each character will just get a extra +10 points, but I'm not entirely sure on what goes in to the RNG so don't quote me on that
>>476813684Bro, were we talking the other week? I said not to play the first one. To stick with the Star*Fish developed ones. But, yeah. Wizardry was a game that made you want to beat it just out of spite towards the devs. A lot of the mechanics are taken right from AD&D, which is armor class, or AC is sort of more important than HP. Also, in later wizardry games, you can re-roll stats. So the 'stats going down' with a level up was MEANT to prevent someone from giving themselves amazing stats and then reclassing to one of the best classes in the game at level 2-4. ...At least I think that was the reasoning behind it.You're a mad man playing dos-box OG wizardry.Gaiden IV or Standard V on the SNES are decent starting points.I'm playing through Wizardy Empire at the moment. And it's relatively tame compared to the first game. Also, it's costly for low level parties, but you can actually buy a scroll in Empire that casts Dumapic, without expending a spell slot, at the risk that there's a set percentage chance that the scroll will be destroyed upon use. Wizardry always has floors that I call the 'Do you know where you are, no really, like, are you where you think you are?'-floors. Plenty of warp tiles and repeating hallways will have you mapping yourself in circles if you don't pause to check your coordinates every now and then.
>>476815996I've never spoken to a single person in my entire lifeand I like playing series in chronological order regardless of how horrendous some games are
>>476783876I don't remember what the random encounters are like on that floor but your party and level seems fine.

>>476816145...well, you'll be happy to know that you've just started a trilogy, and the subsequent entries try to out-bullshit the previous ones. So, you know. Good luck with that. You're more patient than me, that's for sure.
>>476789487>2U Medic is the best he's ever been since 1.>Overheal alone makes them actually worth having in a party instead of chugging MedicasAre you sure youre not thinking of EOV? Overheal is a charge skill and not a passive in 2U, its shit and only useful in a party with multiple medics.
>>476791715>Maybe, it's just a pain in the ass shooting around the map trying to find the right path only to get three petrifies on an ambush. I know after the first time that's my fault for not getting accessories, but still.Thats more of an ambush problem than a petrify problem. I think its a bit unfair to say that its your fault for getting ambushed. Instead of getting petrify resistance accessories (well maybe get one for your botanist), get the killing shot bow for your botanist and then fully upgrade it. The game doesn't tell you (which is fucking bullshit) but the wary eye skill is risk perception, at level 5 its a 75% chance to negate ambushes. Also if you really need it, Barrage Brawler does have Fault blocker which is really good. That again, Barrage brawler is so fucking SP hungry that I'm not sure if I'd actually recommend it lol. IDK, Ive never actually used that skill because the only time I ever used Barrage brawler was on a team with a shaman with exorcism prayer.

>>476813684Based zoomer playing the most soulful way possible. Would've pushed the SNES or PS1 versions myself but I respect the commitment. Legit hope you keep us updated.Part of Wizardry's fuckery comes from Gygax's fuckery in older D&D. Dude would make dungeons where the floor gently slopes down to a lower level, so if you didn't have a dwarf (to sense the subterranean features), or your players kept bad maps (one player was a dedicated Mapper), they would accidentally walk into a level they were too weak for.I mean the whole game steals from that era of D&D, but the dungeon shenanigans are definitely of the time.Hope you have fun with it, bro

>>47682193912-15
>>476821939Just bring some volt attacks and AoE
>>476813684Oh yeah I forgot to mention, if your party dies in the maze, you don't get a game over screen or anything, you just keep playing. Your party is left on the tile they died at, and if you want them and all their equipment back, you need to go back into the dungeon to pick them up. But you can't just pick up infinite dead bodies, no, you need space in your party to pick up the dead characters. So you've gotta create fresh level 1 characters, then go into the maze with an incomplete party, pick up your dead soldiers, walk all the way back to the castle, heal them up, then take ANOTHER incomplete party trip to pick up the rest of your dead party members (and potentially more repeats if you go with a party of 4 or 5 characters instead of 3). I figured this all out the hard wayYou also have to remember spell names, and then you have to TYPE IN THE SPELL NAME to actually use it. No you can't look up the spell list while you're in combat, idiotAnd chests are sometimes trapped, and you have to type in the trap name to disarm it, but at least your thief can identify the trap for you (sometimes (occasionally (rarely)))and then you get poison needled when your thief said crossbow trap, and you also stay poisoned until you go back to town, it doesn't just go away over time like in Final Fantasy, or disappear at the end of combat like Etrian. You're stuck with it.Sorry fucker, you lost 20 health from that poison? Better pay me 200 bucks if you want that health back. bitch. TEN DOLLARS FOR EVERY HEALTH POINT. I'M GETTING $20 JUST FROM KILLING A DOZEN ORCS, THIS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE.Died? UPDATE #6An ambush by a demon, whose master was a mad alchemist that had made a portion of the 9th Floor his lab, sent the party of /eog/ members tumbling below. The room was filled with ankle-deep acid, but the party floated over it with magic, taking no damage from the tiles.Stepping out into an anti-magic room dispelled all of the party's active spells, which I hadn't noticed at first, until I had to fight with 'unidentified enemies' in the next hallway. In wizardry, enemies are only vaguely described to you, until you fight them long enough to identify them... or you cast a spell allowing automatic identification for the duration of that delve. This spell had been canceled in the previous room.Gorgons and 'Winged Creatures' had bites that both petrified and poisoned. Callie, Arashi, and Wulfric were all turned to stone, and poisoned. Medicines and magic scrolls were used to mitigate the damage, but the party had to return to the level above, fight the mad alchemist, AND make it back to the surface while down two party members. All are alive, but Callie of Clover guild is being temporarily swapped out for Aurora of guild Triad. Callie is my only Bishop, and Bishops are needed to identify items, but having advanced too early, she didn't learn a lot of crucial Priest spells. The plan is to level Aurora until she can be a bishop, swap back to Callie, demote to Priest, learn the spells, and become a bishop again... all before delving deeper.tl;dr - At:Floor 9/10, all donated etriams are alive, temporary changes to party before some grinding for exp.

They're visually better than an Apple II. Interestingly, though. Most Wizardry games have an option to turn the graphics off. Or rather, to choose to play in black and white in a wireframe maze. >>476829301EhhhA DM isn't going to tell players too much about a monster. The reason is they don't want players to metagame encounters. But players aren't gonna turn their brains off, so after a few rounds, if they know rolling a 10 misses, and rolling an 11 misses, but rolling a 13 hits, they have a good guess what the AC is. And after you kill a few, you have a good idea on HP. But the DM probably isn't going to divulge "this monster has petrifying breath, this monster ages you". They want the surprise, or for you to suss it out.I get how Wizardry would want to gamify that.

The main reason they stink is because helm splitter exists. Giving a class a bunch of different attack skills but making one of them way more OP than the rest of them is bad design. If Helm splitter didn't ignore cut resistance then it would make the elemental skills have more value. If the other attacks all did more damage (or if helm splitter did less) then I'd be okay with helm splitter ignoring cut resistance.
>>476861269>>476867478Helm splitter is semi-busted sure, but the elemental slashes just suck. You can effectively only grab one and it's scaling isn't very good.

>>476867887>>476868684Yeah its both. Helm splitter is too strong, the other attacks are too weak.>Take out splitter, and Ronin still wouldn't use the elemental slashes outside of heavily resistant targets.Yeah that's my point. Having the other skills be occasionally useful is better than them never being useful at all. Its silly for an attack that ignores resistance to do more damage to an enemy weak to fire than a fire attack. And yeah, I get that helm splitters damage is to compensate for its low accuracy, but its over compensating. You could buff the damage on the elemental attacks to 250% and take away Helm splitter's ability to ignore resistance and Helm splitter builds would STILL be the meta for ronin.

>>476902579they aren't that lost, they just accidentally ended up in EO3 instead of 1 and 2 where they belong
>>476871683Ronin are quite terrible in EO2 for most of the game. There are only decent damage skill is Mideraba which itself only becomes good when maxed. Add to this the low speed factor of Katanas which makes Ronins always act after then emeies and very low HP. Then they have low TP too so you can't spam Mideraba either. To max>HP Up>TP Up>Miderabayou need at least 46 skill points that is level 44 which only reach in the fifth Stratum or the fourth if you spend major times grinding. In all Etrian Odyssey games the hardest parts are the early Stratums so you have a class that royally sucks where it matters.
>>476906409>the hardest parts are the early Stratums so you have a class that royally sucks where it matters. After instantly dying to a floor 4 eye ambush one too many times I benched ronin and used a different team.
>Wanted to play a ton of EO2 now that my tests are over>Got ultra mega sick and can't even gather the strength to play anythingFuck me
>>476906409>>476907158Orochi 5 (and its equivalents) are stronger than Midareba for most of its levels and you can unlock that in Stratum 1. Kienzan (and its equivalents) are fairly easy to unlock and can last you the entire game as CC.In fact, people like you who beeline Midareba are just making it worse for yourself because running around spamming their elemental katana skills is straight up superior for a good bulk of the game due to the prevalence of elemental weaknesses for you to single out and the relatively low investment you have to make.If you don't mind resting around Stratum 3, its optimal to go down Iai first for the ice attack and use that as your bread and butter for the first two stratums since that's effective against the majority of rhe major encounters before transitioning over to the classical Overhead build. For a no rest, run you doOverhead 7Orochi 5Kienzan 1Midareba 10TP Up 10Then raise HP Up, Kienzan and Str Up to max as needed along the way. Although you can delay HP Up if you farm Life Belts in Auburn Thicket.
>>476907158Run elem singles (one) or getsuei. You can start rushing getsuei from 6 and have lv10 by 17. Rest at 31-35 for max midareba. Not ideal, but you can start maxing hp and tp after.
>>476895361When did saying that helm splitter is OP become a controversial opinion? I thought we all agreed that Ronin was one of the most OP classes in Nexus? Was it for some other reason? I feel like I'm being gaslit here.
>>476866469let me guess: /v/again, it goes back to you not being able to recognise retarded people for what they are
>>476916846>Was it for some other reason?Yes, because Air Blade is overtuned and you can just spam that the whole game from the backline using any stance. Also the new infliction formula actually utilises their high STR quite well so they can actually inflict stuff if you want them to.Helm splitter is incredibly mediocre in Nexus, only really shining if your other attacks would be resisted.
>>476916846>I thought we all agreed thatSheep. Play the fucking game and form your own opinions. Are you that guy from before that reads stuff off /v/ and mistakes it for the truth?
>>476906409I've just been using lvl1 Sayageki for the first 2 stratums since it only costs 2 TP and does enough damage to help one round most of the encounters, or one shot a few enemies. And then I use Orochi or Midareba for the harder enemies. Also I'm fucking insane and use curse cut transfer so ronin doesn't run out of TP too often, starting from the third stratum"meta-strats" are gay as fuck, surprise surprise
>>476911661Sorry to hear that, make sure you get some rest and eat some good food.
>>476921008>Complaining about people following the "meta" and proceeds to talk about Cursecut + TransferOh the irony>>476917146Are you stupid? He obviously recognizes that they're incorrect which is why he laments that we have people still trying to pass off bullshit as fact even though the game is almost ten years old.
>>476924593who the fuck thinks cursecut transfer is meta
>>476924683Do you live in a hole or something? Everybody knew about Cursecut + Transfer back when EO2 came out on the DS. Right there with the generic cookie cutter team of Ronin, Hexer, Dark Hunter, War Magus and Gunner. It's straight up the most common answer whenever someone talks about needing TP assistance as well.
>>476925220alright, the last two times I talked about it in these threads, someone or a few people said "don't do that, you're wasting war magus, just use items, invest in better skills" or something along those lines so I guess I just haven't seen the wider reception
>>476925478War Magus barely has anything to do so they will eventually pick up Cursecut. However the anons are right in that you should just buy TP Up 10, etc since it's generally more efficient and less time consuming.Too bad you can't erase 15+ years of accepted "meta" strategies such as Cursecut + Transfer, using Dampen on everything, beelining Midareba etc. even though players have attained a better understanding of the game since then.
>>476925478those people are right. Curse cut is a meme.
>>476926420People also often repeat the>Beast = badmeme despite it being objectively wrong.Wildcut is the strongest skill in the game against big groups (222% damage against all 5 targets) and Claw is super TP efficient against single targets (210% damage for only 6 TP). Then add that the Beast exclusive armor is considerible better than other armor.Just don't put any points in Loyality unless you use multiple Beasts.
Gladiator/Prince/MonkArbalist/ZodiacIs this a good line-up? Also, are Monks viable in the front line?>t. newbie
>>476929474no, use 5 farmers instead, they're OP
>>476929474>Is this a good line-up?Yes.>Also, are Monks viable in the front line?If you want to make a Punch Monk, then yes, they're ok.
>>476929474I'd move Prince to the back row, and debatably Arbalist to the front. Prince really isn't a front row unit, and doesn't benefit from being up there. Arbalist is really squishy and can't survive the front row too well, but atleast it gets a nifty skill from it.
>>476929474Put arbalist on the front and go sicko mode. Also p and m are overkill at the same time, but they can spec into other things than heals so probably still runnable.
>>476930539They can do fine in the front and have good survivability in 3. The main benefit is not having their normal attacks get the melee penalty that they would have in the back. It's a little harder to keep them at full hp for royal veil but that's about it.
>>476932363royal veil is extremely strong early on so that point alone is enough reason to leave them in the back at the start. Though you really do want at least someone else in their row with more max hp, which can be a bit tricky since they have fairly high max hp.
>>476930453>>476930548I was planning on running a more offensive Monk anyways so it seems like i'm on the right path.>>476930539>>476932363Yeah, the melee penalty combined with the Arbalist's frailty were the main reasons why i chose Prince as the front liner.
>>476934606Arb only goes in the front if you're going for Front Mortar. They can still be built for good damage in the back though.
>>476934606Arbalist can survive all right on the front. There are some tough enemies that can take you out, but good offense, good armor and prince buff can save your ass more times than not.
Is it me or are the non-unlock classes in 4 kind of one note? Outside of of Nightseeker ofcourse.
>>476939221Dancer can be fun, probably one of the more interesting buffers in the series
>>476939221What do you mean by that? Classes can be built different ways like usual. Landy can focus on links or just focus on normal sword skills. Dancer can focus on pure support or go more offensively with her chase line of skills.

is there a way to play this game that doesn't include you running back and forth in a straight line for hours grinding a level before moving onto the next? kinda kills the exploration and pace of the game for me.
>>476976589Build a better party so you can beat it with a lower level. Nothing in those games ever requires you to reach the level cap.If your current level is twice the floor number than your level is more than enough.
>>476976589nah bro. EO sucks
>>476976589The only time you have to grind is when you retire your whole party. You're probably missing something. I can think of these: you're either rushing to the floor exit, have no clue what your classes do, trying to reach autobattle viability. Or somehow you managed to build a shitty party, which isn't easy, but possible (i ran 3 beasts, medic and hexer in u2 once, i quit at scylla).

Going to give EO3 a go, I picked up the HD version when it came out but never got around to playing itPretty set on a core of Hoplite/Monk/Arbalist, but not sure what to take in those last two spots. Any recommendations? Wildling looks cool as a concept but on paper I'm not sure I'm sold on it
>>476985681Wildling has the best poison for a long time, can bind everything (25% at lv1/skill) and spears do decent damage from the back. I like to subclass it into hoplite to amplify backrow spears and have counter for the dragons, but you already have one as main. If you want a different 6th slot taker, I recommend Ninja, but the 2 together don't really work.Prince(ss) is amazing for buffs, but clashes with monk for heals. Zodiac has never worked out for me, but most people like it. You can do some wild shit with it and if you run frontline Arbalist, it's your best bet for backline damage.
>>476989914I made mine a farmer so I could actually collect stuff.the cow used to do good damage but now I just pray I get good paralysis procs
>>476990407Man the cow is so bad compared to venomfly. Had to rest cause it just wasn't worth having for my party. I was surprised how much support and latend damage can Wildling deal with poison and forged spears.
>>476990716I should probably rest most of my characters but losing levels hurts me.

Hello /eog/! It's Nexus anon again, and I've made it to the tailend of waterlogged woods! But when do the FOEs get hard? I have very limited experience with Etrian games. (I've only played the first stratum of 2 and 3. And the first two Steatums of 2U and 5) Yet in those games, I remember FOEs being kind of difficult, or atleast I'd make an effort to avoid them. Yet in this game I've pretty much just plowed throufh every FOE on the first attempt, often just killing them rather than learning their movement patterns. Is expert not the intended difficulty? The basic enemies seem harder here than in 5 or 2U.
>>477024305Gunner-chan... that's not a gun. That's a /k/ smartphone.
>>477036780Nexus is one of the easier games in the series. So...
>>477040615it also has questionable balance right from the start with some class combinations being significantly overpowered relative to the intended difficulty of EO
Potato Flowers in Full Bloom just went on sale on the Nintendo Switch... for 26% off.Which is a weird number, but the price is a palindrome now at $13.31. What does all this mean? Dunno. But it has now fallen in my personal budget to where I'm going to buy it. If anyone else has interest in the game, you've got 20 days, and there's a demo.I've never played it, so it could be shit, but people here seem to have good reviews for it.
>>477040615>>477041054Ah well, that's fine. I don't mind an easier game. I was kust kind of surprised because the enemies in specifically the first shrine were way harder than normal. But later on I am taking on three scorpions. That admittedly I kind of just lucked out on and killed 2/3 with Ronins instakill forcebreak.
>>477036780Are they blue when you're facing them? The difficulty of Nexus is about average more or less in comparison to the rest of the series. The side caves are balanced to be harder than the main labyrinths. The one thing that Nexus does do however is give you tons of exp so it's easy to accidentally get above the level curve. Making a second party or resting if FOEs are blue immediately upon finding them the first time can help.
>>477044315The aura thing? They're yellow. I wasn't too worried about exp since I did a rest recently. Though I might be risking it now sonce this morning I committed greedy lizard genocide. It's fin turns both into a new knife my Ninja desperately needed and medium armor that my entire front row uses.
Hi etriams, I did an item dupe focused run on classic untold 1 and it was surprisingly fun and I recommend doing a full run once if you want to try something stupid. I ran landy, dh, protector, survivalist and troubadour.Survivalist feels a lot more fun to use with the glitch and it really lives up to the name, cause I never had to rest unless for progression and I could tacke most things at significantly lower level than I had any right to. I honestly thought he'd just be the shittier medic, but he was the MVP of the group instead. Obviously getting Formaldehyde weapons early on a regular ng was my main reason to do this run and they didn't disappoint. Especially Meteor Axe after eating shit on Golem for longer than I dare to admit. What's my punishment for cheating /eog/?
>>477049870>What's my punishment for cheating /eog/?Next Stage delayed for the Switch 3

>>477050338Fuck, should've known better>>477051791It is fun, but keep in mind, you survive on items and when you're full from materials you still need to go back to sell from time to time. Formaldehyde weapons need a lot of money so it's less ideal to just throw shit away.
FURINKAZAN
This series is too good to just let it die. We need 6, Atlus.
>>477060217>3 games on ds>5 games on 3ds (9 if you count Persona Q and the mystery dungeon games)>nothing but some ports in the past 6 yearsReally weird for them to go from going hard to going silent.
>>477066015Not really that surprising, kind of hard to make games on the cheap for weak sub-SD handhelds when those no longer exist
>>477066015The 3DS died and Persona 5 blew up in popularity. I don't know how sales of V, Nexus, and the hd collection did but hopefully they can allocate a small budget for their main niche series sometime soon. Atlus doesn't seem to think it's their third pillar but I think it is.
Need a princess gf
>>477067434Personas has been since 3, before Etrian even existed. And despite that it's still been 9 years since Persona 5. More time has passed between now and P5 than P4 and P5
>>477071107I know it was popular before 5 but 5 caused a much larger spike than the previous two games. I don't care if Persona is their main cash cow but it wouldn't kill them to let the SMT/Etrian team make a new Etrian already. They have enough money to throw around for garbage like Soul Hackers 2 for example (which I think nobody was asking for).
>>477071980It's weird because it feels like they are trying to chase their next persona by making a bunch of low quality not-persona games like Soul Hackers and Re Phantasio, rather than just make Persona 6 already and get it out of the way so we can Etriam
>>477073695I think it's different team that does Persona and it's probably actually SMTV and now VV that is taking up the staff that would make EO6. This is still why I think it's possible that we'll finally get an announcement after VV is out.
>>477066015Not really. It makes perfect sense. The series flourished on the DS family of systems, and is suffering without them. The whole point was to map the dungeon on the second screen, which was intuitive with a stylus and built-in touch screen. On PC and Switch, it feels so unnatural mapping. If someone (somehow) wasn't familiar with the series, a valid complaint they might have is 'why is this clunky mapping system shoehorned into the game?'. And the answer is that it used to work on the devices they were made for. Those devices, however, are no longer supported. As I said before, EO died with the (3)DS.
>>477075092Controller mapping feels fine and the hd collection proved that the series can continue even without dual screens.
>>477067835All of them activate my breeding instincts
>>477075092>On PC and Switch, it feels so unnatural mapping. Can't vouch for the HD remakes or consoles, but as someone who started on an emulator mouse controls for mapping is fine. It's just like MS Paint.
>>477074435I don't want SMT though, I want Etriam
>>477075791>>477076768I hope Atlus makes a sixth main entry game for you guys. But I got a team to level 12 in EO1HD on Switch before not touching it since a week after launch. It's too clunky for me, now. In a way that affects my enjoyment of the games. I don't want to touch my Switch screen with my fingers. And you can't adjust FOV (as far as I remember) to keep the map out at all times. This last thing is just nitpicking from me. But unless they radically change the series around the fact that they can't use the DS to utilize DS-dependent games, I likely won't be playing EOVI. ...I'll still buy it. I sort of have to at this point, considering I own all the others. The only condition is if it's an eshop exclusive, and I can't purchase something to put on the shelf... that's a deal-breaker for me.If it works for some people, then good for them. Good for (you). But it doesn't work for me, in its current state. :(
>>477078563I've put a lot of time into all three of the games (mostly 3 and 2) since the hd collection released and it's probably one of my most played games on Switch at this point if you add all three play-times together. I also play a lot of action games and have good muscle memory so the mapping felt fine to me after an initial period of getting used to it. It's not quite as fast as a stylus but still good enough and with a few tweaks and improvements, it could be made even better. Mapping is an important part of the series but the games are good for much, much more than just the map drawing. It's still possible that the Switch successor could have some sort of second screen but even if it doesn't, I still want it to continue on one screen.
>>477078563 I am sure it'll still be good blobber in it's own right. I don't really like famboying for series, I would never buy a game out of a sense of brand loyalty. Yet despite that, and despite knowing it probably won't be 100% what I want, if they were to make a new game I would make that rare mistake of preordering. Because no other game series has proven to be time and time again to be so consistently good in quality. Not even Dragon Quest, and that's a series I used to always praise for similar reasons.Yet I fully and 100% get what you are saying. Nothing beats laying in bed, drawing maps with the stylus. It is peak comfy. And nothing will replace that.
I deserve a buccaneer gf
>>477046452>YellowThat's your problem.Once you clear the first stratum, your party should be able to take out FOEs while they're still red. I usually fight each FOE as soon as I reach the end of the floor they appear on.
>>477042036(me)thus far, I like the game. It's a nice blobber with a simple, yet charming aesthetic. Aside from a wide selection of customization options for the look of your characters, I really like what I've seen so far of the skill-tree system. It seems like you could play with two (or more) of the same class, and they would play differently depending on how you spec into your skill trees. Also, I don't feel like there's a specific class that is 'a mandatory class'. No necessary healer, or tank means your free to experiment with the full roster of classes. Also, no random encounters. This is always a plus for me. And combat has an interesting action economy. Dungeon design makes use of its small footprint with locked doors, gate puzzles and shortcuts leading back to the entrance. And I like the limited light mechanic, allowing you to look at your map, but only if there's enough light to see it. The only complaint I have seems to be with translation? I've noticed a couple of grammatical errors that slipped through QA. But I've played entire jrpgs with messy machine translation, back when that was the only way to play some Japanese exclusive games. It's a bit early to be giving it a full review, but I thought I'd point out the things I liked, incase anyone else here is thinking of trying it. Sorry for the blog-post.

I'm not worried about mapping but my main fear for 6 is that there won't be enough portraits suited to my taste. I need enough to form a full party of five but really there should be more than that so I have some options. >>477125281Armor that has either physical or elemental resistance icons is usually good.
>>477125281HP>def is the way.As >>477142736 this anon says, your def is divided by 3 in calculations against the enemy attack. If you want to reduce damage, invest in HP mainly and VIT secondarily. Def will just accumulate naturally as you upgrade armors. Also equipment that gives stats or has special properties like status or bind resistance is usually way better value than the one that only has high def, but nothing else.
>>477126693Then you're overleveled. The first time you meet any new FOE, it should have a red aura.>>477125281Def is a scam. Any armor that doesn't have bonus effects is trash, don't waste your money on it.
>>477152837>If you want to reduce damage, invest in HP mainly and VIT secondarilyI get that each 3 def = -1 damage taken, but how does vit work exactly? does it directly reduce damage too?
>>477160426Attacker's STR and defender's VIT together make a modifier for the base damage value derived from attacker ATK and defender DEF during damage calc.I'm not very good at explaining nerd shit, but here: (aATK-dDEF)*sqr(aSTR÷dVIT) monster attack is its STR*3, while character DEF is divided by 3, modifier makers are left as is. There's more to it, but if you scour gamefags, you'll find it probably a lot cleaner than this.Point is, HP is king.
I'm playing EO3, it's my second ever Etrian game after EO1 and I wanna try a chase-heavy team because of how much I enjoyed links in Persona Q1/2 (I know links and chases are slightly different from each other though). I just beat Ketos and unlocked subclassing and I wanna know how good a thrust-only chase team would be, utilizing a ninja, arbalist, hoplite, prince etc. all classes with pierce weapons/skills. I get that a single enemy or boss that resists physical would annihilate me, would oils or prince's weapon buffs help mitigate that?
CHAIN KILLER
>>477160426>how does vit work exactly? does it directly reduce damage too?Yes that's all Vit does, and a point of Vit is worth a lot more than a point of Def, however that should be expected. Whats frustrating is that the "Def" value shown in your character status screen is complete bullshit. Just to be clear, when people talk about Def EO, they are usually referring to the total of all the Def values on each piece of the characters equipment, and NOT the "Def" value shown in the character's status screen. The "Def" value shown there is a function based off of your Def and Vit values, but its not used in damage calculation at all. It is SUPPOSED to be a simple value for telling how bulky your character is at a glance, so that you can just look at one value instead of two that you have to then put into a formula. Unfortunately, the value shown is a garbage approximation of that, it undervalues Vit by a LOT. According to that "Def" value, an early game helmet with 10 Def will reduce damage more than a +5Vit accessory, but a simple glance at their prices should be enough to tell you how wrong that approximation is. The same is also true for the "Atk" value shown as well, a point of Str is worth far more than a point of Atk on your weapon than the value shown will have you believe (however this won't cause you to make incorrect buying decisions so we only ever complain about the "Def" value). From what I hear, they did finally fix this issue in EOV, so you can trust the values shown in that and Nexus, but just ignore it in every other game.Anyway, the best way to reduce damage, is resistance to the relevant damage type. One box each of slash, pierce, and bash resistance will do more to reduce phys damage than any amount of Def or Vit that you can ever get on a single piece of equipment.
Okay so i installed the nexus mod for class overhaul and buccaneers and Alchemists but I don't see the classes.
>>477159128>Then you're overleveledThat's very unfortunate, then I've been overleveled since even the first area. Strange too since in the Eastern shrine I pretty much rushed to the boss because of a reset, and I still run from most encounters. What is a more appropriate level anyway? My party is level 30/31, and I am halfway through the Southern Shrine. After beating the catfish, I think 3 has the best soundtrack. I really like the boss theme. Maybe after I beat Nexus I should give 3 a try.
>>477176902hold select while turning on the 3ds and see if game patching is enabled. if that's not it, make sure you've set up the folders correctly
>>477118031>Warrior>Knight>Cleric>Shaman>Ranger>Rogue>Wizard>SorcererRaces:>Orc>Wood Elf>Gnome>Dark Elf>Goblin>Dwarf>HumanRace is entirely aesthetic, as far as I can tell. Class determines your Skill Trees, but NOT what weapons and armor you can equip. So... you could make a wizard. Put him in platemail, give him a zweihander, and have him be your tank. The skill trees provide bonuses for using weapons that would make sense. So, for example, you deal X% more magic damage, but only if you're equipped with a staff or rod. So the game doesn't outright tell you what you can and can't equip, but rewards you with skills that work for the classic theme of the class.
>>477164105>would oils or prince's weapon buffs help mitigate that?It would, since it affects both normal attacks and weapon chases iirc. If you wanted an optimal Chaser team, you could wait a bit and use Shogun instead

So what is the generous consensus on the Shrines? I am enjoying them mostly them, I like the wall climb puzzle, but I feel they overstay their welcome. Like I know 5 floors is the standard, and usually I don't mind, but here I feel it overstays its welcome. Not sure why.
>>477354440really annoying. on their own they wouldn't be so bad, but the repeated design for so many floors is trash, lack of fresh gimmicks in them (there are gimmicks but not enough) sucks, and they are not a breath of fresh air when the rest of the game is full of first and second strata that are more basic
>>477354763I know it was just last game but them not grabbing the 3rd or 5th stratums from EO5 for Nexus kills me every time, especially considering how much 3 floored me the first time I got there due to how different it was tone and music wise compared to everything else in EO so far.

After I finish/get bored of/stop playing Nexus, should I move on to 3 or 5? I obviously still want to beat Nexus, and I am enjoying it. But playing this gake that is mostly references makes me want to try the games it's referencing.I know the other games are good too, but I like the ocean and space. No I do not care about old jank in videogames.
>>477379391Both 3 and 5 are pretty good to me. I prefer 5 a little because I like the class there and specializations over subclassing, but its a close race.
>All of this kicking and screaming over pointless bullshitReally?
>>477379391Can't go wrong with either. If it helps: 5 is less mechanically, but more visually similar to Nexus. If burnout can be an issue, pick the one you think would feel more fresh. Or just check out the portraits and classes and pick whatever roster you like more if you can't decide.
>>477380579>>477381750Well I want to play 3 because I've always had a distant infatuation with it since I was young. Granted back then I only played the first few floors, but something about the game artistically capture me. Maybe it's because the ocean theme it goes for is very beautiful, or maybe it's because it feels like most of the classes try to fit themselves into that ocean theming. But I do know, when I fought the catfish in Nexus, something awakened in me again to want to play it.But at the same time I have sort of have a grudge match for 5. When I first tried the game 8 or so years ago, I got to the second stratum boss and then got walled. I know if I were to replay now, I could pwn him. Plus I kind of want to spite my brother by using specializations he doesn't like. Or atleast 2/3s of them. Necromancer might be the only class he truly think is fundamentally bad. But I would be lying if I pretended it paired well with Rover and Omnimancer. Plus I wanted to run Fencer and I heard mecros don't pair well with fencer.
>>477385321fencers should team okay with necros, though I've only used them as chainers
>>477385620I thought none of their attacks chained as well off of compared to persay, Masuro or or Rover? And that they don't synergize well with anyone
>>477389179you've still got 3 other members to chain off and necro can run the defense once its got bulky enough ghosts to make fierce shield worthwhile they dont provide direct support to fencers but they dont actively clash the way they do with say rovers
>>477385321Necromancers are an all or nothing class imo. You either go full retard and break the game with them or you don't bother.
>>477389179I used a necromancer in a chain party and they worked well with fire and ice bombs. For volt chains you just do imbued normal attacks via shaman buff. Necromancer synergizes well enough with most classes except rovers and dragoons that use bunkers. Rovers need at least one summon slot but dragoons can be built without bunkers. Dragoons' dragon roar synergizes very well with necros' grave skill because you know the counter target is going to be attacked. Auto roar plus grave will delete random encounter extremely well. Grave in general is fantastic with wraith mastery maxed out. Good damage, ranged, unlimited counters, and paralysis that's basically guaranteed. Because of that you can also use chain killer well with it. Necros defense debuff is also good and will help everyones damage.

>>477466343Because people like to regurgitate things endlessly. I really don't think 4 is all that much easier than the rest of the series. It's not the hardest but it's still challenging enough to be engaging and it remains as one of my favorites.
>>477467770>>477471917I thought Golden Lair was challenging to navigate, but then again I have a poor sense of direction.
>>477473901Understandable, because it has multiple entrances and different states. However, the longer you spend in a dungeon, the more overlevelled you get, so the fights aren't as hard.

https://youtu.be/FKYNfVyvh1s?si=IN1v3-JoyhNmlozqThe yuri drpg is releasing on the 24th.What do we think about it, etriambros?
>>477478161The yuri aspect is certainly interesting and I'm curious to hear how that works out, but I'm not really interested in a DRPG having romance events be they yuri or otherwise. I feel like it would just get in the way of the core gameplay loop. Its part of the reason why I still haven't gotten around to trying out any of the Persona games. If it gets good a reception here, I might check it out though.Do we know what the price is gonna be yet?
>>477466821Hall of Darkness is much nicer than Forbidden Wood with it's warp maze and invisible FOEs. The trap formations are simply that, traps you can run away from.
>>477471917Yeah, 4 is definitely on the easier side but I don't think that the gap between 3, 4 and Nexus is that big.I believe it's a combination of many players not touching the game for decades and thinking that 4 is any different from many of the other games where you can build a team that can effortlessly crush bosses. The biggest culprit is probably the fact that it was the first game where they put in a serious effort in class design so we don't have any outright bad/counterintuitive classes like the older ones.
Will Sentinel Guard become good once my party gets to a higher level and the DEF gap between Bert and the rest of them gets bigger, or will that skill always be garbage?Seriously, what the fuck should I invest my SP in now that I got front guard at 9, all the element walls to 4, parry maxed out, and a few points in mine? Does 2U protector really have nothing better to invest in than stat up passives at level fucking 40?
>>477484251Shield Smite / Rush ain't that bad
>>477484251Sentinel Guard is a kind of cool skill, but needs a bit of investment. It transfers all defensive and ailment/bind resistance effects on the user to your allies, including from passives, buffs, and equipment, so it also improves as you level stuff like Phys DEF Up. The drawback makes it a bit tricky to use but you can still Force Break afterwards so there's that
>>477484251The skill carried me through juggernaut because I was too retarded to figure out his gimmickI don't remember if I ever really used it in other fights
>>477476664>>477477805unfathomable based taste
>>477478161If it gets a mod to have straight stuff instead of yuri I'd give it a go for sure
>>477486918If I had a Sexer on my team I'd invest in Shield Smite, but I'm doing the story party so all I got is blind and paralysis, which means I can't really afford to let my protector stop doing his main job.>>477488653Oh shit really? I figured it was just DEF VIT and maybe TEC that got shared. I didn't think it would share passives and buffs, that's interesting. I suppose I could combo it with fortify or a stonard to good effect. Still though, that one turn penalty is pretty nasty. It really only seems like it would be worth casting on the turn before force break. I suppose I'll still pick the skill up because there's nothing better, but I'll put some points in elem def up first.>>477494396I don't think you need to put yourself down like that, I honestly don't know how anyone would figure that out without looking up juggernaut's behavior patterns online. My 2 classic mode teams really had trouble with juggernaut because I couldn't figure it out either. It was annoying how if you used panic or stun to prevent him from using his big attack he'd immediately use it anyway on the first turn he could after recovering. Only binds could get him to move on with his moveset after preventing him from using it.
>>477495985That wouldn't be as hard as you might think, in fact if you play it in Japanese (because the language doesn't have gendered pronouns) and pick your class portraits correctly, you might not have to do any modding at all.Warrior, Healer, Necro, and Digger can all easily pass for male just like EOIV landy or some of the troubadours (The alt portrait for Bird might work too, but admittedly that one's pushing it a bit). Just pair them up with the female portraits and use a little bit of your EO style imagination, and BAM, you got yourself a hetro relationship. 100% Fafnir approved.
>>477495985Insanely shit taste but just use your imagination and think of them as traps I guess.
>>477498926>Warrior, Healer, Necro, and Digger can all easily pass for male just like EOIV landy or some of the troubadoursah nice, I hadn't looked at the portraits too deeply>in fact if you play it in Japanese (because the language doesn't have gendered pronouns)unfortunately I dont speak moon

Is Efficiency on Survivalist worthwhile?
>>477522552In 1U it's fantasticIn 2U and Nexus it's just ok
what would be a balance, no hassle team for EOV? I started a new playthrough on my old 3ds and I just wanna turn my brain off while I draw maps.the only restriction I would have is to have a necromancer cuz shes pure sex.
>>477531923Impact Pugilist and Cannon Dragoon. The rest can be whatever you want.
>>477531923i played the cheesy necro. I had a 4sword, binder pug, cannon and a shaman
>>477498926I wouldn't say any of those "easily pass as males" at all. Are we looking at the same portraits? Also making your own headcanon isn't really great advice for this one. The game is trying to push the yuri angle hard and it's apparently even a mechanic. At this point it would just be delusional, the game is clearly aimed at people that like yuri or are at least neutral towards it. It would be like playing a harem game where all the girls clearly want MC-kun's dick and then trying to pretend they're actually all yuri for each other. >>477478161Eh, I don't know. Not enough loli portraits for one thing but maybe the final version would have more. I like yuri but I still don't think this looks too great. Then of course there's the question of how the combat is. A lot of DRPGs don't understand the idea of making fleshed out skill trees with more than like two skills in it.
>war magi tape their sword to their staff>still can't use war edge skills with a staff in 2
>>477545130>war magi can use swords and staffs>their portrait is clearly a spear but those didn't exist yet>in nexus they can't use spears because ???
>>477478161There isn't really much more information now than when they were still raising the money for it, so it's tough to say.I expect the relationship mechanics will be similar to Miitopia, where relationship events will happen every so often where the girls gain/lose points with each other, that will then affect combat in some form. They are going with the Etriam-like 5-girl party, which they acknowledged means that someone's probably gonna end up a fifth wheel to some extent; they did also suggest threesome relations were possible but very difficult to maintain, so who knows if that made it in. I will say that I'm not amused by the basic "creepy stone brick dungeon" setting, as we were discussing at the end of last thread, and the enemy design contrasts the girls quite a bit more than I'd prefer. I mean, there's contrast in Etriam, too, but not to the extent that your lolis look like they belong in a different game from what they're fighting. We can't judge much about combat or dungeon design from just trailers, which is unfortunate because those are quite important to the game actually being good.I'll play it, and I hope it will be decent, but I'm keeping my expectations measured.
>>477542254Are you really so autistic that you couldn't tell that I wasn't being completely serious with that post? Also, and I am being completely serious here, you can not tell me that healer isn't a boy. That character design just exudes big trap energy.
>>477553286Well you can't convey speaking tone too well in type so yeah, I thought it was serious. And no, I don't see cute healer girls in frilly dresses and immediately think they're traps. You might just be gay anon.
What's a good alternative to dragoon?
>>477556549For team durability improvement? Herbalist or Harbinger probably
Best ronin skills for the post-game of EOU? I went full on upper stance the entire game but I'm wondering if I should respec.
>>477556861Well for the most part. Trying to think of a hypothetical chain team with fencer, omnimancer, hawk rover, and probably shaman. And I am trying to think of a hypothetical last slot, hypothetically.
>>477556549Necromancer fierce shields are pretty good even if you don't do the zombie powder FOE gimmick (I never do).
>>477558236also for late game you have tombstone vicedon't need to block if the enemy can't fight back
>>477557425IIRC with U1 Ronin you either go with the traditional Upper unga bunga or build your party around Perfect Chaser
>>477558765>>477558236This, people always go for zombie powder (understandably) but tombstone vice is amazing, kept the superboss locked down the entire fight the last time I played.
>>477542254I think I read somewhere that all etriams are canonically androgynous and you can choose whatever gender you want, but I feel like I'm just making that up
>>477558190Why would you go with Omnimancer when you have a Shaman that can give your Elemancer Common Magic everytime you use Dance Oracle and also give your Elemancer an Elemental Prayer to destroy everything with Clever Strike?
>>477558236Can Necromancers be ran in the front row? Or is it better to run Shaman in the front row? Also will the rover pets cause the necromancer to screech autisticall
>>477560001I mostly want to run Omnimancer, Shaman is more or less the afterthought addition.
>>477559515even when it wears off you still have chain blast on top of it too since you don't really have much reason to race change. It's pretty silly just how much lock down you can get off a single character in V
I wish... EO would give me loot like Wizardry does. >WizardryKill some enemies in the dungeon and what's that? OH SHIT. New treasure chest just dropped. Got to check if it's trapped (it is), alright, now for the thief to use an OUT OF COMBAT skill to do something. Go on thief, do your thing. Aaaand, the trap's dismantled and we got a cool new sword, a potion, and some gold. >EOThis treasure chest is always here. So much so, that you should absolutely pop it on your map, because it'll be here next time in your new game+. Did you get it? Alright, no more treasure until the next box, two floors up. Instead gather monster parts so that the shop can sell them back to you as a MonHun crafted weapon with a mark-up. And yes, I loved EOV for having non-combat skills to invest in. They should keep doing that.
>>477561865always thought it was weird that treasure chests can be labelled but it's kinda useless because you already got the item and there's no reason to go back to the treasure casket.you get non-combat skills in the other EOs but no one invests in them because they're either worthless or better used in a dedicated farming party, or your skill points are better spent on combat skills than floor skills. Meanwhile Wizardry priests just get Calfo by default on level up, and it only costs a level 2 spell charge
>>477561865The loot all being in chests for EO makes sense considering how hard it leans on the map building but I do get the complaint.
>>477560360You don't want a necromancer and rover in the same party, I made that post before knowing you had a rover. Necromancers really need all 3 slots of the summon line to function right. They're pretty fragile and really should be in the back row unless you want their coffin attacks to not get the melee penalty but that's not too important for them.
>>477563595Oh, my apologies. I should've mentioned the archer tax.>>477561865>And yes, I loved EOV for having non-combat skills to invest in. They should keep doing that.Agreed.
>>477567265Pumpkin golem
>>477567990Nope, just Olympia.
>>477558190Harbinger for frigid reap and defensive ailments. I've never tried it but I hear masurao can also work on a chain team with armor pierce and bolt slash. However Dragoon is also a solid choice.>>477557425Stick with the Upper build, but a point or two into thunder stab. I remember there being a normal enemy that resisted everything except volt and that skill really helped. Although if you already have an alchemist then you don't need to bother.
>>477574110Could I swap Shaman for a Harbinger and run both it and Dragoon? Or am I spreading my heals too thin?
>>477574642Not that anon but you definitely want shaman in a chain party for their AOE attack that decreases elemental resistance.
>>477575151Alright fair point. Didn't even think of that. I was simply thinking buffs. Well I suppose a Celestrian wpuld be better than a Brouni.
>>477561865I'll admit that having a thief class that can disarm random chests is cool, but I do NOT want EO to have RNG treasure chests. One of the main things I like about EO is that it doesn't have any RNG bullshit. I absolutely love the conditional drop system of the later games. You have to figure out how to get your rare drops as opposed to other games where you just have to grind until you get lucky and roll that 5% for the item you want to show up. There is still a bit of RNG with the normal drops and gathering, but those drop rates are all reasonable. As long as you're not speed running, you'll get em all by the time your done with the stratum. This is why even though they fixed grimoires to be non-cancerous in 2U I still don't approve of them, because they're essentially RNG treasure.
>*unzips 2 cat*>"psssh... nothing personnel...">*becomes the only 100% Human in the series to get straight up murdered by the party.*What did they mean by this?
When you beat the fifth stratum boss, do you immediately move onto the next game, do some of the postgame, or clear all of the postgame before moving on?
>>477582531Clear all of the postgame before moving on
>>477582531I usually clear the sixth stratum, but I did story mode on the untolds and dropped them as soon as I got all the scenes.
>>477574642Yes, of course you can, the game isn't that hard, I didn't run a shaman on my chain team and they did fine. But yeah, if we're theory crafting here, not running a shaman isn't optimal. In addition to the loss of shamen, there is also the loss of chain synergy by running two classes that can only contribute to chains situationally and never at the same time. Also, if you need more heals, you can consider swapping to dog rover.>>477575960Nah keep the Brouni for variety. Dance Oracle will do more damage with a celestrian but not that much, you're mainly using it for the one turn debuff not the initial damage (Mana Oracle however will do a lot more damage, but even then dance is still the better skill for a chain team so it doesn't matter). The extra luck for ailment resistance is pretty nice though. The Brouni however is a lot less frail and has herbology which is always useful. All in all, I'd say celestrian is probably still better but not by enough to worth the aesthetic loss of having to use a generic race portrait instead of a proper brouni shaman portrait.
>>477584802In addition to what you said about Brouni vs. Celestrian, he already has one celestrian for their union skills but would have no way to get the brouni ones if he switched.
>>477584802> but not by enough to worth the aesthetic loss of having to use a generic race portrait instead of a proper brouni shaman portrait.Fair enough, have to respect the portrait. Eitherway, you sold me on Shaman. Not just because of how good it is, but also because I want to use Hawk over Hound. Leads better off links, and it matches the portrait.Semi-related, I heard Phantom synergizes well with Chain Fencer. But from every run I've used it, it's pretty miserable. Is it worth the headache over just sucking up and using Dragoon?
>>477586261I used dragoon in a chain party thinking I'd set up buster cannon to fire off on the chain turn but it generally didn't work out since using move breaks the charge, and the clever strike warlock liked to dance back and forth for the chain turn. That said shields are still nice for when you aren't chaining.
>>477560001Omni and Elemancer are about even with each other in the long run, but Elemancer is stronger in the short term. What's really abusable about Elemancer is that Multistrike Ether allows you to fish for Windstorm's side effect on each hit and since Reserve Magic exists, you don't have to worry about it breaking chain.
>>477586261Make sure you get Ice Peck on rover. It'll procure two ice chains since it's two separate attacks: an ice aoe and stab aoe. With Chain All active that means two fencer follow-ups on a whole group of enemies. It's fantastic for the super boss and works even better with Hell Slash. Give your Shaman a bow too so their normal attacks can always give an easy chain for any element.
>>477595165Ah yeah, good idea. Love me some ice coverage. Especially since I heard Omnimancer is better spent maxing like 2 elements, and ice might get the short end of the stick.
>>477585214Yeah but the Brouni union skills all suck. Aegis shield is the only one with any use and thats only for when youre facing the superboss (in pretty much any other situation the Therian level 5 union is better because it comes with some damage) and even then its not mandatory.>>477586261Whoops, I completely forgot about phantom fencer, yeah they're also a great option, although I haven't actually tried the combo out yet. They should be able to trigger 2 chains per turn pretty frequently. The secret to making phantom fencers good is to not treat them like tanks.>>477587783Yeah, at the end of the day dragoon can't really contribute much to chain parties. They're just there to do their normal job of reducing damage. Buster cannon is nice and all, but unless theyre on a double dragoon party their main focus should still be damage reduction and not DPS. Honestly since he's running a 2/3 formation party I'd be tempted to recommend shield bearer dragoon.>>477597440Nah don't go wide like that, the EOV skill trees are way too hungry for that. Commit to ice on everyone, even the fencer doesn't want to fully max out all 3 chain element attacks.
>>477595165my god, why are these creatures just pure fucking sex.

Ok now that you mention it I'm going Ice/Stab to the moon.
>>477574110I have an alchemist so I'm fine there, how should I be building my alchemist anyway? I've built him to be maxxed out on all 3 solo-target element attacks.

>>477604480Hygeia Bowl sucks, it sounds a lot better than it really is. The fact that you need to have 4 able bodied characters to use it, means that in most of the situations where you'd want to use it you can't.>>477604856I mean, do at least get the fire/volt chains, fireball and lightning to at least level 5 before you start going all in on ice.>>477605348Max analysis and then do whatever you want. Alchemist is pretty straight forward.Personally I like fireball, ice lance, and lightning more than the AOE skills. Ive never tried a pain formula build, but that could be fun. Even if you don't do that pain formula build still put one point into light formula and tincture for some situational use in the post game.
>>477609067>exit RICKY

I'm going to start EOV for the first time, but looking at the skill trees I'm having a hard time planning out my party. How is binding Pugilist, offensive Harbinger, shield Dragoon, hound Rover, and smoke Botanist? My idea is to boost Leading Blow and Frigid Reap with binds and ailments and have the Botanist and Rover share healing duty.My other idea is Dance Oracle-focused Shaman, Frigid Reap Harbinger, Warlock, smoke Botanist, and shield Dragoon.
>>477617686Both teams sound good, the first one doesn't really need a dragoon though, since it has so many binds and ailments, but there's nothing wrong with being extra defensive and running one anyway. However this is NOT the team you want to run shield dragoon on, do cannon instead.
>>477609067>Take FLASK>Empty FLASK onto RICKY>Examine RICKYHopefully now she wont be sticky.
>>477620373I figured I would need shield Dragoon for bind removal, since smoke Botanist can't do it.
>>477558190I did pretty much that team but with hound rover and the last slot was an identical chain fencer to the first onewas pretty fun and my rp was that the two fencers were rivals

wtf, I think I downloaded a viru
>>477621046I mean, bind removal is nice, but its not THAT useful. I'd say it's more useful for dragoon to be able to do a big attack instead of just having ded turns when the FOEs are bound or confused. Besides, they can't bind you if pug and rover bind them first.Although now that I think about it, I suppose you could just use shield throw for that purpose, even though its not as good.
>>477621752If I was trying to stack commands I would have written them all on the same line.
