I've been enjoying IWP, i feel like they've struck a nice balance, it feels neither super grindy and bloated like analmeme nor super easy like vanilla CoC
The progression is nice, but the quest leave a lot to be desired
The world feels pretty dynamic so that kinda makes up for it

In the end I think vanilla stalker weapons are fine because the spread and power difference makes them feel more unique and have their own role.

Still not 100% sure on what headwear to get. I got a face mask & STALKER dogtag from last year and will try incorporating them into the outfit.

Any mod that recreates buildo stalker apart from OLR? I tried Lost World Origins and i can handle bad translations, but i gave up in agroprom when the burer started to walk vertically on the wall and killing me. The idea is very interesting and the many maps (some from previous soc builds) are good, how the fuck did they do working CoP detectors for anomalies in a shadow of chernobyl mod.
I'm currently downloading Oblivion Lost 3.1 (not OLR) which seems to be SoC with oblivion lost ideas and stuff.
I will wait until OLR 3.0 is improved but i would like to ask if anyone knows some good OL build mods for SoC that add more maps artefacts and so on.

Honestly part of the problem is lack of optimization. Developers now take advantage of people have SSD's and a shitload of RAM and other hardware to just brute force their unoptimized shit. UE5 is almost unplayable on anything but modern hardware because it has so much baked in effects that people can't disable, and then when you do it all looks like playdough and somehow looks worse than games on UE2 and 3. Devs don't give a fuck about making games that run well nowadays, a game is completely uncompressed and takes up hundreds of gigs on a hard drive just because it can. If you complain about that you're hit with people calling you poor, but it's the principle of the fucking thing. The bloat and poor performance is absurd nowadays. My hardware is

Stalker CoP is the worst game on the trilogy.
The story is stupid narratively and metanarratively.
Narratively because it is lineal as fuck, playing as a millitary who returns to the zone as a disguised stalker only to complete an already established mission, no real obstacles apart from reuniting a team for the incursion to pripyat gives you incentive to search the map for any reason (take for example SoC where you needed either to pay 500 to the millitary to tresspass the bridge, or find another way through the electric tunnel or the open fence at the east, or in CS where the renegades blocked your way out of the swamps) .The final plot twist of why the helicopters crash is super anticlimactic, and it sucks metanarratively, we the player already knew that the anomalies changed durig emissions, and the stalkers inside the zone also knew it! Then why the fuck do we have to investigate something that we already knew? both the player and stalker? Do the millitary don't have information that a newbie stalker has? Also the fact that there are no random anomalies scattered around the zone, instead we have already marked anomaly zones with artefacts, transforming the game into open world slop where you run around with a gun and do minigames for artefacts to sell instead of being in a harsh zone where everything is deadly and you develop spatial recognition for where anomalies that you already found before are, going around throwing bolts to survive and find artefacts by yourself instead of having it already on your PDA.
If stalker 2 tries to be more like CoP instead of doing an impredictable, dangerous, deadly zone where you need to develop real skills to survive then it will be the last hit to the franchise, burying it around misery niggers and survivalslop fans.

Shadows Addon is decent besides some bumps in the late game. Grand Rendering Mod is similar but has a lot more cut content and AI behavior. Unfortunately GRM has more bugs from my experience with the mod. Both are worth a try but I wouldn't play them back to back since it's identical to vanilla SOC's campaign like Oblivion Lost 3.1

It wouldn't require a PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD to load the assets because the game would smartly load them in a way where a SATA3 SSD would be more than enough for a good experience. It wouldn't require Ryzen 9 7950X3D because the code would be well written and optimized so that the i7-10700KF would be more than enough juice to run it.

Because that's the meaning of optimization, the game can perform acceptably on lower end hardware and take full advantage of higher end hardware. But because modern day gamedev is a joke, Cities Skylines 2 ran at 66FPS at 1080p with an RTX 4090 at medium settings. You don't get to use the "just upgrade bro" excuse when the top of the line GPU on the market can barely hit stable 60FPS in fucking 1080p.

It's pretty simple. Unreal is designed to push out a game to the market in a hermetic package. Any modding capabilities have to be supplied by the developers for them to catch on. In case of X-Ray, modding is trivial, the engine is basically blown out wide open, and all the tools needed for it are widely available. Same with Bethesda's Creation Engine, it's why they still hold onto it despite it being a mess, because modders are a big part of their success. Unreal games are bound to fail on the modding part by the very nature of Unreal.

As someone who is on their first ever SoC playthrough, vanilla early game is absolute dogshit.
The late game gunplay is solid, but trying to fight with just a Makarov and double barrel or mp5 is fucking torture. Bullets will literally exit the gun at a 90 degree angle, and unless you can get a headshot (you can't) enemies are bullet sponges no matter what.

SRP itself makes the guns as accurate as SoC/CoP ones, which is not stellar, but it's still an improvement. You also have STCS which adds more guns, and they're fitting it with the rest.

These mods do allevate some of the issues, bullets going 90 degrees from the direction of your barrel is gone, and so are grenade spam and jacket wearing bandits taking 20 5.45 rounds to the chest. Pretty sure friendly squads also capture territory quicker, but I'd still not get too deep into faction warfare. The ending is still an endless gauntlet of enemies, so if you're willing to put up with that shit know the game is otherwise great.

yeah, I've installed it and am gonna play a few hours in the swamps to see if I get in the groove of it, so to say. Though IIRC swamps fucking sucked. If you can provide a cordon or garbage save, I would be extremely grateful. can't see how good the gunplay is unless I actually get to use the rebalanced weapons, of which the swamp does not have a lot of.
Who knows, maybe replaying Clear Sky will get me into a more positive mood about Stalker 2. Replaying ShoC and CoP Gunslinger really got me back into the series that I played more than a decade ago.

Sadly no, although some pistols (mostly .45 and some HATO ones) have a real kick. I found the UMP 45 to be a great primary weapon I used for most of the game. However it sucks against zombified so switch to a 5.45/5.56 when in Yantar.

I've been replaying Clear Sky for the past hour or so and I'm not impressed with the new weapons arsenal. Sure, the rebalanced gunplay is nice and the new weapons handle OK but I feel like I'm playing a Souce mod from 2012. The guns don't have that "stalker" feel to them. They're just a mishmash of different guns of different eras with differing model and animation quality. You can shit on gunslinger all you want but the weapons and animations are consistent throughout.

Are you using Atmosfear and AN? If so you may have set the options to high (or the damn things sat on high by default), and those a quantum supercomputer couldn't run on stable 60. Uninstalling the mods is safe and their readmes should have guides on how to do so (it's pretty simple). You can reinstall them and try setting the range and texture quality to medium/normal.

I agree that too much jank will derail the whole thing, as I said in the original message. But the atmosphere you talk of is (in part) so acclaimed thanks to the jank present in the games. Stalkers spinning in circles and ragdolls spasming out contrasting with the foreign and oppresive environment helped create a very memorable experience for those playing. You can even claim the vanilla guns are a complete mishmash when it comes to quality as well. You have some pretty good guns, for example the double barreled shotguns feel and sound powerful when firing, but then again the Chaser's barrel is not aligned with the crosshair. You also have some pretty good assault rifles, but then there are the pistols which all use the same sounds and animations and are held in a pretty uncomfortable way, with Strelok cradling the bottom of them for some reason.
Pay attention to some of the things I mentioned:

There's some noticeable difference in the quality across the guns in the mod, but I don't consider it a big deal.
As for the performance try lowering vision distance and object detail to half, those affect it the most, and you won't see any real difference in the visuals.

Get yourself a nice G36 or a VAL. One of the reasons I like Shadow of Chernobyl so much is that there's a feel of buildup especially to the endgame and you 100 percent should prepare accordionly. Thing is though, man, ShoC should really have a way to increase inventory capacity either through artifacts or suit upgrades and allow exosuit to sprint even if slowly. Prepping for the CNPP push is fuck hard even if you come back from the Radar back to the BAP for a restock.

I think you misunderstand. The entire story of ShoC is based around Marked One finding out that he is indeed STRELOK and that C-Con mistakenly gave him the mission to go after himself since he knew too much.
My suggestion was to have both Messer and Strelok exist as two separate entities in the game, that would at the end be revealed to be the same character. Similar to Jason Bourne or any other character that suffers amnesia and has to unravel his origins and past deeds during the story.

The issue with gaymma is that it doesn't feel like a stalker game, nor like a stalker mod. It feels like escape from tarkov if someone made a stalker themed mod for it. And while I'm all for stalker themed mods for different games, playing only gaymma and screeching about how it's the best Stalker experience (like some gaymma fans do) is retarded, and would be akin to me telling you that MoWAS2 with stalker mods is literally the best Stalker experience, even though it's a literal mod for a fucking RTS game and completely different from actual stalker in all aspects.

To expand on the Tarkov accusation, well, it's just true. You have an incredible item bloat, shitty and soulless modern UI, tacticool reload animations, tacticool guns with 381 attachments on them, canted scopes, lasers, NVGs, thermal scopes... Although that does sound pretty fun to play with as a Merc, right? Wrong! The gaymma devs decided to ruin that as well, and introduce an incredibly retarded progression system where you have to spend genuine dozens of hours just to slightly progress. All of the things I mentioned before are only achievable if you spend at least ~40-50 hours of pure grind as your character. And the incredibly weird and needlessly complicated repair system doesn't help either.

Oh, and don't forget, Ironman is basically unplayable because of how unbalanced mutants are. A blind dog will always one hit kill you in the early game.

TL;DR: gaymma is a good stalker-themed Escape From Tarkov mod, but a horrible stalker game.

Clear Sky is pretty awful to replay, even with mods. ShoC and CoP aged much better.
I got to the dark valley and have no intention to continue playing. The swamps were at least a *new* location that I had fun re-exploring, but now the game just feels like endless fetch quests and the faction war adds nothing of any significance.

Yeah the Clear Sky Swamps are nice. I enjoy the swamps, the skeuomorphic hud, the blueish-tinted UI, weapon and outfit upgrades, Clear Sky faction armors, more lived-in feeling bases and the atmosphere in Swamps...

What I did NOT like though is that Clear Sky feels very dead and scripted. And what I mean is that if you go to a place that will be a mission location like the Cordon factory, or the Dark Dolina factory above X-18 etc it's all empty and deserted until you get the quest to do things and then the enemies just spawn in place. You have to follow the script to the letter and it's pretty exhausting because the maps are mostly really empty when you're just following the story. The mutant squads are all marked on the map and emissions despawn most of the NPC squads so those are just mandatory timeouts from gameplay. Horribly horribly boring. The game world feels really artificial and everything and everyone feels like they're just waiting for you to come so they get the permission to do things. Meanwhile both SoC and CoP to a lesser extent feel like the game world progresses, evolves and characters do things on their own. There is danger and excitement in the world, especially SoC. It's unrefined but it's exciting and chaotic. I watched a non-stalker streamer go afk in CORDON of all places to go on the toilet and while he was gone there was a random battle between loners, dogs and bandits even though he left when things were calm.

It's funny, in Clear Sky GSC was learning to do things ''better'' by introducing more scripted and controlled sequences, more in-engine cutscenes, less ''chaotic'' feel to the game but really that made the game so ungodly BORING. Same with a lot of the touted ''incredibly atmospheric'' side quests from CoP like the Chimera hunt.. GSC learned to make bad versions of AAA game setpieces..

Shadow of Chernobyl is a great example of the meme image ''Task failed successfully''. I doubt it's utterly chaotic spawns, all the ways you could sequence break it and / or otherwise go off script were intended by the gamedevs for the most part but that was part of the secret sauce that would make Shadow of Chernobyl incredibly magical. It's got the same energetic game feel to it as the original Half Life in a good way that when you know the game you can style your way through it like a tornado especially in vanilla. Feels like you're some slavic version of Arnie in Commando. This is the chief reason why it's so infinitely more replayable for me. Oh yeah and the bleak atmosphere that was very close to Metro in a good way, all those prop corpses of stalkers that had decayed inside their suits and the like. Almost completely absent from later entries and CoP esp was so ridiculously sanitized I laughed in what was supposed to be a somber moment when you find Joker's corpse which is a clean white skeleton completely clotheless and the pda item lying on the grass.

In addition on replays and such when you know bits of the game from memory it's nice to go like ''Oh yeah I know there's this this and this that I grab here while I'm around, I can take a little little detour here and get this'' etc, while in Clear Sky no, you can't do that shit most of the time unless you have the pre-requisite quest to go and do the thing!

I can shit on some CoP quests too especially the lame ones that have next to no combat in a game already with too little combat but to Call of Pripyat's credit a lot of the quests can be resolved in a number of different ways that can then influence later events or the game world subtly / tie into other quests. It's not some Macchiavellian web of intrigue but it adds enough spice, believability and immersion to the game world.

Shadmen of Chernobyl has that thing going with some of it's placed-in world stashes that you can do and it's.. I wouldn't say Shadow of Chernobyl is amazingly open ended in the way you can tackle the quests, you're effectively in a big pipe that's in a deep ditch. But there are big enough sections of the pipe missing that you can outside the pipe for a while and occasionally there's a T intersection so you don't feel too boxed in.

In Clear Sky you're firmly in the pipe the whole time.

Yeah, CoP has major issues too like the aforementioned lack of shooting at human enemies and while the maps themselves are relatively substantial and freeroamyish, the fact that they're completely isolated from one another without some connecting levels between them is fairly unforgivable. The game world map should've formed a triangle of the larger maps and then there should've been a smattering of Clear Sky swamps style more action-packed connecting levels in between. Zaton is too open, the Jupiter plant is barely used and in freeroam almost no one goes there except into that tiny closed-off bit to the side.

The jumping distance isn't really that big a deal given that every puzzle of sorts involving jumping is made with that distance in mind.

Now height is another story. Fucker can't jump for shit, and nothing really seems to affect that. I once ran a kit that was an upgraded wind of freedom suit with 4 bubbles, and while I could run from one end of a map to the next with no lose of stamina, my dude still couldn't jump for shit. Maybe variations on jump height like that are harder to program, but I'd still like to see a mod that tries.

I'm playing it for the first time right now and I'm a decent ways in. It's okay. It turns Stalker into more of a horror themed adventure game than anything. There isn't as much gunplay and because there are so few NPCs, no real A-life shenanigans. It's interesting enough, but it doesn't feel like "real" Stalker which is what I love the most. What's maddening to me is that when people shit on Clear Sky a lot of the criticism is ''non-stop combat'' and I'm so weirded out because to me that was definitely not the problem, the issue was as I laid out, how dead and artificial the game world is.

It's same as Dark Souls 2, the ''enemy spam'' was never my problem but the game has an extremely unenjoyable game feel and movement / attacking that feels ''off''.

Most of the camps don't respawn in place which causes all those NPC migrations across maps which causes fun incidental gunfights. And I personally believe the ATP gets reinforced from the dark valley level changer in offline a-life but I could be wrong. Irregardless that would be the exception that makes the rule then imo.

Like when you've destroyed the bandit camp in dark valley or the military outpost in Agroprom you notice those enemies traveling across the levels to refill their posts. You can even run into military at the Garbage and Cordon traveling towards Agroprom after you do that. Which creates a lot of incidental firefights across multiple groupings.

That's not true, though.

is exactly what happens in CS. You clear out the map, new NPCs spawn in a certain place, usually on their base, and then travel across the whole level to take back lost territories. They don't just immediately respawn where they died and stay there indefinitely, not moving at all.
This is why you can sometimes see bandits taking over the road to Garbage in Agroprom, occasional Freedom or Duty squads travelling through Garbage, said factions sharing the same camp with a squad of loners and so on.
They do move between locations, the thing is in CS it's tied to the faction wars and NPCs just travel to closest unoccupied camps, stay there until it becomes overpopulated, and then excess squads travel to a different spot, while in SoC it's somewhat more chaotic.

The faction war mechanic is kinda interesting in the maps where it is taking place but the downside is that the faction wars are really most limited to Garbage unless you're Freedom or Duty in which case it goes to Agroprom or Dark Valley depending on who you're fighting for.

It could be cool if uhh.. it applied to more maps and more of the maps were actual battlegrounds like the Swamps. They should've also included Wild Territory / Rostok to make the experience less linear.

The most fun I had with Clear Sky was with The Faction War mod which puts more emphasis on well, the war between the groupings.

The first two are practically a non-issue in the patch of the game i played, the biggest issue i would say is the gigantic backtracking which was already present in the older versions but now multiplied. It literally plays like vanilla except you have all the games' maps and factions with the ability to play as each of them and so on. Also has a lot of mods for quests, dynamic faction relations, warfare and so on.

Kryptek Typhon is just the tactical equivalent to RGB gamershit, the vest you are using is the cheapest possible clone of the Eagle TAC-V1 instead of the M22 Tarzan of the ingame mercs, and a gas mask is vital for the Stalker aesthetic, even if facemask models exist as well. If you're going to follow the ingame models, you're way fucking off, and if you're doing your own thing, like that one anon said, you look more like a generic airsofter than a Stalker merc.

For the record, it should be said that airsoft kiddies are in general looked down upon as cringe in cons, and there's a good reason for it. Your low-effort setup will not be an exception.

Funnily enough, I've actually made a a Monolith setup as well, and even a Clear Sky kit, using Yugoslavian blue fatigues as the base. Though again, it's not based on the ingame models so there are no SOVLFUL brown reinforcements on my fatigues.

That is actually what I was going for, admittedly. Theoretically I could build a close to 1:1 setup of the ingame models; but the problem is that due to the game being fairly old, they lack a fair lot of detail, mostly due to the age of the game. It works well enough on screen; but IRL at the end of the day without much detail it'll look quite dull.

The funny thing is, I just realized you're right on that. Not a single character model in the entire series has a hat, besides Forester with his ushanka. Not sure if you care that much, but that hat I'm wearing is actually a legit 90s era Chechenka. Most of the kit I generally use for these is primarily old school Soviet or Chechen era Russian stuff. I personally think the Stalker aesthetic and feel is generally about embodying the 90s post-soviet misery. Guns shouldn't be primarily be tacticooled to hell and back ARs, but simple AKs; if there's some accessories they should be most definitely from the Chechen or even Afghan era.

I started playing it. It's funky and sorta janky but I like it. I definitely get what they mean when they say it's closer to the book. A lot less emphasis on guns and NPC's, a lot more emphasis on anomalies and stealth. Guns are almost a last resort against mutants. If you like Stalker for the spontaneous gunfights that break out between different factions or any of the straightforward FPS aspects then you will not enjoy Goldsphere. The Zone is an empty, dreadful place with a few stalkers creeping around and avoiding the military.
Like I said it's sorta janky. It's my first time playing any mod that changed the story or added missions so I don't know how it stacks up against others, but I imagine this would probably be considered relatively polished.

Personally, in a way it's exactly what I was looking for in a Roadside Picnic adaptation, or at least it's the closest I'll ever get. The Zone isn't a battlefield, it's a bizarre uninhabitable wasteland full of dangers you can't fight.

I actually stopped playing it because of that. Stalker's framework just isn't set up for that kind of almost purely exploration game. Jumping and platforming is kind of janky and jumping around looking for a way into things or a way to reach them is too much of the game for me. Not ingame, they do not, you're right on that. I'm in the camp who doesn't make 1:1 setups that are attempting to clone the ingame models straight up; but rather attempts to go for a more "realistic" look while still attempting to keep the aesthetic. The ingame Monolith kit would simply be urban camo fatigues with brown reinforcements, and an M22 Tarzan vest. It's doable, but not the look I am going for here. As for the cape, it's a plash-platka, a Soviet tent quarter cut up into an improvised sniper's cloak.

The model isn't based on any specific ingame model, but rather this fanart here, though I don't have the handicraft skills necessary to build a Gauss rifle, even if we all do have fond memories of the Monolith gauss snipers in Pripyat.

This stuff isn't really all random, but rather most of it is quite consistent and has seen quite a lot of use in Chechenya in the 90s, which seems to be the primary aesthetic the Stalker devs were chasing. And while it's not hand-crafted, most of the stuff is fairly hard to find as well and took me a good while to find, because I wanted something specific that could've actually seen some use in the Zone with the Zone aesthetic. I could give some examples but I don't it really matters that much.

Plus I do really like stolk - I recall spending dozens of hours combing through Koan's gift in the early 2010s, and hand-translating a variety of weird fucking Russian forums trying to get a better understanding of the lore. I think it's kind of harsh to say I have no love for stolk.

But there isn't. There being spooky things people don't understand and are afraid of in the lore doesn't mean that the games were every supposed to be nonstop environmental horror about isolation. Anon, I'm pretty sure Gamma is the epitome of tacticool slop, and about as far from exploring a strange wasteland as possible. Gamma is cancer in many ways, but I'd find it pretty weird to describe it as a quiet walk through a world where the laws of physics have broken utterly; when the focus of that modpack seems to be to add tactical rifles and to kill shit dead with no further overarching plot or suspense.

Also, there are a fair lot of popular mods that are far older than Gamma, in which the focus is in the journey through the Zone, and not in constant gunfighting. Fotograf and Goldsfera to name two.

It's not really mucg to do with the game's age but rather effort. Between the old builds and SoC GSC actually made a pretty impressive amount of models and variations but they actually got way worse in Clear Sky and CoP, with Loners for example going from having a ton of different face covering variations to basically having two variations for the sunrise suit guy.

Freedom, Duty, Monolith all got less variety than the SoC faction.

But the point was more than realistically and THEMATICALLY stalkers, especially free stalkers, bandits and mercenaries who don't belong in the specific elite outfits would mix and match and have all kinds of different gear setups and jury-rigged equipment etc. We hopefully see more of that in ctankep dva because not only does it make sense but it makes it more fun.

Far Cry 3's first act is still very very substantial. Or maybe it felt like that because I went through the trouble of doing all the checkpoints and shit. In the end it was still worth it to play through the whole thing for Citra haha.
