Haven't gotten through even a quarter of the DLC yet but a thought struck me from the 'Messmer's younger sister' tidbit. The obvious conclusion is that this is Melina but another thought in my head is is it possible they have a similar dynamic to Marika/Radagon and Miquella/Trina where Messmer and Marika are two halves that are both the same and separate? Miquella was able to separate himself from Trina and it's shown that Marika is still around even after Radagon dies so it feels possible Along with that are also other things like Mesmer is based on serpents and flame, Melina possibly has the powers of the GEQ, meaning black flame and some relation to serpents (godskins with serpentine characteristics) as well as Messmer and Melina both having a seal of grace on their powers. Not to mention both of them being unknown to history, like Marika kept them both secret. The theory is probably bullshit since I came up with it in like 2 minutes with some loose tidbits of lore from the DLC but I think it's an interesting idea.

The DLCs for 3 even posit the cyclical nature of the world/middleground approach in that ashes goes out of its way to say "well sometimes the world grows stagnant and you have to let that shit burn but also to make a new world maybe don't get so into fire" from the painter loli and ringed city presents you going so far forward in time you're in an ashen wasteland completely removed from "fire vs dark" and the final solution in setting is to take the dark soul of man (which while related is not about the first flame) and starting over with the painting. On paper the games present you with "the fire fading is bad go fix that" but taken as a whole none of the games ever outright say that the fire cycle is inherently good or the best thing for the world. Any apocalyptic notions from people are in universe.

Messmer is a great fight, clear tells on all his moves, fast as fuck but has downtime you can hit him, ridiculous visuals on those snake attacks, just wonderful work on that boss. I even got the killing blow with a deflect guard counter on one of his spear strikes, felt beautiful.

>BayleHoly fuck. More than most other bosses he feels really RNG. some of his attacks have windows, others barely. If he spams the high window attacks, like the bite, you can easily do it. If he doesnt, well get fucked I guess. Pretty cool fight though. His moves are all relatively easy to dodge and telegraphed, just small windows to attack.
