I think I figured it out. The reason why the Haligtree failed to grow into an Erdtree in the first place is not just because the stars were in stasis, or that Miquella left his cocoon, it's because Miquella attempted to ascend to godhood in the first place.To ascend to complete godhood would mean that he would have to become an adult, and Shadow of the Erdtree's grace markers are essentially showcasing Miquella's journey to adulthood by showing everything he is giving up for more power which will leave him a "caged divinity" as Trina says because in the process of becoming an adult for strength he forgets and loses his reasons for gaining it.From the perspective of the lore writers perhaps the reason why the Tarnished isn't chosen as his Consort in the end of this "DLC" is because he abandoned his love, kindness and other aspects of his humanity, and chose the strongest available demi-god to make into a meat puppet out of fear and cold rationality. The Tarnished wasn't an option because they had an innate immunity to his charms, and if all that is left is his survival brain he would grow paranoid if the Tarnished wasn't under his control. This is vaguely reminiscent of the first era of the Golden Order with Godfrey, where Marika chose him because of his might and bound him to Serosh whilst granting him a new name.

I played one prior to the DLC for a while with the Serpentbone Katana, poison pots, poison repeating crossbow, etc. and had a good time, but now that there's a much more viable Ash of War for popping poison that I can put on a secondary weapon I'm interested in trying again.

Counters imply you strike someone during their startup animation for attack, you can only do this move when you block your opponent's attack. They work best on greatshields as one handed attacks from enemies ricochet. Smaller shields have the issue of making you guess if the enemy has finished their attack strings.

I don't really like the perfumes, they either tear through enemies or are nearly ineffective. Hard to combo them together because few of them share any scaling except dex, except the PvP madness one. Can't do things like backstab. Only one of them has a unique ash of war and it's the fucking poison one which exists only to proc poison buffs.
