beat the elden beast for the first time today (no torrent) and I don't see what so many people complained about. it was an extremely fair and very beautiful spectacle fight. the running away schtick served a purpose for its attacks and solved a major flaw of dragon fights with the hacking away at its ankles for 5 minutes shit. its attacks were slow and infrequent but complex enough to be engaging on the run back to it, and it always gave me enough time to chunk its health before it ran away again. overall it was one of my favourite fights.

I'm gonna say it... dark souls 2 had cooler areas. Elden Ring areas are too samey and you see the same enemies everywhere. Windmill Village is one of the creepiest places I've ever seen though.
