Using AI voice acting for localization is always permissable. That's already a headache.

There is an entire gaming sub-industry based on emotional manipulation, luring people into spending money for no gain.
Where do I learn more about the mechanics of emotional manipulation?

I want to make (or most likely copy) a game that will be genuinely fun to play, but I want to plant a seed into player's head so that at some point some "revelation" strikes them like a hammer. Just imagine that one moment you smile, enjoying the game, and a second later you suddenly feel that the world is a joyless place and you are wasting your time in front of a screen to numb yourself with no hope of ever achieving happiness — that's what I want to deliver.

Despite its sudden popularity, I didn't buy it or even wishlist it after the trailer. It just feels so soulless. The characters barely react and the voiceacting is so devoid of emotion.

My biggest problem with Poker Night at the Inventory is that the characters often look devoid of emotion and just stare blankly at each other. However, by comparison, it is leagues ahead since when characters aren't just staring off into space, the voice acting carries it.

There's aspects about it I like. If I had to critique it I'd say it seems a bit confusing what the game actually is. Maybe it is to others. I don't know what a survivor like deck builder is that otherwise has real time combat. We basically only see one area in the preview. So I have no idea the scope, or really what it's about. But again I could just be old. Overall I mostly enjoy the art. I also wouldn't write "with heart" in the description. I the viewer, will determine if it has heart, you should not tell me that.

Okay, I have a serious question. Do you think I could get an artist to do the art for my game, UI, Backgrounds, character art, some animations etc for like $10,000?

I'm planning on using mid journey to gen some more consistent art with a unified style and then pixelating it and removing the color with a simple sweep of a few filters. I'm going to need a lot of art so I definitely want an artist that can do quantity sketches over fiddling with each portrait for 80% more time investment.

If I had to guess numbers I'd guess probably around 1500 portraits, 200 monsters, and idk how many display art scenes. I could up the money too but I think literally just completing the game with AI and then trying to get an artist on board might be a better option.

It's unfortunately not easy to find artists because they're heavily in demand but paid prices below other professions, so the only people who become artists do it for the freedom it gives and out of passion and because it's a fucking pain trying to find artists to make exactly what you want.
That's still not $7 of art but there'll be some Russian out there who's willing to at least try at that price. I've gotten art for about that price and had it been good, though that's non-commercial and there's no way the artist would do more than a few pieces at that price. If you can scope down the number of assets you need it's achievable.

The main advantage of using placeholders here is that if you change the dimensions of the art, you don't then have to ask the artist to resize all of it, or account for extra changes (use of color being linked to card effects, art having icons above certain parts of it so it can't be seen, the artstyle in relation to UI and other stuff)
You can make placeholders without AI but, sure, it doesn't matter what a game's alpha looks like. You sound a lot like Card Artisan dev who started out with AI but eventually hired some cheap artist. No idea how that went.

The thing I'd say about AI art is that if you were the only person making a game with AI art, it'd sell superbly. The problem is everyone else is also doing that and now you're fighting to not look like 10,000 shitty soulless games that got bashed out in a third world country somewhere, so any artstyle at all will be an improvement, don't get comfy with the AI. The most powerful part of getting your own art will be consistency and the art actually fitting its purpose. If you have a card game and make a card that moves the character you can design a card that feels like that would be what it does just from its art. I have a horizontal movement card and I designed the art very horizontally, with colors related to the game's UI about movement, with related iconography.

I have a defined plan. I'm basically structuring the game in the same way I'd structure a tabletop campaign using the design principles outlined in the book Arbiter of Worlds. Though instead of a hex map I prefer point crawls. I feel like a lot of games do large scopes because they're unfocused like what you said. There's a reason I'm not including crafting, or fishing, or random mini games for skills like lickpicking and dialogue, or spellcrafting, or random generation, or anything like that. I'm actually going to use premade character selections instead of a character creation system as well even though that's pretty risky in my opinion.

I'm entirely focused on a single player D&D sandbox that's isolated in a few adjacent regions, with several villains that operate on world clocks for their schemes. I'm staying within the 1-7 level range, and I'm leaning towards pregens so that the selected main character can have ties to the region and other characters that actually add diverse gameplay.

A lot of modern fantasy slop is just bad. It's a lack of experience and ideas, but it's also just heavily based on execution.

The worst sort of games in my opinion tend to be inspired by other games. Pitches like "dwarf fortress but with rats." Or a tweaked oc version of a game people like, like dark souls or whatever instead of actually steming from design experience and having a vision.

I am a good animator, but I cannot character designer, and I'm almost entirely self taught for drawing. I agree that it's not good to be hugboxed, but I also don't think I'm going to be able to do much about the issue.

depends on the framerate/total number of frames per second. Try something slower, like 24 fps but animated on 2s (each frame is held for 2 seconds, unless its an action frame or something)

you need to learn the wonderful concept of corrective blend shapes.

I eventually figure out I can basically rig the nose, and the cheeks to separate bones, and then create a profile animation and 3/4 animation on the face.
Then just create a separate animation tree that blends those animations based on player angle towards the camera.

Current project is going well, added a game over thing with win conditions. Basically what is left is:

>Replacing the main models with something better

>Smaller effects for stuff like birds

>Localization
I'd say most of it is done at this point. Still a bit to go in my opinion, but a majority of the backend stuff with the debugging is done, it's more so adding some stuff and making sure it doesn't break what is already there
