I'm gonna say it. I actually kinda like the combat. I find the DP/HP system somewhat interesting, and there's a bit of a feel to rotating your characters out til you can set up your combo. It rewards learning boss patterns so you can get by on that razor's edge, and bursting something down always feels satisfying. The dungeon exploration is awful though.

So, very specific question: Does DEX specifically increase damage to DP gauges or is it just that skills that do increased DP damage scale off of DEX? A lot of my current DP gauge damage comes from Tenne (don't ask, my luck is shit) whose best skill has an unusual INT scaling to it, so idk if it's better for me to stack INT or DEX on her if I wanna break bars.

And if you need a separate unit to break, random debuffers like fire Megumi they will release soon can pop it like nothing, it's almost never a problem, except for a few specific exceptions. So the actually pointless role is breakers, their niche is not necessary. Blasters are super good. The best ones are stronger than most attackers, the weaker ones are still great supports because they up your HP damage a lot.

Debuffing with an attack will place a debuff first, then the attack will go through. Almost all of the end game bosses are like that. They have very normal, manageable DP pools and insanely bloated HP pools. You're powerlevel is still relatively low, so that's why you think DP is an issue. It's not.
Elemental rings seem kinda... Shitty. I assume they're the absolute top end but they seem super not worth it at least initially since they have balanced stats rather than a STR or DEX bias. Unless like 5% increased damage is worth more than 12 STR? I have no idea how to judge this.
