This is done because the big bad evil(s), the Shadow Man and Dr. Monty, cannot be stopped without the previous crews meeting their end. This is due to them having been exposed to such much Element 115 that their mere existance causes chaos and disruption to the fabric of reality. However, the major element to BO3's zombies story is that the Primis crew used the Summoning Key (McGuffin) to kill their alternate reality selves (not Ultimis) to preserve their souls and send them to a safe realm. Long story short, this does not work and everyone but Eddie and Samantha are killed.Back to the BO4 ending. Everyone but Nikolai, Samantha and Eddie are dead. Nikolai tells Samantha to kill him so she shoots him in the head. The OG crew are now completely dead and the last thing we see is Samantha and Eddie walking towards "a new dawn" which turns out to be the universe we are in now. The Samantha and Edward at the end of Tag Der Toten are the same as we have now, in the DA story. Important detail is that neither of them remember that all of this happened, but it is implied that Richtofen remembers some of it.The Dark Aether is the conglomeration of every multiverse from before the collapse, a hellish dimension of malevolent entities and whatnot. During WW2 the nazis managed to open a gateway to the Dark Aether using an experimental particle accelerator which lead to breaches into this evil dimension being opened and all the nazi's being killed and later reanimated. While many like to say this is an act of vengeance done to get back at Weaver for killing Richtofen's family (accidentally FYI, Richtofen was the actual target) it is more complex than that.Richtofen has always been a scheming man and since this "version" of him is the same as the child in Tag Der Toten one can practically assume that his sinister traits are still present, somewhat. BO6 maps are hot garbage in comparison and there's barely anything fun to unlock. The JAK range of gun mods in MW3 were way more fun to unlock and experiment with than anything in BO6 so far.
