In the end, all of the people except the girl in the image pass onto the afterlife, except she decides she wants to see the world as a ghost before passing on.So I wouldn't really say it's the same thing.

The problem with the open world in Ys is that basically every island was the same short copy paste waste time. Making the game open world added nothing other than to waste your time and give falcom an excuse to pad the game with terrible content. I really disliked X, the new combat is fun but it does not save how awful the rest of the game is.
