I now stand in a position of having to choose between
1. I stop going any further and do the bare minimum. 1 year later I'm done with my game and can move onto a new game.
2. I go the full dream and finish it 2.5 years later.
Sunk cost fallacy requires I pick one or the other. However this is worsened by opportunity cost. I may not be able to shake off sunk cost fallacy entirely but I can reduce its effects. For example let's use a realistic view that leans towards the pessimistic side regarding the outcome of the two possibilities above.

That's an extra $46,000 for an additional 1.5 years of effort. Sure it reduces my losses but the opportunity cost is there. What if I went with option 1 and started development of a new game? I could manage a new project much better with all the knowledge I've gained. That could be 1.5 years towards development of a new game with better odds of success. It makes me question whether option 2 is even worth it at all. I really have to think about this carefully since that's a good chunk of additional development time that could be better used on a new game. So much to consider.

Don't think I actually found it fun to develop for most of the time besides short spurts. I think only tiny small game's can have this novelty and fun in the development process, games that take maybe 1 to 3 months max to development. Maybe even a game that you just know is gmi. It's pretty fun to develop when you know there's a crowd of 100,000 people ready to buy it on day 1 for full price.

Of the 4 I think the last one is the worst reason to give up since I can see a gmi game not being fun to develop. You won't get to experience the game the same way people who aren't spoiled to its every secret will. Even if it's going to succeed, should you finish it, it doesn't change the fact you have to go through the trouble of making it first.

My game has a minigame where you have to make sense of a bunch of garbage text, kind of like the board game Mad Gab. Honestly, I didn't even like it at first and was thinking about removing it, but I got some positive comments from people who played it, so I figured I'd leave it in. But I'm definitely going to add some new level styles, so there's more than just fixing garbage text. I had an idea for a level that was kind of like a text-based game, except instead of typing in what you want the character to do, the character's actions have already been performed, and you have to select the right words to complete them.

Good point but where I land on the market heavily depends on if I take option 2. The second option make's my game appeal to a small niche with a massively undeserved audience looking for gameplay like this. This tiny audience in turn shills it to larger audience which comes flocking in. That extra development time is the difference that makes me stand out. Though I'm heavily demoralized now.

held torches emit light + your "eyes adjust to the darkness" after a few seconds when you put your torch away (little bluish light)

behind the scenes:

I think it's fine as long as you make something, even if it's only a little bit it adds up over time and it makes it easier to get stuff done in the future.
The hardest step is the first one. If you can, draw a mockup of your UI or write a list of features you can break down into small tasks because anything is better than staring at an empty screen.
