I was pretty unfamiliar with modded minecraft and I started GTNH blindly only playing a bit of tekkit beforehand but still made it at least up to mid LV before looking anything up (mostly why my EBF was failing). The quest book does a really good job and the wiki has a lot of early game tips that make it easier. Just remember to always craft more than you need and search NEI every time you unlock a new tool or machine to see if you have a better way of crafting something. Also another tip: if you're worried about wasting materials on an inefficient recipe remember that there will always be more resources. Resource availability will grow exponentially with each age. If processing the optimal path is hogging up all of your infrastructure and takes a long time, use the simple path!

Start with power production. You'll need it for the other 2. Power to keep the cobble line running and fuel with an appropriate generator for the autominer. I'm not the best person to ask since I have never used KubeJS myself, but from my understanding it brings world interaction customizability only a mod could provide without a need for programming knowledge

Can't tell, I'm knowledgeable about modding 1.7.10 in particular and there is no CraftTweaker for 1.7.10. MineTweaker is an older version of the same mod that modpack makers use and it's vastly inferior not only to KubeJS but CraftTweaker as well. CraftTweaker allows custom Event scripting which brings it closer to KubeJS, MineTweaker doesn't have this functionality and lets you change only what the mod officially supports, with the list being painfully limited. This makes modpacks very hard or sometimes impossible to fine-tune without modding knowledge which most modpack makers don't have, and some packs actively depend on said fine-tuning. I'll rephrase a bit, a KubeJS OR CraftTweaker backport would make me very, very happy because that could start a full-scale renaissance of 1.7.10 modpacks. I scrapped many unique pack ideas that no one has yet realized even on nu-versions simply because of the fact that I didn't have proper mod customization tools. Though it have gotten better over the years thanks to oldfags and gtnh autists, maybe I should start working on something again and see how it turns out this time.

I'm looking at their wiki, but a lot of the event triggers (opening a chest, eating food, etc.) seem like they'd only really be useful if you were doing something invasive like Origins. What would you want to do with it in 1.7.10?
I wonder, would it be possible to make an item that reduces the character's gravity depending on the number of them in the inventory? I looked into doing it with MCreator, and while it looked possible, the method of triggering the script on tick when the item is in the inventory and force-changing the player's position and speed values seemed too janky, and MCreator was ass to work with.

There is no need for CraftTweaker or KubeJS to change any of these things. For 1.7.10 at least, CustomThings takes care of custom items and blocks, Just Another Spawner changes entity spawn rules (though I got filtered by its config), and MMD OreSpawn sets what ores can be generated

A good example was my attempt to make a pirate-themed modpack. The only way of transportation except for walking was supposed to be by a custom-built ship using Ships Mod, with vanilla boat, rails, and minecart recipes removed and vanilla generation (due to mineshafts) and horse spawning disabled, but the problem was that pirates from a different mod used vanilla boats and just left it after dying. That ruined the entire idea because you're not supposed to be able to get into a vanilla boat and a pirate pack without pirates is pointless. A KubeJS/CraftTweaker solution would be to add an event trigger that breaks a boat into planks and sticks once a player enters it, but without it the only way to add something like this is creating a mod. Another problem I had, with a different pack, was that I couldn't figure out how to get rid of archers from Ancient Warfare because vanilla bows were supposed to be unobtainable to make players use Witchery crossbows instead. I would add a trigger that detects bow-wielding mobs and either swaps it with something else or kills the entity on the spot, pretty sure a script can do that. There's a lot of potential with KubeJS/CraftTweaker but I don't want to leave 1.7.10 so my only options are learning modding or continuing to fantasize about a backport

I was thinking of using Project Red's moving blocks on frames (or just slimestone), block breakers, and block placers. You'd need to have it dig for enough resources and craft the required blocks to make another one of itself.
The important part is storing and replicating the memory of the machine. When that guy made a self-replicating CC turtle, he did so by having it copy its memory onto a floppy, but with more than one block in your structure you get the problem of how to build a structure from memory, assuming you even have a way of storing memory. Computercraft + Project Red is probably quite doable, but if you weren't using a computer mod I wonder how else you could store memory such that it can be copied. Something like the forcefield mod or buildcraft's builders might be usable, BC has a blueprint that might be able to be duplicated.

Nvm I always thought that Ancient Warfare NPCs were generic entities that got their role (archer, soldier, cavalry, etc.) assigned using an in-mod mechanic but I just tested it and found out that they do count as separate mobs and have unique IDs, which means that I can easily prune them with Bad Mobs. There was never a problem in the first place

Usually you don't need any big redstone stuff for it, because a minecart that drives over a hopper will only drop one.

Set up trade hubs in villages, and it uses the populations of all the professions to calculate a model of the market with every thing the villagers could buy or sell. It is weird that i am actually having more fun in the game by modding away hunger and (as much as the game allows it) sprint? I actually would like an hybrid system between the current and old system, where food could heal you but not instantly in exchange for moderate food stacking. The saturation gimmick is a choring annoyance that becomes irrelevant late game so why have it around? Finally fixed the texture issues with all modded fences and "iron bars"-like models that was happening with pixel perfection.

I also got the idea to try Mythic Mounts and disable a lot of the taming options and config them to be hostile. The Dire Wolf and this giant lizard thing would be great rare megafauna to run into in the world. Unfortunately while I can make them untameable (0% chance) you can still click them to ride them while they're attacking you like a taming attempt. Also I guess cause they are supposed to be mounts none of the mobs have an attack animation. So while the models look really cool, they just walk into you and damage you like a zombie and it looks really dumb.

So now on to scripting craftweaker recipes. Its wierd to me that in the year of our lord 2024 and with all this AI going around there isn't some tool with a visual UI to make easy crafttweaker scripts. Even old versions of Crafttweaker had it...

Also I finally was able to figure out that its Tectonic causing the issues with large biomes when terralith and tectonic are both installed. I did a fresh install with Terralith only and changed the xz scale in the jar file and it did generate larger biomes. So Tectonic must have some weird overrides.

So again I'll ask, any tips for a mod that can add some interesting non-undead mobs for 1.20.1? Ideally some rare large mobs rather than lots of little ones. I can retexture and rename them even if it fits the pack better, but I don't want anything overtly magical or supernatural.

Ok so I checked them out. I don't feel like either add much more or less than terralith, but ultimately my main impetus for using a terrain gen mod is smoothing and height extremes. Tectonic is the closest thing to (re)terraforged that is... well released fully right now. I dislike how spastic the normal minecraft terrain is and neither WW mod really addresses that concern. Terralith does this campfire thing a lot. Is annoying and setting breaking enough that i ditched it. Particularly picked those two together (Cascades + OO) because for me, Minecraft is about the unreal, weird but pragmatic terrain generation and beta-style terrain captured that the best (it has big elevations, but not impractical ones like Vanilla's where everything is a gorillion blocks hill ever 100 steps. The pseudo-randomized terrain also makes sure every biome is fairly different from the other, unlike let's say post release swamps - Worst biome of the game easily -).

As in now, KubeJS has slightly less functionality than CraftTweaker, but has WAY nicer ergonomics (like try doing shapeless recipe with a custom crafting station on Kube.js and CraftTweaker and you'll see the difference). CraftTweaker's strongest pro is its retroactive support, anything from 1.8 and upwards has some variant of CT available (1.7 is the one cursed with MineTweaker) for multiple modloaders, while Kube.js is only a thing in 1.18 and upwards (they have older versions but they lack too many features and integrations with other mods compared with CT). that one is actually pretty easy, you make two PH sensor hatches (one for above 7.05 ph and one for below 6.95 ph) and you hook up those redstone signals to the sodium hydroxide / hydrochloric acid input
the problem is that you only have 120s per cycle to reach 7 ph, so you need to be inputting 3 units of the target material every second. Easy with fluids. I don't know an easy way to do that with items, but I have a few idea

Tier 5 is a bit worse, tier 6 is bad, and tier 7 is especially dogshit

Stuff like this is why I've always found GT to be weird. It literally makes things more convoluted than irl. If I want high purity water I'd just build a distiller or maybe use reverse osmosis. Might have to get ion exchange membranes if the reaction is really THAT sensitive. But dumping a bunch of acid and base together to neutralize the water is such a crude and brute force method, and would yield water that is full of even more shit now than it was before.

I've been thinking of a sorta similiar pack based
First, get access to betweenlands and lost cities. Use swamp water to get sulfuric gas, from which you get methane as a power source and sulfur. In lost coties get microplastics that you can turn into your first circuit boards
Require cryolite for aluminium,.meaning you need to mine two ores.
Once you get to the moon you can turn regolith into aluminium much easier, freeing up your electrolyzer. Rhen mars for easy iron and chlorine. Distill venus air for various acids. Mercury has graphite deposits, meaning you don't have to bother with coke
Astrroid belt-capture space dust, which has silicon carbide, qhich isn't as power hungry as normal method. Jupiter for hydrogen, helium and their isotopes. Don't have to bother processing moon rocks for helium 3, freeing up your infrastructure for other purposes. Get hydrocarbons from titan and ammonia from saturn. That means you can use your betweenlands tar for other stuff.
Prehistoric nature precambrian gives you plutonium ore, now your breeder reactors can produce other isotopes and elements
The idea us that when you get to new dimension you get easier access to various materials, freeing up your machines.

Feels like going to other dimensions kinda defeats the purpose of being stranded. Where are you thinking of starting out in your pack? Because Earth is kinda ideal for everything besides very large amounts of heavy metals, which can be found in some asteroids.
If you reformat it to being stranded on a moon of Jupiter or Saturn, you could enable travel to mid-game nearby moons, like Titan or Europa for resources not found on your barren land. Same for mining nearby asteroids. or maybe you make it so Earth was destroyed, and you just start out with access to the moon, before using low-tier rocketry to access the fragmented remains of Earth for other resources.

Ideally you'd have a hard bottleneck of energy required to move items to and from orbit, incentivizing building infrastructure where you need it instead of just cheaply jetting bulk resources about the place, but I don't see any way of doing that. Being stuck on one body might be the easiest to balance.

Imagine a late-game where you use star-lifting to collect absurd amounts of hydrogen and helium alongside smaller amounts of basically everything else. Just keep scaling up your fusion reactors, collecting more fuel and resources, ad infinitum. Become Kardashev Type 2.

And this is the redstone.
The PH sensor hatches (Red) are set to output redstone signals either when the PH is below 6.95 or above 7.05, which then goes into AND gates. The other conditional is a redstone signal that detects when the machine is on (blue).
In either case of the PH being too low or too high, when the machine is on and the conditions are met, the AND gates send out a signal to the respective wireless transmitter (double faced, Orange) which then sends a wireless signal to the sodium hydoxide input bus / hydrochloric acid input hatch to start extracting items from the AE2 Interfaces.
