That aside, in Dominions 6 the indie neighbors are tougher on average and there is nothing wrong with building up enough so that your victory is almost assured against indies. People talk for days and days about having to have X amount of territories before turn Y but you have to consider the reality of the situation at hand. And yeah barbarians can be brutal

It is very much a numbers game so the more troops you have, the better you can do in battle and the less troops you end up losing. Strong early game blesses and Awake pretendies can get ahead of this, but they still have to fight barbarians too. Best thing to do with them is to have a bunch of chaff to take their hits while your good troops are positioned to flank them.

I tend to avoid awake expanders unless I really need them (that is, 50% of the time). Really you're sacrificing good scales or a fun and original bless for an amazing early game.
