Also "do not centre camera at active character". I recommend turning both of these on (or maybe the centre thing is turning off, you'll see). Otherwise, combat is very slow when there's a lot going on, and the "centre on character" thing gets really annoying if you're taking long range shots, you'll end up scrolling over and over.

You don't want any "jack-of-all-trades" in your party. Also, there's almost 0 reactivity with the pre-made starting 2 characters, so feel free to make your own. You can respec but it's a little costly so you won't want to do it all the time. The economy in general is pretty tight. Another thing that I'm back and forth on is the crafting. In ways I really enjoyed it, but there's some possible gotchas. Don't just mod everything willy-nilly, because there's a good chance at any given time you're not far from dropping current equipment for something better you find, and you can't remove mods. At the same time, it makes no sense to just sit on mods because you don't want to risk using it on equipment that you might sell off. All in all though, I'd highly recommend Wasteland 3. It's fun. The only other thing I'd say is that I sort of wish I'd have headed north to do one of the main quest things there earlier, as there's I think 3 potential companions in that area, who I didn't pick up until much later.There's not a ton of companion reactivity, but there's a bit now and then.

RPG CODEX REVIEW:Beat the game again with the DLC, I have to say the DLC is a massive improvement narratively over the base game, it's a much better crafted story with a strong beginning, middle, and end. They also really improved the smaller elements that are important in RPGs in the sense of characters reacting to your characters origins and background, I got more reactivity in the DLC content from my Origin choices than I did in the entire base game combined. Kibellah is a decent addition to the cast as well, though I don't think she's on the level of my favorites from the base cast.That said, this game still massively suffers from the alpha strike combat, the clunky and poorly put together character building, and the itemization. This time around I went even beyond Unfair and actually increased things to their maximum on the sliders, which ultimately just further highlighted for me the games problems. The only time I somewhat enjoyed combat was during the very early stages, that one fight with the Anvers on Footfall for example, against the guy with the hammer and his goons with the flamethrowers, was actually enjoyable since he hit so hard he one shot anyone in my party, including Abelard, so I actually had to kite back and prevent him from getting in. Ultimately, though, once you get midway through Chapter 2 all that matters is killing everything as fast as possible, as offensive options massively outweigh defensive options on both sides and it just continues to snowball as the game progresses.

Both NPCs and PCs should have much stronger defensive options so combat can actually have some tactical depth where your strategies and positioning actually matters.Since they've actually taken the time and effort to improve in the narrative department for this DLC, perhaps they will make strides in the combat area as well with the next one, or at least, they'll do better in their next game in general.

>>507085610Not at all, no. That's a Larian thing, play DOS2 if you want more BG3. There isn't a lot that holds BG1&2 and BG3 together, except some very loose plot lines and character cameos. I don't exactly know what you mean by freeform, but combat can be pretty decent especially for a 25 year old game, with SCS (people generally use this to make it harder but you can also use it to just give improvement to the AI) and Spell Revisions, for instance. Just as a random example, I remember getting a character right in the middle of a crowd of enemies, casting Otiluke's Sphere and then throwing in explosives/fireballs while they tried attacking him. That's a BG2 spell though anyhow. There's minor things like that.Or, there's a cursed sword in BG1 that's quite good. So I gave it to a character who'd go berserk, and loaded a cleric up with Command (which only puts people to sleep) to knock them out after combat. Sometimes it wouldn't work, so there was some funny Benny Hill moments trying to run until the berserk wore off. I've never used Sanctuary but I think there's probably a lot of interesting things you could do with it. Just some examples. But no, I wouldn't compare it to BG3 in the pushing and barrelmancy way.
