Spoiler-free post.Finished my reread of Muv-Luv Alternative. In total I read Kiminozo then re-read Muv-Luv Extra, Unlimited, and Alternative. These games go together so I'll rank them as a set:Alternative > Kiminozo > Extra > UnlimitedAlternative is definitely the best game out of the four. I considered it one of my favorite VNs and the reread confirmed that. It's not perfect, it definitely has a few boring parts, but that's part for the course with games this long. If I had to rate the games on a numeric scale I would say:Alternative 9/10Kiminozo 8/10Extra 7/10Unlimited 6/10I don't think I really need to justify the rating for Alternative. For Kiminozo, it's a bit of a mixed bag because not all of the content is great. The main routes (Mitsuki, Haruka, Akane) are all great, and the side routes for Ayu and Manami (pure love route only) are worth reading, but the rest isn't IMO. The extra content is also mixed. The epilogues for Haruka and Akane and garbage and obviously written by the same person who wrote Sumika's epilogue from Photonflowers / Muv-Luv Supplement, as they follow a similar sort of progression. Mitsuki's epilogue however is good and wraps up her route very well. There's also the alternate version of chapter 1 in which you can date change the course of the high school segment and date different girls at that point. This was really nice to have and I enjoyed it. White Album 2 should have taken a lesson from this and included something like it for Introductory Chapter. Anyway, I'm cutting Kiminozo a bit of slack with the rating. The good parts of Kiminozo are better than anything in Muv-Luv except Alternative, so rating it lower or the same as Extra/Unlimited feels wrong.(cont.)

On my initial read I did not like Kei or her route, perhaps because of the subject matter, but this time I was able to read it more calmly and ended up enjoying it. On my initial read I liked Miki's route a lot but this time it felt too silly to me and I wasn't as interested. Unlimited is the low point since it's more of a set up for Alternative (where as Extra can stand on its own), and the rehashing of content with the various endings (there are no actual routes) still felt lazy. But Alternative makes up for all of that and the pay-off is worth it.Muv-Luv connects to Kiminozo a lot more than I initially thought that it did, which makes sense as I had not read Kiminozo prior to my initial read. It isn't truly necessary, but I'd recommend that anyone who wants to read Muv-Luv also read Kiminozo first, as you'll definitely get more out of Muv-Luv because of it. It took a while to get through all four games but it was worth it.The end.
