I never really bothered much with third party aircraft in Flight Sim 2020. I'm definitely not going to start buying aircraft in another game after spending a small fortune on DCS.

What are some of the best aircraft or third party developers that are pirateable on simplaza? I know FS2020 has a lot of shovelware, so I'm a bit clueless about what's worth downloading.

It had an awful launch and is basically in beta currently, once the bugs get ironed out it'll be a good improvement over 2020. If you're thinking of getting it I would say to give it a few months and stick with 2020 for now.

No, just no. Don't start, don't continue, just don't. Leave paid mods to planefriends.
That said, have you already checked the Steam workshop mods if you can't build what you want from there? This thing looks just like some random shit you could get anywere.
>>
>>507061371
For some reason truck sim hasn't developed the third party support that flightsims have, I would be wary of any paid ETS2 mod, it's probably not worth it.

>>507051438
Just checked out the A2A Comanche. It's impressive how much detail went into it with customizable avionics, interactive walkaround and so on.

>>
>>507140572
>i keep crashing the viggen just by turning too hard while going mach speed.
Well, don't do that then. The Viggen is designed to push through the thick lower atmosphere faster than any other jet, which means it has a big fuckhuge heavy engine supported by wings that are getting a shitload of control authority from said thick atmosphere. Think of it like trying to drop the clutch for a burnout in a 2000hp monster truck, something is gonna break.
I'd say pick up the M2000 if you want something similar but more nimble, but really just about any other jet besides the F-5 you will have a hard time ripping the wings off of.

Yea turning one of my fields in to Barley and using that to feed a large chicken coop is what turned the tide on my game. I waited until I had a full trailer so I was only selling eggs every other year but those cash injections are what made the loan seem not so overwhelming.
Made the mistake of putting my coop on not-level ground so my forklift will get stuck on the uneven ground if I don't pick up the pallets in a specific way

for flight sims how do you click stuff in the cockpit usually. do you headtrack to where a button is and use your mouse to select, or just hotkey everything? what's optimal?
>>
>>507356998
>do you headtrack to where a button is and use your mouse to select
I'm using VR but same thing as this I guess
I like interacting with the actual cockpit, knowing where things are, so I don't bind all that much to external controls, just things I need to use quickly or repeatedly
>>
>>507358861
im not using vr at the moment. i only plan to really mess with opentracker and a webcam for headtracking, and then maybe get a cheap leap motion for hand tracking, but i've heard it's finnicky.

if you use the mouse, does that mean you are left handed with your hotas, or are they both on the same side and you just let go of it?
>>
>>507359134
>left handed with your hotas
Yeah, left-handed stick
>>
>>507361710
yeah that sounds like the best approach right now. left stick, right mouse, and trackir. i think i'll be more than set with that. thanks for the clarification.
>>
>>507356998
i take my right hand off my right handed joystick, move it to my mouse, click what i have to click, then put my right hand back on my right handed joystick
i use a variety of methods to control my view to make the control visible, trackIR, POV hat, mouse pan my view, pop-up 2d panels, keyboard shortcuts, etc...
>>
>>507362815
Careful, that poster is a retard. Go center stick with the mouse on the right of the stick. Then you can fly like a normal non-shiteater with your right hand, and switch to your left hand on the stick when you need to use the mouse with your right hand.
>>
>>507365587
it's funny you say that, i was planning to center stick but still use it left handed because i assumed that in a dogfight i'd have to be switching weapon/radar switches all over the place while flying. i'll go right side then.
>>
>>507356998
I've gotten good at camera control with the mouse, and I leave everything to a clickspot except throttle/(props/mix)/spoilers/flaps/gear/lights

I just had a revelation.
The last few years I went into the same cycle several times. I wanted to do some fun flying and sightseeing, so I downloaded FS2020, played it for a day or two, got frustrated with the fight model and also the horrible photogammetry trees and ugly buildings, and lack of and stuff to do and immediately went back to DCS to play some airquake.

Now when flying over the Marianas in my Huey I just realized that DCS is actually better than FS2020 for sightseeing. Sure not the entire world is in it, but at least that is, it looks much better near the ground it's not even a comparison.
I think I'm going to use DCS as my "civilian"/cargo flight simulator too. The helos already have cargo loading, and I guess I'll just have to roleplay with the aircraft.

That said, I'm eyeing the South Atlantic and the Kola maps. Unfortunately there is no trial. Anyone bought them? Do they have similar levels of eye candy as Syria and Marianas, so I can go on a joyride in them? Most importantly, are cities detailed with a few uniquely modeled buildings that you can use and landmarks and explore?
>>
>>507419503
I can land perfectly fine, I just don't ask for permission first or wait around in a pattern like some sort of simulated cuckold.

This is the same conclusion I came to a year ago. DCA is just a more consistent experience at low level than MSFS.
Also, South Atlantic is shit untill it gets a major rework, Kola is "ok" but not on the same level as Syria, while absolutely nothing compares to Marianas.

Would UEBS or UEBS 2 (Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator) be something applicable to this thread?

I thought of that but didn't know if it would have enough traffic to not just clog up the board
>>populating it with roman girls and battle webms
I only recently started messing around with it so I don't really have anything to post yet. My GPU only has 4 GB or vram so I can't do anything terribly outrageous yet, but that doesn't stop me from doing smaller things. My limit as far as deploying troops (while maintaining a playable frame rate) seems to be about 1,000,000 give or take. 5,000,000 runs but painfully slow. And some/most maps wont load at all if I turn off the setting that reduces memory usage by only loading the regions of the map where units are actually placed (ie, you can't fly anywhere you want, just around the area you start out in)

I have seen a claim that the game runs 100% on the GPU but that seems very unlikely, both because there's always stuff that only a CPU can do and because I see non-zero CPU usage, plus it uses a pretty large chunk of system RAM depending on the settings. The weird thing is even if it's using 7 GB of system ram (I have 16) and all 4 GB pf vram, it seems like it only ever uses 200-300 MB of "shared" GPU memory, which as I understand is just system ram that the GPU allocates to use as slower-but-better-than-nothing vram when it runs out. Even when it totally locks up from what I assume is running out of memory to load one of the absolutely massive maps, it never uses more than ~300MB of shared gpu memory.

>>507467276

To an extent, yes. The premise is "big open space with many people", but the reality is something like "max 4 actual players in an instance" in a barren void. So when you have big conflicts, it plays out as instanced or solo runs in tiny groups instead of being grand scale.

90 gigs or so, plus another 10 gigs per scenery region. At least that's what I remember before I uninstalled it and then hunted down the 90gb to manually trash it to make room for DCS because it doesn't really want to uninstall correctly. I even asked for a refund on steam since I had about 20 hours in the game with about 15 of those hours just installing and updating from Microsofts servers that they run out of an apartment closet apparently.
Also it has mandatory 20-60 minute updates seemingly every time you try to run it, so hopefully you're not trying to fit a quick flight in after work. It'll CTD several times after updating as well, so add another 5-10 minutes of startup depending on your computer each time.
All in all, fuck Microsoft and AssOboe too.

Are there some purely PvE multiplayer servers in DCS that don't spam enemy air patrols everywhere?
I've been playing DCS multiplayer on and off in short bursts for some years by now, but all the popular PvE servers (Through the inferno, Georgia/etc at War, 4YA, etc) can only be enjoyed in an F-16 or F-18 with 4+ AMRAAM for self escort because of the constant swarm of enemy jets spawning everywhere.
Everytime I tried to enjoy something like an A-10, Harrier, Su-25 or helicopters in multiplayer on a good day I had 5-10 minutes until some AI patrol found me and shot me down with radar missiles.

I pretty much only play some of my favorite modules in single player because of this.
>>

it's kinda mutually exclusive, you want air superiority before you send in the close support, but then the fighter boys have nothing to do

DCS and MSFS compliment each other very well. MSFS can be a lot more than sight seeing if you want it to be. You can't experience bush flying/STOL or water landings in DCS world which is really it's own entire type of flying and you have infinitely many places to practice it in MSFS. Then with MSFS there are also big group flights to different destinations which is pretty unique to any simulator that has ever been out.

While flying around in MSFS though, I do always think how cool it would be to have DCS modules and vehicles in the MSFS game world if it ran a bit better

Do 4WD and Diff Lock both accomplish the same thing, just costing different resources (gas or wear)? Or is it more like one for hills, one for mud? The tutorial didn't explain
It seems to blink a warning at you when you're using Diff Lock when you don't need it (at least I think that's what that means) but wish I could tell when to use it instead of guessing and relying on that
>>
>>507694824
4 wheel drive gives better traction on uneven terrain, with 2WD the drive wheels might have bad grip in some situations

differential lock makes all wheels spin the same amount, which gives better traction in slippy conditions like mud, so you don't have some wheels free spinning while others are stuck

Alright, I guess I'll stick with mud = diff lock, steep hills/rocky = 4wd
I'd gotten into the habit of trying 4wd first, even in mud, and then diff lock (i.e. both at once) because 4wd just uses extra gas (which is somewhat refillable, when you find gas cans) whereas diff lock drains "wear" which doesn't seem to be fixable within a mission
