In Persona 3, where the system was introduced, there were a lot of mechanics that were integrated with the system (like tiredness, moon phases, or your teammates availability varying) and the calendar system reinforced the themes of the game (make the most of your time, etc.) P4 dropped tiredness and your teammates are always available for exploration, but they at least added something new with the weather system. In P5, the calendar system feels like it has a detrimental effect on the pacing/plot and that game would probably be better without it. I wouldn't mind if P6 ditches the calendar system, I don't think they are going to do that though.

P3 only lets you do the dungeons at night and there's generally fuck all to do at night aside from 2 social links and building social stats so you can fuck around in the dungeons ways more than in 4. There's more free time slots to compensate especially in Royal, but P5 definitely has it the most complicated of the 3, even if you count P3 Reload which incentivizes going into the tower more because it took costumes for your party members out of the shop and stuck them behind dogshit miniboss rushes
