I'm of the impression that none of these things are terribly interesting, nor do they challenge modern hero design (with the exception of Strange, because the portals are quite cool to see in a hero shooter). Iron man can permanently fly, but sacrifices a huge portion of his power budget in order to allow that. He lacks the durability, sustained damage, or burst mobility other characters may have, which is a perfectly fine tradeoff to make, but by no means a groundbreaking ability. Melee carries don't really break the mold either because melee carries are staples of MOBAs and are present in other hero shooters like Paladins. It's just Overwatch that doesn't really have melee carries. Loki isn't challenging anything either because his base kit is just Ying, and yes its cool that he can copy both allies and enemies but the fundamental idea isn't new and isn't innovative. In fact I would actually make the counterpoint that Marvel Rivals, despite the hands-down stellar artstyle and visual direction, are rather uninspired, and the hero designs fail because they lack depth and skill expression. For instance, note how virtually every healer falls under the archetype of "shoot to heal." Yes they have otherwise "unique" kits, (which I would argue are actually still rather poorly designed, like how Cloak and Dagger literally just project a wall forward, one of the most uninspired and non-expressive skills I've ever seen in a hero shooter), but their fundamental gameplay loop is identical. This critique extends beyond supports though. Like Psylocke is considered one of the hardest characters in the game, and her ultimate is just... mindlessly attack everything in a zone? It's a cool power fantasy, but there's no skill.Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the game, but I tend to be very critical of things that I like. And one of the things I'm critical of Rivals is that I think the hero design doesn't hold up past casual play.
