>>519880687The genre or theme or whatever you want to call space games is cursed fundamentally99% of them suffer horrendously from scope creep and those that don't are probably permanently in dev by like 5 guys and running on an outdated game engine that's as old as the game itself.Much like how we can't mentally grasp how big the universe actually is, space games can't into fitting such a thing into the limited space of a videogame. Games are supposed to eventually end, but space is practically infinite. It stands to reason that it is impossible to make a really good space game simply because you have to cut it off eventually. Some use proc gen to simulate that infinite nature of space but even that is extremely limited and unfulfilling. There are precious few that get close to greatness but they always have to limit something in order to not take an average human lifetime to make, by then the tech it was made with has long since been left behind
Endzone is pretty fun. It's got a nice aesthetic and it's pretty relaxed. The pathfinding is absolutely dogshit, though.

>>519882715Starsector is one of my favorite games and I think it's nearly perfect. Space strategy games that focus on empire building are often too bloated. MoO1 is good because it's concise but the problem I have with it is that it is too focussed on conflict. Distance factors in this too it should be very costly and difficult to cross or govern over large distances. Space is big why even go to the trouble of taking something when there is enough empty space for everyone.
>>519924036You can get raided, but you don't really gather troops and man a wall. You just build towers, fill them with people and supply them with bullets from the bullet factory. There might be more to it on higher difficulties. Only just started.

When you complete the Side Co-Prosperity Sphere, it turns everyone neutral except Side 7, which is a puppet of Earth. Well, they won't be much of a problem.
Funnily enough, war support was the only thing I was having trouble with.Who would have thought that declaring war on a peaceful nation for no reason would cause it to go through the roof? What a twist!
I wonder what this could mean.

>>519999362I mean, if I birthed that nazi retard? Yeah, I'd kill myself too.
The first time I played this I made an embarrassing mistake. It turns out that you don't actually need to build your divisions, in fact if you do you end up with no manpower to actually invade Urf. You just need the equipment, and then they magically get spawned on the ground. Yes.
>>519999532No wonder it's posting here, that loser probably got booted out of /gsg/. Imagine being a clown, and still being kicked out of the circus. How miserable and pathetic. I almost feel bad for this tranny and xis shitty weeaboo mod. Almost.

Within a week.I have no idea what the idea of "operational objectives" are as it gives you a scarcely defendable foothold on an entire hostile continent, but I will take what I can get. The enemy doesn't even have MS, it's all tanks and infantry.
This is a decision but I didn't screencap the choices. There was only one choice anyway.
I can't remember why I didn't research this earlier. I assume there were more pressing needs, after all I'm already popular enough.

I have a question. There are a lot of medieval city builders popping up lately. Are there any that addressed how much tanneries stunk? I was wondering because it pops up whenever someone talks about life in the middle ages.
At this point my lack of manpower really began to hurt. Having to garrison all those conquered territories is costly after all.
>>520001194Sieg Zeon!
>>520001276Only thing I can think of is representing how much they ruin the neighbourhood. How badly do they stink? As much as the off-topic /gsg/ger answering its own posts right now?
IT KEEPS HAPPENING>>520001194It's a japanese mod, maybe they didn't want to go all out with the autism in the translation. They already go very far with renaming Zeon to "Munzo" if you depose the Zabi family.
>>520001485Wrong general, tranny. Also, stop answering your own posts, it's sad.
>>520001276I recall Manor lords having a feature like that under work, could be wrong though, since I didn't find any mention of it on their wiki.
>>520001352Dunno most people just go with generic "most people today don't realize how much did they stunk" or "people avoided such and such part of town because that's where all the tanneries were". It must've been pretty horrible if people during the middle ages noticed it.
At this point the event chain would be more meaningful if it had any relevance to what was happening in game. This screenshot does show off two things: the number of divisions per army is normally capped at 24. I haven't played the vanilla game at all so I don't know if this is a carryover from that. However, for certain 'hero' generals, the unit cap is 6. This makes micromanagement a giant pain, on top of the worst-in-a-decade interface the game already has.
>>520001808Wrong general, transsexual. How goes your butchery? Is your axe wound still hurting?
This is when I reloaded the game from an earlier save, because it turns out using up all your manpower on one continent is not a good strategy. This time I disbanded most of my divisions for manpower and invaded Australia first. Australia is easily defensible, like in Risk, and the resources in the area are disproportionate to the effort it takes to get them.
>>520002085Wrong general, tranny. Go to >>>/trash/shitgame/, it's a better fit for your reddit-tier blogging.
The first time you capture a naval base you also capture all the techs associated with them, it's rather funny.
This time around I spare nothing on North America. 104 divisions still felt like too little. This time will be better, right?
>>519959573you're thinking of the mission where you play as arkantos but you destroy atlantis

>>520002775yeah, because calling him a tranny for the past hour has clearly worked, right? you need to learn to report and ignore
The nice thing about having a hundred fifty divisions is that you can basically just walk wherever you want and nothing can stop you.
>>520003051You sound upset, /gsg/ger. Couldn't stand it anymore and had to cry out, huh.
At this point the bottleneck isn't numbers but attention span and AI. Supposedly there is a very good front system that automates this. I have not seen it work myself. It doesn't help that the enemy can tear your lines open across an entire continent and there is NOTHING to tell you this.
>>520003440Wrong general, tranny. Also your last remaining relatives are all ashamed of you.
>>519862618>>519861264>>519861037>>519859207I'm playing it right now and my main gripe is how weak the gods are at the start. These supposed divinities are barely stronger than common soldiers. I think your basic Warcraft III heroes felt stronger compared to common troops. Also the game refers to them as "heroes" when they die. Does it mean there are going to be heroes other than gods?
It really is quite hypnotic when you gather all of your units in one blob, draw a line somewhere and hit 'aggressive'. It reminds me of watching a slime mold spread across a table.
>>520003609Yes. There is the Bishop. He's a hero, but he doesn't fight, and if he dies, he's replaced by another bishop with another name. He has the best economical bonuses, though.
YEEEHAW
This is the mod's biggest problem, aside from the game it's based on: you can blob across literal continents on a Genghis Khan scale in days and yet you are nowhere close to winning. HoI4 was based around WWII scales, it doesn't expect you to do world conquests as a minimum victory condition.
Also, the one thing the mod doesn't tell you: the Federation has multiple ports from the space to ground map that work like teleporting, and they also control the space map. That means that they can teleport their entire army anywhere they want and the only way to stop them is to either take all of the spaceport locations or conquer Earth orbit. Neither of these are very difficult but the game doesn't tell you any of it, meanwhile the enemy will magically shift their entire army across the entire globe.
>>520004443>Also, the one thing the mod doesn't tell you:How to read OP instead of trannying?
An example of the "walk across an entire continent" thing I mentioned earlier. It may be inevitable when the entire army consists of spearheads with nobody to hold them.

The combat in DW2 is also better I think. Ships have fixed weapon slots but they all come with their own firing arc making ships or shipsets suited for different combat styles.>And what might Stellaris have over it if you experienced both games I guessWhat stellaris has over DW is probably that the factions and quests are more moldable. It's easier to project your own fantasy on them. Stellaris is also better suited to create your own empires from the different building blocks the game gives the player. It's also very nice that lot's of the 'wonders' you can build in Stellaris are actual space structutes you can see in the game, rather than some 2d art in a planet menu. The soundtrack of stellaris is also a lot better I think.
>>520153953Scaling is very different.Remember how in Stellaris you could have battleships that are bigger than some planets? Not in DW2.Also, there are no star lanes, everything works on warp travel. Also you have the whole fuel economy to worry about, ships can't travel beyond their maximum fuel capacity and need to refuel from time to time. Also you must mine the fuel and build stations that can provide said fuel to ships. Your civilian ships will also burn fuel.
>>520155685>Scaling is very different.Yeah I do like the scaling of DW over Stellaris but I still think that planets and other celestial bodies sould still be bigger.>>520153953Stellaris has better lighting effects. Even though it's an old game now it is still one of the better looking space strategy games. The UI of stellaris is horrible I think, way too bloated with unimportant stuff.

>>520133895Does DW2 let you make sex slaves of other races so I can make humanity bigger by destroying all alien worlds except their homeworlds which I leave as sex tourism destinations for the nobility of my glorious human empire, vgh?
>>520168218Tourism is a feature, but different types of slavery and genociding aren't.

>>520168912It's been ages since I last played. It could be that it works like Sword of the stars where you automatically purge ayy lmaos if you don't understand their language, or it could be the aliens on conquered worlds just become alien citizens to your empire.I think it works more like the latter, I at least recall there being alien pops on alien planets I conquered. If you want to go full ayy lmao delenda est, your best option is the latest DLC, which added planet killers.>>520169412I don't think they have deleted any name mods, I do remember there being a shitshow some years back when they deleted the whites only skin mod.
>>520169992>Sword of the starsI hate to say it but I'm more likely to reinstall and play that than DW2 most likely. I've always been of the MoO1 mind where galactic emperors shouldn't concern themselves with building farms on individual planets and instead you just have a few sliders to just shit, and SotS1 is pretty good about that as well as having very satisfying space battles

>>520208932Are you fighting actual people with brains or just AI? Because those have wildly different priorities and resultsI can already tell you>Corvette- flak and laser, 1 shield 2 armor>(Beating every single Corvette design I test)This is false. Flak is useless and wasted slots until you go up against missiles or strike craft. AI tend to mix their loadouts enough this is still a safe bet, but human players can just counter it by skipping out by just dropping another laser in and out damaging you
>>520267730this is my first project. what kind of janky highway interchange is this?
>>520267810I tested it. Flak vs 3 lasers. Flak win.Mind you, it's all in the same alloy cost.
>>520268037ugly, but usable.
So how's 4.0 Stellaris??
>>520208932>>520268059This was solved over two years ago. Space fauna shook it up, but now bioships will crack the meta wide open. I'll laugh if basic bitch ships are still kingStellaris had a decent Corvette balance metagame2 laser 1 flak beats 3 missile spam3 lasers beats the 2-1 balance3 missiles beats the 3 lasers due to shield bypass and better accuracy of missiles at the beginning of the gameAll this is to bide time and tech up for shit like better lasers and bigger ship designs. No one is using mass drivers, so no one is upgrading their flak. Engineering is the most important research because it's an arms race to survice until you unlock cruisers. On the physics side, you want disruptors. AI players get fucked by disruptors early/midgame. Disruptor spam will melt them, and most human builds, until they slap on hardening modules to neuter your disruptors by forcing them to chew through armor/shields. A smart guy could also put together like a missile cruiser to out range disruptors and kite all over the fucking solar systemStar bases are meaty enough to laugh at disruptors but that's where your frigates come in. Just spec them purely to assfuck star bases. Drop them once you have cruisers. Strike craft cruisers can just park out of range and practically siege them. Destroyers are decent at taking damage, and loading flak, but you'll have little use for them outside flak pickets once cruisers roll inI don't care if something here is outdated, I took a break for a long fucking time from Stellaris and I'll only touch it again to keep making funny alien megacorps to mess with my friend
>>520269214it's alllll coming together>>520269897not released yet
>>520268059>>520270582>I tested it. Flak vs 3 lasers. Flak win.>Mind you, it's all in the same alloy cost.FUCK FAIR FIGHTS A little detail that was missed. The same alloy cost implies you're not using blue lasersBlue lasers are the bare minimum research needed to guarantee fucking up your first neighbor and kicking them in the nuts. You take that, and immediately start planning a war with the first dude you see. Why blue lasers? Because it's on the path to disruptors, and your engineering research is spent on propulsion and bigger ships. If you get UV lasers early instead, you can still laugh and melt everything so long as you don't run into anything shield heavyAI will not follow any solved meta, it will just research whatever, but will do it way faster than you if you're playing on a higher difficulty. That's why you want to stab your neighbor as soon as you research a weapon tech that helps you to do that, steal their land, then snowball. Using physics for your ship weapons is just the most convenient path. Using tier 1 flak early is still good paired with tier 2 lasers, if your enemy is using missiles it can save a lot of grief, and ships. Does this all seem extremely autistic? That's because it is. Just know that more autistic people solved this for us over a year ago. It's not worth caring about unless you're fighting high difficult AI or god forbid, competitive Stellaris multiplayer
>>520268059Neat!
>>520272493>not released yetOh okay
when will something happen in evil genius 2isn't there supposed to be like, enemy agents or something?literally no challenge
>>520274670Flak gives 100% damage to the shield (or just 75% if you include the penetration). This is why 1 shield 2 armour beat 2 shields 1 armour in the same alloy cost.I play in GA; since I met a federation enemy who has a 5K fleet each in 2212, I gave up and played admiral. I hate luck-based gameplay.I tested autistically blue laser vs red laser. The red laser is better because the earlier you can rush, the better. I watched the MP tournament, and it seems 2212 is when someone started to spam ships. So killing overpowered origins in 2209 with red laser is better than doing it in 2213 with blue laser.I will test it again later to make sure. You forgot the society research which give 100 ship starting experience (+10% damage).

I still can't believe that after all this time we still can't fucking terraform the Bedrock/Tunnel tiles in AOW 4. It's by far the one thing fucking up any underground run and it's maddening. It's literally the one thing that would fix all the problems players have been complain about since day 1. Have they ever stated a reason for not changing it? The new Dungeon tome is really cool and I love the idea of it. But it's so fucking hard to get any good cities down there besides your starting capital due to so much non-occupiable terrain. Do I really have to mod the game to fix this?
>>520337809I remember subverting that problem by casting that forest terraform spell in those regions, that actually solved all these problems even if the results looked weird when you expanded there to cramp a lumber mill in a tiny space. But that was like, day one stuff and they patched that long ago
I tried multiple times.Flak+2 blue laser always win against 3 blue laser.Ten out of ten.1 flak equal to 2 red lasers in pure damage. That's why.>>520274670Blue laser is also bad in the early game because 4 pops you use to research means 4 pops less for alloy production. Researching blue laser mean you have 10 less ships.blue laser wins against red laser when it is 3 ships different (42 blue laser vs 39 red laser). Below that, red laser win. 10% damage from ship experience from society research not even worth 1 ship because damage bonuses are already high (no retreat +33%, militarist ethic +10%, commander level and skill, excess power, etc).So +10% damage is just +2% or something.
>>520334956Me neither but I'll persist through the comfy ones even if it's suboptimal a la dawn of man or surviving mars
>>520352158I mean 42 red vs 39 blue. Not just 4 pops doing research, but the mineral cost for research building equal to 1 ship, and the time to build it for a year. It's not even guaranteed you will get the blue laser at the start anyway.Research is for economy like capacity subsidies, and mining subsidies, which we have plenty of edfundsfund from high ruler level (distinguished admiralty+warbots), and domination later on.But i would rather colonize 2 guaranteed homeworld than researching them.

Holy cow, I love Unification.
>>520528145you are a cow
>>520520578Been a while, but basically knights move 1 space in one direction and 2 in a different one. Normally that's an L shape, but here it can also move through time, 2 spaces up and one space "back". The king can't escape because it can't change the past, so it's mate.>>520520785Same with this one, except it's going 2 up and then 1 "sideways" into an alternate timeline. As you might've guessed from these puzzles, the easiest way to win in these is to attack pieces in the past, because they can't move away.
>>520533310Nope, sorry, I still don't get it. At no point in time is the black king in range of the knight. It should be on either side of the two Ls.
>>520533704You're still thinking in 2D. Pieces here are no longer restricted to left right up down. Alternate timelines are essentially 1 square away, so the knight there moves 2 up and 1 "sideways" into that timeline. If that knight was where the white pawn or king was, it wouldn't be mate because it can't reach the black king. It might help if you imagine it like a 3D box, where each square is a cube and each board is stacked on top of each other. They can either be stacked left to right if you're going back in time, or top to bottom if you're going into other timelines.

I ran nature builds near the game's release, and I like the city buffing stuff a lot, and their empire development options. But animal units don't feel that rewardingThat tier five tome to give everyone nature damage crit and blight across the board is neat, but you either have to go full plant or full dragons.Maybe dragons is more viable for solid nature than animals
>>520933780I guess it's not for you, I'm personally loving it more every hour I play.
>>520940196I don't like animals either.Anyway nature helps to make big cities but your eventual win condition is making your entire race plants and using the tier 5 tome to revive all plants in battle, a combo that doesn't even work with summoned animals
>>520940304Nice it looks really great.
>>520943141dungeon is really goodmy go-to is primal spiders, tome of discipline (Focus aim is good, as is empowered strikes; Mantra of purification is good too), enchantment, dungeon tome, whatever, then tier 3 you can grab the dreadnaught book and get a SPI that grants +2 ranks to recruited constructs. With a smith's guild and a rank 4 recruit governer, you can get champion (+1 range on arblests) tier 3 units and pump one out every turn. My actual problem is finding a decent support for them, but they can get so tanky with the Legion passive + leadership abilities that you can almost skimp out on healing. You *can* skimp out once you hit tome of prosperity with Blessed Armor but you gotta figure out a way to sneak in some extra affinities to unlock it

Anyways, who else's empire looks like this?
>>521113107I dunno increase the hyperlanes before generating a galaxy or play a space game with free movement. Why would you expect other results with a game that hasn't changed that much at its core after they ditched some things that were too hard.
real heroes build civilization
>>521113107You're playing according to meta, so nothing wrong there.
>>521109747Does your cpu melt after 300 dudes still?

hello from /gsg/
I forgot I was played Endzone.
game is basically banished but on easy mode
3/3
shtormindo we have a release date for the DLC?
Playing some AOW4 now that Underground empires are finally great, and the new society trait that makes excavation give double resource nodes is really strong. But I have one problem, for some fucking reason every single sun loving faggot suddenly decies to just dump their fucking outpost with no rhyme or reason everywhere in my cozy fucking caves... REEEE FUCK OFF OVERDWELLERS GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT!!!Leave me the fuck alone and let me tend to my mushroom forest in peace for fucks sake
>>521190968>UndergroundFuck yeah>AI building outposts Fuck no. Murder emYeah this has always been their general behavior I feel. Even allies do it, but at least they usually place teleporters and didn't boom into more cities next to mine. It's more noticable for underground because we have more limited space for real estateGod the civic trait and Dungeon tome make me want to make a map wide Moria with every culture. This is what the game did to me now. I want to run each of them as a tunnel snake empire just to see what can synergize with their basement dwelling
What are some "historical" games with rare factions?
In CoE5 how do I find the castle in Hades? Is making the Baron "King of the Underworld" any different from making him "King of the Surface"?
>>521200225Pfffffffffffffffffffffff.Isn't map generation random in CoE? I vaguely remember reading that planes are mirrors of each others, so maybe head toward the human capital?
>>521200453It really is just a mirror of the living world. So find where the capital is on surface and shift to Hades.
>>521200875This? Isn't the capital the Senator's thing? I'm looking for ways to make the Baron king when the King's Castle doesn't spawn.
>>521201828King's Castle and the Capital serve the same purpose as far as I know.
>>521200225There's also a castle in the Celestial Plane.
>>521201828I thought you needed a capital, not a castle?
>>521194643It's really fun! And I do enjoy just minding my own business down there most of the time. Currently I am trying out Primal-Spider culture with a heavy emphasis on Food and a bit of materium going for huge Mushroom/Dungeon tiles. The Feudal rework is really neat too. The only thing I still wish we had gotten was some way to remove Bedrock using the final tomes And about the AI settling in stupid ways, I had one settle and outpost and make a City only able to expand a single tile being surrounded by my borders.. Glad to hear im not the only one having fun though!
>>521134012Mine doesn't and I have over 400. It gets warm but far from extreme. It got a lot better with the 1.0 version and after that there were some minor improvements.
>>521194643Just look at this...
>>521204896That's for the Senator(lame). The Baron(cool) needs a King's Castle.>>521202923I didn't have enough trebuchets. I can't beat god
>>520451097This game looks awfully convoluted. Am I getting the wrong impression of it?
>>521210870it's pretty simple once you get the hang of it. the game starts you out without all of the mechanics
>>521210870Game starts you off slow. Lets you lean into the mechanics slowly as more and more mechanics are introduced till you get the full experience. Its like a proper tutorial that doesn't feel oppressive.
>>519852106So has anyone tried Hollywood Animal, it's out now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZF3B48_sRY&ab_channel=WeappyStudio
>>521211027>>521211365That sounds much more approachable, in that case. The idea of building a bunch of settlements to feed back into a main city is admittedly pretty intriguing, particularly since it's not just perpetually open-ended, from what I understand. I may give this a try.
>>521213094>The idea of building a bunch of settlements to feed back into a main city is admittedly pretty intriguingthat's not really how the gameplay works, each settlement is largely independent. there is no main city that you can actually play in
>>521210615>That's for the Senator(lame). The Baron(cool) needs a King's Castle.Dammit, I really need to return to CoE. In my defense, I play several games at once, so...
>>521213512That was what I meant, the point is that all the settlements are contributing to some central city you don't actually control, right?
>>521214007kinda, yeah. each finished settlement gives you materials that you can use for permanent upgrades

>the crisis arrive too late and the ai is overwhelming them... againIt's seems I have to do everything in this fucking galaxy.
>>521206143My first new underground run was with some Industrial dorfs, picked a Rock Giant ruler, was somehow parked right next to the crystal dwelling, and things got crazy quick with booming production. I stacked half the Materium transformations and REALLY liked the new upgrade in the tier 5 tome affecting elementals if you become crystal dudesIt had synergy with constructs too, so that makes me really want to try a similar run with more war machines and not depend as much on stacking racial TF bonuses. That'll probably be a Reaver run for me. Reavers seem a bit underdeveloped now compared to other cultures, but I just wanna try the gun faction again>>521210075Jesus christ it's like it's suicidal begging for a war declaration
>>521218869They really should take another look at reavers and Re-work them. Leaning more into the Mercenary/Pirate playstyle could be nice. Let them get paid for fighting others wars or something would be pretty neat
>>521183565>>521183723>>521183881I really like this game, they have a Rome themed sequel coming out some time this year.

Against the Storm scratches a really weird itch that I didn't realize I had. I was put off by the idea of having to constantly remake new settlements, but something about just doing the opener of a settlement and getting it established, before moving on, just feels proper.
>>521278192it's a roguelike (roguelite, whatever) that feels truly unique
>>521278515The term feels like it doesn't do it justice. It's like the fun, exciting part at the beginning of a 4x where you're scoping out the landscape and getting settled, but before everything gets permanently locked in and you have to toil to the finish line. I never knew how much I wanted that until now.
I wonder how many of the posts in this thread are mine
Any recommendations for a trading and logistics game?
>>521285262endless sky
good night /civ4xg/
>>521278192For a lot of builders the fun part is in the beginning. The struggle of getting a place set up. Afterwords it starts to feel like work and maintenance doesn't feel as rewarding. This isn't true of them all but a lot of them end up feeling that way.
>>521007878Yeah i wonder what happened to Earthbreakers
>>521295539Or the dreaded mid game slog just waiting for the fun end game
>>521295539Very true. Some people seem to have a knack for putting every single little piece together into a cohesive whole in their games, but getting to the point where that's the only thing to really focus on just kills the enjoyment for me. It never occurred to me you could simply make a game where it's all entrenchment, and end up making it work.
>>521285262Settlers.
>>521285262Anno, pick the era you prefer.
>>521309440What if I don't like Anno?
This game is great. I'm like Zhuge Liang killing an army of 700 using 50 men. On the contrary, an OP unit can be taken down with the right combination of weaker units.
>>521320305>"I'm like Zhuge Liang killing an army of 700 using 50 men"Mate don't get arrogant, you're only fighting animals and monsters.Curious how you took the clockwork horrors and ents down, though, A single ent wiped my army.
>>521319339Then play Settlers or Tropico.
>>521320494Hey, that's very racist against hoburgs bro. Then again, killing 500 hoburgs was the easy part, killing 17 fucking Ents needed durable tanks, lots of healing/armor+ spells and a fire mage. The clockworks were easier pickings. I'm curious how someone would beat that using a faction like the Baron though, he only has lvl 2 spellcasters and normal squishy frontliners.
>>521321530Damn, some of these ents are begging for death. For these who don't know, the hearts at the top left of an unit portraits are wounds. They're varied and can be anything from battle fright to a missing limb to a festering wound.
>>521320494This is the game where deer can destroy settlements. Don't fuck with nature.
>>521322368I literally fucked a bear in another game. I WILL fuck with nature.

>>521216260I play with the following settings and it's a challenge for both me and the crisis when it comes to AI empire difficulty. >mid game scaling on>grand admiral>all AI empires start as advanced empires >10x crisis >mid game year 2300>end game year 2375See if that works for you?
>>521352743Will try those, it might be harder for m because I'm absolute shit when it comes to propping up an economy.
